Thyme really disappointed me because I really felt that we got scammed by the waiter concerning water. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water and we said still. What they didn't ask us is if we wanted tap or bottled which is usually the norm if they are trying to upgrade you to bottled water. Well the water came out and it was bottled and before we could object it was already poured into our glasses. So shame on you Thyme for not giving us a real option of tap, which is Roslyn is decent enough water. That is why you get a 1 star rating, because you wanted to make a quick buck on your patrons. I don't care if the service and food were good otherwise, your water scam will always stick in my mind. read more

The location of this place is certainly a benefit of its own. Situated near a beautiful lake and built like an old country house, it gives a certain beautiful vibe for brunch all year long. Brunch menu is in general $26 (tax and tip excluded) which includes 1 main meal + a choice of drinks (Bloody Mary, Bellini, Mimosa, Orange Juice). The options all seemed attractive but I finally landed with Nova Scotia Smoked Salmon Platter, although famous options include the Benedict. Anyway, they also serve us a tiny scone to start--this crumbly and buttery baked goodness makes a good start of the meal. Food presentation was on point and portion was decent. My platter came with salad, tomato, red onion, capers, cream cheese, and slices of pumpernickel bread. It was good and I enjoyed it but as I'm typing this I figured I should have ordered something with a lot more cooking involved. Regardless, it was a pleasant brunch. I truly don't ever feel encouraged to write a less than great review but our experience last night has compelled me so. We booked a table for 7 through open table for a table. Thyme is mainly surrounded with street parking and a small lot behind the restaurant by the pond. There's a sign that says "valet parking" however no one was available and the whole process was confusing. Because the lot by back of the restaurant was full, my party and I managed to find parking in the paid lot around the corner. We were seated about 10 minutes after we arrived- no issue. Once we were seated we were brought water and our drink orders were taken. One of the ladies brought us fresh bread and butter as well. We wanted to put in appetizers at that moment, however we were told that because it was a weekend our entree and appetizers must be put in at the same nice. Again- no issue. After about 20 minutes our waiter re-appeared and took our orders. We ordered three apps, and our seven entrees as well as some sodas. One friend in our party (as she always does when we eat out) let the waitstaff know that she had a huge tree nut allergy, and to please make sure her meal was tree-nut free. She ordered the cavatelli pasta minus the pesto sauce. For a Saturday night, they were pretty busy, but not over the top busy. Our appetizers came out about 25 minutes after we ordered them. The apps were great. We opted for the calamari, baked brie and kale & brussel sprouts. My favorite was the baked brie. It was served with tomatoes and some greens and was delish! The appetizers are fairly smaller, so if you a larger party, I wouldn't be afraid to order more! After waiting another 20-25 minutes our entrees came out one by one. Here's where things started to not be on par. My friend, who mentioned she had a tree nut allergy, received her pasta WITH PESTO. This was a huge inconvenience because the rest of us got our meals, and she did not. We had to wait another 15 minutes for her to get the correct meal. The rest of us chose Filet Mignon, Salmon, the Beef Parpadelle Pasta and the Chicken Kebabs. My filet mignon was delicious, and cooked to perfection. The side of parmesan frites were nice and crunchy, and the overall meal was a heaping portion! Towards the end of us eating our meals, the man at the from advised us we only get the table for two hours from our reservation time. This was a complete shock and we were never advised of this "rule". We kindly explained to him that no where on the website, on the open table reservation, or even when we arrived did anyone explain this to us. It should have been mentioned before we sat, so we consciously kept that in mind. We also explained that between the wait time of getting all our food, and the mistake on his staff's part with my friends pasta, we should be allowed a little more time, especially because we were still in the middle of eating!! What happened next felt like fast forwarding through a movie. The minute we finished our meals, 3 waitstaff members quickly cleaned up the table in seconds, and basically suggested the check. We were appalled, and demanded we have time to at least enjoy a cup of cappuccino and see a dessert menu. The gentleman at the front again came over and explained how the other party was here (early) and how we needed to hurry. Basically we ordered three cappuccinos, asked for to-go cups, paid the bill and left. I was so rushed, I didn't even get a chance to take any photos of our entrees. It overall put a bad taste in my mouth. The food was excellent, but not sure I would want to come again due to the rushing of the staff. Our waiter himself was great and super attentive. It wasn't his fault, mainly the man at the front by the podium. FYI parking in the lot is paid until 8pm Monday through Saturday! read more

Asked the hostess if a service animal was welcomed on the patio, she responded yes. When I walked in with him I was immediately greeted with a dirty look when she told me he doesn't "look" like a service animal. She was extremely rude and continuously questioned us although we had paperwork. My boyfriend served in the military and suffers from PTSD. I have dined at this restaurant before and will never come back. Truly nothing special to be treating costumers with such judgement. read more

The restaurant is incredibly cozy, facing the clock tower in Roslyn, and attached to a pond behind the building. It's a beautiful setting. We dined for long island restaurant week which was a great deal for our first time trying this restaurant. I ordered the crab cake which is phenomenal, and the lamb shank, which was equally delicious not to mention tender. My husband had the calamari and salmon, which were both equally delicious. The drinks were also great - pear lychee martini and cucumber mojito. Our server, Tito, was truly outstanding. All of his recommendations were on point and he was incredibly friendly and attentive. We came to Thyme after doing a lot of research on the restaurants that were participating in the Long Island Restaurant week. After looking up the menu, Thyme had one of the better offerings with a lot of different foods inspired by Fall. What really drew me to the menu was the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Salmon with squash risotto. So we managed to get a reservation for 8:30 on a rainy Friday night. The Good: Both appetizers that we started off with were pretty tasty. The Apple and Endive salad was fresh and acidic, a nice contrast to the carb filled Ravioli. The Salmon with squash risotto was probably my favorite part of the meal. The salmon was cooked perfectly, crisp outside, flaky perfection on the inside. The squash sauce under the risotto was also divine and helped the risotto shine. One of the desserts we got was the Chocolate torte cake which was literally the brownie obsession from TGI Fridays. No complaints from me as it was amazing. The Average: The other appetizer that we had was the Butternut Squash Ravioli. This is what drew me to the restaurant in the first place so I had high expectations for this dish. I was pretty underwhelmed. They serve the ravioli in a massive bowl that only contains 3 little pieces of ravioli and sauce. If you're giving me a bowl the size of a car tire, please fill that thing up with ravioli. The flavors weren't as prominent as I would've liked, hence why I would say it is only average. The Sub-Par: The other entree that we got was the pan roasted chicken in a red wine reduction with acorn squash. I had high hopes for this dish as the waiter said it was his favorite and the components of the dish were eye catching. Unfortunately, the chicken was nowhere near what we expected. The skin was not crispy at all, instead it was soggy with the red wine reduction. The acorn squash was good, but it was literally just a piece of squash that was roasted in the oven. Definitely expected better. The flat-out bad: The other dessert that we got to try was the banana bread pudding. This was another eye catcher when looking at the menu and we decided that it was a must have. The dessert had a nice carmelized banana on top of the "bread pudding". The only bright spot was the carmelized banana. The "bread pudding" was literally sliced bread soaked in a not so tasty custard? I dont know how someone can get away with calling this a bread pudding. Overall, the restaurant was average. Some of the things we had were good, others were not good at all. LOVE this spot! I have been here at least 6 times and have always enjoyed my experience - ambiance, food and service. Whether it's a busy brunch time, an off hours meal or a dinner on the back deck I always leave content and satisfied with a lovely meal and very accommodating service. Last night my husband and I weren't sure if we should sit outdoors when asked our preference for an early dinner, but the hostess suggested we step out to check the temperature and then decide. We do love the view of the pond and it ended up being a perfect spot. We enjoyed the roasted beet salad and baked Brie as appetizers and then shared the Diver scallops and jumbo shrimp. Excellent! The roasted veggies that accompanied the seafood were flavorful and grilled to perfection. We ordered the strawberry shortcake made with buttermilk biscuit for dessert and were so thrilled with it. Thyme was hoppin' on a Thursday evening, every table downstairs was taken by 6:30. The restaurant is housed in a large two story vintage home, beautifully decorated with great views of the duck pond out back. We had the three course price fixe for $34.95, the food was outstanding and a good value. To start, cocktails (gimlet and blood orange margarita) were potent and creatively prepared. My rib lamb chops were served medium rare as requested and came with a large mound of shredded zucchini and sweet potato, delicious. Hubbie said his risotto w/shrimp and scallops was superb as well, done with a fresh pesto. Both entrees carried a $6.00 surcharge but worth it. My apple crepe with gelato dessert was fabulous made with a flaky crust served warm. Hubbie's chocolate cake was filled with oozing soft warm chocolate, right up his alley. Coffee (not included) served in a small french press finished off the lovely meal. Our server Lucas was attentive and super friendly despite the crowded room. Beware: Even though there are no signs there's no free parking in front of the restaurant before 8:00PM due to fascistic Roslyn regulations. We didn't know and got a $20.00 ticket. I can't say anything negative about this place. The food is ridiculously good and they are consistent. The hostess always remembers us and pleasant. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but we deal with it because the experience is very positive. I love that they have live music. BIG CON: The blond "hostess" made me give only 3 stars to one of my favorite restaurants. We made a 7:30 dinner reservation and I stated when we got there that we were arriving early at 7pm (for our birthdays/2 couples) to sit at the bar and have a drink and listen to the guitar player before being seated. I said this when I called also to confirm the reservation and there was no issue from the person who answered the phone about us doing that (why would there be right?). So we are sitting at the bar after buying drinks and the blond super obnoxious hostess kept annoying our husbands that our table is ready. we stated we were early to listen to the music (my favorite thing about this place). We were the only ones at the bar originally and a few others drifted in after. She kept pushing us "that our table was ready "as she finally admitted she wanted to seat 2 people to eat at the bar. There was room at the bar and others she could of asked who came after but but she just pestered us to the point we got up and moved. When we finished eating NOBODY was at the bar and normally we might have stayed after dinner if not for this hostess! Unless she is an owner or something we are not aware of then Thyme please consider hiring someone not so full of themselves! There are a lot of nicer people in need of a job I'm sure. Once you change her we will be back. The food and service is otherwise very good (except for the bread pudding which tasted like French toast sticks). Rant over! read more

Thyme catered our bridal shower held at Old Westbury Gardens at the Orchard Hill house last weekend. The brunch was excellent. Everything from the yogurt parfait to the presentation of dessert to the bar set up on the patio, was exceptional. Service was perfect. Not invasive but always there to accommodate any request, which were far and few between as everything was taken care of. Planning with Nancy was so calm. I came here for a friends birthday brunch and it did not disappoint. We were seated promptly after everyone had arrived. We were served freshly baked scones with cinnamon butter which was divine. Their brunch deal is $20 for an entree and 1 alcoholic beverage. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict which was poached perfectly a top a crispy potato pancake (instead of a traditional muffin). Spent Mother's Day here, they had a special Mother's Day brunch. The food was incredible. However the service wasn't so good and it wasn't that busy that I could understand why they were slacking. We asked several times for beverages that came 10minutes after asking two different people, water wasn't refilled and never received the ketchup that the waiter offered to us since he saw we had fries. Food was tasty but not enough to have me return. Just an FYI, the restrooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator. So if you have someone in your party who is handicapped you might want to reconsider. read more

Food was good but apparently there's only one person who can take your orders and he was extremely patronizing. We had to wait at least 20 minutes before our order was taken. Came here for dinner. The restaurant is very cute, it was night so unfortunately we could not enjoy the window view but there was a very pretty Christmas tree outside. The $29.95 three course menu seemed like the most legit option. I asked our server what he recommended and I decided to try the warm brussel sprout salad and the lamb shank. The salad was good. I felt like it was something I could make at home and the portion was kind of small but it was tasty. The lamb shank was huge. The sides were grilled vegetables and polenta. For some reason I felt like the seasoning or flavor could have been stronger. However it was still good. My parents ordered the paella and duck salad which they both enjoyed. My girlfriend enjoyed her lychee martini, which the bartender made expertly and quickly. For appetizers, we had the duck tacos. The duck was tender and well flavored. For our meal we had the seafood risotto and the short rib. The risotto was well seasoned and the seafood was fresh. They were stingy with the shrimp though-only two?! And only one scallop?! It was strange and left more to be desired. The short rib was cooked to perfection and the spinach that accompanied it was light and refreshing. Overall, I would return to Thyme. We originally had reservations at another restaurant in the Roslyn area which I will leave anonymous however upon arrival they were extremely rude and very unaccommodating. Rather then continue the poor intro we decided to leave and call other places in the area t see if they could fit us in on a Saturday evening. The staff at Thyme was so pleasant on the phone when they told us to come by and they would accommodate us. They were even better in person. The restaurant was so comfortable and cozy and the food even out did the amazing service! First stop for Long Island Restaurant Week! Was browsing the menus with my man to see which looked most interesting. This won, hands down. The restaurant is in the village of Roslyn overlooking a beautiful lake. The setting was warm and romantic, everything I could have hoped for. We decided to find our own parking spot rather than grab valet, which I was happy about. Here's why. It's such an upscale place, and we walked passed the valet and the kid reeked of pot. I wouldn't have wanted him to set a foot in our car smelling like that. I mean, to each his own, but not at work, and not when you're driving other people's cars around. Not safe. Minus 1 star. We were seated immediately and given menus. We were each given a glass of water and then a waiter came by to give us 1 roll, each. The bread was yummy! The pace of our meal was a tiny bit slow for my liking, but they were packed, so I understand. It was very loud, but I've been to restaurants during restaurant week before and it's always pretty similar. What can ya do? As for the food...$27.95/pp for a 3 course meal. For appetizer, I opted for the baked Brie with grapes and apples. It was delicious. Generous portion atop baby greens that cut the richness perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the Brussels sprout Caesar salad with brioche toast that was out of this world. If you're a Brussels sprouts lover like I am, this would be your dish. I ordered the double cut pork chop with sweet potato hash that was served in a basket of puff pastry topped with orange slices and a side of ratatouille. The waitress said the pork would be cooked medium, which is to my liking, but when it arrived it was well done. It was still delicious, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as tender and juicy as I would have hoped. My boyfriend ordered the hanger steak with polenta fries. This dish was a home run. Perfectly cooked steak, interesting concept with the polenta. All-in-all great dish. For dessert we ordered the chocolate torte and banana bread pudding. We shared this course and oh my god. The banana bread pudding here is to die for. No joke, the best I've ever had. We also shared a champagne mojito that was very refreshing. So glad restaurant week opened up my eyes to this place! We came here for a Saturday brunch. The restaurant was packed, so I'm glad that we made reservations. First thing you notice when you walk in is the classy but casual atmosphere, along with the serene view of the pond from the seating area. There's outside seating, but it was closed off because of the rain when we came here. Their weekend brunch is $20. They started us off with a warm raisin scone with cinnamon butter that we both really liked. I had the Challah French Toast with strawberry chutney and thought it was delicious. Although the serving of the strawberry chutney was a little small, the french toast was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend and I usually try to stick to the menu during this event but we were blown away by the octopus appetizer that we had to give it to a try in addition to our 3 course meal. Everything was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. You can tell the chef takes pride in their products. All plates were licked clean. I was kind of skeptical going into this because it seems like majority of the Yelp reviews were for brunch. But the dinner was amazing. They have valet parking and town parking as well as street parking is also available. The recent time I came here I tried their French toast along with their fries and iced coffee. This is our favorite spot for special occasions and for no-special-reason dining out. Excellent food, friendly and competent service, nice ambience, and both outdoor and balcony dining available in season. As many other reviewers have pointed out, it overlooks a lovely pond. We had dinner at Thyme last night for my birthday. They comped our desserts, presumably as a "Happy Birthday" and in apology that we had to wait a bit for the balcony table that we had reserved. My only complaint is the steep climb and descent to and from the rest rooms. (I'm an old gal.) Roslyn, BTW, is a charming community with a lot of history. Save some time (pun intended) to walk around while you're there. read more
