One of the best Sichuanese around... We keep coming back to this place when craving for the tingly sichuan peppercorn sensation. We usually order Boiled Fish in Spicy Broth with Soft Tofu (水煮魚) and Dan Dan Noodles (坦々麺), along with Spicy Wontons, but felt bit adventurous this time to try some new dishes. So... We ordered Mapo Tofu, Sichuan Style Spicy & Crisp Squid, and Dry Fried Cabbage w/ Hot Chillies. They were amazing. We especially enjoyed squid - tender, thick, and well cooked crispy squid pieces with good amount of spice and string beans, and it may be one of our new fav's. I walked in on a Sunday evening and was able to get a table easily. Someone had recommended this place because of their spicy wontons, so I was incredibly eager to check it out. My waitress was very kind and attentive. I ordered the Szechuan Spicy Wonton and Dan Dan Noodles. The wontons were really good. It's not very spicy, but it is very meaty and flavorful. On a chilly day, few things sound more comforting than a steaming bowl of noodles. This small restaurant may specialize in their handmade noodle dishes, but they also offer wontons, dumplings and a variety of traditional Chinese and Sichuan plates. At about 1:00PM, only a few tables were full, but this place was pretty busy with takeout orders. The employee at the counter handled everything but the cooking. She managed ordering, sorted & packed bags to go, bussed tables, answered phone calls and processed payments. Through all this, she was still so sweet and kindly answered a couple questions we had about the menu. We learned that the noodle dishes come with hand-pulled noodles, but you can opt for hand-shaven noodles for an extra $1.50. + Shredded Pork w/ Garlic Sauce Noodles ($11.95): The hand-pulled noodles are addictive and have a nice bouncy texture to them. The dish's name didn't live up to the flavor though... I barely noticed any garlic. I'd call it more of a sweet and sour sauce with mild spice and pieces of pork and veggies. I enjoyed these noodles, but as someone who loves garlic, I was bummed. + Dan Dan Noodles ($11.95 + $1.50): We selected this with the hand-shaven noodles at extra cost which were worth the try. They included a whole container of their chili oil sauce for us to mix with the noodles ourselves, but we probably only used a third of it. If we used the whole thing, our noodles would be swimming in pure oil, like soup. I just wish it came with more minced pork. The pieces were miniscule and not plentiful at all. This had a pretty good heat, strong chili flavor and the thick chewy noodles provided more surface area for the sauce to cover. + Combination Chow Mein ($12.95): A good basic chow mein with chicken, shrimp and vegetables. The sauce had the right amount of saltiness, and the veggies (cabbage, carrot) were still a little crisp. + Pork and Scallion Dumplings ($10.95 for 12 pieces): These dumplings appeared to be genuinely homemade. The wrapper was on the thicker side and they had more ginger than I would have liked, but the meatball inside was moist, light and juicy. Overall, these were tasty and plump dumplings. + Szechuan Spicy Wontons ($9.95 for 8 pieces): This is going to sound strange, but we couldn't tell what type of meat these contained and it wasn't stated on the menu either. Maybe beef or pork, or a mix of both? The wonton wrapper was super thin and they were tossed in a chili oil with mild spice. Pricing is average for the serving sizes. My second visit to Tian Tian noodles, and I had to get their spicy beef soup with hand pulled flat noodles again, and also added a new item with their chicken with peppers. The noodles did not disappoint the second time! If you are a fan of thick noodles, you will be obsessed!! The chicken was tasty, although I wish that they would cut vents into the to go box to keep the chicken crispier. By the time I got it home, the condensation had removed any crispness from the chicken however the flavor was still great. Beware that it is cooked with Szechuan peppercorns, which if you are unfamiliar with them, does contain a numbing agent! Another great meal, can't wait to try more of the menu! This is my go to place to pick up and as I reviewed previously I am a huge fan of their big plate chicken and I wanted to try something more boring like chow men and that was my mistake. The dish had way too much sugar to a point they I couldn't eat. The mapo tofu (not pictured here) was excellent. Spicy dry chicken was okay. My original rating for this place was 5 but based on other dishes I tried I am knocking off one star which is still pretty good and I will continue dining here. Tian Tian has been on my Yelp noodle radar for a few months, so when I recently found myself in downtown Redmond and feeling the pangs of late afternoon hunger I knew I had to stop. They're doing takeout-only right now (and preparing for a move to the building across the street), and my order of hot 'n sour soup and mu shu pork with gravy noodles was ready to go in less than 10 minutes. By the time I made the long drive home the food had cooled down, but a quick pop in the microwave and everything was steaming hot again. The soup, as mentioned in a few Yelp reviews, was delicious. I'm a big fan of hot 'n sour and this one was very good, just the right mix of spicy hotness and vinegary sourness (with a tad more vinegar than at many Chinese restaurants - and I mean that in a good way). The mu shu pork was tasty, too. The pork was tenderly prepared and served with veggies and a magical, savory gravy. But the star of the show was the accompanying bowl of perfectly chewy noodles.
