Definitely a yoko loko thing, which is a bit amazing considering the location...and confirmed the way the bartenders, especially the day shift gal (Jessica I believe I heard someone say, absolutely rude), treats a newbie in comparison to the yoko loko!! The Tip Top is a fun, comfortable neighborhood joint. Good food and mixed drinks. Lots of locals. I enjoyed stopping in a couple times when I was visiting in the neighborhood. However, the ordering process is awkward - you order and pay for your drink as you come in and wait for the bartender to make it before you find a spot to sit down. One evening when it was super-busy, the bartender was doing the work of about three people. A man in a black hoody that said "Security" told me he was the owner when he checked my ID when I came in. After watching the bartender work her fingers to the bone, I was tempted to tell him to put his coffee cup down and help out - maybe bus some tables or take food orders. read more

Dive Bar, Local Watering Hole, Hole in Wall.... whatever you call it then this place is that. No frills.... just a full bar, various games to play, TVs, nice staff, and plenty of seating. This place seems to normally cater to the 40+ crowd and that's not a bad thing at all, but I just felt out of place. This place is fine.... it's just not for me... yet! Really good experience here tonight. We're told by a friend about the 50 cent tacos on Wednesday's, so thought we'd check it out. Found out they also have happy hour until 7, with discounts on well drinks and drafts. We got 6 of the tacos (which were REALLY good!) a beer for my husband and a cranberry vodka for me all for less than $10! The bar is a nice little place, kind of crowded, maybe because of the taco special, or maybe it always is.. All in all, good food, good atmosphere... We'll be back again! read more

Worth coming back to. During the Cruisin' the Gut, there were only bartenders inside and they were ON IT! I was impressed. They could have been cranky because it was non-stop but they were smiling and just going through the bartop. It was really nice to see and made for a pleasant visit. Came here, had some drinks and some food which granted were pretty alright but I used the bathroom and was rudely interrupted by repeated banging on the door by the bartender accompanied by another female guest who then threatened to follow me home and assault because I was "using the wrong rest room." The bartender then encouraged me to leave and allowed the women to continue following me and attacking me with discriminatory comments. read more

Awesome divey local bar. Great food deals throughout the week, including 50-cent tacos on Wednesday. Bartenders are friendly, and there is a nice selection of draft beers, including several local craft brews. The breakfast is good and inexpensive; I think it is my favorite breakfast joint in town since beloved Mama's Place was closed down when the building was sold out from under them. Smoking patio outside (one of 5 in downtown Vancouver), and with a covered section for rainy days. It is kind of a dive bar, so don't expect it to be chic, and the speed of the service is proportional to how busy they are, but it's a good place with friendly customers and staff, and I recommend it. read more

If I could give a minus score I would. Sitting in the Tip Top Tavern in downtown Vancouver. I live in the neighborhood and walked here with an out of town friend. I ordered a mixed drink that was VERY watered down, orders another in hopes it was better. I took one sip of it and had the waiter take it back, I told him the drink were the most watered down I have had in a long time and had him bring me a beer. His only explanation was that they measure them. We also spent $80 in pull tabs and would have been here to drop another $100 or more in pull tabs if the drinks were not CRAP!!!! My son, Marty, has been hellbent on going to this place for quite awhile. Before I let that old fart son take me there for the first time, I figured I would check it out by myself. First of all, parking in TERRIFYING. However, I've been handy capped for my years now, so I get to park where I want, when I want. There is not a parking lot. Let me fast forward 30 minutes. Now I'm walking inside and it's everything I imagine. Gram gram has a new scale to rate bars by. And I rate this place 4.6 "Grams". The waitress asked me if I wanted a beer before I even sat down. +1 GRAM. Then it's also a restraint. I was able to order a patty melt. This patty melt was different from other party melts, so I asked the cook, what gives? He told me (sidebar, there is a growing problem with males in the kitchens in restraints. I just don't understand these times. Women were always in the kitchen in my day because we were never able to develop any real life skills. A crippling blow to nostalgic night.) anyways he told me each onion is handpicked by a fully waged employee and that these are fair trade onions. I asked HeyZues how I know it's fair trade and he said each fair trade onion had a sticker on it. Party melt with fair trade onion +1 GRAM. The third GRAM point came when I went to the bathroom. Warning: Grandma talk coming. They use Charmin Ultra Soft 2-ply toilet paper. Which is septic safe and strong, too--and you can use up to 4x less. I came into town and met a group of friends here for a night out to celebrate my wife's birthday. The was enough room to support a large table and the service was quick and friendly enough. It is not too loud to carry on a conversation. Parking is adequate. The place is clean and non-intimidating. I am very happy to have Tip Top about 2 blocks away from home. It is the perfect bar to just pop into to have a drink and relax. This is not a pretentious crowd, It is a mix between young and old people just looking to have fun for a bit. The bartenders are so attentive, friendly and helpful it's a bit alarming. Their drinks are not over priced and wednesday 50 cent tacos is the perfect deal. Tables are big enough for a big group, but I like to go there with my bf to have a drink, play some ping pong and beat all the records on buck hunt. So the deal is a Friday at 10pm in old town downtown Vancouver with over 47 (yes I stopped counting at 47) customers in this bar and only ONE, yes I said one bartender. Who's doubling as the cook.... I'd have to Say the serves is less than I'd like. Waited 39 minutes to get pull tabs because the bartender was busy. She really was busy too, plus really nice. But NOT COOL TO WAIT THAT LONG. Rudest waitress bartender ever! Came in for breakfast and no one was around so grabbed a menu and waited to order at bar. Bartender comes out and demands to know where we got the menu. I pointed to the menus and she yells at us and tells us we are not allowed behind the counter (even though it was in a walkway). Then proceeds to tell the cook how rude we are then come and waits on us and my husband apologizes that we weren't meaning anything and she interrupts him and tells him how inappropriate we are. Needless to say we won't be back and she got ZERO tip. No customers around the entire time we were there. I can see why. Also the cheese was not cooked in the omelette and there was a hair on the plate. But the attitude this bartender has is the WORST!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure the only reason they keep her there is for old men to stare at her hooker boots and sleazy attire. Wow. Good food and service. A group met there yesterday for a beer and just try it out. The hamburger was truly great. Potato salad was great also. There's a large horseshoe counter, lots of tables, some outside seating, friendly service, not too loud, pool, video games, punch boards, beer and liquor. Great neighborhood bar with excellent food (chef stopped at the table and said he was new), very cold pitchers of beer, pull-tabs for the wife and an interesting clientele. We both had sandwiches which were generously filled with meat on very fresh bread. The French fries were perfectly done and hot. Local Arnada Neighborhood watering hole that's literally been around forever. My grandfather used to frequent the place back in the 60's. Fantastic prices on beer and long-poured hard liqs. 50-Cent Taco Wednesdays are the absolute best, but their standard menu is REALLY good as well (including daily specials). Waitresses are always fast and friendly. Outdoor seating during the summer is great . Great place! read more
