Great place with the best burrito in Grand Haven, great atmosphere with less teeth per customer, and great TVs for the big games. The green spicy sauce is so acidic that it not only stains the cheese once in contact, it gives me an ulcer eating through my stomach wall, but it is worth it!!! There are rumors that the green sauce actually melted the cheese off the burrito - I think it has the acidity of battery acid. They need faster, more attentive waitresses. I mean, the food is good enough to just face dive into, but sometimes I like silverware delivered with my food. Furthermore, the waitresses seem to not care if I go on and on sobbing about my personal problems... and I NEVER win the KENO! I think it's rigged! At least it is one block away from Washington Street so you avoid most of those pretentious yuppie tourists. read more

The "Tip" definitely more "tavern" than "restaurant". My local relations refer to this as a "Townie Bar". That's probably an offensive term to some, but oh well. We stumbled over here after closing down the Kirby on a Thursday night in June. I guess it was a little early in the summer yet, and not yet the weekend, but the Kirby was dead that night. However the Tip was packed - with locals, not the summer tourists who flock to town all summer. And smoky. And complete with what I assume were the local pool sharks. Hookups were definitely happening. And I got hit on....weird 'cause look every bit of my over-30, married, mother-of-two-ness, and I don't think I've been hit on in a bar since my mid-20s! It's just that kind of place. And ditto on the burritos - we've actually ordered them as takeout before, and although we didn't have any this time, they are legendary. read more

This place is a local watering hole. It looks exactly the same as it did 20 years ago. I used to prank phone call this place when I was a kid and had the bartenders wanting to kick my butt. Now I love going here when ever I'm home. It's known for it's wet burrito. It clams its the, "World Famous Wet Burrito." Why can't they just say, "Grand Haven's Finest?" I highly doubt its the world's famous unless you never left GH. The inner workings for this tasty loaded burrito is a pound of seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato wrapped in a extra large burrito shell with red sauce on top and a pound of cheese. Yes a pound of cheese. This pace puts a pound of cheese on everything. They even have cheese balls! I guess in the midwest cheese makes everything taste better? I would suggest to have a few beers or drinks before and during while concurring this burrito. Oh yeah, you can spot the locals because they set at the bar and drink Busch and Natural light beer. Our waitress, Summer, was awesome! Other waitress kept trying to take our plates before we were even done eating and was super rude. They charge extra for a side of Pace Salsa (that's what we are pretty sure it was), the chicken tacos were awful tasting chicken with a bit it lettuce and cold cheese covering the entire plate - nothing on the side at all, no Pace, no taco sauce. The mini wet burrito was buried in Pace sauce and was just okay. The best part was the draft beer. read more

I'm sorry, but if you have to cover it in sauce at least make sure the sauce tastes good. And please learn how to cook your beans all the way through, there shouldn't be a crunchy surprise. I thought I had snagged a peanut in my burrito, only to be disappointed once I realized it was an uncooked bean. OK what is it. The best dive bar you can go to in Grand Haven. Good Mexican food, but even better margaritas. You better have a designated driver if you go here. Saturday night of Coast Guard so it was reasonably busy (understandable). Went to have a good time and hangout with my friends. Ordered a gin and sprite at the bar ($5). I gave the bartender a $10 bill and was expecting a five ones back so I could leave a dollar tip. The bartender gave me my drink but never my change. I waited at the bar for five minutes and watched him serve other people so I figured he forgot. It's coast guard weekend so I understand that. A bartender with a long pony tail served the guy next to me and I told him that the other bartender never gave me my change back. Pony tail bartender let the other one know. The bartender who served me my drink went up to me and said "I placed your $5 on the bar." Which I replied "Sir, I don't believe you did. I saw you serve other people after me and I think you just forgot." Then he said "Are you calling me a liar?" "Nope, not calling you a liar. Just want my money back" He went back to the register and took out some ones and threw them at me. ... he only gave me $4. So i asked him for my full change back ($1) and he rudely says "oh so you're not going to tip me?" And I said "You've been rude to me during all of this?". He gets me my $1 back then crushes my drink out my hand which spills all over the bar he was serving drinks at and calls a bouncer to kick me out. I've never been treated so poorly at an establishment before. He was hostile to me during the whole process and wouldn't admit that he made a mistake. The bouncer who told me I needed to leave was nice and apologized to me but also said that he has to listen to the bartenders. Also, while I was there two fights broke out and the ambulance came. Not surprised of the extra hostility. Wouldn't recommend this place at anytime of day to anyone. Hope the bartender gets a talking to from the manager on how to properly treat customers. read more

The wait wasn't that long even though the restaurant was very busy. I went to the bar to get a pitcher of beer and a margarita. The male bartender was not very friendly with me. He acted as though I was an inconvenience to him. I wanted to leave but stayed due to my family wanting to eat at the Tip of Few. So we stayed. The night turned better after having a good waitress named Jen. She was friendly, happy and did not treat me or my family like an inconvenience. The food was great. We will probably be back. If you are looking for real authentic Mexican food don't come here haha but the food is actually very good. The enchilada sauce (which is on almost everything) is amazing and makes any dish of theirs. Tip a few is a local joint with "booz-a-ritas" or margaritas with just booze that will knock your socks off they are so good. The burrito is a must and you have to get it wet. Tip is the perfect hole in the walk that we always look for!!!!! The staff is great and the drinks are cheap. Don't plan on driving after two drinks because they are strong and will sneak up on you :) My go to drink is a Jose Margarita and my husband's is New Holland whiskey on the rocks. We usually go there for the drink and end up getting a little food. The mexican is better than most mexican in Michigan. It loaded with cheese so how could you go wrong. read more

I have not been to the Tip in a while, took my family there for a Tuesday night dinner (1/22/2019). Place was not busy. The food was ok. My Chimmi was honestly really good. However, our waitress was so rude from the start of our dinner to the end. She practically bit my head off when I asked a question. She argued about a comment that was made. She never brought the sour cream that was requested. Never refilled waters. There was a terrific Gal that was helping that night, that did bring us more drinks and refilled glasses, but not our extremely rude waitress. To be frank, our waitress should be fired, it was that bad. My family will never be back. read more

I'm certainly not a "regular". I've been there maybe a dozen times in the past 8 years. Every time without exception, waitresses were friendly, polite, and efficient. We've always been able to place our order quickly, and the food has always come quickly. We go in the early afternoon and it's never been crowded then, so maybe that helps. I always have the lunch burrito and it never fails to be delicious. People I'm with have ordered other things, and they've always been happy with their food. I look forward to going again. read more

Where to begin? I really couldn't understand why Tip a Few had only 3 stars on yelp until I started reading the reviews. I am not from around Grand Haven and I am here on vacation. We went to Tip a Few because we got in late and most of the other bars were closed in the area at 11pm. When we got there Casey was at the door and he was very polite and helpful. We found out right away by looking at it that it was a quaint, local, dive bar. When I go on vacation these are my favorite bars to find. We immediately got help from Mike the bartender, who for having a cast on one arm did a hell of a job pouring drinks and waiting on customers. Then we met Mandy the server who was running around making sure everyone had a drink and a good time. Between her and Mike we never had an empty glass or a dull moment. Mandy made sure my friend had water all night as well. The locals were very nice to us and we made some new friends while we were there. Some of the reviews I read were very harsh and very wrong, especially complaints on the price of drinks. If I lived around here it would definitely be a regular place for me. Try it out before you read some of the other reviews and don't get the chance. We had an amazing night because of this bar when our other options were to just go back to the hotel. read more

It's always interesting to read reviews on places. The bottom line is it IS a local dive - where everyone is welcome, even families. It definitely is NOT a place for fine dining. It is NOT a place for "authentic" Mexican food. It certainly ISN'T smoky anymore (Michigan is finally a non-smoking state). However, if you're looking for a fun place to have a few drinks, kick back and relax, and enjoy a great wet burrito or enchiladas, by all means visit the Tip. Still my favorite place in Grand Haven but they need to lighten up on this ridiculous policy of not splitting the bill. The new reality is that groups of people like to eat together and pay for themselves. Most people today also pay with credit cards so it's ridiculous to expect the customer to do the math or to have one person in the party foot the bill and collect later. I've been meaning to get here for two years. Brother Nate's recommendation. Lunch rush on a Tuesday. Sat at bar. First note: service was immediate, responsive, and friendly. Busy as heck, but I did not notice. Stephanie was very good. Clearly she didn't have much time to chit chat - but she made sure to breeze by frequently. Second note: food was good. Not spectacular, but very decent. Tried the famous wet burrito. Needs more tomatoes and more wet sauce. Sour cream and salsa should not be extra for the price.
