I I guess I was excited that it was Friday and also splurged on the bag of 12 mini oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies. Let me tell you- the cookies stole the show. Came here to grab a quick lunch! I ordered the combo (about $11 with tax) which is a half 6 inch sandwich and cup of soup! I ordered the Cubano which has dill pickles, pulled pork and mustard--a strange combination but delicious!!!! I loved it. My soup wasn't very good. I had the loaded baked potato soup which lacked any flavor and didn't have any cheese! The service was very pleasant and my sandwich was so fresh! I love their pickles as well. We love the ambiance and I have to say the soup and salad and the soup and sandwich pair for a perfect lunch or even a dinner meal if you're in a hurry. The Mediterranean is my favorite sandwich but the avo turkey is a close sometimes. Sometimes if I'm feeling like mixing it up then I order a chicken club or a steakhouse beef. The kids really love the pizza melt but that's a little bit too much calories for. Smoked ham really has that special taste of smoked meat as well. I love several of the sauces so mix and match as you like. My favorite salad has to be the farmhouse the PowerHouse salad but the apple walnut is close second. Just a quick review of my experience at Potbelly yesterday. When I was in San Antonio on a business trip last month, I found this chain and downloaded the app and got a free sandwich for doing so. Yesterday was my last chance to get the free one so I ordered the Wrecking Ball on the app to go. It was ready within 5 minutes of the time I asked it to be ready by. The sandwich was made perfectly (I make a lot of alterations when ordering on the app because they give options (substituted flat bread.... I'm very thankful that this potbelly has survived the covid crisis. I have very few go-to stops now that I can't dine out and it's a relief to have potbelly's from time to time to help my cravings. I don't have much more to add from a taste standpoint.....the wreck is my favorite and it's same whatever potbelly's I go. That said I am extremely impressed by how this Potbelly has set up their post-covid pickup system. They have a large rack (plenty enough) for you to pick up the order so you don't wait in line. The space is very large to allow for social distancing and they have always provided top-grade hand sanitizers (purrell). Just abysmal experience today. I ordered Pickup through Doordash. First and last time doing that. The "working on your order' meter hung for a freaking hour. I finally gave up and got a refund. then I placed an order through their website. Got a free shake, nice. It said completed. Went to the shop to pickup my food. Guess what? Last night my husband ordered delivery from Potbelly. He got me the most delicious broccoli cheese soup I have ever eaten. I was busy when the food arrived, so I didn't even get to try it hot. For the first time in a long time there was a little snap in the air when I awoke and went outside earlier this week, and it was of little consequence that though things warmed up quickly (hey, I know where I live), I considered myself briefly enjoying the benefits of autumn (you know, that season we read about back East) when I popped into Potbelly for a warm sandwich and a cup of chicken noodle soup. Word to the wise: they get a little busy during lunch so if you have any special requests for lunch (I asked for a soft shoe number...just kidding), it's best to have them at the ready so as not to get distracted. Ultimately though, my sandwich was spot on, the server at the counter was extra kind, and the soup was as hot as the mercury levels had risen outside. You'd think as close as I live to this place, and as many times as I have been to the adjacent Target and Office Depot that I would have made it by Potbelly long before now. But, oh no, I waited until today. So it's my grand opening, K? I had never been in a Potbelly store before, but I have had their sandwiches through a catered business lunch by another location and was thoroughly impressed. It took a Facebook post by Potbelly this morning to make today the day. I went with their Smoked Ham Biggie, with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and hot peppers. All in all, truly a fantastic sandwich! I love the fact that their sandwiches are toasted, and the regular bread is soft but still gives you the sensation that you've been "Frenched". When I visited at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon, the staff seemed a slight bit stressed as if they were slammed, but the dining room was fairly empty. Everyone was polite and smiling with the exception of the cashier, who carried out her duties in quite the perfunctory manner. My only knocks on this place are imaginary. I need a Potbelly in San Marcos, and I need them to deliver for free. Sorry Jimmy John's, you win for now, but, the moment Potbelly comes to town, well, let's just say "The pig is up". I appreciate it when mgt reaches out and tries to make things better. I was a little harsh in my first review (look, I like food, and you don't eff with my food...) ...because we love this place and come here at least once a week.
