I had to fight with the Home Warranty company for 3 weeks to repair a problem with the AC after an incomplete and incorrect assessment of the problem by TL Services. We were having problems with the AC unit not working consistently. It would blow cold air for a while, then the cold air would stop and the system just blew air. We have a home warranty though First American. They assigned the problem to TL Services. First of all, it took 6 days before the tech came out which is not reasonable for no AC in the summer. The tech was here for maybe 15 minutes. He checked the condenser unit then went into the attic to check the unit. He saw some loose insulation around a condensation pump, took a picture of it, and said he would need to provide the information to the warranty company. He did not even try to brush away the loose insulation. Based on his quick visual observation, the ins company denied the claim. At 77 years old, I climbed up into the attic and brushed away the insulation, but that did nothing to resolve the problem. The issues were identical to the initial problem. I appealed the decision with the warranty company and they said I would need to hire my own technician to determine what the problem really was as they had already denied and closed the claim. I hired a tech out of pocket and he found the problem quickly, which was a cracked drain line under the evaporative cooler, no where near where the loose insulation was found. I appealed and the warranty company said they would reopen the claim. I asked for a different contractor as TL obviously had only done a cursory inspection and had not spent any more time to adequately determine what the real issue was. It took over 3 weeks to get AC back on, because TL did and incomplete job in evaluating the true cause of the problem. read more

My AC unit stop pushing out cold air on a Thursday afternoon and most companies couldn't come out until Monday. When I reached out to TL services and told them that I had guests coming for the weekend, they were able to squeeze me on Friday. TJ came out and was able to diagnose and fix the problem within 5 mins. He definitely saved the weekend because it was 93 degrees out and it would have ruined the weekend for my guests. TL Services was very responsive and coordinated the appointment within one hour of me placing the service call. TJ, their service person was very professional and efficient. I just bought a condo. The heat was not working and my warranty company set me up with TL Services. The Technician arrived and he said that the system was in the roof and that he could not fix it. I told him that the cooling and heating controller was indoors in the closet. He told me that I had two choices, to believe him or not to believe him and that either way he did not care because he was getting paid. After he spend 15 minutes moving things around, guess what..... he was able to turn on the heating system via the controller in the closet, so I was correct. He did not apologize, but even doubled down on the fact that I should have access to the roof. I called the company to request for someone that knows about the controller to come out and inspect it, since I did not trust the work the other tech did. The person on the phone said they were a manager, and they were terrible. Equally as rude as the technician. Did not offer to send someone else out there. We had a furnace in the attic that no longer activated through the thermostat. We have AHS and TL Services was sent. The furnace was in the attic so the tech had to go up there with a ladder he brought. Quickly determined that a main fuse had blown out. Replaced it and checked for other problems. Once the furnace was working the tech was courteous enough to test if the thermostat s in the upstairs and downstairs were working properly including the AC units which we leave off most of the time. My AC stopped pumping out cold air, so I opened up a service request, and American Home Shield assigned me TL Services. I have to say, I don't usually have great experiences with contractors sent out by home warranty companies, but TL Services were great! It was in the middle of a heat wave, so it did take them 2 days to schedule an appointment, but the technician came out at the beginning of the service window and within 5 minutes diagnosed my issue as a blown capacitor. I booked an A/C checkup through my home warranty company, and a tech from TL Services came out. He determined that there was a small leak in the tubing near the outside unit, and that my refrigerant was very, very low. I was very surprised when my warranty company called to tell me that the tech recommended the repair and adding 12 lbs of coolant to the system to the tune of $1020, since the warranty company only covers $10 per pound of coolant. I was again surprised when I looked at the label on my A/C unit and found that it only holds 6.25 lbs of coolant! I found another company, who's very nice and efficient owner came to my home and found NO leak and that the coolant level was 50% of capacity. After calling several repair places and being disappointed, this company was a breath of fresh air. They had no problem coming out to Alpine to repair my washer. The repairman was friendly, courteous, and professional. He took a look at my washer and quoted me a price. I must admit that I thought it was a little expensive. But then again, I don't know a lot about washers. Unfortunately, he did not have a replacement part in his truck. However, he called in and they were able to get the part the next day. He scheduled an appointment time for the next day and I was a little unsure about whether he would show up. But, he did! And most importantly...ON TIME!! The part is covered under warranty by the company so I have piece of mind that I won't have any issues. All in all, I was very satisfied and THANKFUL that someone was able to fix my washer. We just bought a home with an old, in the floor gas furnace which gave off horrible smells the first two weeks we used it. Our home warranty insurance chose this contractor. The technician came late, after the 4 hour service window. He quickly examined the furnace and said it was very dangerous and not to use it because of plastic pieces in it. UPDATE 10/21 (4 stars): If you read my posts below, things didn't start out great with TL Services, hence the 4 stars. After TJ called on the 23rd, things have gone great. He processed the paperwork with my home warranty company, got the parts ordered and on 10/16, Victor came out to install the new unit. He did a great job and, although it cooled off outside, I ran my AC and enjoyed it on Saturday. One thing that really impressed me was that when I went down to check in on Victor a couple times, there was a huge mess with parts and trash all over my carport. When he was done, I think my carport was cleaner than when it started. I also noticed he even sorted the recycling from the trash. Had it not been for the poor service from the answering service, I would give them 5 stars and i would certainly recommend them. UPDATE 09/23 (3 stars): TJ from TL Services today called me in regards to my original post below. He apologized for the poor customer service I received on Sunday and advised it was an answering service. He also explained he did turn my unit off because he is required to since it is leaking freon, and apologized for not telling me he did so. He is sending me a detailed estimate to review for the replacement and offered to walk me through it, should I wish to have them replace the unit. I increased the review from one to three stars for his efforts in making things right and will update with a final rating after this is resolved. TL services responded to our home when we asked for a 2nd opinion from AHS, our home warranty company. The tech was supposed to inspect my AC ducts and report back to AHS as to the condition of my AC ducts. When the technician arrived, he entered my attic and took pictures of my ducts. He stated that my ducts were old, and falling apart due to age of the ducts. I advised him that the master bedroom ducts were non functional. He took photos of the ducts that did not even lead to my master bedroom. I asked for a report and the technician stated that he was not required to provide one. I asked him what he was going to report back to AHS and he stated that he was going to report that the ducts were falling apart due to age. When AHS called me to deny my claim, they said that the technician from TL services stated that my ducts that lead to my master bedroom was crushed and was denying my claim. They advised me that he verbally stated that they were crushed and the other ducts were functioning and in good working order. Wow!, I am appalled that he could even say that. The ducts were all rusted, falling apart, and leaking all over in the attic. I had my ducts inspected by San Diego Gas and Electric and was pressure / leak tested. It was reported that my ducts were leaking over 40%. Really? Functioning and good working order? Wow. TL services do not know what they are doing. I will post pictures of what my ducts look like when Carini Air Conditioning pulled my old ducts out to replace them. TL services was the third contractor assigned to my by American Home Shield, after the first one (to whom I paid my $75.00 fee) literally dropped off the face of the Earth, and the second one, based on his phone call with me, decided he didn't want to, or wasn't capable of, handling my problem. I can't make this stuff up. TJ from TL Services came out and proposed solutions. Working with and through AHS isn't often easy, and this wasn't either. I had to take an involved proactive role dealing with AHS. Eventually, we all got onto the same page. Unfortunately, this took months to accomplish. A small amount of that, I think, goes to TL Services because, unlike other HVAC companies, TL is a very small operation and does not employ dozens and dozens of people. That's the reason I give TL four stars instead of five. However, once we got on the same page as AHS, and once my wife and I agreed on exactly what upgrades we wanted/needed, and agreed on a price from TJ, everything went rather quickly (under one week). Victor and Leo did a great install job and everything is exactly as I want it to be. After 47 years, my house finally has a size-appropriate HVAC system installed with 21st technology instead of tech from the 1960s. Everything works great and I am very satisfied. This company was called out by AHS. These guys are a joke! This guy comes out with a clip board and just looks at the HVAC. He doesn't bring any tools but a ladder. Doesn't use a laser temp gauge to check vents he just tries to feel for air. He states "I've never seen anything like this before" referring to the roof top AC UNIT. Very lazy doesn't like to get dirty. Really? He was in and out within 15 min. He looked in the attic and states he cannot see anything. Well a real professional would have been well equipped with laser temp gauge, pipe camera, a screw driver or two. I would definitely not recommend this clipboard and ladder dude. Not everyone is cut out to actually do work this HVAC work. This guy included. They wanted me to either cut holes in the ceiling or roof? Yet when this unit was installed they didn't have to cut holes. "Any job too big or too small they can do it" that's their motto. I think I'm going to get my HVAC license now. read more

Got linked up with this company through my American Home Shield Warranty. They called me and I asked them if they worked on the humidifier that works with my HVAC system. They said yes. They came out and the tech said they actually don't work on humidifiers and basically just left. I ended up getting charged for the service call and NO ONE will take the responsibility that they initially gave me wrong information and now I am left with the bill. Why would I have someone come out to my house if I knew they didn't work on the item I needed fixed. My air conditioner went out July 15, 2017..... With this being a new purchase we have a home warranty with American Shield. The warranty company had this company come out to inspect air conditions. After inspection they contacted home warranty company that stated repair that needed to be done and with modifications would cost me over $1000. The old unit was 19 years old and I decided to obtain a new air conditioner and furnace. I got several quote and TL Services beat every other quote received. We have called TL services to work on our home. They were efficient to say the least. Their work was clean and the price was fair and competitive. They were clear about the work needed to be done and there were no misunderstanding whatsoever. We left them to their work and they have given us instructions on how to keep our units in good condition and if we had any more problems, they will help us out.....which they did! Contractors are usually hard to deal with when the work has been already done and paid for. One star is a generous rating. I think I am a fairly reasonable, level-headed customer (see my other reviews - I have more positive ones than negative), but this company is possibly the worst I have encountered. Like many others here, I have fallen victim to the American Home Shield/TL Services scam. My home warranty company, American Home Shield (AHS), assigned TL Services to inspect my 10 year old AC unit after I discovered it was only blowing hot air (I recently purchased my condo). The TL Services technician seemed friendly and knowledgeable and told my father and me that the unit couldn't be repaired and would have to be replaced. He pointed out some surface rust, wrote a few things down, and was off, leaving me thinking he was going to tell AHS my unit needed to be replaced. I was thus shocked when, after being on hold with AHS for almost 90 minutes, the representative told me that the technician had reported a coil was completely rusted through and that a nearby sprinkler had caused the rust, thereby making the problem not due to normal wear and tear and not eligible for coverage. This is completely inaccurate to the point of being fraud. Not only is the coil not rusted all the way through (I have pictures to document this), but the sprinkler is in a location that would make it virtually impossible for more than a tiny bit of spray to hit the coil. To state that an outdoor AC unit couldn't withstand a momentary very light spray (if anything at all) is ridiculous. I emailed TL Services twice and called three times, each time leaving a message. I explained that I wanted to speak to someone to see if there was a miscommunication between them and my home warranty company, or at the very least to understand what happened. They were completely non-responsive. After a lot of effort (I believe that in total - over numerous calls - I was on hold with AHS for over 8 hours!!!), I convinced AHS to send another contractor out. The other contractor indicated there is no way the rust was caused by a sprinkler. Thus I thankfully was able to get my AC unit replaced under warranty ...but only after a four month battle. read more

Don't trust them. They are contracted by American Home Shield and will tell you one thing and AHS another. Never repaired my unit and left it a mess. To respond to the Owner's comment - sorry, there was no confusion on AHS' part - they didn't pay for the repair because the technician flat out LIED to AHS. The 30+ year old AC unit didn't break down and leak grease/oil becuase it was dirty. It broke becuase it was 30+ years old. That's what the technicial told me (I specifically asked what the issue was) but the tech told AHS another story. When I asked for a copy of the report TL Services submitted to AHS, TL told me that they wouldn't give me a copy. Oh and by the way - the technician just left my AC unit torn apart on the roof of my condo building. And, didn't put the cover back on the inside unit/blower. Left grease marks on the white cover and remnant of the ceiling on the floor. Didn't bother to even attempt to clean anything. read more

Couldn't agree more with "Jen K." They were sent out by AHS to repair my furnace. They replaced one part they believed was causing the problem. A few days later, I called them back to report that the issue was not resolved and they came back out and said they planned on replacing another part. I never heard from them again. When I called AHS, it was learned that TL Services reported to them that there was nothing wrong with the furnace (basically calling me a liar). They are inefficient and incompetent. Our AC system broke down over the weekend & we didn't know where to turn, especially with the steamy hot days. AHS screws so many people by sending out these hacks. We had to get a new heater installed so AHS sent them out. Guy comes through and says that there are several parts that need to be replaced to make the new heater compatible with the original duct work. Cost me $645 out of pocket for the additional stuff. We did not get an itemized receipt with an estimate or after the work was done. Flash forward 14 months and we got a quote to have an A/C system put in (by a VERY reputable, HIGHLY recommended, honest, family owned business, obviously I'm not talking about T L Services), only to find out that T L Services was supposed to put in a different heating register, one that was big enough to meet the airflow demand of our heater and should have made us aware that the heater was hooked up to an asbestos lined pipe, so our family was breathing in all the chemicals every time the heater came on for that 14 months! Turns out, the acid water mixture created by the condensation of the cold pipe heated up every time the heater kicks on can also damage the heater and void the warranty. I called TJ about this danger and his initial response was, "I was only there to fix what was covered by the home warranty". After a while during our conversation he tells me that it was underhanded of the other company to bring the work that needed to be done to our attention. Really?! Underhanded to let a homeowner know they're breathing in toxic air because you didn't do your job because it wasn't covered by the home warranty?! He did offer to come out and look at the pipe and give us a quote to have it removed - as if I'm stupid enough to trust him to do ANY work on my house! When I mentioned all the negative Yelp reviews and that he should maybe reevaluate his business practices he said, "Anyone can write anything they want on Yelp, it means nothing. We have an A+ BBB rating and that's the only thing that matters". If you're an avid Yelper like me, know that this guy basically said, none of you matter. As for those that have had bad experiences, file a complaint with the BBB, see if he changes his tune then! read more

The insurance company sent this company out to get a second opinion on our furnace. Apparently "TL" himself was the technician to show up. According to him, the heat exchanger was rusted and cracked, and the furnace needed to be replaced. SDG&E inspected the furnace a couple days later and said that everything was working perfectly right. Of course, if I were gonna replace the furnace, only one of these technicians stands a chance of making money......... read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They were sent by AHS to service my HVAC system, which had a tear in the ducting. The technician came out and said that it would be covered, but unfortunately didn't have the material and will need AHS to send them out again. I get a call from AHS saying that it's not covered because TL services reported that the tear is not normal wear tear. Classic tell one thing to the home owner and tell another to the warranty company that other reviewers commented. This confirms that this is TL's standard business practice. read more

I worked with TL Services back in late October when I had a major flood and spent a lot of money with them, including getting a new water heater unit. I didn't use my air conditioner at all after they completed the project. Then, last weekend, I tried to use it for the first time and noticed that the compressor wasn't powered on - but didn't know how to power it on. TL Services refused to come out and said I would need to file a new home warranty claim. Now I have to wait a couple of days for a new company to come out. Don't recommend. read more
