Ball park Village.... When you first came into our lives you were oh so shiny and new... Now that shine has just gotten a little dull, making you ready for a new updated review.. Not that I don't enjoy you from time to time, but I just don't feel the same. SO the good... I love that they have cheap concerts here. I have seen 4 or 5 country concerts here for like 15 bucks! What a deal! And I also got to see Taking Back Sunday, and that was only like 12 dollars. The concerts and events are great. I totally love coming to watch Cardinal and Blues games here when it's playoff time. YES... it's crowded... but its MUCH cheaper than going to the actual game, and you still get the good time of it. I enjoy being downtown when our teams are in the playoffs. The building itself is pretty impressive... the concept of BPV is great... But the bad... Well.... simply put, it's crowded, overpriced, and a little crazy. Am I sounding a little old when I say I would rather go to a hole in the wall local bar over drinking and riding the mechanical bull at PBR? Well, it's true folks. Not that I don't like to go out and have a little fun, but I just feel like, this is a spot if you're in the mood to get a little crazy... If not, you might just be a little annoyed because it's going to be loud music, packed, and everyone is a little rowdy. It totally has had an impact for the small local business owners. Great place to watch sports games and drink a few cold ones. The roof actually opens during cool weather and makes for an even better atmosphere. Walk in off the street, find an open table and you're good to go. There are tv's everywhere you look and all things sports are being played. We didn't eat here but saw several tables who did and by the looks of things you get a big bang for your buck. Definitely huge portions for cheap. Also, most important, if you have a ticket to the Cardinals game you can walk in and get a liquor drink and take it back into the stadium with you. Prices are way cheaper than the few bars inside the stadium and the atmosphere is great. This place is made up of probably 15 bars and restaurants under one huge roof. Large and expansive, meant to entice you to come early and spend freely before crossing the street and head into the venue. Various dining options - standard, mass market food faire - did enjoy the wings at the Budweiser Brew house - flavorful and meaty. Prices are on the gouge you side - like all places near pro-sport stadiums, so don't expect happy hour pricing. Location is set up to provide entertainment after events as well - seemed very lively and geared more toward a younger crowd. Its awesome for its environment, but wow is it overpriced! Went here on a Thursday evening with coworkers and took in the games on the plentiful TVs. The fact it is air conditioned helps tremendously. Once inside, though, you are subject to 6 dollar beers and 9 dollar onion rings. And the table service makes me miss Applebees' service. Stopped in before an evening Cardinals game. Had no problem getting a table. The sushi was fantastic. We sat at a table that was by the sushi bar so we could see the chefs making the sushi rolls. That was very interesting. The tiger roll and the combination sashimi; California roll are my favorites. Staff was very friendly and courteous even though they were busy. From the hummus and veggies, to the beef brisket to the butter cake, there was something for everyone. The bartenders and other employees were very friendly and attentive. The place was very nice. This is the most unprofessional, uncaring, and unorganized business in town. We had a reservation for a large party today and when we arrived, our tables were taken by other people. We were told we would have to just find other tables and we had to spread out all over the place. Then, when we were at a table with a reserved sign, we were told we need to move for the people who reserved it. We told them why we were there and they we'd be happy to move to the tables we reserved. They told us we just had to move somewhere else and did nothing to make anyone else move. They also had no interest in serving us. We had to go get food from one of the places there and bring it back to our table. Don't ever reserve a table there, there's a good chance you won't get it if they're busy at all. read more

Ball Park Village or to the locals (BPV) is a great place and I have been here on a ton of occasions. I used to go so often they did not card me and they actually never charged me a cover fee since I was there so often. It is a great place to go out and if you have friends in town, you can take them here and brag that their city does not have something like this. They do have a dress code policy but it is not strictly enforced. You can go here to watch a ball games, hockey, or just for dinner and drinks. No matter what brings you here I am sure you will have fun and leave happy Some of my favorites inside are Cardinal Nation and Hawl At the Moon. Both offer great music, dancing and great staff members and friendly people. The food here is amazing and you can usually get a giant platter to share or come hungry. I love during baseball season they have pretty much a giant pep rally inside before games. They used to do $1 off beers on Mondays during the winter, not sure if they still do but I was always there for that. It was great. I highly recommend this place. I adore that we a baseball team who loves us as much as we love them. To gain a communal space like Ballpark Village (BPV) that displays a mutual appreciation on both sides is precious. The BPV complex is great for what it has provided the city. You have live music, a wide-open great room with TVs, bars and restaurant options. Proud bonus: BPV created JOBS for our citizens. It's a nice building, yes. However, I wasn't "blown" away by it. It's cool for what it is. There's times when it's overly crowded (for which staff can't handle), the food isn't THAT spectacular & pricey, and a lot of the staff aren't that friendly. I mean, I take the good with the bad. It's not so bad that I wouldn't patronize again and again. BPV was built for us, so in all, I do appreciate it. If I'm not mistaken, the developers of BPV are responsible for the Kansas Power & Light District in Downtown KC?? Please correct me if I'm wrong... But listen: The P&LD beats BPV, imo. Especially aesthetic-wise. I see SOME similarities of P&LD in BPV; I get what they tried to do, but Downtown KC's open-air complex holds the crown, hands down. I wouldn't be me if I weren't honest! Downtown Stl is annoying cluttered already, so they did their best, I guess. Still, if you're visiting this fair city or you're simply a local, take advantage of what BPV has to offer. This sports bar complex is a great concept, but the execution could use a little bit of work. It's a great alternative to the stadium if you need a break in between or want to leave before a game is finished. The first time we came here, we went right after a Cards game - boy was everywhere crowded! But, it was definitely worth it to see all the interesting there places. Definitely loved Howl at the Moon - my favorite by far because of the piano/karaoke. A few things I did not like - the parking is atrocious! It's so hard to find an empty spot and it's so easy to get into accidents in any second. However, it is located close to the metro station - probably beats the hassle of trying to get into town and leave in time. The other thing - drinks and food are a bit pricey for what you're getting. It was small and only had chicken fingers and meatballs. They ran out within five minutes. They only restocked once. We came to see the Blues play, and it was a great environment during the game. Blues and Cards fans...get here! This is an absolutely great spot to pregame. I haven't been here before a cards game, but friends tell me it gets jam-packed. I came for a blues game, and it was tons of fun. The beer and food is solid, the staff is friendly as can be, and they have lots of pre-game entertainment, including trivia for free beer and Bud "ambassadors" (aka beautiful ladies) giving out swag. They also have a free shuttle going to the Scottrade center, which worked out perfectly for us. The parking was plentiful and they validate for 3hrs, so you only pay $12 for the night (depending what time you get there and if the game goes double overtime or something). Some may argue that it is overpriced, but seeing as how this is a pregame venue, I wasn't shocked or disgruntled by it. The prices are no worse than you'd pay at a nice bar in the city. I'll go back the next time I'm in St. Louis for a game. read more

Have been a few times, but tonight stood out in particular closing out my bill when the server (Emily) brought me a tall beer glass with an accompanying happy and congratulatory tone. Puzzled, I asked what this was for and she replied, "It's because you ordered the Golden Light." Made no sense until I looked at the bill and noticed I was charged for a 'Pilsner Premium' and subsequent refills. Nice try, taking that out of your generous tip you WERE going to receive, thanks. Drinks are already pricey, but food prices are average. Food can be hit or miss based on what you order...consistency and/or preparation method reveals that if you don't consume the food soon after it arrives, it may taste very bad. May try selections from the surrounding venues inside BPV versus the main center area to see if they are better. Many people being served, so the focus likely isn't on the food, but cashing in on drinks. Overall, great venue, friendly people, nice staff--just look your server in the eye and say, "Don't slip in a glass I didn't ask you for," when ordering your first drink based on what it is. Also, the DJ or sound system controllers seem to fall asleep at the wheel ALOT after commercial breaks (they are not allowed to show commercials and have to fill them in with alternate videos), unless they are directed to randomly block out sports commentary with blaring rock n roll while you sit there after commercial breaks guessing what is being said about your favorite sports team you came to watch. They do catch on eventually, but you have to make up what was said before...happened a lot tonight too, no good during playoffs times. read more

Upon arrival I thought, "why doesn't the city I currently live in have something similar?" Ballpark village is the ultimate game day experience during baseball and football season. Connected to Busch Stadium you'll find this popular hangout packed with fans, getting down with some tasty game day bites. The layout of the space is awesome. High tables were set up across the back, with circular booths housed in the middle and front areas. (Those had the feel of true a VIP). The main attraction in this space is the ginormous tv screen that shows the days big games. On a whim we decided to stay for an entire football game. At first we were not planning on ordering food but we kept seeing other tables orders coming out and looking oh-so-delicious. So, you guessed it, we decided to indulge. We ordered the nachos and added chicken. I'm always a little weary of nachos because they just don't seem like the best bang for your buck, BUT they were tasty and feed two grown men and myself. No complaints. My only complaints come with the semi-slow service and the confusion once a shift change happened. Our new server (who we didn't realize was our server until we finally asked someone) didn't seem to know we were in her section, walked past multiple times without a word and literally never came to get our bill. Making us wait about 40 minutes longer than we planned to stay. I also did not It appreciate being charged $7.00 for a non-alcoholic iced tea because it came with a souvenir cup...you can keep the cup....throw my tea in a normal glass. I'd at least like the option of being able to say I don't want it. But overall, great experience. I'm sure it's a madhouse during baseball season, but am looking forward to another visit. Wait... I can't give NO stars?! This place is the pits. I kept feeling like I was in an airport food court. Or at a mall. Or at some weird airport-mall wherein all of the flights were cancelled and the shops were closed--but the doors were locked--so that every single human in the vicinity only had these very options for food and beverage and although people were dancing and feeling hopeful now, I could tell that the scene could only get uglier and more desperate as the hours passed (or the Cards' runs didn't accrue). Except that the doors were open and all of these humans were there of their own will--willingly waiting and elbowing for drinks and sustenance. Choosing to be there! What?! It irritates me that the whole thing is so fabricated and that the local establishments who have long "supported" the ballpark are now suffering due to this mega-food court taking their clientele. It would have been really great if there was a Paddy O's corner, etc within Ballpark Village, no? But then, what's with people for choosing to hang at this monstrosity rather than at an establishment with more local history and character. But besides all that, the quality is terrible. I ordered a salad stated to have chicken, artichokes, tomato, feta, cashews, and greens. When my salad was delivered I couldn't even believe it was the one on the menu. And then I looked at both of my parents' cobb salads and they looked the same as mine! All plates were filled with glossy iceberg lettuce and not much else. If there were 2 oz of chicken in my salad, I'm being generous. I took a photo because I was so shocked. And also because I couldn't get the waitress' attention in a timely manner and, dammit, I needed to eat because there was a game to watch. When she finally did come over (to collect our plates), I started to tell her that the salad wasn't what it seemed from the menu description and she basically cut me off and told me she would comp it. I mean that she cut me off in a nice way because she obviously had heard this complaint before or perhaps had wondered herself about the "false advertising" on the menu after having to carry out iceberg yuck after iceberg yuck and serve it to people hoping for something with some protein and vegetables. I have now been to Ballpark Village twice and each time I have walked away pretty impressed. At the time of my review (March 31, 2014) the venue has been open less than a week, so although it is early, I still wanted to mention the encouraging signs I have seen/heard about. First and foremost, the venue is beautiful, both inside and out. One cannot help but be in awe of how well the structure and the outside have come together in this rather large package. The second you pull up to the parking lot you are met with beautiful signs that immediately grab you. Walking inside gives you the same feeling. The structure feels warm and inviting. The atmosphere feels more party than family right now, but only time will tell what type of clientele will frequent the venue. I will say I was impressed by how many middle-aged and up people were at the venue. This surprised me as there is not another place in the downtown area (sans sporting events) where the crowd is not decidedly young (i.e. 35 or under). I was encouraged by this as I hope this brings back some of that crowd to the downtown area. I believe having that crowd back will do wonders for downtown and the establishments surrounding the BPV. I have yet to try to food, but the drinks were stellar, and the entertainment at PBR and Howl at the Moon (please see their individual reviews) was outstanding. I only hope that BPV will continue to live up to and meet my expectations. read more

Had a terrible experience tonight at the Randy Houser concert. The concert was great. The service was terrible. Our waitress was awful. I get being new but I have never had such terrible service. Our table didn't even get the right food or drinks. When we told her she said "oh I'll take care of it," "it's on me." Except it wasn't. It was on us to pay for. I will not be visiting anytime soon. Apparently where all the 20-somethings go. We went to the Crown Room for a private party. The main problem: the music. Talked to the DJ who informed me they give him a hard drive full of the music they allow him to play. I made what I thought was a middle of the road request: Drake, and he let me know they don't play any hip hop or rap, and sure enough the only 'rap' I heard all night was Macklemore. Uh,the music was just really bad. They played Back in Black, Hakuna Matata, and Hello by Adele, for instance... on a Saturday night. Hilarously enough, I saw several people high five the DJ and say good job about the music, so apparently it works for their demo. I really wanted to order one of the Goblets, but they were out of that. The drinks were good, nice strong pours.Plenty of security, talked to one of the security guys, and apparently the crowd is infamous for bro-ing out and fights broke out in the past. It was 10:30 when we got there, and already a significant number of DAF kids barely able to stand. So: Pros: great people watching. Also, the GIANT TV in the main open area of BPV was amazing! I recently visited Ballpark Village for the St. Louis Blues Ice Breaker event. Basically it was a pep rally that introduced a new player, and the new jerseys. The place was packed when we arrived 30 minutes before the start of the event. We headed upstairs and somehow got a spot next to the bar. But we couldn't see anything... and it was like a mosh pit... constantly being bumped with elbows from those trying to find a spot. Also, it was hot inside. My shirt was soaked. With all the people entering at once, they couldn't maintain the AC. There were 2 bartenders for the whole upstairs. They were working hard but sweating balls... I felt bad for them. They were severly understaffed. Once the players took the stage, the chaos calmed down. Again, we couldn't see the stage, but we did have a view of the TV that was airing what was going on. All in all, I had a good time. It's hard to fault them for a large crowd... especially when the event was free. I just think they have some kinks to work out when dealing with these specialty events. Bottom line, if you come for an event, arrive early, and sit downstairs. read more

I've never really had a bad time at Ballpark Village but that doesn't mean it's a great place to go. That just means my friends and I have been really drunk every time we've gone. Everything is overpriced. I had to take up a second job stripping on the East side to help pay for a bucket of beers. I cooked meth with some guy named Walt in order to afford a round of shots. I sold one of my kidneys for a whiskey and coke. I'm not entirely sure what the allure of Ballpark Village is. Why do we go here? Is it all the flashy ribbon boards that have almost certainly caused a few seizures? Is it the gigantic TV screen that enhances every blemish on John Lackey's face?(Sorry John but God blessed you with 6'5" height and a 93 MPH fastball...you can't have it all). Is it the restaurants that offer Applebee's style cuisine at an improper fraction of the price? This is really a 2 star establishment but it's a 5 on appearances. BPV is beautifully built and quite attractive from any viewpoint, especially inside Busch Stadium. It's a good addition to downtown. Of course I might be comparing it to previous tenants of the space on which BPV sits: 1: Lake DeWitt (a huge hole filled with rainwater) 2: A parking lot 3: A softball field. By the way, why build a softball field downtown if it's going to look worse than what I played tee ball on at an elementary school back when I was 5? I mean the fences were made of chicken wire and I think there was half of an old bath tub in center field. I would have recommended a tetanus shot to go along with your postgame juice box if you played on that field. The best part of BPV is that it caters to people of all ages. It really caters more to people who have held a steady job for awhile and can afford $6-8 drinks but as long as you've got enough in the bank account, you could be 21 or 51 and have a good time. It's really just a mall of bars and there's at least one bar for everyone. FYI: There's a dry erase board by the stage in Howl at the Moon. You can pay money to write whatever you want on it. If you write "Go Cubs Go" on it, my friends and I will erase it. We don't care if it gets us kicked out again. This is St. Louis, America! read more
