My husband and I came up to Big Bear for the weekend for Oktoberfest and stayed here Saturday night. They let us check into our room early which was nice. My family and i (2 adults and 3 kids.)visited Timberlinbe Lodge a fews weeks ago for about 2 days. it was alot nicer that i had expected, to be honest. Also, the prices didnt hurt my pocket at all. The heater worked great, kitchen was fully stocked with silverware, pot, plates, etc. (although i had brought my own.). Nice looking on the inside; had a small living room area with a small couch, flat screen tv and cable. Very clean. The property was conveniently located to The Big Bear Village and others stores as well. When we went there was tons of snow, so the kids play area was nice to have so the kids could play in a safe area. The staff was very kind and helpful. The only thing, i think, we had a small issue with were the beds. They weren't very comfortable. The kids slept like rocks but my husband and i didint sleep very well. All in all though, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who isn't super high maintanance and wants to just relax in a small, yet cozy, cabin. :) read more

Great Deal, Decent Accommodations, VERY pleasing Staff This was the best deal I found on the mountain, especially if you are on a lower budget.We were offered an upgrade at a very low cost. Our cabin and 2 rooms, everything we needed in the kitchen, 2 tvs, fireplace, etc. Very cozy and comfortable. We went with a party of 6, including two young children, and were overall very pleased with our little cabin. It's close enough to town and nice and quiet. I think that these reviews say a lot more about the people writing them than the business they are reviewing. If you are going to Big Bear and are expecting all the accommodations to parallel a Ritz-Carlton, you are going to be very disappointed. If you head to Big Bear realizing that wherever you stay is going to be a bit more like camping than a 5-star resort, you'll be much better off. The Timberline Lodge more than met my expectations. The desk manager/owner was very friendly and engaging. Made my 4 girls and I feel very welcome and at home. The rooms all have vcr's and they have a huge library of over 200 videos you can watch- all for free!! A lot of kids movies to choose from too! The room itself was cute and quaint. We stayed in cabin #4 since it sleeps 6. As I stated earlier, it's not the "Honeymoon Suite" of a 5-star hotel. It was a bit aged, but that only added to the overall feel of staying someplace in the wilderness. It was clean and comfortable and that is really all that matters to me anyway. This particular cabin didn't have a kitchen, but it had a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. If you are going on vacation to spend most of your time in your room or hanging out by the pool, then the Timberline Lodge and Big Bear are probably not for you. But if you're looking for a safe, clean, and comfortable place to spend a few hours winding down from a busy day of checking out all that Big Bear has to offer, then this place is more than adequate. read more

This place is awesome! After stopping at multiple places that were ridiculously high priced, me and my buddy found this place. The owner was extremely kind and accommodating and set us up with a great sized room at an awesomely low price. the room had two queen beds, a small kitchen that included bowls, plates, and silverware. it also included a microwave, and two heaters to keep the room extra warm. The bed was extremely comfortable. The tv was a small old tv, nothing special but it worked and the owner had over 200 movies to rent from in the office for free. he also offered free wifi. This place is perfect for any snowboarder/skier that is looking for a comfortable, low priced room, thats close to the mountain. I will definitely stay here again! read more

I have been staying at the Timberline Lodge on trips to Big Bear for 10 years now. You probably won't get as much value for your money anywhere else on the mountain. The property is older but it is kept up extremely well. Never had a problem, everything is clean and in working order. We travel with our pet beagle here and he also loves it. The pet fee is reasonable and Fendi the owner often runs great mid week specials on the cabins which vary in size to accommodate couples on a getaway to large families and are equipped with fireplaces. There is a playground for the kids and a nice pool for the summer months. It's not the Ritz but The Timberline Lodge is perfect for its outdoorsy mountain location ! read more

This place is amazing! If you want a cabin in the woods experience, this is the place to be. It has a fire place inside the room and a picnic/bbq area outside. Has a nice porch area outside your door to relax and feel the mountain fresh air and feel. Aside from the price being so affordable, the fire logs and other amenities are reasonably price. You definitely will feel the experience you are looking for especially if yo have kids. Very family friendly and even has a play area. It is 1/3 mile away from pine knot trail, for hikers and mt bikers. You don't have to buy a pass or parking permit because it is so near from timberline. If you want an affordable vacation experience this is the place to be. Call the Manager Fendi. He gave us a price better than what you can find online. read more

We had a great time at the timberline lodge. We stayed in unit 7 which sleeps 8. Perfect location for kids. Has a little play area for the kids which was covered in snow for the kids to play right by the cabin. It's close to the village which was nice. The staff was friendly and we will be returning next winter. read more

We came for the weekend of 01/29/16 to 01/31/16 we stayed in cabin 1 for 8 people it's right above the office. We were very please with the cabin, it was clean everything worked (fridge,stove,microwave,coffee maker,heater lamps and fireplace. I MEAN EVERYTHING. my family had a great time we even had a private deck....when we got here there was ice on the deck it made it a bit slippery to walk on, but the gentlemen in charge of the property came and shelve it.IT WAS REALLY NICE OF HIM, we had our bbq without any problems...we had a great time overall I will definitely come back again......ps I was one of those ppl that read the previous reviews and had second thoughts about this place BUT don't let does negative reviews fool you this place was clean very quiet and with great upgrades the staff is friendly....oh and my bulldog also enjoyed it lol I WILL BE BACK THANKS A BUNCH TIMBERLINE LODGE FOR A GREAT TIME.....oh one more thing there is free wifi and direct tv with movie channels THAT WAS A PLUS FOR ME I will be posting pictures soon read more

This was a great value, and it was cute and cozy, fantastic service, the owner is so nice, when we were late arriving, he called to make sure we didn't get lost, left the key for us, gave us goodies when we did check in, just super nice. For the last couple of years this has become our escape from the desert heat, every August as the heat sets in we head up to the Lodge for a cool vacation in our favorite cabin! This place has everything, volleyball court, swimming pool, kids play area, horse shoe pit and bar-b-que's available and it is all within a quick drive to downtown Big Bear for anything else you might need. Another great thing is this place is pet friendly, which was really welcome news since we have a fur baby who loves travelling with us! The last, but most important thing that sold us on the place was the friendly owners and housekeeping staff, these are a great group of people and we can't wait to get back to our second home! read more

MOUSE FECES IN KITCHEN I usually don't write reviews unless I am super pleased by the experience/service, but the lack of cleanliness of this simple place was disappointing; - Mouse/rat feces in pots and pans - Hairs on several pillows (beds made) - Crumbs and orange juice on the cutting board - Half full beer can in the window - The wall around the stove looks like it never has been wiped - Fire alarm went off when we turned on the oven, so I assumed that hadn't been cleaned either. Moreover, the "full kitchen" is so sparsely filled that we had to scramble to find something resembling a breakfast bowl for the five of us, in this rental advertised for 6. Worst of all though, we arrived in the evening with three kids and needed to both cook dinner and breakfast before anyone arrived in the office. He then questioned our integrity by implying that we were trying to scam them, since we had cleaned instead of calling an emergency line. After consulting with his supervisor he offered only some firewood and a late checkout, with the argument that since we had booked through a 3rd party (hotels.com) he could not offer any discount. We paid $540 for three nights on a non holiday weekend. I sure wish I had paid more somewhere else. read more

I've stayed at this place every year for the past three years! I will never go back! The prices are different every time I've stayed around the same time, same season, and same room! The owner or staff member whom I spoke to about a stolen article was accusatory to say the least! I left before checkout time to get some breakfast and took everything of mine except a Bluetooth JBL speaker that I left plugged in to charge. My intention was to return before checkout but we decided to just checkout, forgetting about the JBL charge I left plugged in. When I returned two hours later to gather my item it was missing. The gentleman at the counter explained only they guy that changes the sheets was in there and that he did not see anything. BULLSHIT! No thief that has been in someone's employ for years would ever come clean about them stealing something once they already have done the deed! This place does not wash there comforters, the are not honest and forthcoming about room fees and employ untrustworthy people. I would highly recommend other cabins and hotels in the area that are cheaper and much more accommodating. Room was sub standard and shanty. read more

I bought a one night, Saturday-stay at Timberline Lodge on Expedia for $87. I looked at the reviews, TripAdvisor gave it 3.8 out of 5 stars. I thought I scored a deal. Oh my gosh was I wrong. There is a difference between "old" and "rustic". This place is OLD. I started out in cabin 11 and almost cried when we opened the door. It had furniture and decorations that were worse than a thrift store. Kitchen cabinet doors were cracked and hanging open, the rug/mat in the center of the living room was frayed and curling up on the edges, the "couch" had no softness and literally was like sitting on a bench. In addition, when we got there, it was 39 degrees outside and the cabin was 54 degrees inside. It had two bedrooms and 1 bath and the only heater was in the living room. It didn't blow heat, it whispered heat. When I called the front desk, they sent over a portable electric heater. Way dangerous, but it beat freezing. The VCR (yes, VCR) wouldn't work for the kids' movies we borrowed from the front desk, so I had to call again. The bedspreads were so thin and only 1 blanket on each bed, no spares anywhere. Had to call again. Last straw was the fireplace which blew smoke out of every vent. The maintenance man told me to leave the door of the fireplace open all night so it would vent properly. I asked, "What about after we fall asleep? Won't the cold air come in?" He shrugged and said he didn't speak English well. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one, is the manager moved us to a different cabin. #16. This one was quaint. Lots of cows, but in a bit better condition. But, old means thin floors, and at 11:00 when the upstairs people could not stop their child from running around, I had to go up and knock. At this point, I'm just done. I am never coming back to this place. It seems like you have to play the lottery a bit if you stay here. If you're lucky and get one of the "quaint" cabins, you might be OK. If not, you will waste your money. I would not have stayed if the manager hadn't moved me. I would have eaten the $87 and driven home. I would recommend you don't take the chance and just avoid this place. read more

Very disappointed ..The screens to the windows were bent like someone tried to break in before. We had ants crawling on us. We paid for 2 nights..only stayed one night.Still trying to get a refund for 2nd night. It's inexpensive..but does need some tlc!!! read more

This place is honestly the worst... I checked in the guy there was so nice and chill that was a good part of the whole thing. when we got to our room the floor was dirty the bathroom was dirty and on top of that, the whole place smelled like pee omg I got a really bad headache by that smell on the bed there where some hairs and other nasty stuff. Was kind of scared of booking this place after seeing some of the reviews however I'm glad we went to this place. Stayed in cabin 15 right by the road the road noise isn't bad as long as your not the type to sleep with no noises on. We used the fan in the room it worked fine to drown out traffic noise. The room itself was bigger then i expected bed seemed new and very comfortable. Bed was a pillowtop not to soft or to hard just right. Sheets were very soft didn't feel like sand paper and they were clean. No weird smells. My dog was welcome here its hard to find a decent place to allow a big dog without crazy pet fees. Bathroom small but had a full bath and shower it was clean. The grounds had a nice kids playground with a variety of things my 3 year old had a blast. Would definitely stay here again. If i had to give one suggestion it would be to put new blinds in room some of them are broken with gaps. Also there are quiet time signs posted around the property according to some reviews there wasn't a sign so it must be new. Also if you have little ones the tv gets all the kids channel's like disney which is nice. Highly recommend this place ill be back :) read more

The beds were clean and comfortable. The mattresses seemed new. The sheets and blankets were nice and soft. The 2 living room couches each had pull out beds, which were also clean and comfortable. The furniture was all new, and there was plenty of living space. The heaters worked great, we were warm and comfortable. Great water pressure in the showers and plenty of hot water for our large group. There are flat screen TVs and Wi-Fi. Great location, very convenient to get to the local attractions. Came up for New Years, had booked before reading the reviews, decided since we did actually get a place for NYE we thought we'd just stick with it. Dave is a new owner and seems to be trying his best to upgrade older units, we stayed in #4 which we were told was the last to be remodeled. The heater worked great(a reviewer had stated the heater didn't work in this unit) it's a very old unit but comfortable, limited noise from above. The grounds were ok, playground was full of garbage, I picked up so my kids could play, there's poop in and around the grounds, you pet owners are to blame for being so dang lazy! The fire pit out there was AWESOME!! We had a huge fire in the 27 degree weather, good times. I feel Daves only set back is the knucklehead in the green parka with glasses. Very rude! Say hi Asshole we're paying your salary!! Get rid of him and bring in a friendlier staff then this would be at least a 4star.. I would stay there again!! Thanks Dave for the hospitality read more

We went to Big Bear for the day with our 3 year old grandson and decided to spend the night. We picked Timberline after looking at several typical motels but liked the individual cabins and the playground. The price was very reasonable and the cabin was perfect for the three of us. TV, fireplace and a nice kitchen. We had fun playing in the playground and watching the squirrels and birds. The room was clean and comfortable. It is short distance from the Village and the lake. We also did the lake tour on the Miss Liberty Riverboat, which was fun and very well narrated. We will go back to Timberline Lodge on our next trip to Big Bear. And they take pets so our dog enjoyed the stay also. read more

Timberline is a good place for families. I went with my husband and my son. Timberline was surrounded by tall pines, had that cozy cabin feeling, a swimming pool, playground for kids, and a horseshoe ring area. There's also a picnic area with a great view of the lake. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. Fendi, the owner or manager was very nice and helpful; he gave us a visitors guide and showed us good places to check out. Love this place, I stay hear everytime i am up in Big Bear. The owner is A really nice guy, always ready to answer to any needs. We need paper towels and firewood with in 3 min he had it ready for us. The Cabins are clean, roomie and super homie, they have tvs, a fridge with freezer, microwaves, and ovens with stove tops. Rustic cabins but very well maintained. The front desk was extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The rooms was well kept and clean. They even offer firewood if you want to make a fire in the fireplace. The bed was comfortable. The sofa bed was old and uncomfortable to sit on though. We have been coming to Timberline with a large group for four years now. The property is perfect for hosting groups and meeting outside for dinner or bbqing. The proprietor Fendi is very helpful and will accommodate special requests. The cabins are rustic but homey. I LOVE the full kitchen facilities that they offer in most cabins since we do not like to eat out every day. The rates are very reasonable and dog friendly! read more

The lodge is about four miles from the east boat ramp, right on Big Bear Blvd. It is a quiet, family atmosphere that is very pet friendly. The 2 bedroom with 2 queen size beds in each room that we stayed in was old, but clean. It had a small bathroom, kitchen and a balcony that the manager let us BBQ on. The living room area had two couches that have seen better days, but were actually comfortable. The manager has a large VHS and DVD library that he loans to guests for free. We stayed during "shark week" and that is all my kids wanted to watch. Luckily the lodge has free WiFi and I could sit on the balcony and watch movies and TV shows on HuLu. Although it is far from being a 5 star lodge, the manager and staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. He gave us 50% discount coupons for a local bicycle rental place that was also a great deal. I am sure there are better places to stay in Big Bear, but for the $57 per night we paid, plus the place sleeps 8 people - you can't beat it. read more

The check in is normally four, but I asked if we could check in earlier and he was able to get the cabin ready by 12:30. Each cabin is quite different so it's best to really look online and see the descriptions. Only half a mile from a national park picnic area that had great sledding hills. We booked a cabin this past weekend and upon arrival decided to upgrade to a bigger cabin. The owner was very nice about it and gave me a great deal on the upgrade. The cabin (#2) was very comfortable and cozy. There was an issue with the heater but the hotel manager fixed it right away. He is a very nice guy and was there whenever we had any issues/questions. I take my son somewhere for a day or two every summer, and thiss year was tough because I am unemployed. Naturally I have also been stressed our so a bit of time with nature was in order. This so called cabin was cheapmso we went up to Big Bear because we know it well a could stay in a cabin It was not a cabin. It was the bottom floor of a dulex, but or the price it was not an issue. It was an okay room, and the kitche made it better. It was just the peole above us walking . The floor squeaked . They were other wise polite but if some one else were up there it could be a problem. The room was adequate and clean. The man eho ran the place was obliging. And this , my friends is what you must be advised of.he has free snacks and offers you fire wood, he will not mention the charges so be forewarned he is a hustler. We stayed two nights. My son misplaced the key adnwe let him know so he could be safe and wecould pay the fee. It was steep $10, but ok, even though I am sure he found it by the pool, I had no leg to stand on. Then he asked about the wood. He had offered some when we checked in,it is July but I let my kid grab b some as BB is chilly in the evenings. He asked about how many fires we made and ran gup $10 . I paid the 29$ in cash and when drove back I told my son we would not go back because the man was dishonest . Today I open up my bank statement and there is a charge for $158 . We checked out Thurday morning. . I wondered why I was being charged , checked to see that i had paid Hoktels.com. Yep, thats why ai didt qualif fpr the 3rd room free, even tough I foundout about it from their sight . His was why we came.tothe lodge. I had paid for a room two nights at hotel .com and this 1/3 more than that . I was wiped out . I could not believe he waited 3 days , then went in and robbed me! I wondered if something was wrong with the room. We cleaned up, left everything that was not ours and I think they have to let you know befire they charge you for damages anyway.myy son is 12 years old. Hes a good kid but they all find trouble maybe he flushed something or wet the bed. I am ocd about check out . I look fr stray belongings , pick up trash be aise the kid thinks he us a rock star. Motels do that to people i was and am enraged I had my room mate call because i was spitting blood. The guy said he would check and call back He did not,l My room mate and I saw the amount change as we were talking to him. He said he woukd give us $2000 id we showed him he had charged us. There was now a 20. 00 fee, he said for amenities, my room mate reminded him we paid in cash. Ater this the fee was gone, but I down loaded the statements before that happened. It is easy to pull a stunt like this.people are very trusting. I try to support small business and the good folks in Big Bear who are off season but still an oasis not far from LA. This guy ruins things for everyone. He's underpricing all his competitors, then gouging guests to make up losses. Worst of all this is all I can do about it. He will not be arrested. He is his own boss. And he will get away with this more often than not. Don't finance his life because he does't have any concern for yours and the poor ethics of Americans are destroying us and America. read more

Staff are flat out lazy and not accommodating to help.I've asked a night staff in help in installing tire chain for an incoming icy weather since i'ved told them that I don't have experience in installing-he said I don't know and don't have anyone to call to help and I've asked him also to write a note to the Manager to help me in am since I was wanting to leave early. Nobody came and when I went to the office,saw a different guy and this time ask if he has something for me to use to clear my windshield and said he doesn't have anything -just use a cardboard or something he said. After I was done defrosting the car by turning the heater-I check out to the same guy and he said he is the manager.I just flat out didn't say anything because I was so mad when he said - you know what I have a scrapper in my car after the work is done. How can you leave in a place and don't know how to place tire chains or have a window scrapper around. I guess it was my fault in not being prepared but this are business that tribe to customer and they should be willing to extend help in whatever way so their customers be safe, I don't recommend this place,their are more places to go. read more
