We came to Gig Harbor for an art event at the waterfront, and we're starving when we arrived. This place had a 15-minute wait, which wasn't bad at all. They had gluten-free beer, gluten-free burgers with vegan cheese, and pizzas with vegan cheese. I would definitely recommend this place. My mom lives just up the street, less than a mile away and is a regular customer. She loves to bring me to Tides when I visit her. Today, she tried to get a to-go order of clam chowder, and the website is not user friendly. When she gave up on the website, she went inside the store. The only option now for a to-go order is an impersonal, non-user friendly kiosk that requires you to give it all your data, including email and address. She still had a hard time getting the kiosk to work, sat in the lobby for 20 minutes, and left empty handed. My mom is in her 70's and had a visible leg injury. The fact that the staff did not come to her aid to place the order is shockingly bad customer service. The owner who bought this kiosk to "improve productivity" and reduce staffing, ought to get rid of it, because nobody likes those things. They are inconvenient, impersonal, and reduce customer service quality, while allowing the owner to save on labor costs. Shouldn't have to use a kiosk or be a damn IT professional to place a to-go order in your favorite neighorhood restaurant. read more

Being from north Puget Sound area and having moved to AZ 11 years ago, I had the opportunity to return to the NW to meet with my financial consultant in January. He suggested Tides Tavern for lunch. it is now August and my wife who is from Seattle and grew up on Ivars clam chowder is still incessantly raving about TT clam chowder! She claims it is better than Ivars. If we go back to the NW, TT in Gig Harbor will be on the itinerary. Aside from the clam chowder, my pastrami sandwich was great. I was only there for a quick lunch but Have a big interest in seafood. Ambiance was beautiful with lots of natural light coming inside. We were really looking forward to the food here but were disappointed... Don't forget your ID, or you won't get in to this very popular harbor side eatery. Although the place was packed, we were greeted and seated immediately. Initially service was slow, maybe 5-10 minutes before we were brought water and had drink orders taken. We ordered the onion rings for the table and they knocked our socks off! Served with house-made ranch, these hearty rings are perfect to share. I'm unable to eat any mayo based food, but the husband loved the ranch sauce. Smooth and flavorful, he felt it elevated the onion rings to EXCEPTIONAL! For drinks, I had a Raspberry Margarita which was notable for not being overly sweet and froo-from. It definitely did whet my whistle! I had the Prawn Tacos, a spring special. Again, due to allergies, I had to ask for no apple cabbage slaw (which broke my heart). The lack of slaw made the two tacos look and taste puny. I'd say skip this entree if you can't enjoy the full Monty. There was a slight, slight fishy taste which I masked with the in-house made salsa. We returned two nights later so my in-laws could try the food, and my MIL ADORED her shrimp tacos, pronouncing them "AMAZING"! My SIL had the two-piece halibut fish-n-chips. A man of few words, he described them as "good". I was unable to cajole any more info from him. They looked light and fluffy. He did volunteer that he wished he'd gotten the three-piece. My daughter had the halibut fish tacos. I think she may still be drooling over this fantastic choice. Two nice sized pieces of fried halibut (available grilled, too), surrounded by a generous amount of cabbage slaw, in-house made jalapeño dressing (provides a jolt of spicy, but not too much), and another in-house dressing, chipotle aioli. These were described as "yummy", "epic" and "a must have"! Last, but not least, the hubby had the burger whose description was on the back of the wait-staffs t-shirts; the "Big A** Burger". I made him update his will before he devoured this humongous burger built around the granddaddy of burger patties: short ribs, brisket and sirloin. Meer words can't convey how much he loved this! Of course the tomato and pickle were banished, but the bacon jam and truffle mayo would have obliterated these trite accoutrements! I can't believe he ate the whole thing, but he did! We passed on dessert while we waited for a hand-truck so someone could wheel us to our car as we were beyond stuffed and satiated! We returned two-nights later with my in-laws. They had the shrimp tacos and fish-n-chips, which they loved. I had the Whiskey Jack Burger, minus the mayo. The draw for me was the crispy onion tanglers, and they were delicious! I only managed to eat about a third of this gargantuan burger! The biggest issue is parking, especially handicapped. The parking lot is severely sloped making it a very difficult walk for folks with mobility issues. Next to the amazing food, our server, Emma, was a rock star! She was funny, knowledgeable, and I really, really appreciated that she took my food allergies quite seriously, even though we were raucous and silly. We were on our way to Heritage Distilling (my wife bought me a private cask for our anniversary) and stopped in for lunch. We were seated immediately and our server, Julia, was prompt and friendly. Not sure how busy it normally is and the icy, 27F weather may have had something to do with availability. We ordered a hot tea and diet cola with a crab BLaT and the halibut and chips. Figuring we'd be having drinks at Heritage, we skipped the drinks at Tides - although they had some selections that sounded very good. Food delivery was fast. The homemade tarter sauce was very good. She enjoyed her BLaT - the single bit I got to try was very good. The use of flatbread was a cool idea. The halibut and chips was well fried without being oily. Needing a change of scene, we drove to Gig Harbor on Sunday and found a parking spot in the lot adjacent to the Tides Tavern. After a lovely, long stroll through the town, we were hungry and pub grub seemed just the thing. We had a Tides Tavern Amber and a Georgetown Mannys as we perused the menu. Settling on the nachos with chicken and guacamole, I also decided a Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter would be just the thing to start. The oyster in the shooter was HUGE! Normally don't like oysters so big they can't be slurped right down, but this was tender and briny, so I didn't mind a bit. When the nachos came, we were both surprised by how generous the portion was. They're served on a pizza pan with the condiments on the side, and we knew immediately that our plans for a big dinner later that evening would be put on hold. The nachos were tasty and fresh, and though the place was bustling on a Sunday afternoon, service was attentive. And the view across the water was a nice bonus. It's a lively place with a fair bit of noise -- but happy noise! I'm guessing it's a local hangout most of the year and a very popular tourist spot during the summer. If we lived closer, I'd be there more often, working through their extensive menu. But we're not that far away, and I pretty much guarantee we will be back! read more

We came to Tides Tavern while on vacation in the Northwest. We were here wiht friends and had to good experience. Above the typical sports bar, Tide's food selection focuses on seafood, pretty obvious for the area. The kitchen does a good job. The rough plank interior is reminiscent of the lumber history of the area. Plenty of screens to watch sports on but not so noisy that you can't talk comfortably. Our server was friendly and propmpt with our service. The potatoes in the chowder were firmer than I prefer but not by much. My salmon burger was juicy (aka messy) and tasty. Now it's highly unlikely that you will find yourself in the picturesque town of Gig Harbor. I was attracted by the history my wife was interested in the "cute little shops". We both enjoyed the town. Looking for a place to eat we came across Tides Tavern for lunch right on the waterfront. Even for a sleepy little town the place was buzzing with locals so I knew this was a good choice. We started out with a couple of drinks. It was 12:30 so day drinking is allowed. I had a rum punch which had a good punch to it. My wife had the SHILLING MOON BERRIES CIDER. Damned good drinks. No wonder the place was jamming. I ordered the BLT and it was excellent. I honestly don't recall a better BLT in my 64 years. My lovely wife had the "award winning" clam chowder. It received my wife's top prize. In other words she didn't leave any for me so she loved it. Go to Gig Harbor friends. Buy some souvenirs and drop by Tides Tavern. Eat some lunch and get a little tipsy. You've earned it. read more

Red flag warning when lot isn't full on Friday night at 7:45. We kidded about it on the way in.... I will lead with Service was great- thank you Skyler! But sad to report- The food was nothing to return for. Between a BLT that had bacon I couldn't chew and a Hawaiian mac salad so loaded with garlic it was inedible. Burgers were basic and offered nothing more than convenience of not messing up my own kitchen for the night. Prime rib dip may as well have just been old shoe leather and was tasteless and ugly gray mess on a plate. Very disappointing a bill well over $200 left you less than pleased that I should've just stayed and cooked at home . (And I get the economics of the bill and why prices are the way they are). Walked in and were seated immediately and customer service was good. We were seated by the window and they had a great view with beautiful flowers on their deck. My partner and I started by sharing a bowl of clam chowder and was pretty good. I ordered the seasonal salad with prawns and my partner ordered the halibut and chips and wasn't sure to get a 3 piece or 2 piece and the waitress said they were a pretty good size so he got the 2 piece. My salad came and looked beautiful but wasn't mixed and come to find out that the toppings were only on the top making there to be a lot of dry lettuce underneath which was hard not to spill when mixing the salad up . And the prawns I ordered for 7 extra dollars was only 3 small pieces on a skewer... they were good but definitely not worth the extra 7$. The fish and chip were very good but had an issues with how they were priced, only because it made no sense between the cod and halibut 2-3 pieces. We ended up doing the math because we were so confused. The halibut cost 8$ a piece meaning the chips cost 10$ The cod cost 3$ each meaning the chips cost 16$???? (We got these prices by the difference of how much a 2 and a 3 piece cost and what ever leftover is what we assumed was the cost of the fries) Sorry but I'm not paying 16$ for some ok fries especially when their "pound o'fries" is only 10$ on their apps menu (8$ if u go during happy hour) and what we got wasn't even close to a pound of fries So all in all the food was good minus my salad and it was just ok but very pricey for what you get. read more

Tide's Tavern was my first stop in Gig Harbor for this business trip.  It had been a long travel day and I was hungry.  It was around 2 PM on a Monday.  This place was BUSY!  I was kinda shocked LOL  Guess people eat lunch late around here ;)  But I was seated in the bar area and a lovely lady came to wait on me.  She was so nice and seemed to know so many people in the bar.  Once I opened the menu and saw Happy Hour 2-5 I knew why it was so busy!   They had a nice selection of local brews and a large menu with tons of variety.  I found the HAPPY HOUR SPAM MUSUBI: A classic Hawaiian snack featuring a sweet soy marinated and fried slice of Spam layered over perfectly cooked sticky white rice, seasoned with furikake and wrapped in a sheet of toasted nori on the menu and just had to try it.  Come to find out the chef is Hawaiian so there are several things on the menu that celebrate this!  It was really good and it was a decent size! Added some soy sauce and delish!  For my meal I opted for the Reuben: House-roasted corned brisket of beef on rye bread with sauerkraut, melted Swiss, pickles and 1000 island dressing. Served with horseradish sauce on the side.  I asked for very light on the 1000 and they did just that!  I was good with the horseradish.  I chose clam chowder as my side and it was decent as well.  Prices were a bit on the high side for me for the tavern type food, but still happy I stopped in. read more

Went on Thursday night about 6:30 it was not full. Took 15-20 minutes before server came to the table. My husband ordered a beer, a couple appetizers and I asked to taste the cider. 10 min later the beer and tasting came so I ordered a cider and asked for water. 10 min later water and cider,ordered the meals. Then appetizers a few minutes later. Finished appetizers and empty plates sat on our table no one came to.pick them up. Then server brings food and puts it down in between the empty plates. After which leans over the food to remove the empty plates. Ordered poke (ahi was from frozen can tell by the texture) nachos with chicken added and a rueben sandwich. The nachos were not edible there were so many jalapeños on it you could taste nothing else. Server response: do you want this ? Came to visit in August. I lived in Gig Harbor for 20 years, but moved to Phoenix in 2018. I always love the food at Tides, I try to make it a point to stop in every time I visit. Fish tacos were excellent, and I grabbed one of their summer season cocktails, which I would definitely get again. The wait for a table was not long at all on a Saturday mid-day either, which I was surprised! Patio open, full service everywhere. Highly recommend, as always. read more

My last three visits to this place have been excellent. Parking is a little tricky. I shoot for 4:30 on a friday. Steak salad is delicious and is my favorite hands down but the other options look good also. Here is where I take my family and friends for a fun and good meal. Each set of people I introduce to this place love it. If you are lucky enough to get a table facing the water, it is beautiful. Just Go! It is busy for a reason! Great food and great service. You will pay for the view but they don't skimp on quality. Fresh cod for fish and chips with fries that compete with the fish. Best appetizer is the alder smoked salmon on toast with big pieces of salmon, best part of our meal. Had the taco salad with chicken, a pile of fresh greens and a grilled chicken breast.
