The tea was tempting. There was a lot of marketing for it. The menu described the flavor profile and how it would affect your mood. The spring jade tea boosts mental clarity and is restorative. The bergamot black earl grey tea elevates concentration and is revitalizing. Then the grand crimson english breakfast tea sharpens focus and rejuvenates. It was a bit awkward because I wanted the spring jade to boost my mental clarity, but instead of being restored, I would have liked to be rejuvenated. I wonder if I could have asked for the spring jade without the restorative properties and asked them to add the rejuvenating ingredients instead. We really enjoy coming to this coffee shop. My mom always orders an almond croissant and a cappuccino with almond milk. She gives her order a 5/5 even though the croissant was not warmed (although she noted this would have made it even better). I ordered the breakfast sandwich (pictured) and a medium americano. Breakfast sandwich had almost too much egg but still tasty. It is a little bland but I got the one with only egg and cheese. Americano was good. While staying at the holiday Inn near by for vacation I frequented this place each day for coffee since it was so close by. It's also right next to another hotel right by the water. The only down side is that they don't have a bathroom for customers or at all, I'm not sure why? I didn't get a chance to try their tasty looking pastries but each day ordered a large iced latte with sugar free hazelnut flavor and additional espresso shot. Every flavor you add is an additional charge, I'm not sure why. But I guess Peets charges for sugar free syrup flavors. Adding espresso shots is an additional charge also, which is typical of every coffee place. The customer service was great and they're pretty quick. Even though the line would be somewhat out of their door, they get your order to you in a timely manner. The espresso was great too. read more

Burnt coffee taste!! I got an iced caramel latte, the espresso in it tasted burnt and I couldn't taste the caramel syrup at all. I went back and told them it tasted burnt and they offered to remake it (which is why I am giving them 2 stars). While not as horrible as the first, the remade coffee still had the faint taste of burnt espresso and no syrup. I could forgive the light syrup, but burnt espresso is incredibly disgusting. I suspect either the coffee bean they use is not great or they don't clean their porta-filter out well read more

I ordered mushroom panini, marshmallow cookie, and a London fog. The mushroom in the panini was exceptional; flavorful and juicy. Unfortunately the entire panini lacked structural integrity; the whole thing couldn't be picked up. The cookie and London fog were too sweet. Excellent service. Located within the hotel came here for breakfast. I asked the lady about drinks that are not sweet and my drink came out perfect. No sweetness at all very earthy drink. The sandwiches are big a lot of egg on the English muffin sandwich. They served us pretty fast and the views are amazing during this time. read more

First time coming here. The location is a prime time, near the water. So after you get your drink you can sit outside at the picnic tables or walk out to the oceanfront area. I ordered a vanilla latte extra sweet, which the lady helping me mentioned the latte originally is sweet, but I had her add an extra pump. I also ordered a mocha, with vanilla pumps. I'm sad to report back the both drinks did not have any flavor. They both tasted like coffee and milk. I like to rate my places from 1 to 10. 1 through 3 - will never comeback 4 through 5.8 - will come back if someone I'm with wants to try the spot 5.9 though 7.0 -will come back 7.1 through 9.9 will make an effort to come back and I would recommend the spot 10.0 is the best place! (Haven't had a 10 because there is always a better place out there. My rating for this place is 2.9 (Will you come back? Nah!) I stayed nearby and woke up and found this coffee shop, just perfect with a view. Yes, it was pricey, but well worth it. I didn't take photos, but the almond and plain croissant was really fresh and made by someone who was trained in French pastries. I ordered a matcha latte, it was smooth and not too sweet. I highly recommend this place especially if you are need a break from the Canary. There's plenty of seating and open space. Service: really nice folks, greeted me, were easy going and had a smile. It's an awesome location and the head of Cannery Row, where my friend and I were hoping to grab coffee and walk along together, but man the coffee was just not good. It was way, way too sweet. Tidal Coffee is located in a perfect spot in between the Monterey Plaza and Cannery Row that is away from the mass crowds that you'd typically see at Starbucks. You'll get your typical espresso drinks from cappuccinos to lattes and cold drinks, Nitro brews to cold lattes but no unique drinks that you'd only see here. The food options here are alright but nothing really unique as well. The hours here are ridiculously (but understandable due to COVID) short from 6AM to 12PM only so if you want to stop by here, come here early. The outside of this cafe is beautiful as it's right outside of the Monterey Plaza so you can enjoy your coffee and watch the waves and kayakers all out at sea. With short hours, you might be missing this spot entirely if you're a late bird but if you are craving coffee that isn't being crowded from tourists as you'd see from Starbucks, Tidal Coffee is a great spot to grab a quick drink and enjoy the nice sea-side views outside. read more

Overall: looks nice on the outside but the food quality doesn't match its looks. Location is great with a beautiful view. Ambience: nice and clean, good seating selection but it can get busy quickly. I got here at 8am and found a spot next to an outlet (they are limited). The cafe started to fill up by 8:30am so it can get pretty loud. Customer service: excellent. The baristas were very nice and pleasant. Amenities: good wifi, no bathroom, paid street parking. Good place to work from. Food: so disappointing. My coffee tasted okay but a bit burnt. This coffee shop is cute and staff is nice but the coffee isn't very good. I was hoping for a GREAT cappuccino. They have a great machine but they don't really know how to use it. Evidenced by the fact that they have 3 sizes for cappuccinos. Cappuccinos are 1 size. You would never venture into a high end coffee shop and have to clarify what size capp you want. But I ordered a cortado, which for my coffee nerd friends, you know this should be good. It was not. I drank it for the caffeine! But, the coffee had a bitter flavor and the milk had no microfoam, and was too hot. It's really a bummer that such nice places can't invest the time to hire a try pro barista to train their staff. This past June, the family and I stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa for one night for a quick getaway. In the morning, we went downstairs looking for coffee and a light bite, and I noticed a decent sized line in front of a small building across the courtyard from the hotel. Look for the fountain in the middle of the courtyard as a landmark. Their building has large glass windows on three sides and there is a good amount of seating inside. Although it was a Monday morning, the line outside was at least 7 patrons deep, however the line did move quickly. I ordered a latte and I shared a cinnamon roll(warmed up). We brought our breakfast back to the hotel and found a fantastic area to sit right by the window, overlooking the patio and the ocean experience. The latte and cinnamon roll were top notch and reasonably priced to boot. Tidal is a gem and an asset to the area. read more

My girlfriend and I have only visited this coffee shop twice, but I would say that this is becoming one of our favorite coffee shops to visit. I would say that at first glance looking at some of the other negative reviews, I would have to agree with some of the points. The food and drinks are not the best, and they are probably overpriced, and if you want to park within a block or two, you have to pay metered parking. From our personal experience, we work out at Anytime Fitness a couple blocks away, we walk down after the gym, grab a Latte, and get to stand and be amazed at the view that is right outside the door. Personally I love the latte, as it does not upset my stomach like some other spots. If you are in town, come check it out. If you are looking for a spot with the best tasting and best priced items, then you might want to check out a different spot. read more

While visiting Monterey we came to Vital coffee on a busy long weekend morning. Location was great. The line was long but worth the wait. We waited for our coffee and while leaving the shop, we spilled our entire coffee order... One of the employees of the shop (assuming a manager- shoutout to Paige) happily had the coffees remade for us and even went as far as to ask where the spill happened so that she can clean it up. I recently stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa and in the morning I went hunting for some coffee and a bite to eat. Directly across the courtyard from the hotel(near the can't miss fountain), you will find a cute square building that holds Tidal Coffee. There are large glass windows looking in so it is a pretty spot also. The line at around 9:30 am on a Monday was about 6 people and they want you to line up outside(for now). The wait was about 10 minutes so not too bad. I ordered a nonfat cappuccino and a cinnamon roll, which they offered to warm up for me. I brought back my goodies to the Monterey Plaza hotel lobby and found a seat right by the window overlooking the ocean. I was very pleased that the cappuccino was bold and the cinnamon roll was not too sweet and it made a big difference to have it warmed up for me. Stopped by recently while staying at the hotel. The good. Better than average coffee for a good price at $2.75 for a large. The Mrs. had an almond croissant that was also pretty good. The "meh". I wanted something a little heavier so opted for the chicken chorizo breakfast burrito. It was good sized, easily big enough to share for breakfast if lighter eater. Eggs, potatoes, cheese and sausage wrapped in a tortilla. Unfortunately it was relatively tasteless which was disappointing. Adding in some salsa and Cholula sauce helped. The annoying. None of the pastry or other food had prices noted. I didn't get a receipt, but the bill was almost $22 with the one cup of coffee so I am assuming the croissant was about $5 and the burrito $12. Not outrageous given the location, but it would nice to know what the prices are. Finally, our order was sitting at the counter for several minutes. I wasn't paying rapt attention to the orders being called out, but heard "burrito" once. Waited a few minutes expecting that they would call again if no one picked up. Finally had to walk up to counter and confirm order was mine. Good place to stop by for drinks and pastries. Skip the burrito and don't expect much service. read more

We stopped in here for a coffee at around 2pm. It is just outside a fancy hotel. The line was busy but not too long. I picked up 3 large hot coffees. Coffee: 3.5/5. Good tasting and slightly strong. Condiments: 5/5 Chocolate and caramel syrup, simple syrup, honey, all the powders like nutmeg, cinnamon etc, all the plastic utensils, napkins and a bottle of Agave sweetener. Rarely have I ever seen such a collection of coffee condiments. A+ Seating and comfort: 4/5 Wooden chairs and tables. No comfy chairs. Buy 10 get 1 free loyalty program. Best of all prices are great for regular hot or iced coffee. Small $2.25, medium $2.50 and large $2.75. Iced usually costs more in most coffee shops but same as hot here! Yay! Let me start by saying I don't drink regular coffee, I drink Mocha's. I basically like chocolate milk with Caffeine in it. I'll also add that I absolutely HATE Starbucks. It's the worst!!! Take those two tidbits and decide if my opinion will be worth reading. I always try to find locally owned businesses to support, I try to avoid chains if I can. I don't know if Tidal is locally owned or not, but I'm glad I stopped in today. I'm in Monterey for work, and everyday I have been walking between 3-6 miles after work. It's beautiful outside, the scenery is amazing, and best of all, it relieves the stress from work. Everyday so far I've noticed Tidal Coffee and it has been closed. Luckily today I got off work a little early, walked to the Aquarium and on my way back to the Hotel noticed they were still open. I was greeted by a very lovely young lady with the prettiest blue eyes. Her name was Savanna (hope I spelled that right). She was very friendly, asking me a lot of questions as she took my order. It was my first time there, but she made it feel like I was a regular. I love that feeling, the kind where you feel welcome and appreciated, not just "what do you want, Thanks, Next..." kind of attitude. I give the place 5-stars just from her alone. The coffee itself (White chocolate Mocha) was one of the best I've ever had. It isn't overly bitter or overly sweet. The combination was perfect. I didn't catch the name of the girl who made my coffee, but she did an amazing job. She was also friendly and helpful. There are tables and chairs outside with a gorgeous view of the water. It's a great place to relax and unwind. I'm going to absolutely try and go back a few more times before I head home to San Diego. read more
