The rep, Marshall, was friendly, helpful and professional. He represented the company well, didn't rush me and was easy to work with. When I called to set up the app't I chatted with Deven, who was also very helpful and ordered the part I needed ahead of time to make sure the process was as easy as possible for me. i held off on making this review but idc anymore... i took my car to pep boys to replace the brake pads & at first i thought maybe it was bc they were short staffed the day i was told to bring it in. the day i brought my car in, everything seemed fine and the job seemed to have been PROPERLY done.. however, i noticed after they gave me my car back, i still had really bad squeaking (yes i know new brakes squeak esp if they're wet) but because i couldn't stand listening to the squeaking of my brakes, i took matters into my own hands and took off my wheel and the pads, i come to find that the "new" brake pads they installed had chipped on both the passenger and driver side pad. Also the hardware for said brake pad was sooo loose & when you get a set of pads, the hardware comes with... so i just see a whole lot of "lack of care" in the service that was done & not inspecting the product before placing it on the car is a rookie move imo. let's just say i won't be coming back & now that they fucked up and made me learn how to do my own pads, this is a lesson learned. read more

Not recommended. I had a few things done here, including my brakes about a year ago and paid over $1,500. A few months later, they started making noise again. My paperwork says I have a lifetime warranty on the brake pads. I called 3 days in advance to schedule an oil change and have my brakes checked. When I walked in, Devin had an attitude and was rude to multiple customers. I told him I was there for an oil change and brake inspection, and he was cursing about this and that. He told me I would have to wait 4+ hours for both services. I explained that I had called ahead for the same reason, so I said never mind, just do the oil change. He said it would take 1-2 hours. I've already been waiting 1.5 hours and my car is still sitting in front untouched. At this point, I'm ready to leave and take my business somewhere else. read more

Always had a good experience with this Pep Boys. It is next to an Advance Auto Parts that shares the same building. Over the years this Pep Boys store underwent some changes. At some point in time a lot of the self service auto parts was turned over to Advance Auto - I'm not sure the relationship if there is any at all - but the parts store was great when it was run under the Pep Boys leadership. I've always liked how friendly the Pep Boys side was for car repair. Sometimes I even come by with some extra oil when I do my own oil changes and the guys there let me drop off. This is a great full service auto maintenance spot if you don't like the dealers. It's usually quicker and cheaper too. Right now the Advance Auto Parts next door has signs up that they are moving or going out of business. Would be great if Pep Boys takes over again like they once did years and years ago. read more

On June 12 I made an appointment online to bring my car to Pep Boys to fix a flat tire. The calendar/times available were from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. I chose 5:00 p.m., got confirmation, and went to the shop to perform the repairs. Upon my arrival, I was told there's only one mechanic and he was backed up with repairs plus he would be leaving at 5:00. Then why did the calendar have 5:00 p.m. at the available appointment time? All they could offer was to reschedule me for Saturday to fix the flat tire. Really? 2 days to wait around for a flat tire repair? Of course I said no thank you. While in the parking lot, I found a tire repair shop Tire and Wheel Mart only 4 minutes away at 2456 Whipple Avenue - I drove over and explain my situation. They told me to bring the truck around and pull it into a stall. Took them less than 10 minutes to fix my flat tire and only charge me $15!!? Pep Boys did not live up to the reputation or their name. I'm wanted to really give pep boys a try I heard mixed reviews about them, I took my truck for an Intermittent starting issue and teng could not find problem with it so I picked it up . My truck stopped starting for a week a took a video of it this time and showed to the manager Marshall super nice . I called my tow truck and he tapped on the starter and got it started to I was able to drive it in . When I got the report they recommended an optima battery because they said it was testing bad keep in my battery it two months old original ac delco . I looked at the inspection and saw they had the wrong vehicle information they had registered as a 2500 and it's a 1500 so my thought was they tested my battery at the wrong Amps . I decided I would pick up my truck and take it somewhere else instead next day another shop diagnosed a bad starter and replaced it under my extended warranty . 2 stars for how nice they were but as customer I will not return or recommend any customer to them as I lost trust . read more

I had my brakes serviced last weekend. scheduled my appointment the night before. Dropped my car off around 10:00am and picked up my car around 5pm. Rear brakes new rotors and brake pads and also a oil change. Berto was really helpful and honest about the service that I need for my car. Lee the technician showed me my worn brake pads and advised me that my front brakes are still good. so no need to change them. Price was reasonable. To be honest I was skeptical at first because of the Bad reviews. but they prove me wrong. just be patient people if they can't finish your car quickly. I ordered two tires and got an appointment next day at noon to install which is normal. The problem was that he told me it would take about one hour for the service. So I decided to go and just wait for the service. I arrived about ten minutes early and I was then told it should take about two hours until completion. So I walked to the McDonalds nearby to have lunch and came back to Pep Boys after 1:40p.m. I noticed my car is still outside in the same spot I left it. I then asked the person at the counter, he said they are short handed that day and it will be done soon. We'll, it did not get done until 3:45p.m. I would not have any problems if they had inform me from the beginning that it would take 3 to 4 hours to complete. I could simply drop off my car and pick it up after work. Why keep telling me something that is simply a "lie" from my standpoint. I had time today so I thought I would go closer and thought it will be cheaper. It was actually double the cost and they recommended more changes than the actual dealership, and they did not give me a break down of cost, they told me over the phone "hmmm" when I said they charging double. I will never take my car there again!!!! First, there's no where to wait for vehicle to serviced.. Should have been a red flag from the beginning. I had ordered tires and had them delivered for installation. I arrived to my appointment late so I was prepared to have to wait to be fitted in. After I was told it was going to be a two hour wait, I told them I would leave the car and pick it up the next day. Well, the next day was thanksgiving so I knew that wasn't possible so I was prepared for it to take an additional day. Three days later still no call. I finally got a call asking about my order verses the current tire size. I ordered the correct the size per the manufacture, I can't see any reason why their certified technicians couldn't figure that out without me telling them that. Then I call back the next day, supposably there was a delay with the billing for my PREPAID service. So now on day 4 I'm finally called and told that my car was ready, but when I pick it up the tire pressure light is on, even though I requested 3 different times to have it inspected during the installation process. After additional research on my part, it appears that my vehicle REQUIRES that the tire pressure sensors are reprogrammed every time you do anything with the tires. So now I'm riding around with new tires and the pressure light on. I called asking why my light is still on and of course I'm told whatever BS excuse and told to DROP IT back off again. How can you tell me what my vehicle needs when you haven't even got the baseline information about the vehicle that you're talking about?!! Long story short, I'm taking my car somewhere else to get it serviced correctly. Never again, if any thing they need to pay me for doing their jobs. I will not bring my car to Pep Boys again. They broke my nav display and could not fix it. The battery on my 2015 Lexus IS350 was getting weak so I decided to stop by Pep Boys to get it replaced. Wait time was 2.5 hours (they did not have the battery in stock) When the car was ready I noticed the navigation screen was not operating. As It was now close to closing, I decided to take the car back the next day. That night I researched the issue online and found a solution. I brought the car back the next day and a print out of the solution. Another 1 hour wait. "Sorry, your solution does not work. We don't have the equipment to scan the car. Take it to a dealer" I brought the carl home and tried the solution on my own. The display came back on. Since I live in Fremont, made an appointment for 08:30 at the Union City store, to get the balancing checked. Called Sunday and made appointment at 8:30am then next day due to being able to get the work done quicker. At least that's what I was told. Got in Monday @ 8:30 and the first thing I was asked was if I was leaving the car as it could take a while. I let the guy know, Carlos, I was waiting. This place has no waiting room which wasn't mentioned. I call at 10:00am and ask if the car is ready or what the status was. Carlos answered and tells me it hasn't been worked on yet and it could take a while because an 8am appointment is a big truck so it's a big job and it takes longer. He seriously used it was a big truck as an excuse! I asked to speak to his manager and he stated he is the store manager... When I arrived that morning there was no other vehicle in the front parking lot. I told him I don't understand why appointments are made when technicians aren't available to do the service. He started going on and on about having to complete the service on the earlier appointment and they can't tell how long it's going to take until the service has started. At this point, everything coming out of Carlos' mouth is insulting and is a shame cause some folks don't know any better. That appointment at 8am, mine was for 8:30. If they expect one tech to be able to service an "unknown" job in 30 minutes, either this guys is flat out lying or the company isn't concerned with customer service at all. When the manager came over to see what was happening the clerk made a point to say "SHE picked the wrong wipers". After trying to upsell me on different wipers (that weren't right) we found out that EUKEKA! The ones I picked initially were correct ones. The clerk "didn't know that the wipers came with two sets of adapters for different cars". After re-buying the wipers I originally picked out, it took all three "men" on duty to figure out which adapter would fit on my car since they only drove and worked on Japanese cars. This was super irritating and disappointing and I don't appreciate being thrown under the bus due to a man's incompetence and inability to install windshield wipers. Just don't offer. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I am a loyal customer of Pepboys Union City,CA since they opened on the late 90's. This place is my favorite hang out besides Home Depot across the parking lot. Everyone was so nice associates managers doing their part to make everything good. I bought so many parts here since I was a mobile mechanic during the days. I rendered lots of service here alignments, wheel balance, rotations etc. Suddenly, looks like things have changed. Since I bought my 4 tires here I wanted to take advantage of the free balance and rotation which the car really needed. I was scheduled for 1:00 pm October 19 Saturday. When I got there the service associate informed me that they are short of mechanic and they cannot work on my car and I agreed on his recommendation to get back the following day which is October 20, Sunday for another appointment at 9:00 am. So there I was in the line excited to be check in and upon talking to him he gave a bad news that their compressor was broken yesterday (October 19) and they cannot work on my car again. I am a very understanding person that things happens but hello can't you just call me and tell me not to waste my time and gas to come there for nothing. I know my blood pressure was up but I tried to be calm. It still hurts me giving a 1 star this kind of practice shouldn't get one. So disappointed! Customer service apologized and rescheduled my appointment. Then, I show up for the rescheduled appointment, only for them to tell me that they can't perform the scheduled work because "they are just too backed up with appointments." Had a great experience at this location. Benito and Lee took great care of my vehicle. Came in on a Sunday for a nail in a tire and ended up asking for an alignment and wheel balance as my front tires had been causing some vibration while driving at high speed. Lee did an amazing job with the balance and alignment, my car runs so smoothly now! He kept me updated on the progress and even pointed out some existing damage to my wheel rim (likely pot hole related). Looked for the correct wiper and was unable to figure out which length of wiper was needed.
