One of my favorite breakfast places! It isn't huge so there's usually a wait but it's worth it! I went there yesterday morning with my guy. We always get the eggs benny with veggie sausage and grits. The hollandaise was a little sparse- but other than that the eggs were pretty good! The grits had very little seasoning and were a little drier than I would prefer but the Parmesan tuille makes up for any slight error! We also shared the lemon meringue French toast. I was disappointed in this place. We'd seen it for years and finally decided to try it. First, I'm not a fan of places that give you cans of pop to drink. That means no refills. The cinnamon roll was not soft and wasn't even warm. I would have preferred they throw it in the microwave for 20 seconds rather than eating a cold cinnamon roll. The chicken and waffles was just okay. A basic waffle and 2 tender size pieces of fried chicken. I guess for the price I just expected a little more. My youngest got the pound cake french toast and he liked it. My other son got the mushroom omelet with a side of the fried rice and he said it was fine. My hubby got a very small, expensive bellini with his breakfast. I think it was the only time I've seen him only get one drink with a meal. This place is toward the bottom of my list of breakfast choices. I don't mind a more expensive place, as long as the food justifies it. I did not feel that the food we got was worth the price we paid. Oh, and a side note, they automatically put gratuity on your bill. So be careful you don't accidently give a double tip. read more

Ok this review should not indicate Toast as a whole because i usually love it. Today was a different story tho. First the host came to our table while the waitress was taking our order, interrupting us to confirm who we were. 10 minutes after he sat us there. And then he started complaining about another employee instead of letting us finish our order. Nice fella just not really well trained i think. Now we get our food but the waitress never gave us utensils or napkins. So we are just staring at our food like ok now what. Waiting on the waitress, assuming she was bringing forks for us. Never came back so we asked another table for their silverware. Now i love the food here usually. I got the chicken and waffles which is amazing. The chicken was super small today. Flavor was still there. The cheesy grits were dry AF. Horrible. And a hair in my ladies eggs. Now normally i dont really write reviews unless i think management should see it and sort it out so i'm hoping they see this. After this lack luster service we discover that even for a 2 top table, the tip is pre added to bill. This is a new thing. I always tip well but to be forced into giving 20% tip...i now see why the service was so whack. They can do whatever and still get paid. Wait time, not to bad for a Sunday morning, and the food was great... once we got it. We (table of two) placed our order 15 minutes before two other tables of two sat down, but did not receive our meals until after them. Additionally, be aware that they automatically tack on an 18% tip. This is too bad as I typically tip much more than that. The food is "fine" to say the least. But honestly, my problem is with the wait. There's always a wait. even if you call for a reservation, you'll be waiting a minimum of 20 minutes. I, personally, went for my birthda, and I couldn't even wait the entire 50+ minutes because my guesta were too hungry to wait. For me, the only solution is to )a. get a bigger location or )b. get a better waiting systen for your customers. An hour and some change of waiting for a table that will already over charge me in the slightest is not what I want. read more

One of my favorite breakfast spots! I've been here so many times for breakfast and each time is always amazing. The inside is very cozy and quirky with LOTS of different toasters and toasting accessories strategically placed throughout the restaurant. Space wise, it is a tad bit small and I have had to wait for an available table every now and then, but I promise you it's worth the wait. And the menu has something for just about everyone, they even have veggie friendly choices too! Breakfast foods such as scrambles, omelettes, breakfast burritos and lots of different toast options (my absolute fav is the jalapeño and cheddar challah!) and lunch foods such as burgers, sandwiches and salads. I'm a huge fan of their scrambles, especially since I can add veggie sausage to them! I usually just order from the custom omelet section and ask them to make it into a scramble, which they always do without a problem. I've had my eye on a few other entrees I have got to try, like this French toast dish with bourbon sauce (!) and jalapeño cheddar challah grilled cheese with gruyere, cheddar, onion and tomato soup (!). Who am I to choose?! Especially when both sound sooooo good! But the bottom line is the food here is always on point, it's always seasoned and fresh, so I have a pretty good feeling that anything I try, will be just as delicious as everything else I've had on the menu. Went for brunch. Found parking on the street but there was a small lot too that seemed full. On a Friday 1pm the wait was 10-15 mins for party of 2 but I can imagine the weekend is a mess. Small wait area for about 4 ppl in the back. Looks like they had pet friendly outdoor seating for summer. I love the hipster atmosphere and funky art. Our server Yoshi was kind, helpful and attentive to it being our first time. The food and drinks were Amazingly delicious!!! No complaints! Fresh, hot, good flavors. I just wish the place was bigger. I love Toast they never disappoint even though I have never been to this location. I always hit the location in Birmingham. From the door to the decor I love this place! My food was so damn good, I had the Spicy Cali Omelette filled with guacamole, jalapeños, spices, tomatoes and herbs w/ the Apple Walnut toast grilled of course with some breakfast home fries! And my friend had the Toast Hash with cornbeef and hard fried egg to top it off! Yum yum yum! Our drinks was the Peaches For Me that was creamy and refreshing with a surprise peach slice at the end! As predicted, 99% hipsters. BUT even that couldn't deny the fact that the food is borderline magical. I've NEVER had a Greek omelette so fresh in my life. The olives are insane and the infusion of Pine Nuts is God sent. The Feta tastes like it was flown in from the mountains of Greece. My finances food matched, if not topped mine. It's all she has talked about since. My recommendation is to put your hair into a man bun, or wear a flannel and an oversized beanie (in my case) and charge up the electric vehicle and go there. Love the decor and the food! Everything on the menu looks delicious and everything we tried was. The mushroom omelet was packed with mushrooms and cheese. The Petoskey was surprisingly awesome. I have never had dried cherries in an omelet before and it was delicious with the bacon and the cheese. The cheesy grits and the homestyle potatoes were great sides. The best savory breakfast item was the huevos rancheros. Definitely get that if you are thinking about it. The B Street french toast was pretty great as well. The bread is deep fried and covered with bacon pieces, banana slices, and powdered sugar. Overall, the breakfast is FANTASTIC. The food is delicious and the service was great. The bathrooms were a great topic of discussion because they are not clearly marked with male and female markers. We went over to the Flytrap on a Sunday for brunch, but the line was kinda long and weren't quoted a wait, so we walked over to Toast. Quoted 40mins for 4ppl, decided to do the wait. Chicken and waffle benny ($12) - 4 stars. The chicken was crackly-crisp & flavorful, would get again. Nova Scotia benny ($12) - 3.5 stars Corned beef hash ($11) - 3.75 stars. Shredded chunks of corned beef. I'm more partial towards crispy hashes tbh, but we all enjoyed this. Would've been better if the potatoes were smaller or prepared differently than their standard homefries. Parisian omelette ($10) - 3.75 stars. On the small side, still a really good spinach omelette. Petosky omelette ($10) - 3.5 stars. First time trying an omelette with cherries inside xD Did like, but I liked the Parisian more. Solid 4 stars. The service was friendly, and the food arrived in a timely fashion. Liked the look of their menu, that it made an effort to branch out a bit from the standard breakfast joint. We really enjoyed our brunch at Toast this morning. I'd been a time or two, but it's been awhile. I got a giftcard as a birthday present, so Boyfriend and I decided to venture down to Toast for brunch before hitting up Pig & Whiskey for day 2. Toast on a whim on a Saturday at 10:30 was pretty bold, but despite the place being packed, we only waited 10 minutes for a table. We started with french press Maple Bacon coffee, and it was delicious (warning: it's pretty strong). The taste is just the right amount of sweet. A cute little detail, they serve their coffee in eclectic random mugs. I liked it. Ordering was a challenge since everything on the menu looks awesome. Really. I ultimately ended up with the Beet Goes On Omelette, and Boyfriend ordered the Cure, which is a green chili-gravy-home fries situation. Both were really delicious. I also ordered home fries and toast with peanut butter. My omelette was great: original, fresh tasting, awesome. The homefries are roasted red potatoes. Even the toast was delicious. The Cure was also seriously good (Boyfriend's a generous sharer). Both our orders inspired us to order a Bloody Mary to split. The menu boasts 14 "mystery spices" in the Bloody Mary, and it was definitely good. They put a decent amount of lemon in their Bloody Marys. Love when I try a new place & I'm so blown away by their food that I can't wait to write a 5 star review for them. Toast won me over just like that! So many delicious sounding choices on their menu but eventually I settled on the Petosky Omelette with Brie, caramelized onions, cherries & bacon. I opted for crispy cheese grits over home fries & since one of my toast options was called 'amazing cinnamon' bread, how could I not choose that? Although another toast option is jalapeño cheddar bread - next time! My omelette was pure perfection! Those cherries were a little tart & sweet pairing perfectly with both the Brie and bacon. The grits came with a wafer of crusty cheese on top that was almost like breaking the top of a creme brûlée. It gave the grits an initial crunch followed by chewy cheese that was pretty incredible. And the cinnamon toast was amazing, just like its name. My husband ordered the Spicy Cali Omelette and my daughter got the Apple Streusel French Toast. Both were outstanding, as well. I visited this location twice and each time I really enjoyed myself. Toast does breakfast right! The food is fantastic and the service is great too. The staff is friendly and accommodating. My only issue with this location is the size. It's really small, so often times you are going to have to wait a bit before you are seated. Other than that, this place is great! I'll start by saying I prefer Toast Ferndale over Toast Birmingham, not that there is anything wrong with either. Actually, I prefer Ferndale over Birmingham generally. Toast Ferndale is only open for breakfast and lunch and is smaller and more quaint. The breakfasts are delicious and I've never moved past them into the lunch arena. My last trip to Toast was with my parents. I had an omelet which was delicious. I normally get the fried potatoes, but this time I tried the cheese grits. Both were very delicious and its difficult to decide which I prefer. My mother had the grilled cheese and raved about it. She even said that the grilled cheese was better than the grilled cheese served at Cafe Muse. She said it wasn't greasy at all, but had a great taste and flavor. I love that Toast always serves unique specials every day. It's a charming place to eat and I get there often. On the Weekends there can be a long wait for a table. I recommend going during the week. My friends and I do exactly that for Fancy Breakfast Thursday (FBT) and we're never disappointed with Toast. read more

YUM! I came here for brunch with a friend Saturday morning, I had been to the Birmingham location before but never have eaten here at the Ferndale location. They were able to seat us right away which was fantastic because I was starving. The chicken & waffles were BOMB. I have lived in Atlanta where they know how to make southern food and what I had at Toast definitely reminded me of that. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was crispy and hot, with the waffles melting in your mouth. I'm not a huge gravy person (gravy comes on top) but they were more than willing to put it on the side. This was quality stuff, and for the price ($12 I believe) you really can't beat it. It's worth every penny and you're more than likely to have some leftovers to take home. There are a lot of good brunch places in Ferndale, so definitely add this to the rotation. I have been coming to toast for a while, and while still good things have changed recently. The food is different and just doesn't have the same flavor it used to have. Last time I was there I had the Monkey Cakes and my friend had an omelette with home fries and I had the delicious banana coffee. While still good, it just isn't as good as it was. My friends and I came here for brunch and it was delectable! The omelette selection was great - I had the Greek omelette and it was just the right amount of heartiness. My friends had various versions of the eggs Benedict and the avocado toast which were all good too! Definitely try as many types of bread as possible while you're here, they are all unique and delicious! We had to wait about 1 hour and parking wasn't easy to find on a Sunday, so beware of that. And there is no electronic system set up, so they take your name but you need to physically walk back to the restaurant every 30-45 min to see where your spot is in line. read more
