My sister and I had our last meal in West Yellowstone at this quaint restaurant. We didn't check Yelp prior to stopping in which is kinda good considering the mixed reviews and great experience we had here. I just want to say that our waitress, Mindy, was AWESOME! Super friendly, attentive and helpful with choosing food and beers. I had the lasagna and it was so good! My sister had a turkey burger and she enjoyed it as well. We got acquainted with local beers, Big Sky IPA and Pineapple Express. They did not let us down! We finished off our dinner with huckleberry ice cream which is a must if you're here. Food is ok. Service was good. It seems like they don't put a lot of thought into how they prepare their food. I doubt there is much food preparation going on. The Angus Burger was way over cooked and the patty was cooked with a weight on it because it was extremely dry. My girlfriend grew up on Stagg chili. She swears that's what they served her. They brought us diet soda instead of our requested Dr. Pepper. It was more like a city diner than a cafe. read more

It was fun comparing each one and trying to figure out which slider was elk, bison or sausage. We went here because we just got to town after an 8 hour journey. Starving, tired we just wanted a hot meal and go to bed. We were really disappointed. Not only were the prices HIGH but we were sorely disappointed in the food. We get that it is a resort town and prices are higher but the portions according to the prices need to be scaled accordingly. My husband ordered ham steak & had the mashed potatoes and gravy but the gravy was sweeter than the pineapple on the ham, eww. He couldn't even eat it. Home cooking at its unrefined best. This is a modest place with great service. We found everyone friendly and eager to please. Plastic plates and cups. Has bison meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh steamed veggies. All very tasty and well prepared. Hearty and flavorful. Simple fare prepared well. Salad bar is again simple but very fresh and had good choices; not overly large. The chocolate cream pie was great with one of the tastiest crusts I've had in years. read more

We chose Timberline Cafe for our second dinner in West Yellowstone and it was a solid choice. The service was impeccable-- water was supplied quickly and kept filled and everyone was so friendly. The prices in town are steep for most "entrees" so we stuck with sandwiches and such. I got the open faced hot roast beef sandwich - served with homemade mashed potatoes and all covered in brown gravy. It was absolutely delicious and reminded me of the same meal that my mom used to make. (Except my mom would toast the bread so it didn't get soggy as quickly but I'm not knocking Timberline for not doing that!) My husband got the beef and bean chili with homemade cornbread and he loved it- practically licked the bowl. My son got the chicken tenders and fries and had no complaints. This was a perfect meal in a vacation filled with too much junk food- a home cooked meal is exactly what we needed and got at Timberline. Go--- you won't be disappointed! read more

The older male server we had was excellent and very pleasant. The food was okay, too! My only complaint is the hostess with the brunette hair in a short pixie cut style. She was incredibly rude and did not even greet my mother who said "hello" to her at the door despite making eye contact with her and then promptly walking away. When she came back she asked "how many" twice-- in a cold manner without even asking how how we were doing or saying hello. We noticed that she seemed a lot more accommodating and attentive to other guest at the restaurant. It's important that the first person that greets you at the front door is pleasant and welcoming to every guest-- otherwise it can sour the experience. Because of that-- I wouldn't recommend coming here due to the inconsistent service. Please train her so that she can provide better customer service to all guest when they come in the front door. read more

As expected during covid, this place wasnt too busy on a Friday night. This is probably the 10th time or so we have visited this place and as always it did not disappoint. The service was Fantastic, the food was prompt, hot and cooked exactly as we requested. The server even went the extra mile and loaded my baked potato. This time I had the Bison Steak and baked potato and my wife had the chicken strips with fries. All were better than perfect. The lady tried to tell me my kids (that are under 4years old) had to wear a face covering. Per governor rules kids 5 and up have to wear a face covering and she made me leave bc my kids didn't wear a mask walking to the table. BEWARE!!!CHECK YOUR TICKET BEFORE AND AFTER YOU PAY!!!!Our waitress, Tashi was very nice all throughout until she brought my ticket. She brought a ticket for 111 that had the obligatory 18% tip for groups over 6 which was fine. I handed her my card and she brought it back with the finalized bill and basically threw it at me and left immediately before I could say anything. It was for $126!! I looked around and she had completely disappeared. I had to ask someone to get her. Finally she came back and was visibly flustered. I told her this was incorrect and she got her manager and they had a hushed "huddle" for about 5 minutes before i finally got up and joined in. They were obviously up to something and it took some time to get it straight. They say they reversed the 126 but it's still on the Account ( prob will drop). My issue is that it was an obvious attempt to add an extra $10-15 to the bill. She was counting on the fact that we had 4 kids and were busy. I'm typically a 30% tipper but after that she got the 18% only. I was not rude or mean in the least but she didn't say a word after it was straightened out. The food was cold and horrible. Don't waste your money. The fries were burnt and cold too. We got there on a Sunday evening around 7pm and they were out of chicken, country fried steak and some other things. I wish they'd told us that before we sat down. I'd of done a turn around out the door. The only thing going about this restaurant is the waitress that waited on us. She was very friendly and helpful. My daughter and I wanted salad bar. My husband wanted steak. There were three or four restaurants with similar menus, and this place looked decent, so we went for it. They were busy, but seated us quickly. Had water and menus almost instantly. Very friendly waitress - didn't catch her name, but she had curly dark hair - took our orders after answering a couple of questions; minimal wait. Salad bar was fresh and comprehensive. So we ordered take out for here and they charge an 18% gratuity for take-out orders. This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard a restaurant doing during Covid. My friends and I have tried to continue to support restaurants even though we are not comfortable eating in most...we get take out so restaurants still have business. I STILL leave a tip; however to just apply a charge for absolutely no service makes no sense. I understand restaurants have lost business but don't turn a bad situation into something worse and over-charge people who are trying to support you. read more

I cannot say anything good about this restaurant. Every aspect of this restaurant upset me from the food, the prices, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the service, and the quality, it was all crap. The prices - I understand that Im in Yellowstone and that the prices around here are more expensive but paying more than $20 for a crappy plate of spagetti and meatballs or meatloaf is absurd! A $15 burger better be damn good and NOTHING here was close to worth it. $10 for a tiny salad bar and a tiny cup of soup is not eveb worth it. The food - Disgusting! What a waste of money for the food you do get. We had 8 people so I got to see many different menu items and none of them were worth the price. My husband's sliders came with fries and they were straight cold, stale, and tasted like they had come from under the heat lamp upon coming out of the kitchen. We asked if we could get new fries and they kindly obliged at least. My mother's butternut squash lasagna looked like something Id get from the freezer section of the grocery store and almost everyone else's food needed salt including the Split Pea Soup. All I ordered was a cup of soup which was $4.50 for Vegetable Beef and a side order of Sweet Potato Fries for $4.50. I really shouldn't have spent $9 for this. My niece and nephew spent $4.50 each for a bowl of Mac and Cheese which if it was lucky was Kraft but we both know it was just the $.70 box store brand. Yikes. The restaurant - moving on, the restaurant is kind of what I expected for what I was looking to pay in this mountain town. It's tiny, quaint, and mountainy but if Im eating Bison Meatloaf for $23 I expect a much nicer atmosphere with no peeling wall paper, pale pink booths, and a clogged toilet in the bathroom. The service - all the wait staff doesnt seem to know what theyre doing or seem to care much. All 8 of us were crammed in a 6 person booth and we were hardly cared for through the whole thing. Thankfully she brought the fries when I told her they were cold but other than that I cant say she stood out at all. She seemed to want to avoid us. Overall, you can tell Im extremely disatisfied. Also the staff is willing to give you tips on best spots in the Yellowstone park to visit . The food was good . Ordered French toast with banana and the other day a the omelets . Well.....swing and a miss. We came to the Timberline for a dinner service after coming from Yellowstone. The "service" we received was more fitting for the likes of a school cafeteria than a professional cafe. The service really was the worst part. Inattentive wait staff, 30mins to get 2 entrees on our table (after waiting 10 mins to be seated in a 3/4 empty restaurant), and rude/flippant behavior. On top of that, my friend who ordered a burger, asked for a side of mayo - took our server 11 minuets to get that to our table. And no, she was not waiting on other customers. The food was...edible? I had the chicken fried steak that had a pretty good Italian sausage gravy, and the breading was crispy - not oily at all. However, the steak was WAY WAY WAY over cooked (I was not asked how it should be prepared - I assumed it would come out medium), the steamed vegetables were mush with no flavor, and the fries were shriveled and without texture - also just mushy grease. The burger slider trio was the second entree. Same story with the fries, but the burgers - while well assembled - were nearly raw in the center! I think the kitchen messed up - burgers should be cooked through (for food safety reasons) and steaks should be left pink. Very disappointed. I would not return, nor could I be paid to step foot inside again given the fact that, at the time of our visit, there were 16 members of a 1%er motorcycle gang also inside. After a long day of exploring Yellowstone. We were pretty hungry. I can't survive on huckleberry ice cream in the park forever (wait - yes I can). A diner in Montana ought to have some good, honest food right? I think the Timberline Cafe has a bit of an identity crisis. They're a diner that cross-dresses as a restaurant. It looks like a down home, Montana grub type place. They offered grilled trout and other nicer-than-Denny's food. The trout came out dry and quite sad looking. The food was not exactly hearty either. I've been dodging bison all day! I need real food! The vegetables were overcooked hideously and everything was sub-par. To add the final insult to injury, dinner for 5 came to $130+ !!! read more

Great breakfast! First off, I'm a bit snotty when it comes to food. When I walked in, I wanted to walk out. It's the exact atmosphere I dislike. Country theme. I expected over buttered eggs and crap coffee....but it was just the opposite! My hubs had the meat omelet...yum! Pancakes moist and delicious! We actually had to order more because my daughter plowed through them! My mom had steak and eggs, pretty normal there. I had eggs and a cinnamon roll. It had a hint of orange to make it different. Not amazing, but not drenched in sugar either:0) oh. And the coffee was pretty good! Most of the coffees we have had in MT has been super watered down. Yuck.
