The owner was very personable over the phone and answered all my questions in a professional manner. He even let us check in early because it was the off season. When we checked in the front desk was again very friendly. Check in was simple. They let us pick out several movies to watch from there vast vhs library, lol. If you want to stay in a respectable clean place that won't break the bank I would recommend this place. We found this place via Groupon, when I called to find out more information I spoke with the owner she was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in Cabin #7. The living room decor had changed from prior pictures posted but it still had a cozy feeling. The cabin is a bit small for a large group (2 families sharing 1 bathroom) but we definitely took advantage of the outdoor amenities (perfect for summertime.) The kids loved the playground, tether ball, as well as learning to play card and board games. We bbq'd while enjoying dinner on the picnic tables right outside our cabin and had smores at the fire pit. The area is extremely quiet and well kept. If you are looking for a place to make your kids unplug from video games and enjoy the outdoor surroundings as a family this is the place to stay! read more

We are finishing up our stay here after 3 nights. The room was very cheap and we got a good discount on the stay. The old adage is right, you get what you pay for. The low cost trade offs were: road noise off of the main road, really soft (past their prime) beds with notably aged comforters and sheets, a non-working room fan, and minimal room housekeeping. So, relative to the low cost of the room, the stay was middle of the road no frills acceptable. We would stay here and be ok if we couldn't scrape together enough coins under the couch to upgrade to another joint. In other words, the room is the means to support the amazing Big Bear Lake recreation but by no means a destination itself. P.S. I recommend an upstairs or single story room; we thought there were times the upstairs tenant was going to step through the ceiling it was so loud. We also got to hear the low hum of their snoring at night. P.S.S. The common areas were very loud up to midnight with kids yelling right outside our window. My wife had to ask the other tenants to quiet down which kind of ticks me off that she had to do that. The owners should probably send someone around at 10PM to enforce the quiet time. P.S.S.S. Good location down Big Bear Blvd, our cabin was very comfortable and accomodating with 4 queen size (2 per room) beds that are new mattresses. Cabin 7 has a kitchen which while small, has everything you need to prepare a meal. We actually made pizza with the oven and it was a lot fun and it came out great. We all enjoyed having the fireplace also. We made smores on the second night and I think was cozy and warm and added to the fun for all of us. Wood is provided if you want at a reasonable price. The tv remote did not work and the door to our room would not close, but the bathroom was nice and the shower worked well. The heaters in the cabin will keep you warm, you can adjust the heat. Great place to come back to relax after a day on the mountain. Parking wasn't a problem. We were very satisfied with the value, we found the rate very reasonable (midweek) for a comfortable cabin. I have been coming here for years now and stayed in almost every single cabin TL offers.. Its the only place I stay at when coming out to Big Bear. Close to Downtown and close to bear mtn and summit. Great service and always accommodating to my needs. I usually arrive in the freezing night and greatly appreciate a room that is nice and toasty (they make it a point to have the heat on for me...Love it). The price is more than reasonable. Many options regarding meeting ones needs ie full size kitchen for cooking with dishes, pots and pans etc. or more simple rooms where you just need to crash over nite and head out to the slopes. If your not one to expect resort level stay but more of the old cabin feel where mgmt will remember your name year after year, i highly suggest staying here... read more

Booked a room with room77.com for Timberline Lodge for 3 nights 10/2-10/5/2012. We were able to get a 1 room cabin for a fraction of the cost of a hotel room. It had Full kitchen, fire place, queen bed, and several other amenities that made the stay cozy. The owner was very accommodating and pleasant. (GREAT CUSTOMER CARE :) On the down side the walls were thin and we could hear the conversation from the neighbors and the TV. And the mattress was very uncomfortable and warn. And though it was a great touch to have a kitchen. It wasn't fully stocked with the things needed to create a full home cooked meal. For those who want more than a motel room it's a good choice for the cost of the stay. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here about 2 weeks ago for a friend's wedding. I made a reservation here because my girlfriend liked the thought of staying in a "cabin" instead of a regular motel. Well I have to say that it really is a cabin. A pretty nice one at that. We stayed in the 2 person cabin, #14 I believe. It's pretty small but perfect for 2 people. Some cracks on the wall and the place looked like it had been there for a long time, but other than that it was pretty cool I must say. The bed was pretty big, TV got intermediate cable, somewhere between broadcast and basic cable. Pretty quiet even being next to the the major road. The Village shops are pretty close down the street, as well as a couple of fast food places to eat. The owner was very nice and even called us after we made the reservation, day before our reservation, and the day of, letting us know that he wouldn't be at the office and gave us a way for us to let ourselves in whenever we showed up. For $86 total on a Saturday night where 3 other weddings were taking place, as well as a Jazz Festival, with all the other hotels booked, this was a really great deal and we definitely would not mind staying there again next time we go up there. read more

Had to ditch this place because it was in such poor condition. I tried hard to overlook the broken window blinds, cracking walls, the moldy bathroom, the saggy bed, animals under the floor, having to pry open the stuck front door with a fireplace poker, and most fixtures being broken but it was all too much when my socks turning brown after taking off my shoes. Option A: Wake up at the butt-crack of dawn. Drive 2+ hours to the resort. Rent snowboards & boots. Buy lift tickets. Learn the A-B-C's & 1-2-3's & do-re-mi's of snowboarding. Eat lunch, drink caffeine. Be exhausted. Then drive the 2+ hours home. Exhausted. Option B: Look up room rates in Big Bear per your boyfriends suggestion. Find the diamond in the rough, Timberline Lounge. Reserve Cabin #14 online for less than a benny. Get a prompt call from the friendly Fendi (the owner, not to be confused w/ the purse) who informs me he will leave the key in the door so we can check in after hours. Drive up in a leisurely fashion the night before to the quaint & charming Lodge. Walk in to a comfortably climate controlled room (Fendi took it upon himself to put the heater on to make sure we show up to a warm & cozy cabin). Spark a fire in the fireplace using one of the $6 bundle of wood. Enjoy the quirky (yet, exceptionally helpful) array of notes for every possible piece of knowledge you'd need to know about for your stay. (I.e: Don't use the fireplace & the heater at the same time or heater will automatically turn off. Heater reset button is located here "arrow." Turn shower faucet to the right for hot water. et, al). Take a steamy hot shower with an overhead heater in the restroom, Have a good nights sleep. Wake up at a reasonable hour. Check out. Have a friendly chat w/ Fendi, who hands us a 50% off snowboard rental equipment at Get Boards, as well as some new year gifts of travel toothpaste & shavers for the road). Rent equipment with ease for about $16. Buy lift tickets. Learn to snowboard. Eat lunch, drink caffeine. Very spacious,extremely clean,it was too good for such a cheap price. It exceeded my expectations. I went with a big group (10 adults and 3 kids) and we rented cabins 8, 9, and 10 over President's Day weekend. It was plenty of space for us. The cabins are soooo cute, and they were clean and really comfortable. The beds, sofas, and carpets appeared to be brand new. Good mattresses. I slept like a rock. The place has a really great outdoor play area for the kiddos. They have swings, play houses, and tether ball (yes, tether ball you guys!!). What else can I say? The cabins each have 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room with big flat screen TVs and fire places, dining area, and kitchen with a stove/oven, refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. They also have free WiFi. The staff was super cool. They were always available if we needed anything. We were within walking distance from the Alpine Slide park (aka "Magic Mountain" but not the real Magic Mountain) that has this cool toboggan slide down a big hill (the adults enjoyed this just as much as the kids), some restaurants, bars, and shops, and some great bring-your-own-sled areas. The grocery store was close, too (maybe 2 miles away). We'll definitely stay here again! read more

My family loved their stay here at the timberline lodge. We actually came as last minute guest with two day notice they still accommodated our 7 member group. They offered cabin #2 which is perfectly located near the play ground where you can keep an eye on the little ones from the kitchen or the outdoor firepit & bbq area. They also have a heated pool my two younger girls wanted to swim in at nite but it was a lil cold for that, so I made a fire in the fireplace & that really helped with that issue. They also have kitchen with all you're needs handled except the food, which is great just come in & stay. I will be back for future stays. The staff is great as well & help with any questions or solutions to any problems you might find, but my stay was great no problems at all just a happy family.... Don't make the mistake I made - notice the fine print. Their policy is no refunds if you cancel. I felt like they misrepresented themselves - the reality did not match the photos and description I saw online. When I said that I was disappointed with the cabin and the property, the owner was staying firm on "no refund." I urged her to reconsider. Finally she agreed to give my back my money if she could rent the cabin. I agreed to that since it was Labor Day weekend and it would probably get rented. But I stressed out about it all weekend. She said she would call me when she rented it, but she didn't. I went back the next day and they said they had rented it. But I felt like I had to keep checking in, and they were not communicative. In the end, she charged me $76.90 because the people who moved into my room got a different rate. I will still pursue the rest of the $. I arrived hoping to stay here with my kids, but the property was not up to par and not like the photos I saw online. The front desk person was wearing PJ pants (at 4:30 p.m.) which was unprofessional. Our cabin looked out onto a view of a huge cabin tented for extermination. This was Labor Day weekend. The pool had dirty towels thrown about. Lots of debris throughout the property. The cabin looked old and unwelcoming. They sit along a busy road with lots of noise. Me and my boyfriend stayed here last Friday for one night only we booked last minute and wanted somewhere that we could take our dog with us. I wasn't sure what to expect when we got there, they guy who runs the place is so nice. we Called when we were about 20 min away and he informed us that our room was ready and we could check in early which was great ! We had to pay an extra $15 when we arrived for the dog. When we got there the heat was already on in out cabin which was no 15. I must admit it's not the most stylist but it's warm and cute and the fire makes it very romantic the location is great we walked to a local bar that night for a few drinks .. All in all I was happy with it ! Only complaint is it had only blinds, curtains would have made it a lot better but yeah would totally stay again and the owner even said to call him personally to get a cheaper rate read more

I have no idea why this place has 4 Stars on Yelp, unless friends and family are writing reviews. We came here as we had a Groupon, check in time is 4pm, check out time is 11am. At 5.15pm I received a call from the owner asking us when we were checking in as she had to go. Leave.... as in not come back. We were half way down a hiking trail. We got to the cabin at 6pm and everyone had gone. Key was left in the door. Cabin was nasty and dirty, see my pics where there's about 6 electrical items running thru each socket. Cold water came out BROWN. No - this is NOT normal for Big Bear, I've stayed up here at many different places over the years and have never seen that before! We wanted to check out at 8.45am. No one in the office, they had told us the evening before we needed to sign the credit card slip. We called and they are not there until after 10am. We went to go get breakfast and then had to drive back to the lodge to sign the slip. That's crazy there is no one on the property 6pm - 10am. The cabin was OLD and everything felt dirty. Lots of dog hair on the couch and we didn't bring a dog! We couldn't wait to leave. EDIT BASED ON OWNER'S RESPONSE BELOW: Shannon - we did change our reservation but we paid the upgrade charge for the change of date so let's mention that also. Below is your confirmation email to me - there is no mention that check ins have to be done by 5pm. We did not bring our dogs but that's no reason to provide a cabin that has someone else's dog hair on the couch when we get there. There was wood and Duraflame logs next to fireplace - we had to use it. We were not given a discount for the wood or Duraflame logs and the lady in check - out line behind us had the exact same complaint - her heat didn't work either, and she was also told - "sorry no discount for the wood". I've stayed all over Big Bear over the years - this was definitely the gnarliest place we've ever stayed at . We stayed here this past weekend (Veterans Day weekend). One night was plenty. My husband planned a last minute quick getaway (made reservations Saturday for a one night stay on Sunday) since the kids were out of school on Monday for the three day holiday weekend. On the way up, my 6 year got sick and I was the lucky one who stayed in the cabin, not leaving once on Sunday to take care of him. The website lists free wifi, but when it did work, it was so slow it kept kicking me off. Why did I start with the wifi review? Because I was so disappointed/disgusted in the room I was trying to write the review while I was there. The room was not quaint, charming, or rustic. It was just plain old and worn down. We are a family of 5, and the room we reserved (unit 4) had 4 beds (perfect for us). Except the comforter and blanket underneath were dirty and ripped and had holes. The sheet on one of the beds had stains. I did not let the kids lay directly in the bed/pillows - I actually took towels and made them lay on that. The mattresses were ripped underneath AND there was trash & old socks(?) underneath. How well did they clean prior to our arrival? Just a basic vacuum? The floor was filthy and stained. Some of the furniture was missing knobs and had obvious wear. There were two desks in the studio. When I went to serve the soup my husband brought back for my 6 year old, he couldn't sit at one of the desks because there was only room for the chairs, not his legs. Why have chairs for a desk if you can't sit at it? Speaking of the chairs, I also put towels on those - there was NO way I was going to let the kids sit on those badly stained chairs. The bathroom floor was dirty against the bathtub and the shower curtain was ripped at the top and had small mold spots. There was trash on the floor behind the bathroom trash can when we got there. Again, how well was it cleaned prior to us arriving? Why didn't we leave? Well, like I mentioned my 6 year old got really sick on the way up & I just needed him to rest nor did I have time to drive around finding a place while he was getting sick in the car. Luckily, I always carry Lysol and Clorox wipes when we stay overnight somewhere, so I was able to do a light clean before my husband and other kids came back from their Sunday adventures. Check out was 11am on Monday. I made everyone get up early and shower & get ready so we could leave ASAP. I'm not sure what the other cabins look like that warrant other reviews to give this place high remarks, but based on this stay, in this cabin, we won't be going back. read more

The description of the cabin I booked was misleading, but I think it may have been due to the language issues with the owner, who is Asian. However, he was amazingly accomodating and helpful. We saved a ton of money and the location was excellent. We had a view of the lake, my kids could play in the children's area, we cooked in our cabin, and the place was less than a mile away from tubing, and really close to the ski areas. We had the experience of spending 4 days at Timberline Lodge. It was overall a very pleasant experience. The 5 kids with us had a great time. The chalets we stayed at were clean and very close to pretty much all the fun activities in the area. The owner and crew were very accommodating. We were able to check in almost 4 hours early which was nice considering we had 5 people and 3 dogs. We stayed in cabin 8. The cabin had a huge living room with 2 bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen came fully stocked with utensils and cookware. Overall it was quite and very peaceful at the lodge. All amenities mentioned in the description were provided and the price was well worth it. We will definitely return. read more

This was my 5th time staying at Timberline Lodge, price is great, and the owner is so sweet, he will help with anything! Cute and rustic, love the fireplace, and they have wood in your room for purchase! Nothing fancy, but feels like a cabin in the woods, and that's why I keep going back! My husband and I came up to Big Bear for the weekend for Oktoberfest and stayed here Saturday night. They let us check into our room early which was nice. The owner is extremely helpful and a very nice man. I loved that there was a fireplace in the room and that we had our own cabin to ourselves!! Perfect little place for an over-night stay. read more
