I have been a patron in this neighborhood cafe from its opening. Food quality and taste is great with affordable price. But overall, when it comes to customer services, I will give second thought to dine in or take-out. The baristas and the cashier are blunt, which makes me hard to talk to them. I've never been asked "how are you?" "what can I get you?" They mostly say "hi" or "Hello" with a grim expression. Today i took my friend to lunch, who is visiting from abroad. The food was very delicious, and their service was quick. They offered only patio sitting, and the food was presented from the side door, individually placed in boxes.eggplant sandwich and soba noodles salad were our favorite. The only thing i did not like was the huge trash container that was next to tables and was full. I hope they empty it more frequently. If you are expecting a place that has speedy service or is quick in any way, avoid Tickle Tree like the plague. I only come here when I have time, longer than a lunch break. They could really improve on their service buy purchasing a second cash register, having only one seems to slow them down. ^^^That being said, I really like the food here. Ok, so the name is kinda awkward, but it's actually a great little cafe (except for the two girls sitting silently across from my reading to themselves - I guess you don't need a cellphone to avoid social interaction). Strawberry/Banana smoothie: never been a fan of banana in my smoothies, but the others seemed to like it. Eggplant Sandwich: Really good ... a bit buttery, but the eggplant was cooked well and tasted pretty good (coming from a guy who doesn't love eggplant, that's high praise). I really wanted to like this place. Cute place, outside seating, courteous service. My cappuccino was fine. The unique orange French toast was good. I am glad I read the Yelp reviews before ordering. I took the tip of "syrup" on the side, as I took half of it home. Very interesting breakfast. My fiancé did not enjoy his iced mocha nor his overcooked eggs and pancakes. Came here on Wednesday morning with my grandma for Valentine's Day. I first called them at 8:30 am to ask them if they were busy, as I was expecting them to say they had a crowd. After calling 4 times, they finally picked up! They said they were not busy, but slow in fact. (Which makes me wonder why they failed to pick up the phone the first 3 times.) The cafe is located on the corner of Foothill Blvd. and Dyer St. There is street parking, but it is only for an hour. They have a small lot which has a few spots, but it's all a tight fit. We went inside and grabbed a menu. We looked over everything and I decided to get Jim's Breakfast which consists of two buttermilk pancakes, two eggs, potatoes, and two pieces of bacon. My grandmother got the Veggie Omelette which has spinach (she asked for it be omitted though), tomatoes, mushrooms, red bell peppers, and cheese and comes with potatoes and a cup of fruit. We both ordered hot chocolates as a warm drink. We were given a stand with a number and went to sit down at a table. There is outside seating, but it was cloudy and cold so we opted to sit inside. The cafe has a rustic and hippie kind of vibe to it with the hanging Edison lightbulbs and mix of wooden and metal furniture. They have followed a European idea of smaller is better as the tables and chairs are small and tight. As soon as we sat down, I wondered how our plates would even fit on our table. LOL Our hot chocolates came first with a cute foam heart in honor of Valentine's Day. Adorable! Then came our food. My bacon was nice and crisp, my egg was okay, and pancakes were good. The potatoes seemed to be undercooked -- not crispy at all. And they had red bell peppers! Ugh! The one vegetable that I truly hate with a passion! They should make a note on the menu that the potatoes have bell peppers in them. They gave two tiny butter containers and a small plastic cup of syrup. My grandma said that her veggie omelette was good. She eats like a bird, so she only ate half of her plate. LOL She didn't even get to her fruit, but I don't think she even wanted to as it looked totally not fresh and pre-packaged. No one came to check up on us during the meal which wasn't nice, but whatever. We asked for a to-go box and got up. As we walked out, we didn't even get a good-bye. The boys behind the counter seemed not rude, but shy and quiet so it's whatever. Both the experience and food were a solid okay. Nothing special. I'm a brunch snob so I've had my share of extravagant brunch spots all throughout LA and I gotta say, this hipster little cafe tucked away in the small town of La Crescenta is in my top 3. This place is really popular in the area so it gets pretty crowded, especially during brunch hours. I've eaten here for years but I'm just now appreciating how amazing their food is. It's expensive but they have generous portions and everything tastes really fresh. There are two things I ALWAYS order: the veggie omelette & pesto portobello sandwich. I don't go anywhere else to eat this because they make it the best. All of their omelettes are fluffy, thick, juicy, and cheesy but they're not the kind that make you feel bloated or gross. They brought the food and beverages out to us. Water is self serve. I do not like the concept of having a table of food brought out to you so that one person eats before the other. That is not the hospitality that I was taught to use. My food was not great. I received a mocha iced coffee. Something was wrong with the taste. Either it was the bean, water or brand of mocha used. It just wasnt right. Same thing with my eggs. They were a bit rubbery as if they were microwaved. Yet hard on the outside as if cooked too long on the griddle. They were definitely cooked too long in either case. The pancakes were dry. I used all of the syrup on one pancake. I didnt eat the second. The breakfast potatoes and Applewood Smoked Bacon were the best part of the meal.The orange French toast was a delightful flavor of fresh oranges and freshly sliced bananas. Probably the best choice of the day. Being a 4 star place, I was hoping for a grand experience. Not the case. The prices are a bit on the expensive side for what they give you. The food is really basic too; nothing that makes you want to come back to have again. You are paying for the experience, not the food. Even the experience was not that special. Not 4 stars in my book. We only ordered breakfast for 2 people and it was $38. We ordered nothing out of the extraordinary and that was our fee. Inexplicably small quaint quiet coffee shop that punches above its weight class with exceptionally great dishes. While the exterior seems to portray a cute trendy coffee shop the food is what delivers. The coffee was okay, but the omelette and quesadilla were truly something you've got to try. From the way they present the food with a multitude of colors, the layering of the quesadilla on top of a bed of spinach, the crust of the tortilla to crispy perfection they nailed it. Loved the presentation of the omelette with the sliced avocados ( I don't even like avocados)to the pairing of fruit. They did a remarkable job with the flavor, temp and all around presentation of the dishes. You can tell that they really put the care into preparing the dish. Now, the prices are steep, the coffee was okay, and the location is a little tough to find parking, but once you take that first bite you will know what the ratings represent. My chicken tasted like it was cooked the day before and re-heated (very tough and dry). Tickle Tree ALWAYS hits the spot. I've gotten their breakfast, salads, and burgers. Everything is always fresh and the staff is great and friendly. I visited Tickle Tree during COVID in October and they now have outdoor seating with lots of shade! Everything is to-go and it's up to you if you want to eat on their patio (why wouldn't you?). From what I saw, it seemed like the staff doesn't wipe the tables down after the customers so make sure you have some wipes with you. I ordered the Tickle Tree burger with fries and got a mint lemonade. My sister got the same thing but with an Arnold Palmer.
