What a fantastic location... and what an unbelievable disappointment. We were excited to try the new Slow County BBQ location in Coligny Plaza, but it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences we've had on Hilton Head. The service was well below average. The employees looked like they didn't want to be there, and there wasn't a welcoming atmosphere from the moment we walked in. To make matters worse, you order at the counter, bus your own table, and are still prompted to leave a tip before you've received any food or service. The food was even worse. Our kids wouldn't even touch the mac and cheese after one bite. It tasted like it was made almost entirely with processed cheese and was a complete miss. Then came the "Garbage Can Nachos." The name couldn't be more fitting. They probably should have stayed in the garbage can. It was essentially a bucket full of chips with a tiny amount of cold pulled pork and processed cheese on top. I'd say it was about 90% chips and 10% toppings. To make it even more ridiculous, the food runner slammed the bucket onto the plate multiple times to crush the chips so the toppings wouldn't fall off. Watching someone intentionally pulverize your food before serving it was almost comical. For a BBQ restaurant, the menu was incredibly underwhelming. The quality simply wasn't there, and neither was the beer selection, with only four beers on tap. Everything about the experience felt like it was designed to cater to one-time tourists rather than earn repeat customers. Coligny Plaza deserves restaurants that people are excited to come back to. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of them. Between the poor service, disappointing food, limited beer selection, and awkward counter-service model with a tip prompt, we left wishing we had chosen literally anywhere else. Went BBQ because of the Larry I was with. A Wednesday at 5:00 and they were "out of ribs" . Really???? I had the "garbage can nachos." A novelty being delivered in a tin can but mediocre flavorless pulled pork and a gross amount of melted Velveta cheese.....ugh! Is this the way nachos are prepared in the South???? My family went here for lunch while on vacation in Hilton Head. You order your food at the counter, get a table number, and it gets delivered to you. If you order a sandwich, sides are for an additional cost and come in regular and large size. Platters come with two sides. Sides include mac 'n cheese, fries, coleslaw, beans, and potato salad. My husband and I both got the pulled pork platter. The pork was a little dry, but with the addition of BBQ sauce it tasted great. My daughters got the pickle-brined fried chicken sandwich. The ribs were so smothered in rub that we had to scrape it off with a knife just to make them edible. The "French fries" were very thin and crunchy like the old potato sticks I used to get for snacks when I was a kid. They were the poorest excuse for French fries I have ever seen. The Mac & cheese was supermarket quality, about Kraft mac & cheese quality. The potato salad had green hue that was quite off putting. Overall we were appalled. Forrest fire is the best bbq I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Potato salad, egg salad, baked beans, Mac and cheese and the spicy coleslaw are all the best I've ever had the pleasure of having on my plate. Forrest fire doesn't shy away from flavor and accommodating to the older crowd that is afraid of a little kick and any spice. I've contemplated being a vegetarian, but the brisket at this place might make that impossible. This place is something special. The only issue I see is that there's a dozen options for sides and you only get two per meal, but you wanna try them all! read more

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Forrest Fire. The pulled pork was moist and flavorful. The mac and cheese was creamy and not over cooked. Employees were very friendly. The collard greens seemed old they were black, macroni and cheese was starchy and seemed that it was made from a box. The ribs were fatty.

Went there on a free voucher from timeshare, went a hour after they opened and food was horrible! Bbq chicken was dry and tasted old, tasted like it was from the day before and they warmed it up in or on something they just cleaned! Tasted like pine sol... sorry but it's the truth! I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Even my husband, a self-proclaimed bbq expert, was impressed. I really want to give a special shout out to the young guy working the line. He was obviously an expert in the menu and explained everything and recommended how we should order based on what we thought we wanted. Also gave us samples of anything we asked about. After us I watched him give the same guidance to other customers and help "the new guy" who was working with him. This has to be the worst place I've ever run into in the 40 years we've been coming to Hilton Head Island and it pains me to write this review as the people that work here seem very nice and someone invested a lot of money into it. I have to guess that they have no idea how to cook or manage a restaurant. The ribs were meaty but dry as the bone inside them; I did eat them as the bbq sauce made them more palatable. The baked beans looked horrible, I couldn't bring myself to even try them. The shells and cheese was actually good. Wifee had brisket sloppy Joe sandwich and thought it was horrible, she brought it back and got the pulled pork which was decent. The brisket was hard as rocks and dry, the server said they used the burnt ends, so they were way over cooked or sat for a long long time in the warmer or both, and very dry. Her po-ta-toe salad as they call it was horrible, they were not cooked enough, ya got to wonder if they ever tasted them themselves, they were not eaten. It was pleasant sitting outside. The blackboard said opened 7-23-23, they will be closing soon if they don't get some turnaround restauranteur to give them a lot of help, soon. Forget about this place. read more

We decided to give Forrest Fire BBQ a try this evening. The food is served cafeteria style, which is fine. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. The ribs had a flour-like coating on them that was pasty, and the barbeque sauce did not help. The collard greens were unusually sweet - The baked beans also had a taste that was not identifiable.
