Happened upon this little gem after seeing the article in NYT Cooking, and so glad I did. It's tucked into a fun little dive bar nook, one half bar, one half pinball arcade, and hidden in the back is a door that holds a delicious spot for unique, full of flavor Korean street food. I was blown away by the special, omma's stew. Portion size was much more filling than I had originally expected when served. I took home about 1/3. Service was great, both at the bar and the window. Tucked away in the corner of The Silver Ballroom, the Tiny Chef steals the spotlight from the multitude of classic and new pinball games. I tried the Korean pork belly tacos with dragon sauce. It has a lot of back heat but isn't so overwhelming that you can't taste the rest of the food. The corn tortillas are perfectly charred. I got the soy slaw (I'm not a fan of kimchi). I had to stop and savor my tacos, instead of just eating them. They are the perfect balance of sweet, salty and spicy, and crunchy and soft. Dare to say the best tacos I've ever had. This place is a hidden gem in the Bevo area and I will be going back. The Nachos and bibimbap bowl sounds fantastic! read more

I am definitely overdue with this review. A couple of weeks ago I Tiny Chef did a special Korean seafood, crab legs and shrimp boil. It was flat out delicious. I have been to this restaurant several times, and his other reviewer have noted they work out of a pinball themed dive bar. The food has never failed to be delicious and impressive. But this boil was delicious. Plentiful in crab legs and so much shrimp. The potatoes and cheesy corn were awesome. But the two things that really did it for this dish was the gochujang butter sauce, and the bok choy, that was mixed in. The wilted bok choy in the sauce might've been the best thing I ate and everything was delicious!!! I wish there was more of the vegetable Mixtown. But this meal was so good and I enjoyed it so much! Tiny Chef is fire, and so is my mouth! I had dinner here a few times and am obsessed with her nuclear and carbo noodles (specials). Not only is her food amazing but she seems like a pretty amazing human too. If you follow her on Instagram she shares much of her story and it could be turned into a tv show! By following her insta you also get updates about her specials and hours. I felt a little lost trying to figure out when I could get my fav dishes until I found that- so def worth it. Everything Tiny Chef and her team put out is pure magic and the bar that her magical kitchen is in is great at serving up drinks to put out the delicious fire in your mouth. She was recently featured on a celebrity chef food network show so get in now while you can! I can't speak for Party Bear Pizza but Tiny Chef has absolutely amazing food. Went by there Sunday evening and ordered a tostada with avocado and fried egg on top and it was absolutely delicious. I hope this place opens up for lunches read more

This was my second foray into The Silver ballroom and the first time there realized Tiny Chef cooked there. I've followed her on instagram for some time but never put 2and2 together. Loved The Silver Ballroom! Anyway we went the second time just for her food. She had posted on her Instagram that it was a special with udon noodles and black bean sauce, Jjajangmyeon. It was smashing! We added the bulgogi steak! We also had the bibimbap dish which we added chicken and egg. Again delicious! Got a cold beer from the bar and dinner was devine. You order from the little cubbie they have and they give you a number. We went on a Monday eve which was nice because so many places are closed on Monday and the Silver Ballroom had free pinball so that's a plus. We sat at a table and shortly thereafter got our food. its a bit noisy with music but its a bar so it was expected. We went early so as not to miss her food because it sells out. Follow Tiny Chef on instagram for her menu each week then go get some, you wont be disappointed. Have a drink at the bar and play some pinball. it's a win win evening in my book! read more

From a small window tucked into a corner of an unassuming dive bar in south city comes some of the absolute best food to be found for miles and miles, hands down. Party Bear Pizzas, which I first had when they were in development and available frozen, by word of mouth, blow other local joints out of the water. The crust is crispy and thin, but sturdy. The sauce is good enough to eat on its own with a spoon, hearty and flavorful without being too sweet or overpowering. Fresh mozzarella is plentiful and gooey, and do yourselves a favor and order a pizza with the ham on it. Seriously. I don't like ham on pizza, but I love THIS ham on THIS pizza. As for Tiny Chef's creations, they are a labor of love, and it shows. The house-made kimchi and char siu pork belly on Korean nachos will knock your socks off. The pork belly is crispy, sticky, tender, and salty-sweet. I sort of want a to-go bag to just, like, shovel into my face throughout the day. Keep an eye on the specials that pop up each weekend, too. The tteokbokki is so good, it'll make you cry. Those pillowy little rice dumplings are like a hug in a bowl. I got mine with the bulgogi beef, cheese, and a fried egg with a perfectly runny yolk. My husband had his the same, but swapped out the beef for the char siu pork. Both were so good, we split them. (Don't worry if you're not a carnivore; it can also be vegan or vegetarian!) I have yet to get my hands on the Korean hummus or one of the incredible-looking soups offered on occasion, but i hope to soon. Hurry up. Go support this hidden gem. I was so surprised to find this gem tucked away inside of the Silver Ballroom! I had the special of the day (Chicken Soup for the Seoul) and ordered the Beef Bulgogi Tacos out of pure gluttony (because the portions were certainly more than enough!). It's rare to come across fusion food as thoughtful and well executed as this. The chefs really nailed how to complement Korean spices and marinated meats with Mexican dishes and even American style soups and sandwiches. It's a minor detail, but even the side dish of Tiny Chef Rice was somehow delicious and I wanted to go back for even more. Having all of the pinball machines in the back is perfect for a fun and casual dinner out with friends as well. On top of that, the service was very quick - about ten minutes after I ordered each dish. Can't wait to bring more friends here! read more

Tiny Chef is the best Korean food to ever grace your taste buds. I tell literally everyone. She puts her whole heart into every dish and it shows. I crave it at least once a week. The food here is excellent - it truly encapsulates the flavors of Korean street food! We had multiple different kinds of bibimbap - all were very good and had amazing flavors. The tacos were also good - the tortillas were a little burnt but didn't hurt the flavor much. The dragon sauce is VERY spicy (we don't have much heat tolerance tho) so beware if you're weak like me lol. A great little place that everyone should try! read more

Bibimbap was good but the place is in a dive bar. I didn't really know what the Silver Ballroom was before I went but now I do. If you've not been there, don't be fooled by the term 'ballroom'. It's a bar with pinball machines and on the night I was there I was going to play some pinball while I waited for my food. Change machine didn't work so I couldn't do that. I could see the appeal if I lived close by but otherwise it probably wouldn't be a place I would be quick to visit again. read more

I'll be the 1st to admit, most of my yelp reviews tend toward negative experiences... But this place, I've never experienced such a delightfully confused palate. I've wanted to try this for a while, but always manage to show up after they close. Tonight was the night. I had a pork belly bowl, and the only way to describe it- Sweet, sour, spicy, crispy, crunchy, savory, hot, cold...Every bite another subtle texture or flavor profile. Who the hell manages to get all this into 1 entree??? Nobody- except apparently Tiny Chef. I like to eat and tend to be nitpicky but I've never ever experienced anything remotely close to this. Kudos to the amount of R&D, execution and effort put into these recipes. I can't wait to try everything else. If you've never eaten here, GO NOW, or at least the next time they are open. One of my favorite places in Saint Louis! The Bibimbap is unbelievable and as an added bonus, I swear it cures hangovers. The Chicken Soup for the Seoul is occasionally on special and when I'm sick and need comfort food, that's all I can think about.
