Really solid selection of dumpling dishes, including a very good version of pork soup dumplings (xiao long bao). The three of us came here on a Tuesday holiday for lunch (after checking to make sure they were open). It wasn't too crowded inside and we got seated right away. Water was brought immediately, and one paper menu with pen was given to make our choices (similar to a dim sum place). One thing to notice right away was that everything was under ten dollars (with most under eight), encouraging one to try different things since most are shareable. That's what we did, and most it was quite good. Beef-stew Noodle Soup ($9.95) - on the smaller side but definitely appropriate for the price, with a bit weak beef broth (flavored with star anise and other chinese spices) that was oily. It used small chunks of beef with a lot of gristle around (probably from the shank), which I think is the absolute best cut of beef for this dish). The noodles were OK. Definitely satisfying considering the Seattle winter weather. Pork Xiao Long Bao ($9.25 each) - comes in eights and are the typical (smaller) size. It was expertly handmade, which makes the price very reasonable. Interestingly, the pork and crab version is the same price (which if one frequents DTF knows is unusual). The skin was thin with the top not too thick, the pork sausage inside was flavorful and the soup gelatin was tasty. It's a very good version of XLB, and deserved the two steamer baskets that we got (and devoured) Chinese Crepe ($7.15) - this was a special, with a egg and flour batter wrapping around crispy won-ton chips, covered in a dark house special sauce. It looked interesting (and I love omelets) so worth a taste, but we wouldn't get it again. Pork & Shrimp Potstickers, pan fried ($7.15) - probably my favorite dish this time. Definitely worth the pan fried style, with a beautiful dumpling 'skirt'...beautiful to look at, and enjoyable to eat too. The pork filling is consistently good here. Q-Bao: pan fried pork buns (9.95) - really interesting...combines the dough and breadiness of a chinese bao, with the filling of a potsticker, and then having the bottom pan fried. It was OK. One thing I really like about Dough Zone are the simple accoutrements at the table: soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil...all high quality. For the soup dumplings, little ramekins of ginger are given, but instead of it being sliced, the ginger is crushed, letting it mix even better. My wife really likes it with the XLB, and will ask for it at other places...so far, Dough Zone is the only place that does it like this. Service was OK throughout. It was well staffed, and they weren't very busy so food came out right away hot. They did finally refill the water towards the end of the meal. Paying was at the table and was quick and easy. Founded in 2014 in Bellevue, WA, this is one of two locations in Bellevue (and one of fourteen in WA). There are also three locations in OR, five in NorCal, and four in the Houston, TX area. One of the benefits of having so many locations close together in the Seattle area: can optimize the consistency of the product by prepping much of it in a central place, which reduces costs as well (which I believe is passed down to the customer). Fix your chili sauce and your attitude! When your customer tells you that the chili is out and only oil remains, refill the chili containers. Do not tell your customers that oil is all that they should expect to have. It is not your job to talk down to and lecture your customers about how chili sauce should be served and used. The food was good, and the servers were very friendly. My only reason for giving four stars is that the dining experience felt a little less personal. Since you have to scan a QR code to place your order, there isn't much interaction with the staff beyond having your food brought to the table. I personally like to limit my phone use when I'm out on a date or spending time with friends, so I prefer restaurants where someone takes your order at the table. It wasn't crowded on a week day and it's in a mall full of Indian and other ethnic places. We stopped by Dough Zone Dumplings for lunch--it had been a while since our last visit. There is parking available around the building where the restaurant is located. It was around 1 PM on a Monday, so the restaurant wasn't too crowded, probably because it was a weekday. To use the restroom, you need to ask a staff member for a key--it's located outside to the left at the back. The interior is simple and clean, which makes for a comfortable dining atmosphere. You order by marking the items you want on a paper menu using a pen, which is convenient and easy. We ordered the pork and crab soup dumplings, pan-fried pork and shrimp dumplings, romaine lettuce salad with sweet and spicy garlic dressing, and dan dan noodles. We also chose herbal tea to go with our meal. The pork and crab soup dumplings had great flavor in the broth, though they were a bit small in size. The pan-fried dumplings were crispy and savory--I could easily eat a lot of them! Next time, I'd like to try some other noodles and vegetable dishes. read more

I was so disappointed by my last visit at Dough Zone which makes me sad because I used to love coming here. I made a reservation for a large party as we were gathering with many friends, but when we all arrived and got seated, they informed us that they were out of pork xiao long baos! I would be more sympathetic if we were there close to closing but this was at 6:30pm on a Wednesday so that was super disappointing. Since we were a larger party, we decided to order by table and although we ordered around the same time, our tables got our food at very different times. At one point, our table had 75% of our order while our other friend's right next to us had not received any of their food yet. Also, the general portion sizes seem to have shrunk since the last time I visited. When we got our lettuce salad, it was very underwhelming with a majority of the pieces being the crunchier parts near the root and barely any leafy pieces. It also came out super messy like they had tossed it altogether in the bowl they brought it out. The pork wontons also used to be my favorite dish but when they came to the table, they were so small! The actual meat portion for each wonton was so tiny - it felt like the wonton was 30% filling and 70% skin. Our table ended up spending almost $40 per person (4 ppl) but we were still hungry after finishing everything we ordered. That being said, all the servers were very helpful and kind so kudos to them. They did their best to accommodate us and keep our waters filled and I can't fault them for the disappointment over the food. Other favorites are the pan fried wontons and chicken and veggie wonton. I love cucumber salad, it's alright here, 3/5. Would get if I had a craving but DTF's cucumber salad is significantly better. Lots of parking in the lot available and this location is in a little mall plaza area. We were seated right away. They give you a paper and pencil where you can mark what you want to order. We got the cucumber, beef pancake, sesame noodle dish, xiao long bao, pork steamed dumpling, pan fried dumpling. Everything was delicious. There were lots of open tables when we came in but they still made us wait standing in the awkward entry way for ~5 minutes. In the meantime four other parties walked in behind us and were also visibly confused/frustrated to be waiting around without being acknowledged. The service once we were seated was also not great. The servers felt robotic, not warm or helpful at all. The food was mediocre at best. Not as good as the other dough zone locations I've been to in seattle and downtown Bellevue. Lastly the ambiance was terrible. It's sort of in a food court of an Asian grocery story. The feel is very industrial and there is absolutely no decoration to speak of. It was not a great impression. You pretty much get what you expect at Dough Zone. All the locations are quite consistent with their experience and food quality, and I do really enjoy the food here. I like it more than Din Tai Fung dare I say for both the flavor and value of the dishes. We got a huge spread - potstickers, xiaolongbao, pig ears, scallion pancakes, q bao, spicy wontons, and noodles. The xiaolongbao are fantastic, and so are the pig ears. I was actually a little disappointed by the q bao this time as they were a little to big and dry. Not sure if the recipe changed or it was just a bad batch, but they weren't as good as I remember and definitely don't live up to a shengjianbao. This is a great spot for both small and big groups! It was our first time coming to this Dough Zone location tonight, we've been to the one on Main St. in Downton Bellevue before. We decided to come to this location because the parking's better since it's located in a shopping center. We ordered the spicy beef sandwich, pork soup dumplings, chicken and vegetable wontons with chili sauce, pork wontons with chili sauce, romaine lettuce with sweet spicy garlic dressing, sweet and sour cucumber, dan dan noodles, onion soy sauce noodles, and finally the banana naan bread for dessert. The food was very tasty and had great flavor, we enjoyed it all but wished it was hotter. All of our hot dishes were warm at best and not hot which was unfortunate. The vegetables were nice and crispy and fresh though. The banana naan bread is absolutely delicious too and the perfect end to a meal. The service was just alright and below average. Nothing special at all and could be a lot better. The staff pretty much only came by to give us our food and didn't see much of them besides then and when we paid. The ambiance is okay here. Definitely a casual spot, I like the location in Downtown Bellevue way more. The floors were pretty dirty with crumbs and scraps of food. Didn't seem like the busser wiped down/cleaned tables enough too. We unfortunately probably won't be back to this Dough Zone. Wish our experience was better than it was tonight. read more

Our waters needed to be filled, and when we asked for help, the workers seemed annoyed. The ambiance is really dirty at this place; the table and seats were sticky. This spot doesn't differ much from other Dough Zones, so basically copying over my thoughts here. Unpopular opinion but I prefer Dough Zone over Din Tai Fung. Everything here is more standard and typical of the experience in Asia whereas DTF has non-traditional items and is basically shrimp everything. Value and variety at Dough Zone makes it my favorite. This time, I came on a Sunday night and it was very easy to get seated yet there were still a good amount of customers. Items in my most recent visit: Beef Pancake Roll, Pork w/ Crab Meat XLB, Q-Bao, Sweet & Sour Cucumber, Chicken Pot Stickers, Pork Wonton w/ Chili Sauce, and Minced Pork Noodles. Beef Pancake Roll was my favorite item and remind me of Taiwan in a way, but I think it's just the item itself. Super filling and "heavy" item that comes packed with meat. Honestly, the house specials are all very delicious. Q-Baos are another favorite and being a bao, there is a softer texture that's delicate however, the bottom is pan fried to be slightly crunchy. Minced pork noodles are my friend's favorite, which is our go-to for noodles. Xiao Long Baos are as expected, nothing wrong to comment about. Lastly, I am not a fan of regular cucumbers, but the cucumbers here hit different. They're great with other menu items (similar to the ginger + sauce combo) and are also fine on their own. A more affordable ding tai Fung, but with a more mainland Chinese influence vs ding tai Fung's Taiwanese focus. I came on a Friday night at 5pm we were seated immediately. And the servers are very efficient. Once seated, we were promptly served water and given a menu. At $1.33 per soup dumpling, it is one of the cheapest option I've seen in the area. It's a solid soup dumpling, good filling, good amount of soup. What's not to like. Albeit it's not up to Ding Tai Fung's quality, specifically with the filling, it's still a good alternative. Also I think it's machine made... pork w/ crab has more flavor but if you want it soupier, pork is the way to go. Both are the same price and taste great! I'd give both a try :) The Dan Dan noodles were alright. Portion was a little small and would be enough for 1 person. The noodles were fresh and springy and the sauce was numby and good. Price-wise it's a little steep for $6.25. Kale salad with sesame dressing - perfectly cooked kale. It's very tender, yet still has a nice crunch. The sesame dressing and peanuts coat each piece so nicely, you won't even realize it's healthy for you. You get a good amount of veggies here and would get it again. Parking: shared lot that is a bit cramped and smack dab right near Dough Zone;s entrace is an egged green van with flat tires that seems like it's been there for years. Totally out of place for a "nice" area. Also, strange that no one has done anything about it. Atmosphere: open area with cafeteria like seating. Menu: pretty straight forward. You will get a paper slip with the menu items on it to mark how many of each dish you'd like. Kid Friendly: high chairs, plastic water cup, plastic spoon and plastic fork. Service: wait to be seated, you will be given a menu slip to fill out, you will be watered, check brought to table. Pan Fried Ground Beef Cake: I don't know about you but the name of this dish sounds like an insult you would shout while gaming, hahaha. It was a bit on the sweet side and I though I did like the pan fried outer dough, the beef cake filling didn't impress me too much. Green Onion Pancake: My favorite. Not every greasy and flavored just enough to be eaten on its own or it can easily compliment some sauce. There is satisfaction with every bite because it is crispy, flaky, and chewy. I just wish they provided more slices! The order itself is small, so if you want more, order one for yourself because if anything you can take them ToGo for later. I can snack on these all day. Jianbing Guo Zi (w/ Crisps): pretty good dish with great textures but I was not aware of the hidden spice dragon inside. I reached for the water with each bite. I'm a spice wimp so this may be fine for all you normal people out there but I was breaking a sweat on my schnoz. Don't judge me, haha. Five Spice Beef Shank: ehhhh the flavor is all there but the meat texture is like cardstock paper. I was expecting round and tender slices of cold cut beef like how most places serve. Instead, I got marinated cardstock. Not gonna lie, it tasted good but the texture just wasn't for me. Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings: yummmm. A bit on the sweet side for me but easily fixable with the dipping sauce. I prefer soy sauce and crushing the ginger slices with my soup spoon to get out all those spicy ginger juices, haha. We regularly get the noodles (Yi bin, ma la, noodles with onion sauce, Dan Dan), vegetable steamed dumplings, cucumbers in sweet sauce, romaine lettuce with sweet and spicy sauce, green onion pancakes, and pan fried potstickers are terrific. My kids love the milk tea and the food so no dinner time struggles. Not as $$$ as Din Tai Fung but same level quality. It might be nice if they added some more vegetarian options on the menu like fried rice or sautéed vegetables. Service can range from okay to really good depending on timing. During peak hours, it has been challenging on many occasions to get someone's attention for additional orders or check (I once waited for 25 minutes for my check). I was a while ago but we went down to the Seattle location and it wasn't at all a fun experience which led us to stop going but since this was one we hadn't visited before we thought we'd give it a shot and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is in the strip mall besides some other restaurants with ample amount of parking, so no hassle there. The place was clean, and the servers were really attentive and nice. We called for a couple of items from the menu, and all of them tasted so good. We loved the pancake wrap that was really delicious. Once upon a time, Dough Zone was a solid experience every time I went, starting at the first location in Crossroad. Now, the food is just ok, never hitting the 'yay' level any more. The most disappointing thing is that I can visually see they have switched to machine made, mass produced. The dumplings are missing the twist at the top, the seal is just closed, and they are sloppy in presentation. Maybe they are used to throwing things into boxes vs. "plating" for dine-in. It's just not the same anymore. The Food: Pork with Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao, $7.50 - 3 Stars They used to be much better. Now it's just a bunch of wrinkly little sacks of moderate flavored meat requiring sauces. Sweet and Sour Cucumber, $4.95 - 4 Stars Still one of my favorite dishes here. Yum. I was extremely disappointed to lay my eyes on this basket of deflated dumplings of varying sizes that isn't properly seasoned. A dumpling shouldn't rely on the sauces to be edible! A-Choy with Sesame Dressing, $5.50 - 3 Stars Other than it's drowning in dressing, this dish is fine. Q-Bao - Pan Fried Pork Buns, $8.75 - 2.5 Stars This has gone downhill. Less filling than before, barely looks like a Q-Bao at the top, sloppy plating. Vegetable Pot Stickers, $5.25 - 2.5 Stars It honestly is same as it was, as it has always lacked body and texture. But it's vegetarian... Fried Wonton with Chili Sauce, $5.25 - 2.5 Stars This dish is saved by the hot sauce. Without it, it's bland. Pan Fried Chive Dumplings, $5.95 - 3.5 Stars Still one of my favorite dishes here. But I still wish they did it the original way which was 2 big pockets instead of 3 smaller pockets. I've been to multiple Dough Zone locations but this was my first time dining at the Overlake location a couple weeks ago. Didn't have to wait for a long time even though the place was packed during peak dinner time, all thanks to the quick and attentive service from the employees. Food quality is consistently great regardless of the location and the portion size allows for ordering multiple items off the menu. read more

I'm crazy a bao xiao long bao! On our trip to the PNW, we stopped in during Valentines Day weekend. Seated our group within 10 minutes; all COVID-19 procedures well in-place, including temp checks for all guests, contact tracing form, distanced and spaced out tables. Our food was delicious! The xiao long bao were delicate and filled with piping hot soup and meat; but not too thin that the soup fell out before you could place in your spoon. I also highly recommend the ah-choy with sesame dressing and dan dan noodles. read more

Had high expectations since I've heard so many great things but this just missed the mark for me. Staff is plenty friendly and the location is good; restaurant is clean and the boots are big. The turnoff for me is that the food is quite oily and overall just not very complex. I would much rather go to my ole reliable spot when I'm in the mood for dumplings. read more

Have not visited for over a year. Tried again today. Very disappointed. The potstickers and the must tried "pau" were dry. The steam dumplings' skin were thick. The broccoli was not fresh. The portion was small. Only the noodle was more acceptable. Off my list. Will not return. Thanks. read more

The food is still fantastic but they are not generous with the chili oil in Covid world--you get one tiny soy sauce dish worth for a table of two people? I need about 10x that! Omg the bathroom situation is unacceptable. They desperately need a changing table and someone to sanitize the bathroom every couple hours. This was the first Dough Zone location I ever tried and it's by far my favorite. It's not the fanciest or swankiest in terms of atmosphere, but the service and the food here is the best! I've gone with coworkers, friends, and family, multiple times, and it always hits the spot - so good! Even my picky 9 year old (and adventurous 2.5 year old) smashes on their dumplings - it makes me so happy! My personal favorite is the Dan Dan Noodles - I always get one order to myself. Dough Zone is a must! They are always consistent, no surprises, and reliable in terms of satisfaction. Whether its a team lunch or date night, I suggest you stop in and give these guys a try! read more
