    BLT sandwich

We were looking for a place to have lunch and decided to try Timberline Cafe. There was 13 of us. We walked in and were seated right away after putting some tables together. We ordered shortly thereafter and the food was brought out in a timely manner. I had the chicken wings and my wife had the BLT sandwich. We were both pleased with our food. The rest of our party enjoyed their food as well. Good food, good service makes for a good time had by all.

We stopped in West Yellowstone and randomly found the Timberline whilst shopping and exploring. It was a nice looking diner-type restaurant, and to be honest, it was just ok. The service was just ok, and the food was just ok. we were there for lunch, and I went with the slider sampler. One (the bison) was good, one (the elk) was ok, and one (the mixed meats) was just eh. I got a couple bits of bone in the mixed meat one, which was not great. My wife got the hot turkey sammich. Again, it was just ok. I did like the interior of the cafe. It was cute.

Very nice waiter from Istanbul, great salad and soup bar, and I had to try the Bison Burger. Nice place, and customers said you have to have their pie!

We were really hungry after being at the park all day, and saw this place and wandered in. We were seated immediately, and the place was very cute. The seating is spacious and nice. I got the hamburger, it was amazing. Cooked to perfection! My husband got the bison burger and loved it. Kids got chicken fingers and were happy. Get a burger! This place is perfect.

Angle Hair Pesto (well, with spaghetti noodles) but still was good.

Small restaurant but the menu is good - something besides burgers and fries although they have those too. We walked right in and were met by a server fairly quickly. I ordered the Angle Hair Pesto, my partner ordered the salmon. Both were quite good.

    Supposed banana cream pie

The salad bar is pretty good. That accounts for the 2cstar rating. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. And you could get a one trip of soup and salad for $7. The macaroni salad tasted like Resers...which I like. The cottage cheese was good. The banana cream pie was a joke. Perhaps the baker never had a slice of that pie before because what they served was banana pudding in a pie shell. The young lady server showed her inexperience with such a basic pie by trying to say that the cream was in the pie. She said she makes the pie. She needs to google what the cream in banana cream pie means. And why bananas are an integral part. The hubby didn't like his roady beef sandwich. Said it was dry. Dad liked the shrimp and fries. Save yourself and eat elsewhere unless you want a deal with the salad. Staff was pleasant and prompt.

Our hotel was right next to this restaurant so we gave it a try. We enjoyed their beef and barley stew on a cold rainy night. Their sliders were decent as well. Overall, the food was fresh and tasted great and the service was excellent!

In a town where…read morebreakfast options can be somewhat limited, service can move at a different pace than larger cities, and many establishments don't open particularly early, Book Peddler fills a nice niche by serving good coffee, made-to-order breakfast items, and offering a genuinely enjoyable bookstore to browse before heading into Yellowstone. I'd still suggest checking their website for seasonal hours, but we found them open early enough to comfortably fuel up before entering the park. The coffee program is surprisingly strong for a small tourist town bookstore café. They offer several locally roasted coffees, including lighter roasts, darker roasts, and decaf options, along with espresso drinks and specialty coffee beverages. We found the coffee to be among the better options available in town. The breakfast menu was another pleasant surprise. Rather than relying solely on pastries or grab-and-go items, many of the offerings are prepared to order. You'll find breakfast burritos, sandwiches, vegetarian selections, and meat options, giving most travelers enough variety to satisfy differing tastes. It's one of the few places in West Yellowstone where you won't be steered towards elk or bison! During our visit they offered both vegetable and ham quiches, along with chili. Everything we tried was fresh, satisfying, and felt like a step above what we expected to find in a small gateway community. Service is solid, though perhaps not spectacular by large-city standards. Orders can take a little while during busier periods, but honestly it felt very much on pace with West Yellowstone as a whole. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure guests had a good experience. Given the town's relative isolation and dependence on deliveries, it's also not uncommon for certain items to occasionally be unavailable, whether that's a specific milk option, produce item, or pastry. We found the staff to be upfront about availability, and it never materially detracted from the experience. The bookstore itself is worth spending some time in, even if you originally stopped by only for coffee. The selection leans heavily into Yellowstone, national parks, western fiction, travel, and regional history. It's a much better place to find a unique souvenir or gift to bring home than another shop selling the same T-shirts, magnets, and trinkets found throughout town. Final Thoughts: Book Peddler quietly does several things well at once. It's a good coffee shop, a surprisingly strong breakfast stop, and an independent bookstore that rewards browsing. If you're spending a few days in West Yellowstone, I would recommend making at least one morning visit before heading into the park. We enjoyed it enough that it became part of our Yellowstone routine. -AC

I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage, green bell peppers, onions, and eggs with buttery hash browns on the side, plus the soup of the day which was the Tuscan soup, and both were really good. One of my friends ordered the cinnamon roll pancake, another got the classic breakfast with buffalo sausage (which was surprisingly delicious), and the other ordered a meatless breakfast burrito. Everything at the table looked fresh and hearty. I also loved how easy checkout was. They bring the receipt directly to the table with a QR code so paying was quick and convenient, and our server was super accommodating by splitting the bill four ways with no issue. The restaurant itself has that cute cozy cabin-style feel, plus they sell fun T-shirts and souvenirs inside. Extra shoutout for helping me wrap my breakfast burrito to go before our flight. They brought me foil paper so I could keep it warm, tossed it in my bag, and yep... I ended up eating it on the plane later. Definitely a solid five-star breakfast stop while visiting Yellowstone!

After a particularly warm day of hiking, my husband and I resolved to try OTC -- especially since signs read that it was established in 2023. Keeping restaurants open is very hard work. I was interested in trying a buffalo burger while my husband looked forward to more trout. Since this is a family-friendly restaurant, perhaps the entry should be rethought. The door directly opens to the bar, which has high tables where families can be seated. (Here, we chose seats so we could watch the World Cup match.) There's another room with more conventional, lower tables. I asked for sliced jalapenos to be added the buffalo burger with cheddar, lettuce, sliced tomato, diced raw red onion on a toasted bun. Diners can specify to what extent the buffalo is cooked: medium or med rare are recommended. Substitute side fries for a side salad (romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese & crutons) for a nominal fee. * Ask your server to hold the cheese on the salad if you don't prefer it. No luck there, but it turned out that taking a chance on the real thing was worth it: I had the best vanilla affogato ever, with very little tummy trouble afterward, and my hubby discovered huckleberry ice cream. Some of the choices here will take a bit longer to put together - the bubble waffles are made at the time of purchase, and take a couple of minutes in the iron. Espresso is also made one lovely shot at a time. We were lucky enough to visit W. Yellowstone in early May, when there aren't any lines, so waiting for a minute or two wasn't a problem, especially when it turned out the ice cream and espresso were both so delicious. For a small shop, the menu is really diverse. There are two different types of waffle cones (hot bubble and premade standard), a full range of coffee shop essentials with alternative milks (almond, soy, oat), crepes, shakes, and a few panini sandwiches (including vegetarian). Indoor seating is limited, but there are outdoor tables as well. The shop is small, but cozy and offers some souvenir items as well.
