Tried this place with my office buddies. The staff was friendly, as this was out first time experience with Peruvian food she helped us out with the menu. Their juices were good, we got to try out some samples :) The chicken was perfectly cooked and had lot of flavors to it. fries were done right not tasted good with the food. Steak was a little rubbery but taste was little different -in a good way :) couple of plantains fries were not ripe enough to provide the sweetness flavour(lil disappointed) Their fried rice was little different, tasted more like thai fried rice. but it tasted great and with lot of quantity. I discovered this place by accident when we stopped in after a failed lunch experience nearby. We just got some of their sweet pastries and a beef empanada. The staff here is so friendly and explained what everything was, and let us try their specialty juices (which were really good). I especially enjoyed their aniseed cookie with dulce de leche, it was unlike anything I've had before. Tried to come here and try the food. As soon as we sat down the waiter came over and asked us if we had a Groupon (because I guess we are asian and they don't get asian customers normally? Doubtful that they ask that to every customer that walks in) so the manager told our waiter to tell us outright that we cannot use our Groupon before we even got a chance to look at the menu. They said we can use it tomorrow or another weekend. The Groupon had no such restriction. We asked again why, and they had no reasoning other than just trying to deny us because they felt like it. We have been looking for a good Peruvian restaurant in the falls area, and stumbled on Tineo. The food was ok, the service is ok as well. Nothing impressive. I ordered the Pollo Saltado, and it had a lot of fries and very little chicken. It did taste good though. My wife ordered the ceviche, and she liked it. It was just fish ceviche, they did not have a mixed seafood ceviche. We are used to getting the bread and green sauce free in other Peruvian restaurants, just like chips and salsa in Mexican restaurants. In Tineo we had to order it. The food was not cooked to arrive at the same time to our table. One of my sons received his plate when we were almost done eating ours. Their sodas are not refillable, you order by the can at $2 a can. All in all it was an OK experience, but I do feel that this place can do a lot better with little changes. read more

My dude and I went here for a quick dinner before heading to a concert in Downtown Dallas. I was craving Peruvian and this restaurant was conveniently by the 75 freeway. It was quite empty on a late Sunday afternoon with only us and another family dining in. At any Peruvian restaurant, I always get the Lomo Saltado. I could try other dishes (which I have) but I do think the Lomo Saltado is such an amazing dish that definitely has both an latin and Asian influence. Beef, onions, tomatoes, french fries, and stir-fried in a savory sauce served with a side of rice? Delicious. Their version was very good and I liked that they gave me my own bottle of green aji sauce (think of an herby, spicy, creamy sauce) that compliments the dish very well. My husband wanted to get a different dish. He was debating between two and he went with our waiter's suggestion, which was a seafood stew. When the plate came out, the dish didn't look very appetizing, as the color was very pale yellow. The ingredients of the seafood stew was not very impressive either, with most of the stew being made of potatoes and imitation crab. I would not recommend this. When we went up to the counter, I saw that they served empanadas of different varieties but they were sold out of most being that it was the end of the day. They also offered sweets like alfajores, which can be described as a shortbread like cookie sandwich with caramel in the middle, dusted with powdered sugar. Perhaps I will get that next time I visit here. The location is large and spacious. It is very casual and neat. The staff are friendly and nice as well. Overall I had a good experience and I would definitely come back again for the Lomo Saltado, or maybe my second favorite Peruvian dish with is the tallarin verde (pesto pasta). read more

Richardson has always been a place to sample lesser known cuisines of the world and Tineo is no exception. Peruvian food has recently seen a uptick in popularity, coinciding with the fast it's becoming a more well known tourist spot and The Country has been featured a lot in travel and food shows. That being said Peruvian food may not be for everyone. I enjoy it personally having eaten at a Peruvian friends house numerous times, who has since moved. Even if you aren't a huge fan of Peruvian food, this place for the appetizers alone is worth it. Their empanadas and tamales are great, as is their ceviche and pollipapa. They usually have a empanada special when I go so you can order a lot and take em home. For dinner i usually get the Lamb stew which is in a wine sauce similar to burgundy stew, and their delicious rotisserie chicken. Normally I like Cau Cau, which is beef stomach cooked in yellow pepper sauce. But unfortunately this particular restaurants caucau is quite bland and under seasoned. Besides that the place is overall good with nice music and although the restaurant isn't the most visually appealing it is decorated with art and motifs from Peru which makes it nicer. Overall a good restaurant and worth a try if you want something new. read more

A boo-boo from Peru... Found this place while trolling the Internet and was inspired by the menu items to give it a closer look. Stopped by a few hours later at their strip mall location in a working-class section of Richardson and first impressions were not good. Saw food scraps all over the floor and tables that were in disarray. Mmm kay...well, this is not necessarily a deal-breaker, as I've still managed to find tasty meals in even dirtier dives. Ordered the Arroz Chaufa and the Tallerin Saltado a la Criolla thinking I was about to relive one of the many mouth-watering and savory dishes I had experienced while tramping around in Peru in the 80's and 90's.....EPIC FAIL! First off, the order took close to 40 minutes to complete and while we were waiting, we noticed the staff (of which there are more than enough) still hadn't bothered cleaning up the messes all over the floor. When the food finally did arrive, it looked plain and drab, mostly just rice and noodles with very little vegetables and meat. Both entrees tasted bland and without any of the slightly spicy, zangy kick that characterizes authentic Peruvian cuisine. Got about halfway thru and then called it a day, and not because we were full. Left very disappointed and felt ripped off, especially after paying $13/plate for something that should go for around 8 bucks AND given the unappealing atmosphere of the joint. Sadly, this is NOT the place you will have an authentic Peruvian dining experience. Yeah, they have Inca Kola and chicha morada, but I can get that anywhere. The menu really excited us but the execution was just terrible. We've had better, similar items at just about about any Chinese restaurant in the Metroplex and at prices that are about half what Tineo charges. Some of the most authentic Peruvian food I've had since visiting Peru. I've been here multiple times and it's consistently been tasty. I always opt to get the lomo saltado with juice or an Inca cola. I've also come with people who ordered the rice dish (arroz chauffeured) and liked it. It's a huge portion. My friend ordered the Aji de Gallina. It was good, but not my favorite as I don't like things with heavy sauce. Make sure to get the red and green sauces with our meal. The prices are super affordable. More of a 3.5 rating, but I also think it's worth supporting a small local business that has its hidden gems. I will say a lot of the entree items are made with similar ingredients (rice, fries, beef), or several entrees use the same sauce, with the only difference being the protein. Still, if you're willing to be a little adventurous, I would definitely recommend the purple corn drink. It's not overly sweet, and I tasted hints of cinnamon. (If you like horchata, I think you'd like this!) I thought the Lomo Saltado was aiite, but I really enjoyed the Seco de Cabrito. You may be skeptical of the goat, but it was actually REALLY tender. In terms of taste, I'm honestly couldn't tell the difference between that and beef. But the real star of my meal? The $2 side order of plantains. AMAZING. No joke, if you like Salvadorian food and have been to Gloria's, you may know that a side of plantains is literally $7 for 4 pieces. Here, you get almost twice as much for a quarter of the price!! I was over the moon. Even plantains at fast food Latino restaurants are more expensive. I couldn't get over it. The seafood ceviche was aiite. The Crema Volteada (aka flan) was solid. I noticed that the main dishes are pretty pricey, but the drinks/sides/desserts are very affordable and honestly worth coming back for. (I can't get over the plantains...) I'd come back and split an entree if I'm not super hungry, but def order sides of plantains, sweet potato fries, and yuca. The restaurant decor is very minimal and casual, but clean. So we tried this place on a whim, and were pleasantly surprised! We had the chicharrones sandwich and stew, and they were both delicious!! The meat was so tender and flavorful. We also tried the beef empanada (which was topped with powder sugar!), and a squeeze of lime! Oddly delicious too! And of course, we tried the little cookie dessert, which was not overly sweet, but delicate and tasty....the owner even gave us a second one (one that my husband wanted to try) since we couldn't decide/our first time:). With so many Peruvian restaurants popping all over the Dfw area it's really hard to pick one that's authentic. With that being said if you've never had Peruvian food that you are missing out. First rule of the restaurant looks fancy, avoid it, it's probably overpriced and not good. This little place located in a random shopping center is he real deal. Great Peruvian restaurants such as Aji de Gallina and Causa which is a delicious potato dish. The drinks are authentic as well, Inca Kola, Chicha Morada, and other juice drinks. I wandered into this restaurant the other day looking for something different. I had no idea what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff took the time to explain the menu and their favorite dishes. They also introduced me to Peruvian empanadas. I ordered a take out lunch special,a "typical" beef dish which was lots of food and reasonable priced. I ordered a beef empanada as well, and it was delicious. Oh, my heart. I was in Peru in the Summer of 2013 for six weeks so I learned to acquire the taste of this food. Six weeks of white rice for at least two meals and you learn to love it. In week five, I was craving a Big Mac but when I finally reached America again, I was kind of sad I wasn't eating it all the time. Fast forward three years and I'm begging my new friends to take me to have Peruvian. Please please please it'll be a great experience. This place is in a small plaza. When we entered the building, there actually wasn't anywhere to sit and most of the patrons seemed to be Peruvian. Or at least from South America. The waiter and waitress were busy serving tables. When a group of six finally stood up to leave, we swooped in and stole all their seats (and bussed their table, haha). The waiter came to us about fifteen minutes later to ask for our drink orders. I was so happy to look at the menu and have an idea of what things were: 1) Chicha Morada - a deep purple drink, made from corn. It's one of the sweetest drinks I have ever had, like you're chugging high fructose corn syrup. For the adventurous drinker. 2) Maracuya - one of the best drinks I have ever had. It's sweet, but not overbearingly so. Described as a "passion fruit" drink. It's the kind of drink you want to have on your porch on a late summer's eve. So refreshing. As far as food goes, Ceviche is a rice/raw fish dish and is quite popular in Peru. I don't know how it is here. My friends ordered the Arroz Chaufa which is chicken with egg and so much rice you won't know what to do. You can eat about fifty bites of this dish and not make a dent. You'll have leftovers for days. I myself ordered lomo saltado. It was pretty good, I remember it being more of a noodle-dish when I was abroad which seemed to be lacking here. That's not to say it wasn't delicious, it was just surprising. I think I'd always go for lomo... I'm a sucker for stir frys. My waiter was kind enough to substitute french fries for yucca. Yucca is the bomb. Yucca is a root that comes from the tropical regions of South America. It kind of tastes like potatoes, but I think it's a lot better. Definitely get it. I'm so happy my craving was satisfied and this certainly did the trick. Also, buy the Sublime chocolate. I couldn't get enough of that stuff during my travels. So delicious. I went here with my girlfriend Sunday late afternoon. We personally loved the environment, from the smell to the family-oriented people, it just felt welcoming and simple. The menu had a good variety, though maybe a little pricey. My girlfriend got the ceviche and I went with the lomo saltado. Well I think the ceviche was good, but after my girlfriend ate it, she had stomach issues and said she's sure it was the food. She loved the taste of it, just not the aftereffect. The fish in the ceviche was raw, which isn't a big deal except it was tilapia and my girlfriend told me she doesn't think tilapia was meant to be served raw. Idk, my meal was pretty good but some bites of the beef were really mushy for some reason. Besides that, it was also much saltier than I anticipated, though still delicious for the most part. Saw this place on yelp and went to try for a late lunch. I ordered a chicken empanadas and ceviche and I could not stop eating the ceviche. It had different taste but the best. That kicking lime flavor kinda made it perfect to that strong spice and heat. The hard corn was crispy and just right. I ended up taking home some empanadas and the cookie with caramel ( it was so delicious) and the hard corn for my husband to snack on. The tamal and fried yucca root was super yum!! I wasn't impressed with the entree we ordered. It was a bit heavy on the sauce. The service wasn't great, we had to ask for refills multiple times and they ran out of tea. I will give it another try because they did have a fair sized menu and they empanadas looked amazing. Appetizer was papas huancaina, 5.99, approximately one potato boiled and sliced with huancaina sauce over it. Everyone makes this sauce differently; this one was nothing to brag about.Tasted basically like mustard and mayonnaise. My husband had the lomo saltado. Basically stirfried beef with peppers and tomatoes, but get this; served on top of the french fries! Salty Rice on the side ?!?! I love hole in the wall restaurants... when they're good. Sad to say, but the food just isnt that good! Place looks nice, and the staff friendly and prompt. I am married to a peruvian, and have had some of the best peru has to offer. This just doesnt measure up. Papa a la huncaina was passable but needs a bit more spice. The cevice not marinaded enough and not enough citrus + spice. Fake crab does not belong in it! Tamales not flavorful and dry. Only a tiny bit of chicken in the middle. Empanadas were pretty good, but they are hard to mess up. I'm not really a fan but I would encourage you to give this place a chance. I came across this restaurant on yelp and decided to give this place a chance. This place really seems authentic. I can't say that with confidence because I haven't tried that much Peruvian food, but the guy who runs it seems legit and very friendly. I tried their chicken empanada and the 1/4chicken with fries. It was pretty good. The empanda was moist and the chicken was seasoned well. The waiter (I think he was the owner) was very friendly and gave me samples of their Peruvian fruit drinks. It felt a little pushed to order and I ended up ordering one of their drinks. Forgot what it was called but it was yellow. And I also got a little alfajores for free for dessert. It was sweet and pasty. I wasn't a fan of it. I think this restaurant did a good job showing a glimpse of Peru. Came here on a Sunday hoping to use a Groupon that my friend bought. However, right after we sat down I felt discriminated and targeted because of our ethnicity (we were the only Asians in the restaurant at the time). The first question the server asked us was whether we were going to use a Groupon and proceeded to inform us that the owner will not allow its use today. My friend read the fine print on the Groupon and NO WHERE does it state that usage is not allowed on a Sunday (or any weekend day for that matter). This business verbally refused to honor their services by falsely advertising on Groupon. This is utmost disreputable and malicious customer service and racial profiling. read more
