The food was good. Not amazing but fine. I had the beef and barley stew in a bread bowl. The serving was small and the bread bowl was very plain with no flavor. I would have preferred a bigger serving in a bowl. Our group also tried the soup and a burger. The service was very good. read more

My friends and I came to Timberline Cafe for dinner because we were staying at The Madison right next door, and apparently as part of staying with the hotel, we're given a $10 voucher for this spot. Since we didn't really know what to get for dinner anyway, we came and all got a burger and fries. At first, the cashier gave me the wrong price and was about to charge me $2 more than what I was supposed to pay, but I asked for the tax percentage and why the price was so high. He fixed it, and we all owed about $.80, but they wouldn't take credit card so we gave them some coins and dollar bills we had. In any case, we took our food to-go, so we waited for a bit for them to cook our food and then went on our way. The burger was pretty average. as it didn't have much flavor other than beef, and the fries were also just alright. It was a lot of food though, and we were all really full afterward. read more

If you want to have their breakfast sandwich with hash browns prepare yourself for a hospital visit. The bun that came with one egg and a slice of cheap processed cheese was saturated in oil. The hash browns was virtually dripping oil without exaggeration. Go there at your own risk. Went here for breakfast for the price the food it was not great. Ordered biscuits and gravy one of the easiest things to make. The gravy was from a powered mix. The biscuits were a step above the pop biscuits you can buy in a can. The coffee was terrible. read more

This is a very nice and quiet place and the service was excellent. We stopped here for lunch upon our return from Yellowstone national park over the past weekend and were happy we picked this restaurant to eat. The food was great and Emily, our waitress was awesome. She was always smiling and checked on us a couple of times to see how we were doing. She was very accommodating to our specific Vegetarian needs. My husband had a hot turkey sandwich and I had the salmon. Both dishes were very good. The salmon dinner came with a salad that you make yourself. The restaurant ran out of baked potatoes and substituted mashed w/o letting us know first. The waiter and owner were very nice and both apologized. We order chocolate cream pie for dessert and it was "homemade." It ended up being a pie shell with instant pudding filling and whipped cream on top. Would we come back? I'm glad we were here for breakfast (with $5 off coupons from our hotel) because some of the dinner reviews look pretty bad! The best thing was the steak in the steak & eggs breakfast. I also enjoyed the hashbrowns and eggs but those things weren't anything exciting/special. The worst thing was that we talked with the waiter about my husband being gluten-free and he still spaced and put bread on his plate. We said something about that when the food arrived and I think he said something like "oops" or "oh, right" and then walked away. Gluten thankfully doesn't result in a hospital visit for him but he still feels it when it ends up in his food so he left the food that touched the bread on his plate (and immediately knew we wouldn't be returning to Timberline). Struggling with the stars for this place. 4 feels right for half of our party and 2 feels right for at least one of us. I ordered french toast and a side half-order of bacon. The food arrived quickly but I was disappointed to find both the french toast and the bacon were only lukewarm; how is that possible when there were only four other diners in the restaurant?!! Masks worn and it felt safe, despite being indoors. The meat choices on the front page of the menu seemed a bit pricey, so I turned the page over to find reasonably priced pasta dishes. ($15-21) The Lasagna was very good. (They also have an interesting butternut squash veggie lasagna that uses white alfredo sauce, but we didn't try that.) The Angel Hair pasta with Pesto sauce was pretty bland, though. The Cherry Pie was excellent! And their house Malbec wine was surprisingly good. Service was friendly and prompt. read more

We stopped in here for dinner after a day trip to Yellowstone and the food and service did not disappoint. This was also my first time eating bison meat which was really good and felt a lot lighter than steak. I ordered the bison meatloaf that included veggies and a choice of side. The meal also included unlimited soup and salad which was a really good deal! The service here also really stood out for me. Our waitress was super attentive and just made us all feel really welcome! I'm not sure when I'll be back but I'm definitely planning on it because Yellowstone is just an amazing place. This cool little place is nestled right next to the world famous three bear hotel lodge which sort of looks like a one hour motel but that's beside the point because three bear lodge is terrible but this place is awesome so we went here on 5 September and we ended up being diverted around Yellowstone because West Yellowstone was closed due to a fire. We looked everywhere for something to eat because we weren't able to get back into Yellowstone until about 10 o'clock at night and either do the covid or do to just be a small town everything was closed however this place still have the lights on and still had people eating. So we went inside and we asked them if they were still serving food and if they are still serving drinks and what time they close the kind waitress said yes we are to both questions and we closed at nine the ownership of the place either because people were still coming in or they knew people were in a bad spot or they saw that people just wanted to get some adult libations and them just kept staying open and kept serving food and it was awesome. They have a very large menu they have a large drink selection and I chose the three sliders off of it with the bison slider the elk slider in the mixed meat slider and let me tell you that is a good meal the elk slider is phenomenal read more

Go to Madison Crossing for great trout. Our poor waitress was so embarrassed and apologetic but that still doesn't cut it with me. I wish her the best. She was very attentive and followed up on everything. Beer and wine selection very limited. Vinocopi BTG, really? This food was phenomenal. I don't mean to be dramatic, but this was the kind of food I'd expect from downtown in a city. They don't pretend to be a steakhouse, they are a cafe, and you can expect that ambiance. Nonetheless, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with the food itself. I had the bison ribeye. I had never had bison before, but I usually like my steaks either medium or medium rare, so I tried it medium rare and boy was it delightful. The meat itself tasted much like steak, but the fat was a little gamier, but not enough time make much of a difference flavor wise. As a person who loves both lamb and venison, this was no problem and very much welcomed. I substituted a Caesar salad for the regular side salad and it was perfectly dressed. I don't even like steamed vegetables, and they were perfect. I actually loved them! They were really good and I shared them with my parents who happily ate some too. I had ordered regular fries, but they accidentally brought out sweet potato fries. I gave the sweet potato fries to my parents who exclaimed that they were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. My dad described them as "the Cadillac of sweet potatoes." Rachel, our waitress, brought out some regular fries and they, too, were phenomenal. No complaints could be mustered. My mom ordered the Montana Camp Stew, which was served in a bread bowl. The stew was overflowing the bowl and my mom thought it looked a little weird, but the moment she tried it, she was thrilled. She said it was warm all the way through and the veggies were all perfectly cooked. She said it was perfect. She couldn't finish it all and my dad happily enjoyed the rest. My dad ordered the Guacamole Bacon Burger, and he thought it was great. All he said was "it's a burger" but when pressed he acknowledged that the avocados tasted fresh and it was cooked how he liked. For his side, he substituted the onions rings (small surcharge) and he said they, too, were amazing. For the first time in my life (22 years) my mom asked to speak to the chef. Chef Juan came out and we gave him glowing compliments. After a long day of hiking, he earned every compliment. I believe that even if we hadn't hiked so much he still would have deserved every compliment. Finally, I have to compliment Rachel, our waitress. She was personable, fun, and kind. She was polite when I corrected on the fries mishap (which turned out to be a real blessing!) and she was really wonderful. I'm so happy we got to know her for the time we did. For the life of me, I cannot understand why the reviews on this restaurant weren't higher. Sure, the ambiance is homey, but we're all visiting a National Park! I wouldn't trust a place with a classier ambience!! This restaurant is really good. My family is planning to go again and try for breakfast tomorrow. Only ate the dutch apple pie, so this is just a pie review: Wanted to get some after lunch but they were prepping them and they were not out of the oven until 7pm. No matter. I wanted the pie for breakfast. Enjoyed it with a cup of black coffee watching the Paint Pots in Yellowstone. But about the pie: lots of fresh apples, thin sliced, not too sweet. Reminds me of the pie one of my aunt's made back in the day. Wish I had time to explore other pies here, but the dutch apple is terrific. read more

The Timberline Cafe is quaint and relaxing with a woody and outdoorsy interior design. Service is friendly and speedy, and the atmosphere will make you want to linger. The food is satisfactory for a diner, but you won't be blown away. The omelets are on the smaller side, but the pancakes are top notch. Gluten free options are not marked on the menu but are available (no toast substitutes though). Prices are a little on the higher side, but almost everything in the area is marked up so it ends up being a good option given the location. If you're looking for a solid and reliable breakfast or brunch, the Timberline Cafe will do nicely. read more

When I walked in I was worried. It was loud and looked like it needed some TLC on the inside. We were met by a very pleasant funny waiter. My husband had their trout dinner which he liked. Even after hearing all the fish was frozen. We had a mixed green salad with their delicious home made ranch. I had the butternut squash lasagna. Which was small, an ok portion for me since it was pretty rich. Their kids portions were small but priced fairly. We also liked their selection of local micro brewed beers and ciders. We had the Poor Fisherman Cider from Montana. It's one of the best I have ever had. Their menu has a lot of options. It's decent for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. read more

Timberline Cafe was the first place my boys and I had dinner at on our first trip to Yellowstone last week. My kids had chicken strips and fries and were very happy with their food. They both ate it with no complaints and that is saying a lot for them. I had a cheeseburger which was ok, nothing great nothing terrible just average. The service was great. Our waitress was a young woman named Elizabeth and she was great! She was very friendly and attentive to the needs of my boys and myself. She constantly checked in on us. This was one of only two places we ate at (sorry, McDonald's doesn't count) while we are in West Yellowstone. It was a good dinner and I would recommend Timberline Cafe to anyone looking for dinner while visiting Yellowstone. read more

This place was great during the pandemic, very considerate when my husbands mask broke. They seated us an appropriate distance away, the waiter was pleasant, helpful & enjoyable to talk to. By the way, we wish him the best at the U & hope to see him sometime in the neighborhood of WVC. I got the open faced roast beef & my husband had the club. His was good, more than he could eat. My friend and I went there for breakfast on Sunday, sept.8 2024. There weren't many people in there and the host set us up on a table right next to the kitchen. We wanted ice water to drink apparently that was the wrong thing to say. We got a carafe of water and two glasses. Had to ask for straws. We made our order and because I asked to not have Nutella, just put the fruit, and whipped creme on top. I got my waffle. No whipped creme and the server/manager seemed put out for me asking for whipped creme. Finally got some whipped creme and he seemed agitated because I asked to have more than the little swirl in the Middle of my waffle. Host/server had his underwear showing. There were no hi how are you doing today. The staff acted as if they were doing us a favor instead of treating us like a valued customer. I gave it 2 stars. Because the was okay. But we will never go back. There are plenty with polite staff happy to take our business. read more

This place sucks lol. In a location with such a great amount of people I can't believe how they can just serve less than decent food.

We just got back from this restaurant. Worst service ever. We ran into a waitress who was a "Karen" needlessly rude and belligerent. My husband who is pre-diabetic asked if the french fries be substituted with a vegetable or a salad. She said that could not be done. We said fine and my husband ordered from the single serve salad bar that he never got. When I requested that the cost for the salad bar be removed, she stated that was not possible. I asked why and she stated that she would have to rewrite the check. Needless to say, we paid the bill in order to avoid any further confrontation. She then returned to the table wadded up the bill and threw it in my direction with the bill landing on the table. I discourage any further patrons from going to this establishment. Aside from the rudeness, the food was cold, and my friend's plate of chili appeared as if it had been sitting on the counter all day. She also made it known that the owner was her best friend. read more
