Tin Roof, I have been here a few times. The menu take some thought. Pork abounds, brisket, chicken tacos called fajitas but all good. The place is rough around the edges with stark industrial inside and long wood picnic tables outside. Not looking super clean, but no major violations seen. A little more effort and this could be fixed. I had two fajita style chicken tacos. Wanted something healthier for lunch than a burger. Good choice. we weren't sure what the taco standards are compared to California & Nevada. The flavors were just ok.. we got the chicken, shrimp and fried chicken tacos. It wouldn't say it was worth it and the service wasn't really confident in their menu (or he was new) but we asked about different items and they would just say I'm not sure. I complained about rude employees at this place about a year ago and haven't been back since, but I thought maybe they had been retrained and I felt like a taco so I went in again yesterday at about 7 PM. But sure enough, the guy taking our order had about as much friendliness as a bull with a bad case of hemorrhoids. White, tallish, mushroom haircut. I don't know why this place can't be as friendly as all the other businesses in town. No hello, can I take your order, thank you, or any of the other standard phrases a decent restaurant uses. I actually looked at him in silence after placing my order for five seconds or so, wondering if he was going to say thank you. He finally said "there you go". Just weird. Here on a Friday noon. Not packed. About 15 customers with 4 employees. Food is just OK. Nothing to write home about. I had a fish taco - fried, brisket, taco, picadillo taco, and a fajita taco. With the exception of the very delicious brisket, they all tasted as if they were cooked the day before. Nothing was fresh. Not even the chips or salsa. Don't expect fresh food when you get here. Service is OK. Ambience is cafeteria style, dirty, and very broken tables and chairs, and overall generally not clean. I'm only trying this place again because my cousin really likes it. read more

First time in. Decent selection of tacos and other bites. They have some local beers on tap as well. I had the chicken fajita tacos and the main squeeze had tin roof tacos. They were good, nothing to write home to mama about. The green sauce is okay, the habanero not that hot. Plenty of tables and benches to sit at. Free refills on the sodas. When we got the tacos, I thought, "Oh good, only one corn tortilla so less carbs." Well, three of them cracked apart, so we finished using forks. There were several tables that needed cleaning. I was immediately treated with disrespect for no reason at all and felt like I was not welcomed there by the younger kids that work there. Mind you there was still plenty of time before closing. Tacos are good but definitely not worth the long line we were in. I felt it lacked a bit of taste and would benefit from having a bit more meat in the taco. Oh and our chips and cheese...our chips were basically crumbs of what use to be chips but I will say the chips and cheese were super yummy! A must. Popped in for lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. Tried a grilled fish taco and a brisket taco with chips and salsa and a side of black beans. As I was placing my order, I noticed that the floor was slippery in a few spots and although ii was wearing athletic shoes, I had to be careful not to slip. Looking around, the dining room was more than half full and there were about 6-7 employees behind the food counter but only one taking orders and disappearing into the back. When we got the food there wasn't very much inside each taco. The grilled fish was ok. The brisket was tough and not good at all. The black beans were yummy. Went there again as some coworkers love that tacos and service. We've been going there for the last 2 years because of the closeness to our training. When we first went, they gave us first responders/LE discount, as we were in our LE training uniform, was great for the next 3-4 times so we just gave great tips. Oh man were we disappointed after trying our food. The menu has lots of tasty items to choose from but the star of the meal was the guac and chips. I tried the bbq brisket and the regular brisket and I almost gagged eating the brisket taco. Flavor was not good at all. I've been wanting to try Tin Roof for a couple of years now and I finally had the chance today. What a disappointment! I had two of the fish tacos ... but the tortillas were flaccid & cold, as was the fish (which was supposed to be fried.) Downhill trajectory since their opening (six weeks ago) in service level, food quality and cleanliness seems a function of many of the young staff pretending they are at a summer break party instead of at a paid job. As big a fan as I am of the Texas transplant sisters who opened Tin Roof in Boise and this one as their second location, I say with all respect that these are management's problems to fix. Have they bit off more than is chewable with this second location in the Treasure Valley? That I don't know. But I intuit they would solve the majority of this location's problems, at guest service level and food quality level, by putting a grown up, which doesn't mean age specific but in behavior, in-house manager in charge. I do know that across the fast food and fast-casual food restaurant industry there are problems with service staff and line kitchen staff performance these days. It is not unique to this Tin Roof location. In the current low unemployment economy it is very often the least skilled with the least interest in staying employed who end up in service staff customer facing jobs in fast or fast-casual food jobs. Hiring and training and reinforcing and firing when necessary and rehiring have always been challenges for management in any eatery in this segment. Even more challenging now. But it can be done. If the sisters who own Tin Roof want to see how it is done right, they might take a look at the performance by staffs at Madre Boutique Taqueria in Boise or Taziki Mediterranean Grill in Eagle as two examples where involved and present management has assembled teams that do really good work for service and also preparing consistent quality, delicious food served in well maintained spaces. None of that is happening at this Tin Roof location now. read more

My wife and I stopped in last Monday between 7-8 pm. Not many customers. Staff seemed to be all young people, as in no management-looking staff. We ordered six tacos. Crew appears to be in desperate need of an on-site manager. Only two of about six employees wore hats at foodservice station and none had hair nets. Stainless at cooktop is not polished, though I'm hear for early lunch. Easy to see areas of the floor in the kitchen/register area are littered with garbage and food. Food has potential to be good if proteins were fresh. Ordered 5 different ala carte tacos, with help selecting by cashier. Mahi taco and pulled pork taco were bone dry. Fried chicken taco was scorched earth dry. Also surprised that open cases of beer candidates/bottles are stacked on the floor at the front door where they're readily available to the high school lunch kids.
