I had the chowder and ahi poke, and both were delish! The poke was enough for two. Hubs got the steak and brie sandwich, and it also had great flavor. The sizable steak was perfectly medium rare and tender. Our service was excellent; our server was on time during every part of our meal. We also had a perfect window view. Tides is a long time favorite of ours when in the area. Busy place in downtown next to the marina. It has a tavern like feel inside and a very large deck outside. They offer local foods and craft beers on draft. There is also a full bar and a decent list of wines. We ordered fish and chips one cod 4/5 and one halibut 5/5. Unfortunately, the halibut was ordered as a three piece, we received two, and waited for ever for the third. Our server was nice enough, but seemed to be yelling at people. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and it was packed. Looks like a lot of the retired community come here for lunch. The wait itself wasn't long however due to personal reasons we had to change our plans to take out. The host were pleasant and our experience was as expected. The ordering process was smooth because of the take out kiosk and the food came out fairly quickly. We ordered: Clam chowder bowl 3.5/5 Disappointed with the size. Flavor was good with a unique creaminess and herb after taste. Crackers were also given. 3 piece COD fish and chips 4/5 Big pieces. Had a nice flavor texture but it was a little oily and the breading was falling apart. Good tartar sauce. Fries were as expected. Parking can be limited and is on a hill so you will have to be mindful of mobility if you're unable to walk downhill or uphill (if you have to park somewhere outside of the lot). read more

This place is right on the water and has a very casual vibe. If you are Neuro sensitive expect this place to be loud and crowded and bustling and cramped. The interior is otherwise unremarkable and typical of a tourist spot you might see in any other coastal town. The menu prices seem for the food quality. There are a few options for people with dietary restrictions. My friend had the fried fish that seemed unremarkable, and I ordered a $alad and a cup of Lobster corn chowder ($12) I found no discernible pieces of lobster. Costco has better lobster chowder on their shelf and it actually has lobster in it. (My friend's Clam chowder looked better.) I ordered a blood orange vodkarita and it was very good. We shared bread pudding for dessert. It was a large dessert, and very sticky sweet served with a small dollop of whipped cream. I wish that it had more custard, but overall it was a pleasant dessert. The servers were polite, but not particularly attentive and failed to bring things like ketchup for fries, etc. because the place was so busy. It was hard to get their attention, but they were scrambling, smiley, and doing their best. My four stars is for thebread pudding, the yummy drink, the pleasant view, and the sweet young staff. I love this place. Been coming for 20 years! The view, and vibe are worth stopping in! We always get oyster shooters! Sadly I am doing three stars because the food quality and service slide so fast when they get busy and they are now always busy. I ordered Caesar salad with salmon. She asked if I wanted smoked or grilled. We waited 40 minutes for our food and I got a chicken Caesar salad.I then said I would just eat the chicken since we didn't have time to wait for the redo. Went to tides Tavern last night, August 7, 2025 and the food was good, but I thought the service left a lot to be desired. Our party of four each had food ( I had the BLT and clam chowder, BLT was great, clam chowder not so much) and drinks ( lovely glass of Riesling for me) when one of our party asked for a cider before closing out was told that there's a four drink limit. Nobody at the table had four drinks. The drink she ordered would've been her fourth drink, but the server refused and when asked when the four drink limit started said "a while" as he turned and walked away Very abruptly. Previously, he'd been attentive and polite, so the sudden shift of attitude was very noticeable and confusing. We also had a friend come over to the table to chat for a minute and sat down, using a chair from a different table. At this point, the restaurant had more employees working than customers seated so it's not like he was taking someone's seat. But the waiter was very rude in telling him he couldn't sit there at one of the 20 empty tables. Had lunch here yesterday with a friend, SO GOOD! The menu is extensive, which made it very hard to choose. She got the Cubano sandwich, I got the halibut fish tacos, everything was delicious! This is my very favorite spot to eat. Took my friend there from San Diego and we ordered bowl of clam chowder for me with bread pudding and my friend ordered Reuben with chowder. Server should have read back our order to us as most places do. It's a professional courtesy. We got the Reubens with chowder and my bowl with garlic bread. Tought it was a nice gesture. My clam chowder was cold and had no potatoes, clams or any veggies.... Just cold cream. Servers were all out by the kitchen giggling not paying attention to customers. When one finally came around we asked for bread pudding to go. Got the check and was appalled.was charged $3.50 for chowder upcharge and $7.50 for bread we didn't order. What the hell happened to TIDES TAVERN! Absolutely horrible! Went in with 5 guys, they told us it will be a 25 min wait to sit outside, we said no problem, we sat in the bar area and ordered a round of drinks, and some appetizers , drinks came, we were waiting about 15 minutes and the server said the manager told her we cant be served food if we plan to sit outside, fine, skip the food! We go sit outside 15 minutes later , 5 guys on one table the size of a frisbee, we order a round of drinks, and some food, the RUDE server , SKYLER says well you have 2 more after this and we can't serve you guys anymore! WHAT!??? He is condescending and rude during the entire visit! Tells us, since we ordered the bloody mary oyster shooter, that counts for 1/4 drink! WHAT? I've been coming her for over 20 years, something bad has happened to Tides Tavern! And to the female server who was picking her teeth with a toothpick while waiting for food at the food station, Stop picking your teeth at the food station around the customers food!! GROSS! Inside, there are various seating options, from the bar and indoor tables to a beautiful waterfront view patio. It can get quite noisy and busy during peak lunch hours. Craving delicious quick seafood, I was grateful that the wait time for two was only 15 minutes. It gave me enough time to check out their menu, or so I thought. Keep in mind their menu seems tonight change, some appetizers and drink options were different from what I saw online. My husband and I shared a calamari appetizer, I ordered the crab BLAT sandwich with chowder, and he ordered the salmon burger with fries. To drink, I chose the cider and he had the rum punch. I was overjoyed by the sandwich I had, delicious! It is more than a crab cake in a bun, it was light and flavorful. The chowder was good, too. My husband enjoyed his salmon burger; all the food was delicious and cooked well. He felt his rum punch could have had more liquor, but the taste was good. It's a cool spot by the water, at night you can't really see the water just the lights but I imagine in the day it's a beautiful view. We are here when we first moved to Gig Harbor and just went back a month ago. There must have been a management change because we found the greeters and servers rude and unaccomadating. The food here is always awesome. Everything I have tried on the menu over the last 7 years has always been good. My only complaint is the constant rising of prices. We used to go there several times a month and bring all of our visitors here as well . But lately it's been price increases after prices increases. Well over and above what we've experienced every where else. Including fine dining like Anthony's. Now we only go a few times a year. I've always ordered the fish and chips here and would give them a 4 out of 5. This time I got a half Caesar with Salmon and would give it a 1 out of 5, so I'm averaging things out here. The salmon came fishy and EXTREMELY overcooked. Maybe they thought they could cook the fishy smell out, and/or, likely, it was cooked twice. Weird. I've worked in a seafood restaurant and have cooked many a fillet; this filet would have been better at Denny's. I could've spent less on an actual entree sized salmon Cesar up at Hi Iu Hee Hee and it would have been a 3.5 out of 5. If you want decent fish and chips, you can still go to Tide's, but the dish and ambience is just as good at Hi Iu Hee Hee all while costing you much less. read more

Went to tides a few days ago for lunch. I had the halibut fish and chips and they were mouth watering ! The tartar sauce had dill pickles and plenty of herbs that was pure perfection. The food was just okay-more like bar food than a nice restaurant. The cocktails were AWFUL. There's no other way to describe a margarita and a martini that taste just like juice and water. I lived in Gig Harbor for 12 years and haven't seen any huge improvements in the Tides. In fact, their new rule that you cannot seat a party of 3 until the entire party is present and accounted for sucks! Why?! Why cannot I not come inside and get a table for myself and my aging parents who clearly take longer to get inside ? Instead we have to sit in your cold uninviting entrance while we wait on a table I could have had for us 10 mins ago! Then there's the crappy cell service and no posting whatsoever of your guest password so I'm sitting here waiting to speak to one of your busy, unapproachable staff so that I can get the password so I can send a text to my parents to let them know I'm inside ! If the food is any worse and hat the experience I've had just getting a table then I can conclude that in more than 15 years the Tides has not improved !
