Had the worst service experience at this place. Came with the wife and we both ordered food and a couple of beers; they brought the beers and we kept waiting over 40 minutes for the food. The waiter even came by a couple of times asking if everything was ok? We inquired about our food at that point. Another 15 minutes went by and I stood up to ask about the food, turns out they didn't put the order first, but reassured me it was already coming out. 5 more minutes go by and they only bring one plate out; when I asked about the other one the waiter asked me what had I ordered? Just to put the order. At that point I just paid for the beers and left. Giving a star just because I cannot leave a review with none. Nice setting and service, but the cuisine wasn't anything special, and I wouldn't suggest it to someone seeking a satisfying meal. However, this is acceptable if all you want is a great meal at a restaurant or anything. On a Saturday, I came in for lunch, and despite the crowd, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. I am definitely a fan of this place. Located in a plaza, I was at first a little hesitant to eat here. However, I am glad that I did. Ordered an empanada, los saltados, and the fried pork slice sandwich. Also ordered their passionfruit drink and their chicha murada (purple corn drink). Empanada - Usually not a fan, but really enjoyed it. The empanada beef filling is nice and it also has part of a boiled egg inside (first time I haveseen this). Definitely worth getting. 2. Los Saltados ($12.99) - This was a great dish (basically beef tips with rice and french fries and a beef gravy). Highly recommend their hot and green sauce (do not recall the names). 3. Fried Pork Slice Sandwich (Pan con Chicharron) - $5.99. This sandwich was big and worth it. It has sweet potato slices and pickled onions, which gave it a great taste. 4. PassionFruit drink - I recommend getting this by the jar instead of the glass. 5. Purple Corn Drink - If you are a fan of cinammon, then get this drink. Very easy to order to go. They have lunch specials that are just like dinner entrees but obviously cheaper. However the portions are not large and they skimp on their meat for lunch specials. A las! Another hidden little gem discovered. This place is extremely casual but quaint. It's large enough to handle a nice size lunch crowd. Came here for lunch with 2 co-workers. Among the 3 of us, we shared 2 empanadas - 1 chicken & 1 beef and that alone filled us up! Although we enjoyed both, the beef empanada is so savory with a hint of sweetness from the crust, we wished we had ordered 2 of the beef and forgo the chicken. We each had the pork sandwich which came with fries. The fried pork was tender, fried sweet potatoes gives it some sweetness, and the pickled veggies bring it all together. Portions are plentiful. We had to cut our sandwiches in half so we would be able to handle it! We highly recommend this sandwich. We also shared a side of plantains were were cooked perfectly with a crispy exterior. We were soooooooo full by the end of the meal. I'm still trying to get over my food coma at this very moment. Too bad the waitress forgot one of the sandwiches so we had to wait for them to make the 3rd one before we could all eat. We went for lunch on a weekday and the place was almost empty, which is odd because the food is really good. I asked when are they busy and the waiter/owner (?) said weekends are busy. They've been open for 3 years so hopefully they are over the hump and will be successful. We started with a pork tamal for my mom and a chicken tamal for me. They were excellent--great flavor, not dry--and the pickled red onion was the perfect accompaniment. Very tasty. I also tried a chicken empanada based on recommendations from Yelpers. Really good, liked it a lot. I asked for some sauce and was served some green "mild" sauce and the red "hot" sauce that came with a warning. So I tried the green and it would melt through plastic so I did not even touch the red. But I liked it a lot and if used in moderation is actually quite tasty. We also split the lomo saltado with chicken. Wow, that was tasty--thanks for the tip Yelpers! The brown sauce is delicious. The fresh vegies were great. We could not finish it all and I left not overstuffed or bloated. So it was a perfect lunch. Overall, the flavors and quality of food were great. We moved to DFW about two years ago and have been struggling to find some of the same-quality cuisines we had back in NY. Well, one of those struggles was with Peruvian food....until now. Thanks to a friend who recommended Tineo, a relaxed BYOB Peruvian restaurant that offers all of the traditional dishes that abuelita (grandma) used to make. Papas ala huancaina - on the money! Lomo saltado, took me back to abuelita's kitchen. Arroz chaufa, very generous portion of heavenly goodness. But, even better than the food are all of the sweets that they have available to eat there or take home. The alfajores had just the right touch of anise, the flan was deliciously addictive. Oh, and an Inka Kola. Do yourself a favor and give Tineo a try. read more

The menu seems to have gotten a bit bigger since I last visited, so that's a good thing. I still have yet to try an entree, but I may be more willing to now that I retried the empanadas here, even though I took it to go. This time, the empanadas had thinner dough. And tasted even better. I don't know if it's because I reheated it in foil in the oven, or if they improved on the recipe. Honestly, I wish I remembered how they normally warm up the empanadas for those eating it on the premises. Apparently, the addition of the mystery fourth star is in a detail that I can't pinpoint quite yet. My Peruvian friend who accompanied me liked the amassed ground beef empanadas more than the cubed chicken empanadas even though she liked both. Her opinion is that she felt the chicken should have been shredded so that it would be better seasoned with the dressing that accompanies it. I thought it tasted good because it consisted of dark meat anyways, so it had more flavor than just plain white meat. Both empanadas, beef and chicken, had hard-boiled egg inside, which was nice. The fact that there was egg made her wonder if this place also sells pastel de acelga, or something like a pascualina, which is like a spinach quiche topped with a flakey crust (although I think in Peru they use chard instead of spinach, not sure). This pastel has Italian roots - and the saying is that it has become more popular in South America than in Italy so some people consider it to be more South American rather than Italian. Either way, when I browsed their website, I saw that they do make it. It is unfortunately that I did not know they had it when I visited the store. They do need to better advertise their offerings in-store. We also tried the milhojas con manjar blanco which is a thin napoleon-like pastry that is filled with dulce de leche / cajeta / caramel instead of cream. When I also warmed this up in the oven, it was actually a delight to eat. I didn't like this pastry when it is cold, so be sure to get it heated. I'll be back again for the empanadas, and will also try to nab a piece of the pastel de acelga. And maybe also to finally try out their entrees. My only other wish for this place is for them to continue to expand their seafood offerings and also to expand their coffee selection. A great cup of cappuccino with empanadas or pastel is enough for me to set a good mood for the rest of the day. read more

I love lomo saltado but here they skimped out on the meat and the meat wasn't tender. So I tried pollo saltado the next visit and the same thing - not a lot of chicken but at least it was more edible. I love the sauce and how it soaks in the rice and fries. I came here with a friend on a Monday night. I wanted to try out Peruvian food. So I though this would be a great place to try out. You can tell it's pretty authentic. I tried a drink and some appetizers & an entree Drinks: Maracuchicha (half passion fruit and half purple corn mixed drink) I actually liked this drink. I thought it was very earthy. I thought it was good. Appetizers: Started with chicken & beef empanadas. My friend & I split them so we can tasted both. Chicken was dried, beef had powdered sugar on top of it. I enjoyed the chicken more. Dipped in their two hot sauces, it was delicious! Pork & chicken tamals - we split them again. I wasn't a fan. There wasn't much meat, but it was very thick with a lot of masa. It was hard to finish them Last appetizer was Ceviche de Pescado - this came out very late. It was interesting. There was raw tilapia in a orange sauce which was a bit on the sour side. There was fried corn (definitely not corn nuts) and soft corns with a yam in the plate. It was interesting, we didn't finish it. My friend and I weren't too much fans of it Entree: I ordered the Aji de Gallina. Because it looked delicious on the slide show and the ingredients seems like something I can enjoyed. It's definitely not my favorite thing to eat. I took a few bites and couldn't. My friend didn't like it as well. It has a interesting taste to it. My friend ordered a beef sandwich, and he also didn't like it as much. I think maybe it's because this was the first Peruvian restaurant we tried out and expected something different. It was definitely an experience. I haven't had Peruvian food since my last(2010) visit to the East Coast. Today I stumbled upon this little hidden gem after work. Their menu and dishes are completely authentic. I ordered plantains and Arroz Chaufa(chicken) and boyyy let me tell you. It was out of bonds!!! My waiter brought out two different garnishing sauces for heat, but it wasn't needed. There was so much flavor in the rice that anything added would have ruined it. I've only found one other place in Texas, where I will order their plantains. (Elaine's Jamacian Kitchen). Now I have two awesome places, but I must confess this place prepares them better. Nicely fried with a hint of caramelization and crisp with every bite. The favorites were the sautéed noodles with onions, tomatoes, and chicken as well as the Peruvian chicken fried rice. They were very savory and delicious. I'm half Peruvian and spent a good amount of time eating Peruvian food - it's definitely my treat of choice and I know It pretty well. I came to Tineo specifically for the lomo and found it to be pretty so so - The meat was overly chewy and there was not nearly enough flavor in the meat (though I did find the marinated tomatoes and onion to have flavor). I also see in hindsight some older reviews were given aji verde with it but my order was not- I would specifically ask for it next time. read more

Tineo has really set the bar for the other Peruvian restaurants out there. My close friend's mother recommended this joint and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! This hidden gem has enhanced my palate for the better :) I would strongly recommend to order the classic most popular dish (Lomo Saltada) with the beef and vegetables over fries that comes with a side of white rice! This place is amazingly good. I came two weeks ago for a ceviche and, to my surprise, had the best ceviche in Dallas. The portion was huge for the $14 price, which in Texas is not always the case. Today, I ordered a Seco de Res and the flavor, tenderness, and savor reminded me of a casual but good lunch at my grand parents in Lima back in the 90's. So it's been a while since I reviewed a spot. I'll tell you though, it's not too often I run into a place that inspires writing about it, but then again, it must be done. Gotta let all the Yelpers know what's worth the drive or the money... Dallas is my hometown, and while it is still growing, and you can find almost any kind of food here, I have yet to be profoundly impressed with the Peruvian options I have had here, thus far. I traveled to Peru, and my husband is from there, so I know my expectations will never be met 100% considering I have had the real deal. Tineo, while this place has some good food, there were a few things that were lacking. I rate this place, because its the closest I have gotten to the real thing. To start things off, we ordered one of my favorite, yet simple peasant dishes, Salchipapas as our appetizer. I remember running into little hole-in-the-walls to order this dish every now and again, when I was searching for a quick and easy filling meal. Basically, this is a pile of fries topped with hot dogs that have been sliced and seared on the grill. In Peru, you usually have the condiments of choice at the table; mayo, ketchup, ahi (Peruvian hot sauce), and mustard. Here, well they just top it with all that stuff, so just make sure you indicate what you want on it. I like it all, so I had it just they way it is off the menu. Our entrees were Lomo Saltado, and the Seco de Res. The Lomo Saltado is filet minon, red onions, bell peppers, aji (Peruvian Chili) tossed in soy sauce and served over french fries, and white rice. It is a classic, traditional dish. I always enjoy that dish, and well it is definitely one of the better ones I have had here. The Seco de Res is a slowly roasted beef roast in a stew, served with potatoes, and white rice. He actually got beans with this one, which was not something I see often. Legumes are eaten in Peru, but like Mexicans eat rice/beans with most dishes; Peruvians usually have potatoes and rice. Both dishes were really tasty, and closer to the real deal. I only knocked off this place a couple of stars for the lack of decor, and well if I am spending $15 a plate, I would expect better ambience. The desserts were also not up to par, they were displayed in a case and to be frank, it just looked a little old. The food is great, so I hope that as this place continues to grow, that they invest in some of vibrant colors, and decor that you would see in Peru. The place kinda reminds me of those little Mexican joints that are just starting and work with what they have. Also, if you have desserts on display, I expect to be compelled to try them, but I simply wasn't. While my rating is of 3 stars don't let it stop you from trying this place out. Tried to come here and try the food. As soon as we sat down the waiter came over and asked us if we had a Groupon (because I guess we are asian and they don't get asian customers normally? Doubtful that they ask that to every customer that walks in) so the manager told our waiter to tell us outright that we cannot use our Groupon before we even got a chance to look at the menu. They said we can use it tomorrow or another weekend. The Groupon had no such restriction. We asked again why, and they had no reasoning other than just trying to deny us because they felt like it. I ordered a chicharrones sandwich, with an empanada and cancha. The empanada was not as good as Empamundo, but it was still solid. I could tell they made them fresh, but the flavor of the meat did not pop like I wish it would. The texture was not as flaky and crispy as I wanted, but its still worth checking out. Ive never had cancha before, but it basically tasted like popcorn. The sandwich had a good cut of pork. The sweet potato and satueed onions were a good, as well as the bread they bake in house.
