It's fairly obvious that this joint isn't interested in offering quality service to anyone they don't deem to be a regular, much less a local. I've been here a handful of times. One of the bartenders was legit, but it ends there. Waitstaff was rude and aloof after we waited for nearly twenty minutes to get a drink at our table. We came here after drinking a few strong beers at Oddsides... we needed to slow the pace down with some lighter beer and play some keno. The place was packed, but we found a table. Great atmosphere, felt right at home here. The Mexican food looked awesome, but we had just eaten, so we had a few beers. I guess I am not getting all the rudeness comments. Have been there 3 times this summer, have had a different waitress each time and all have been very friendly and accommodating. I have tried wet burritos on the other side of the state for years looking for a comparable one. Have never found one. The last time I was here was over 20 years ago and the "wet ones" are still fantastic. Took the whole family including grandkids this summer and they all enjoyed the burritos, enchiladas, and tacos, no complaints. The drinks were strong and the beer cold and very reasonable. The next time I am in the area camping, a trip to the Tip will be on the agenda. Mention this place at work and everyone seems to know about it. And as for a crappy place, it has been packed everytime we have gone there. Go figure. read more

Dirty lines, jalapeno poppers are abysmal, and bad burritos. Even if you order a dry one you get one covered in cheese. Burrito sauce looks and tastes like pizza sauce or ketchup. Back in the day it was a true dive bar and I miss the way it was (Please take a moment of silence for the way they were..... ) They have since attempted to clean up, at least in appearance. Our night was going well, we were going out for my friends 21st birthday party on the Saturday night for coast guard. We were having a good time at the bar, and my friend decided to get a drink which costs $5, he gave him a $10 kept waiting at the bar and never got his change back, I was right behind him when he asked to bartender for his change back - it was busy so it was understandable to forget, in which the bartender rudely called him a liar and gave him the wrong change back, when he politely asked for all the change, the bartender threw him the rest and caused his drink to spill. To make matters worse, he had the bouncer kick my friend out of the bar, which ruined his birthday - a moment that we wanted all of our friends that we never see to hang out and get together for a fun night. Also, two fights broke out in the bar in a matter of 30 minutes and a guy was passed out bleeding on the sidewalk by the entrance. Three police cars and an ambulance were sitting by the entrance for an hour too. read more

Found a great dive in the heart of Grand Haven, it was a great place to grab a couple of beers while checking out the water front. We returned for a late night atmosphere and it was pretty different with a younger crowd than mid-day. The staff was very professional and checked every I.D. And I even witnessed a highly intoxicated patron get removed from the bar without any incident. We got a quick late night carry out and was pretty good. There nachos are just called "Chips-N-Cheese ". Very cool little spot. read more

Took a group there for a girls weekend gathering. Went there excited to enjoy the beginning of our weekend. Restaurant was busy on Friday night. Expected to wait.....service was TERRIBLE. Maybe this is just a place that certain locals love? I loved the atmosphere more before the smoking ban went into effect. I'm not a smoker, but now when you try to go there on Saturday nights, the atmosphere has completely changed, a totally different type of crowd. That said, I still love the staff. This place is a total local bar. There was a drunk guy who kept falling on tables and fell down multiple times and nobody did anything about it. I will say the drinks were strong and the older man bartender was busting his butt filling the drinks. There were multiple bouncers standing around as well but mostly just laughing and talking to the drink mans friends. The locals were NOT friendly at all and seemed annoyed that people were in there that they didn't know. This place over serves for sure, we did not feel very comfortable being in there, lots of "local drama" and fights were starting. They are home of the wet one but by looking at the place I don't know if I'd trust eating there? Sometimes these hidden dive places have the best food but we didn't take that chance. This is hands-down the single worst Mexican restaurant on the entire continent of North America. The food is basically Wal-Mart tortillas loaded with unseasoned meat and an almost comical amount of rubbery cheddar cheese that is probably left over from Taco Night at the local prison. I would seriously rather eat frozen waste from the bottom of a Mexican outhouse than allow these burritos anywhere near my mouth again. Some on Yelp have described the atmosphere as "dive". But dive bars are usually dark and authentically decorated. As soon as you walk through the door of this place you're blinded light from the flat screens and neon Bud Light signs. It's not a dive bar, it's a sports bar decorated by someone with awful taste in everything. "The Tip"; as the locals call it, is essentially an alcoholics' bar. Apparently it offers really good deals on beer. They have to. Catering to future liver transplant candidates is the only hope they have because only people who have burnt off their taste buds with decades of whisky shots, Pall-Malls and Pabst Blue Ribbon can possibly stomach this epically disgusting food. read more

I will rate this place a 3.....only because I can appreciate places that haven't changed much over time.....when most other places in the area have kept up to catering to tourists instead of the locals. I've lived in the area for 13 years....i don't go to Tip often....guess because the food is greasy, bar food. And the mexican is not my type of mexican.....i like real food....not gordon food service food. After a few drinks, the food gets better:) Come here for some local action, for decent service and a place to grab a beer away from the tourists. Great place for a beer! Lots of locals but those are the best places, right? The food, not so good. At our table of 4 we tried: potato jackets (which I learned are potato skins covered with cheese, meat and sour cream), tacos, chicken strips, chicken chili (ew!), enchiladas, and beer.
