YUM! I came here for brunch with a friend Saturday morning, I had been to the Birmingham location before but never have eaten here at the Ferndale location. They were able to seat us right away which was fantastic because I was starving. The chicken & waffles were BOMB. I have lived in Atlanta where they know how to make southern food and what I had at Toast definitely reminded me of that. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was crispy and hot, with the waffles melting in your mouth. I'm not a huge gravy person (gravy comes on top) but they were more than willing to put it on the side. This was quality stuff, and for the price ($12 I believe) you really can't beat it. It's worth every penny and you're more than likely to have some leftovers to take home. There are a lot of good brunch places in Ferndale, so definitely add this to the rotation. It's more expensive, but for the chicken & waffles especially it's worth it. read more

Awesome bloody Mary's were had at toast! Probably some of the beat ever had. Just the right amount of spiciness. And the food was super complimentary to the drinks. I had a Philly cheesesteak omelet that had a cheese mornay sauce covering it while my partner had the trashy hashy. The zip potatoes that came with my omelet were ah-mazing. And the toast...oh, the toast. So many to choose from! Be prepared to wait in line if you are visiting on a weekend. We rolled in about noon, thinking we would miss a majority of the Saturday brunch crowd...we still waited about 45 minutes. The area to wait is a very cramped hallway in the back of the restaurant. I have been coming to toast for a while, and while still good things have changed recently. The food is different and just doesn't have the same flavor it used to have. Last time I was there I had the Monkey Cakes and my friend had an omelette with home fries and I had the delicious banana coffee. While still good, it just isn't as good as it was. We started with the banana bread coffee made by white pine coffee and it was so good we bought a bag to go. We ordered the strawberry French toast smothered with captain crunch cereal and it was out of this word. Toast has a lot of good options-- which range in tastiness but are overall good with decent prices. I've been to the Birmingham location (bigger, more of a fancy/classy vibe) a few times but this was my first time at the Ferndale location (smaller, not so fancy but still fun with whimsical graffiti walls). The staff has been helpful & really friendly in both locations. Their sweet breakfast items are delicious and the omelettes are pretty good too.. but last I went I got the breakfast burrito which was good (but I like a little more flavor). I also shared the Nova Scotia w/ a friend, which is egg (over-easy but my friend requested scrambled instead) & salmon over bread-- it would've been really good had it not been so damn salty! Still can't get it right. I ordered the $12 Turkey Avocado sandwich that comes with sprouts, tomato and swiss cheese. Ridicusoulsy the sandwich only had turkey, tomato and swiss cheese there was NO avocado as listed in the title of the damn sandwhich or sprouts. I dined I'm at Toast restaurant not too long ago. My friends and I decided to go and planned for a Saturday late morning, which of course is probably the busiest time for this restaurant. We waited about two hours to be seated, but we knew going in there would be long wait, so it wasn't too bad. Once we were seated, we were very hungry by that time of course! I ended up ordered the Petoskey Omelette w/ Brie, bacon, caramelized onions, and dried cherries. The Brie cheese and the cherries added so much flavor. It was delicious! My favorite spot for breakfast! I'm so lucky it's so close to home. My food is always cooked great. I haven't tried their cheese grits yet but that's only because I can't imagine not ordering their delicious home fries! I love the vibe and decor in there. "Gloriously breakfast" I call it lol. Recently, strictly breakfast/lunch (but necessarily brunch) restaurants have spread around Michigan, Toast being conveniently located on Woodward Ave. In New York, breakfast/lunch places are second nature, in metro Detroit, however, it's novel. The novelty associated with dining at a place like Toast in a neighborhood deemed Fashionable Ferndale, has clearly not worn off. The restaurant, although undoubtedly cute with its shabby-chic decor, did not cater well to my needs. The tomato soup that I ordered had bacon in it and even though I only smelled it and made a face and then complained, I was still charged for a soup which I could not and did not consume. More so, the service was lousy and the food overpriced. A much better and tastier alternative is the Berkley Breakfast Cafe (which also serves lunch and dinner, but their breakfast is the best!) located on Coolidge Highway. read more
