Went there for a fund raiser and we were stuffed in a small area. Not enough staff. The staff that was there was clearly over stressed and rude. Clearly these type events are not something they are able to host . We ended up just leaving. Would never go back. read more

When I called to find out if the Tde's would allow us to sit on their patio, they said they couldn't allow sitting outside. They also said they only had 5 parking spaces, when I know from past visits they have much more. Also, cannot park there if you quickly want to go to Dunkin's next door. read more

Solid place...nothing spectacular. If you're a seafood lover you'd probably enjoy it more than someone who doesn't, like me. Their steak and steak & cheese are pretty good. Cocktails are okay, nothing great. My wife likes the seafood but it's not her favorite. Staff is always nice...service can be slow sometimes though. They do have a great view of the beach. We started coming here about 6 years ago. Fries were good and they had Richies slush at the ice cream window. I take walks all the way from my house in Swampscott to Nahant daily on the beach. Sometimes I take a bike and my four daughters go also. Well as of today I will not ever return. I took my 70s VW bus out for a ride with my two little girls and promised them a treat at Tides and we could sit and watch the windsurfers for a few minutes while they ate their treat. I pulled up to the pickup window area and parked in the 10min pickup spot. There is a hurricane coming and there is no one out today. The beach was empty and the pickup lot was also empty. We place our order walk to the side and watch the surfers when we get a call our order is ready. It's been about 3minutes. We grab the fries sit down on the benches a few feet away and I start getting the ketchup out for the kids. A middle aged man with a German shepherd yells over to us "hey is that your yellow van" and I say yes thinking he wants to talk about the bus. He tells me that my car will get towed and I can't park there. I explain I ordered food at the "pickup" window and we just sat down it should be fine it's ten minute parking for pickup window. He says no it's only for picking up inside, and then leaving immediately, and he has someone patrol so when he gets back he will be towing my car. I ask if he is the owner and he says yes. So I say well we come here all the time we bought food and no one is here I think you can control whether we get towed it hasn't been ten minutes. He says no and that he hires them for a service to tow people like me. So now I'm shocked. Why would a person owning a restaurant tow his customers while they are munching fries on a bench in front and hadn't exceeded their ten minutes on a day no one is around? I gathered my kids up and said "ok we will leave then, we also won't come back". My two year old is crying now and my six year old is mad. He starts yelling back he didn't tell me I HAD to leave he was just warning me I would get towed. Like the threat had a difference. Who in the world does this? And walking around with a German shepherd like he's policing the block is insane. He walked into the back of the restaurant with that dog also right after and started talking to staff about us. So I am going to question food service cleanliness now too. I am sure he will respond to this in some negative response about we would deserve to get towed if we were there for 11minutes and it's summer and that spot is for customers picking up actively but it's literally storming out and I was a customer with food I just bought. There is no reason for any of this. It is ridiculous. I'm over this guy and his old restaurant. I'd suggest you stay away too. No customer service. Unless saving you from getting towed so you will leave his restaurant is what he considers a service. read more

Tides is the perfect beach front restaurant. I've been coming here for years and always love the meals, excellent service and fantastic views no matter where you sit! The menu is great but I really can't stop ordering off the favorites list; so delicious- stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clam, fried zucchini, oysters, fish tacos...etc. I would however suggest someone remind the greeting staff at the front desk to greet and say thank you (or anything) when customers walk in and out. I'm giving 4 stars for the amazing views and the friendly staff. Our night started off with a 30-35 minute wait for a table but were not seated until an hour later. My meal was just ok. I had the coconut salmon which was a tiny bit over done but it came out really hot and was tasty! The grilled veges were raw but charred on the outside and were cold! The baked potato was perfect. My husbands meal was great. He had the fried haddock with French fries and rings. It was perfect. The best part of the meal was the very rich decadent chocolate cake. Yummy! I will give the Tides another try since my husband's meal was so good. One more thing...It was extremely cold in there! Everyone was going out to their cars to get sweaters, so make sure to bring one. read more

I came home to visit family after 18 years and they took me to what use to be our families favorite restaurant! I have never been to a restaurant where you had so many rules! When you walk in to get greeted they were not friendly at all! We had a large group and spent quite a bit of money! We were waiting on two people and they would not seat us even though we wanted drinks and appetizers as we were hungry! They had plenty of seats! One of the waitresses she was tall had black hair up in a bun she had no personality very very rude, no one smiled or would seat us! You can tell from 18 years a go to this year that it is not owned by the same people and it is not family oriented! We are a big Greek family with many relatives and friends and we will not be back! One day in the summer, I visited Nahant Beach for a mental health day and stumbled upon Tides. The bar had a quaint, cozy feeling. I sat alone with a drink and some fish and chips. The food was okay, the beer cold, and the people were friendly. I ended up chatting with a nice couple, and had the sense of a neighborhood beachy restaurant. I wouldn't necessarily venture out of my way to attend this restaurant, but for a day at the beach, this would be my go-to to unwind and see what conversations I'll get into next time with locals. My eight-months-pregnant friend, my two children and I just ordered $50 of takeout from here after an hour at the beach. The food hadn't come out at that point and my friend was waiting for us to arrive so she asked if we could be seated instead. The hostess said no to my friend, who was clearly very pregnant. When my children and I arrived we were all dressed and were not wearing beach wear and were waiting for our food to come. As we were talking to the hostess, a family came up and asked to be seated. She said there was a ten minute wait. I asked her if we waited could we also be seated. She said no because we ordered takeout. Then our takeout order was handed to us. I said "ok let's throw out this food, we will wait and order more food; can you accommodate us now?" She said we'd have to pay again and I said that's fine. We waited a moment and my three year old son asked if we could sit at the waiting area benches to eat. She paused and said tersely that she never does this but would be willing to open a table that she personally would have to clean just this ONCE and told me that restaurants never do this. I said I have never been to a restaurant unwilling to accommodate a pregnant customer who has paid for her food and she was just being difficult. She walked us over to the table, slammed our plastic utensils down and said "you're welcome." A few minutes later a not-super-polite waitress came to our table for our drink order and closed out our tab. I asked to speak to a manager. During this time, the section of four tables they said was closed became filled with three other families, that looked like they just came from the beach, were given table service, which we said we were willing to wait for and pay for. The manager was polite but defensive and dismissive. He said we can't just have all the takeout people changing their minds and coming back in for a table because it happens all the time. And we can't let people jump ahead of waiting customers. I said we were willing to wait and to order new food. He said well she seated you so she was able to accommodate you. I guess in his mind they were able--in the plainest sense--to give us what we wanted, which was a seat. I wish it wouldn't have involved a power play by a hostess who was rude, terse and hostile or that it wouldn't have involved my three year old and one year old children and my pregnant friend. We paid an additional four dollars for drinks and left a three dollar tip for the drink service. I will never eat here again. Oh, and my fries were as hard as rocks. read more

Beautiful day today, 85 deg so we went to the Tides and sat outside. Haven't been here in years!! Really nice with a great of view Nahant beach. We lucked out on a parking spot. Parking here is at a premium! We both ordered a combo whole belly clam and scallop plate. $$$!! Both orders were extremely over cooked and the grease hadn't been changed. Clams were hard and bellies if you could find them were non existant. We were told they were "medium", just no way! My wife's onion rings were so over done you couldn't see onions!! Not eaten. It's a shame that I had to give this place four stars instead of five. The food was great, the atmosphere was lively, the waiters were attentive and kind, and the view while the sunset was setting was gorgeous. The only downside to our experience was the hostess who was taking names near the bar. We came here August.24th Saturday night and we knew it would be busy and we honestly didn't mind the hour wait. We figured it would be busy on the last week of summer around sunset. When we came she informed us that the patio was closed because it was too windy-totally understandable. What I didn't like was her attitude. She addressed every customer as if they came just to ruin her day. Her head was rested on her hand and she was acting like we were all just a burden to her. I'm usually very understanding of less than average customer service because I worked in retail and I know dealing with people can get annoying, but the hostess was just plain rude. I didn't say anything but my grandmother actually brought it up when we sat at our table and she has been a loyal customer to this restaurant for years. It's actually one of her favorites. As much as I understand that repeating yourself 100 times in one night can get annoying, especially with the overwhelming amount of customers, at the end of the day that's what to get paid for. We considered Tides as the venue for our rehearsal dinner because of its proximity to our wedding venue. The food is good, with a variety of options for all types of eaters. The service is decent and the view is excellent. The first meal I had here was the veggie burger which I absolutely loved. It is something I would definitely order again. The second time I tried the chicken broccoli ziti. The addition of tomatoes seemed peculiar but overall the dish tasted great. Unfortunately, this isn't really a place we would pass by in our everyday lives, but I'm sure once a while we would go back. read more

I would recommend chili potato skins, stuffed mushrooms, and the steak and cheese. The pizza is the unsung menu item. My garden burger was a bit dry but the veggies on the side were excellent, a grilled veggie skewer was was a great way to present a side of veggies. The buffalo chicken sandwich was also very good, but the side of mac and cheese was horrible, very gritty and tasted like it was microwaved. The onion rings were good and the chowder although not loaded with clams was creamy and had nice flavor.I found the prices to high for the quality, our waiter was super friendly but our water glasses sat empty for too long. read more

I've always had a great time here. Great food, great people. But, lately there has been one bartender at the bar that is an absolute asshole. His name is Justin and every single time my friends and I go to the bar he is nothing but rude to us. My friend, my mother and I were just there and me and my mother were standing at the bar with our friends and Justin came towards our side of the bar and asked if we are waiting for a table and we said no, we are here with our friends and he very rudely said "well there is a waiting area. You can't stand there". That's fine. We would have moved without a problem. But it was the way he said it. He never smiles, he never greets us. He is rude. You work with the public. This place is quite nice during the day, right on the water. We stopped in for a quick dinner. The stuffed clam was ok and the chowder was more of potato chowder. I think I had 3 small bits of clam, but the broth was really tasty. The honey sirracha wings were really sweet, we couldn't really taste any sirracha but the wings themselves were juicy! Hadn't been to the Tides in a year and wish I stayed away. I don't know if it was sold or someone has gotten greedy. Draft beers were $8.25 , up almost $2 from a year ago. Apparently there aren't too many bars in the area so they feel like they can rip- off the public. Cheese pizza was $15.50 for a non descript pie. Steak and cheese sandwich $16.50 for an average sandwich. All their prices have jumped $2-$4 for average or frozen food. No wonder the place was empty read more

The location is great, staff are really friendly but that's about it. Food is terrible. Service is slow and orders are often wrong. We went with another couple, I ordered steak tips as did another person, I asked for medium well , other person asked for rare, we both asked for different sides. Mine came out rare as could be. Other party starts eating their food, mine is too rare to consume, manager comes over and I kid you not...says they must have put them in the wrong plates, scraps the partially eaten tips off other persons plate and exchanges them for the raw ones I was served. She then tries to serve me the other person tips she just switched table side!!! That's how they got one star. Gross!!!! read more

Unfortunate that this is the only option at Nahant. To begin with the waitress was very rude. My daughter has severe allergies and it can be difficult for her to eat out . To make it easier we ask to order off the kids menu. You would have thought I asked to rob the place. We had a large party and our bill would be high. Waitress stated she was not the owner and they only allow 10 And under to eat of the menu. Which I know is not true because my daughter has eaten there before with a larger group of 20 and it was no problem. We ordered the special , veggie burger , sandwiches, soup and salads etc. the veggie burger was just a garden burger you can buy at the local grocery store. Waitress stated it was a very popular item and delicious. Salads were sorry looking. I would take a hard pass on this place. Ok.. so I have been here a couple of times. The pizza is always good but the most recent visit awful. Does the chef have a nose? Absolutely unacceptable served me a salad with jumbo shrimp that was bad. How could you not smell that? Ppl could get extremely sick. If you served it to someone who did not have a sense of smell they'd be sick. This place should know better. Prime spot in the summer. Off season you have regular flow of business. Completely disappointed. You deserve a one star however since I've been to the location before and it was good you get a 2 star Sicken by the bad shrimp and really disappointed that you could serve something so horrendous. read more

The easy stuff: there's lots of parking, the place is a bit dingy inside, it's a mix of stuck up hostesses and smiling, happy people - you can't beat the location! The food was good. The chowder was creamy and though our waitress warned us it wouldn't be too thick - it was really good. We also had Lobster Rolls and they were good. They have a couple of options but our waitress pointed us in the right direction and we were happy. Our waitress: Linda. Couldn't have asked for nicer person to serve us. We were a little worried when seated because our hostess was grumpy - or perhaps she has bad teeth because she wouldn't smile. However, Linda made up for everything, gave us good tips, and just plain made our visit great. Big shout out to Linda! You deserve a raise! We ate at the bar - seemed like the better choice since the dining room seemed a bit sad and there was also a birthday party for some kids that I was glad to stay away from. The people eating and drinking at the bar all seemed happy and enjoying life. I would guess that Linda has some good colleagues taking care of patrons also. read more

2/22/2020 Ate at 3:00 for late lunch. Starting off with appearance: Floors were filthy, food on the floor, and carpet worn and dirty. I had a shrimp cocktail, the shrimp did not taste fresh; appetizer Calamari which smelled greasy, like the oil had not been changed, overcooked, and tasted like eating pork rinds. Had a large bowl of clam chowder, almost zero clams, soup thick and pasty with chunks of flour. Very poor. Luckily, my wife ordered 1/2 avocado and crab salad which was good. This last time the "just" lobster roll was NOT fresh, served cold and dry with soggy sweet potato fries -- and for "market price" of $21.95 (how do they get away with that when we all live here and know how much lobstermen get paid?). I don't go to The Tides as often as I would like to for two reasons. I'm only in Nahant during the summer & the Tides can be very busy during the summer. During off season it's a bit far just to go for dinner. However it's a nice place to grab a few drinks (careful of the local police) or have a nice meal at a decent price. Many may look at this place as just a beach take out joint. But in fact it's quite large inside with a good size bar, a large dinning room & a nice dinning deck out side, all with great ocean views. Nearly everything on the menu is under $20.00. Service can be slow some times but not enough to be a put off. read more

I assume this place is only still open because of its location. Came here with my friends for the first time the other day. I ordered a mojito, and they got frozen drinks. My mojito had unmuddled limes and mint in it, which leads me to believe that they use a mix. The mint was brown and old (no joke). My friend's frozen drinks had huge chunks of ice in it making it impossible to drink through the straw. They were not blended well. We ordered steamers as an app and also we ordered entrées. The waitress came back after about 15 minutes and told us that she was sorry about the wait, but steamers take a while. I didn't care about the wait, but since when do steamers take a while? The steamers came out a bit later and before we even had a couple, our entrees were out. I got a flounder special which was kind of bland. At the end of the meal, I asked the waitress if I could have my drink, the steamers and my entree on a separate check. She didn't want to do that and asked me if we could just figure it out on our own. Having waitressed AND bartended, I know it is not difficult to separate checks. It was a little ridiculous. All in all it was not even mediocre. They're lucky they have such a good location. If not for that, they'd surely be out of business based upon quality of food and service. read more

My fiance and I were in town looking at a nearby wedding venue when we decided to finish the day here at Tides! We sat in the bar area near the window on the beach...Gorgeous! Place was packed. Service was great! Drinks were delicious! Food was amazing and great big portions. We had the fried oysters which were cooked to perfection and we cleared the plate! Our waitress was so nice and was right on the ball! She noticed we were drinking alcoholic beverages and brought water over for us! We never went drinkless! I had lobster roll which was overflowing with tail and claw meat! It was amazing! Coleslaw was delicious...Ryan got their turkey club and it was fresh turkey breast, you know...the kind you would have at Thanksgiving Dinner!! Prices were very fair and we got to see the beach from our seats which made the experience a great one!! Can't wait to go again! read more

This is decent place, the food is good the prices are reasonable and above all it is very kids friendly. Why the 2 stars then ? Because I can't stand the owner, very capricious and rude fellow. As restaurants are in hospitality industry one assumes that the management would be welcoming and cordial. Well, not so at Tides. Try to order a drink at a bar while waiting for the table and then try to proceed to the said table when it becomes available. You WILL be made to pay and tip before seating down for a dinner. Why is this? Because the owner feels like it is a good policy. Why is it a good policy ? Because he was burned once in 1986 by a guest that ordered a drink, then sat down and ate and then didn't pay. If you try to argue that this sort of things just doesn't happen too often and may be it is time to let go those traumatic memories of 1986, he will gently tell you that he is going to throw you out of the restaurant, in those same words. So my advice is this: Come with kids, come for the calamari and pizza, come for the Tuesday specials and the views of Nahants long beach. But don't argue with the owner, you both will get aggravated and he clearly enjoys it. read more
