It's a dive but the burgers are OK and there is a large selection of beers. The main drawing card is the Monday night live blues.

There are so few bars in Rockland, and even fewer worth going to. Skip this one, leave it for the targeted demographic.

This place has a great, friendly atmosphere and a popular blues night on Mondays with some big name acts and a cozy dance vibe.

They play different music on speakers while live musicians are playing. Not appealing whatsoever.

My sister and I had been walking around Rockland, not a city with a shortage of good places to eat,…read morebut I kind of wanted a place I hadn't been before, that was close to her apartment. We settled on Waterworks and it was great! Despite our walking we weren't overly hungry and so decided to split a turkey club (another benefit of splitting it was that we could have onion rings!). The staff couldn't have been nicer - and although it was a bit slow, when the sandwich arrived it was perfect - yummy real turkey on sourdough with a nice lettuce and tomato, crispy bacon and just the right amount of mayo. We opted for onion rings - and they are the good kind - thin, crispy, not frozen. It was all totally delicious.

This is not a fancy place, just a friendly neighborhood bar. We were able to get a seat at 5:30 but by 6 the whole area was full including the bar and some of the outdoor seating. Gregory was our server and he was so helpful and attentive, answering my endless questions! I ordered the chopped salad with steak which was cooked perfectly and the salad was fresh. My partner ordered the burger with bacon, cheese and onion rings, and fries. We both agreed they were both great meals. The wait wasn't long, and it was a great ending to our day.

Though the food was mostly good and the space was nice, the…read moremenu was rather limiting, the dishes had flaws, and the service was a bit off with regard to timing. I had a Black Manhattan cocktail, supposedly differing from an ordinary Manhattan by use of a different kind of bitters (Amaro) and "filthy cherries." These seemed like basic good quality maraschinos to me (3); nothing "filthy" about them. Nevertheless it was good, fruity, and ample strength. The appetizer selection was small and heavy on bread-based items. (No free table bread was available - grrrr.) Most didn't appeal but the Roasted Garlic did, served with bread (2 kinds: a toasted crostini and a fresh crusty sourdough). The garlic was a whole head, sliced open for easy access and presented on a very hot plate, sweet and mellow from long slow roasting, and served with a choice of cheeses (molten blue, brie, whipped feta, or chèvre) - I chose chèvre and it was very good and a generous portion. A very simple dish not often encountered in restaurants. In retrospect this was the best part of the meal. I felt a little rushed at times and impatient at other times. It took a very long time to get the appetizer so I had nothing to dilute the effects of the strong cocktail. But then more than once I was asked about my entree before I was ready; once when ordering the appetizer and another time soon after I received it and hadn't made up my mind yet. I held my ground and told them I wasn't quite ready, and they accepted that and I took my time eating. There was an eclectic selection of wines by the glass. I had an interesting rosé from Slovenia. My entree was a roasted fish filet (halibut I think? It's no longer listed on the menu) served over a tomato-based sauce. This sauce was richly scented and complex and the plate was attractively garnished with micro greens. But the fish was on the small side and the flavor was monotonous - no discernible browning on the top. The other component, probably an herby cucumber-yogurt sauce resembling raita, which should have been a cool complement to the hot tomato broth, instead was melting unattractively and dispersing into it. Perhaps most disappointing, there was nothing else to this dish. It needed a starch or something (rice, boiled potatoes, or even more of those very good breads from the appetizer - wish I had saved some.) So it's good I got the appetizer first, or I would have left rather hungry. Desserts were also very limited and most didn't appeal. I decided on the Clafouti, which is a baked tart, thicker and heavier than flan, with fruit (black cherries) It was way too hot, didn't have enough fruit, and ice cream would be a far better choice than the amorphous blob of whipped cream it was served with. I should have skipped dessert. It was so boring. As for ambience: it's a crowded, noisy place but in a pleasing way. Very small, and I had reserved one of the 6 seats at the bar (I was dining solo). It's whimsically decorated, like with the grape-covered nude statue holding a candle. There was attractive artwork on the walls, some of which I believe was for sale. I did detect smoky odors coming from the kitchen that other reviewers have noted but I consider that a positive thing, not a negative. So come here if you wish. Check it out and form your own opinion. As for me, I wasn't sufficiently impressed and wouldn't return.

We came back the following night for a REAL treat... First of all, Tony was our server. What an absolute sweetheart!! He had nothing but fantastic recommendations for us. He was definitely not your standard "waiter". He spoke to us like we were regulars, which we appreciated, considering we were from Massachusetts. We ordered three of his suggestions: wings, fish and chips and the spicy margarita. Outside of what was recommended we also got the beer cheese and GIANT soft pretzel, bangers and mash and the creme brûlée. First off- this was my first time trying beer cheese, so I was beyond excited. I hate pretzels, however. Guess what?? They were BOTH SOOO GOOD!! The pretzel was the size of my giant head and was so soft & salty. It really paired well with the creamy beer cheese. I'd come back just for this appetizer every time. The wings too, actually! I was a little hesitant because I read the word "dill" on the menu but they really tasted more like Buffalo wings with a note of dill at the very end. I think I might be in love.... On to the main event! The Smithwick's beer battered fish and chips... WOW. It was a little different than I'm used to (which was a great thing in this case). The batter was thick and crispy (I'm used to thinner) and the haddock was super moist. Very fresh! I order this meal wherever I go and this is definitely in my top 3 (out of probably 50 others). I was hoping I could switch out the chips for fries because, well, I've never had traditional chips before! I must say I was pleasantly impressed though! They were the BEST and completed the dish perfectly. My fiancé had the bangers and mashed. He said it was good and very traditional. I did not indulge, so I can't relay that in my review. Last, we ended the meal with a MUST try....the creme brûlée. LEAVE ROOM FOR THIS DESSERT! The top was a hard sugar coating while the rest was truly a creamy dream. I might have to stop back in JUST for this before I head back home! 5 stars. Definitely. 6 stars for service!!

Being from New England, I'd seen the Sea Dog brand for years, but didn't know they had a brewery/restaurant. Service was a bit slow, but our server was awesome. Very friendly and had good banter. I ordered the haddock sandwich, blackened (haddock is a must in Maine) and my partner ordered the hummus wrap. I enjoyed the sandwich; nothing too special but really hit the spot. Plus the fries were perfect. My partner thought the wrap was hearty and filling. It's not the best spot for vegetarians, but there are decent options. I don't drink beer but was happy that they had my favorite regional cider available: Downeast. My partner really enjoyed his local beer. Worth a stop while you're looking for a meal with a view!

They have signs around their store about happy hour 3-6pm everyday. However, there's one beer and three cocktails available for happy hour prices and it's only at the bar so no happy hour prices when outside the bar or when sitting outside patio area with a view of the harbor. Ordered the Al pastor tacos as a snack. They were decent with a slight kick of heat that crept up on you. Worth the price. Cute place but I can see why the place gets poor reviews. Attitude is EVERYTHING.
