I feel like everything I've had so far there has been really great. I would recommend the bacon Fried rice, calimari, Brussel sprouts, & either salmon or chicken. Everything blends well together & flavorful. Always has good service, and the chef is super nice & willing to talk about the food. Toast is a cool brunch spot located in Birmingham MI, my first time here and although there was a wait, it was worth it. The food came out fast and fresh... and the server was very attentive especially with everything going on. It's kind of tough for me because I haven't been to a restaurant since Covid but I felt safe here, that and we sat outside! My last two visits have been atrocious! This will be the end of my patronage. I ordered the "champagne pear pancakes." Wild mushroom omelette and grits were nice, the toast could have been a little more extraordinary given it's the namesake of the restaurant. Also had the pumpkin cinnamon roll as a starter for the table, it was probably my favorite part of the meal. Service was slow, but it was a Sunday morning so it was understandable. My husband and I wanted to try something different on our only day off together so we stopped in at Toast. Honestly pretty disappointed from beginning to end. Our service was terrible, the waitress was a young girl so that might have been why but she was super quiet and just there. I ordered the Chicken Waffle Benny with the sausage gravy and bacon rice. The chicken was also dry, almost like it was over fried and just overall lacking flavor. The bacon rice was honestly the best part of the meal. I do have to say that their presentation is spot on, they just really need to work on their service and food. Cute place inside too! Great outside patio which allows well behaved, friendly dogs. The food is ok; it isn't what it used to be. They don't have any of those fun hot cocoa drinks you see others sharing from years ago. Ordered Benny (Benedict) on a biscuit with heirloom tomatoes. Potatoes on the side. My son had eggs and corned beef hash. Being called toast I'd expect hot things to be served hot. Welllll...potatoes which were flavorless we're cold. Benny was cold except for the slice of ham. I think they have everything pre made and just build the dish, except for the poached eggs and toss the ham on the griddle. The "biscuit" had the consistency of undercooked pound cake. Heirloom tomato must be code for Kroger winter hot house tomato. I sent the dish back. It came back replated and nuked. My son couldn't tell if his scrambled eggs were undercooked or had cheese in them. Challah toast came with his but you must have to order jelly. Server never asked. It says on the menu "jam of the day"!?! Well the place is called toast not Jelly! Over all a sub par breakfast at any price but for a $40 tab it sucked. Advice. Walk the block to Panera. It was early, and when I saw that I was right around the corner from this place, I decided to grab a bit to eat. Walking in, I was warmly greeted by 2 hostesses. After reviewing the menu, I wasn't sure what to get. I randomly, (and quickly, I might add) decided to have Huervos Rancheros. I was sadly informed that it doesn't come with any sides, and if I wanted to order a side, I could. No, that's okay I thought. For almost $13, I assumed I would get a decent amount of food, thus allowing me to not need a side. Sadly, the serving wasn't all that big. Plus, I guess the chef put his own little twist of how he likes to serve it up? It had all the ingredients there, but looked funny. not my typical huervos Rancheros. Plus, the salsa wasn't that spicy and was on the bottom of the food, not on top. Look, I'm not mad or anything. But the prices here are quite high (maybe because it's Birmingham, high rent district?) and I was expecting something more. I wouldn't mind coming back here again and giving this place another shot. It wasn't bad, I just was hoping for more, that's all. Maybe I should try another dish next time to make sure it's not me. Upon calling them, there was no resolution other than they're sorry it's a busy day. The customer service was poor. We all understand there's a pandemic going, but please have some pride in service and quality of food. The grits for the shrimp and grits were extremely grainy, shrimp was salty, and there was nothing but some shrimp and grits - nothing else in it. The bacon was half cooked and the eggs were blah. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the burrito was okay. I know restaurants have bad days, but at least offer to refund my money when you get it this wrong. I got the vegetarian burrito and the ingredients didn't work well for me... potatoes inside were under cooked and cauliflower was a weird combination. Sides were not overly impressive either. Food choices were pretty out of the box. Bloody Mary was smoky instead of spicy with zip and flavor. Decor - definitely different, but overly quirky/trying a little too hard.
