Casual little spot with a couple tables you can seat yourself at after you've ordered. Went in craving a cheeseburger and I was not disappointed despite it being vegan (I'm not vegan). My only real complaint is that the burger fell apart as I was eating it. The homemade mayo and pickles were just too wet for the toasted bread. It was really delicious so I wasn't too bothered, just a messy burger. I also had the fries which are fresh cut and are served with an addictive homemade ketchup. I thought I wasn't going to like the fries because they weren't super crispy but with the seasoning and the ketchup... I didn't care that they weren't well done. Drink selection is kind of meh... Bruce's Ginger ale and kombucha but with food that good.... Ill be back to try more stuff, and I'm not a vegan. read more

LOVE Toadstyle!! I've going here for years & it always serves great comfort vegan food! California burrito & the jackfruit nachos are my favorite and always consistent. John, at the counter, is super nice, helpful & has great customer service despite what ONE other review says....sounds like that was a seamless issue because the restaurant does not have their own delivery people so how would they send out another delivery person?? Let's all be a little more supportive of our struggling restaurants during this pandemic & understand that small businesses, like Toadstyle, are under-staffed, over-worked and trying the best they can. The food was okay. The customer service was awful....its not worth it. It's really not worth it. Either train the people who are working there or shut down dine-in and just be delivery. Then you can play the music as loud as you want and not refill water tanks all day long. The girl at the front had me wait 10 minutes to place an order. If she acknowledged me or said "Hold on" or anything, it would've been totally fine, but she didn't do anything.....except fry things and check her phone. The water tank was empty, which is fine. But I told the person at the front that it was and waited for like twelve minutes....and it was still empty so I got desperate and physically had to tip it over to get whatever remaining water was in the tank for my cup. They also play the music really loud and keep changing the songs midway....why. Cut that out it's a restaurant not a road trip. read more

I'm not sure if I've ever dealt with workers as unfriendly and rude as the ones here. I'd long anticipated trying Toad Style, I work in the area and it came so highly recommended by both coworkers and friends. The treatment we received was borderline hostile and I'm not sure how they have this many good reviews. After telling my coworkers about how awful the experience was, they said that they only place orders through Grubhub because everyone in there is so unfriendly. They did say that the same people owned the coffee shop across the street and that the staff there is much, much friendlier. As for the food, my boyfriend and I got two dishes to split and mine (a burrito) was quite tasty, but his cheeseburger was mushy and incredibly bland. He took two bites before throwing it out and settling for half of mine. There are SO many good vegan spots in the area that are half the price, with more options and a staff that isn't awful. Definitely my favorite affordable restaurant in Bed Stuy even though I'm not a vegan. They seem to be popular with the takeout crowd probably since they're so small. I got a broccoli and cheese and the fried cauliflower. The cauliflower was more a main course than a side. It was huge pieces of cauliflower, well seasoned, piping hot (cut them in half before taking a bite), and really tender. I thought the broccoli did not come with enough cheese, but it was soaking in garlicky oil, which made it really decadent and filling. I hope this is the future of fast food. read more

Favorites include the grilled cheese sandwich, made especially good with a little extra of the onion and fig combination; the fried broccoli (or cauliflower depending on the season); the fried pickles; and the soups (which have been consistently amazing). The ambiance is hip-hop/martial arts themed casual. If you want fine dining, try the vegan tasting menu at Del Posto. I just left toad style -- I had high hopes for my okra po boy which I ordered at 1849h on aug 19 2017 and sat down and waited patiently for it. 30 mins goes by which is longer than usual and my friend got his sandwich so I asked about mine and he goes 15 more mins. I'm like ok weird and he's like "yea there's a line". so I wait for 25 more and then ask for a refund because I've waited 50 mins plus now. They give me the refund (no apology still) so I wait around to get my free sandwich -- and another 20 mins goes by. So I get up and start making eye contact with the guy , YOU know , SO he knows I'm still waiting. And he looks at me and asks what I want so I tell him I'm still waiting for the sandwich. Rude service, high prices and mediocre food. When I first found out about this place, I was very excited. I biked by it a couple of times and liked what a I saw - a weathered looking awning with some wacky Chinese opera style illustrations. I had thought this was maybe a forgotten ital place or a hippy cafe lost in the heart of Bed-Stuy. One step inside was enough to cast my hopes aside. Bourgeois hipster 101... Alas, well maybe the food's cheap and good. I walk up to the counter to take a look at the menu, and yikes! $11 veggie burgers! Why do all new vegan places cater to the expendable income crowd?! Anyway, maybe at prices like that, people will be friendly. Nope. I order my "Sunshine Burger" and am asked if i want anything else - I say, "do you guys have coffee?", to which I am abruptly replied, "Across the street" in a flat, annoyed sounding tone of voice. Lots of flavors going on, some of them way too strong and all of them fighting. BBQ jackfruit is fun but not great. Banh Mi was surprisingly bland. I live right by here and swear by toad style for 3 years now. The staff is so friendly and accommodating even throughout the corona era where they're only doing pickup. Was looking for a new vegan place closer to home and stumbled across Toad Style. Ordered the Philly and the hand cut fries. Overall it was pretty good but not worth the price. Only issue was I had was the amount oil/grease in the sandwich; as I'm very sensitive to it. I personally won't be back but I would recommend it if your in the Stuy and want to eat Vegan. read more

Though tasty, things were heavy-handed; so much sauce on the jerked jackfruit that the character of the jackfruit could not be discerned, so much breading on the fried Cauliflower that it tasted a little floury. The ambience is hacked to bits by blaring television. If you are interested in sitting for a meal and actually interacting with someone, this is not the place. If everything were toned down just a bit (the TV toned down a lot) it would be a nice place to sit for excellent food. read more
