I absolutely adore this restaurant. We were told that there was only a 15 minutes wait but it ended up being 45 minutes. Despite the long wait, the food was delicious! I ordered the chicken n waffle benny with a side of potatoes. This dish was absolutely sensational. The chicken was fried in a very tasty batter because it was very crunchy. However, the chicken was a little over cooked because the meat was kind of tough. The gravy on top of the poached eggs was delicious and paired wonderfully with the dish. The eggs seemed to have been poached for a few seconds too long because it wasn't that runny. There was nothing special about the waffle. It tasted like a normal waffle. The side of potatoes were tasty. But there was nothing special about them. Overall, this dish was delicious and went very well together. Pros: Fairly priced meals with decent sized portions. Cons: Long waits for the restroom. There is only one stall for each restroom (one for male and one for female). At first I was a little skeptical about this place because it was very packed and I really don't like small packed places but, I had phenomenal service. Our server was very attentive. I was recommend to go here 10 years ago by one of my dr friends. There are two locations one in Birmingham in the original in Ferndale. I prefer the original due to decor, I like location in Ferndale better too. Bham is stuffy, this place has an eclectic group of nice people. Ok first the French press coffee so good all of their specials are amazing with flavors that pop in your mouth and the menu is robust. They have it all simple breakfast to more complex, great service all at a very very fare price. During the week they can get busy, weekends packed and this place is small so you could wait a while to get in to eat but it's worth it. First of all let me start by saying the food is really good ... however , this place is only going to get 3.5 stars from me. It is VERY SMALL. I would not recommend coming on a Sunday afternoon. Wait time was an hour. Which wasn't bad because that's to be expected at a breakfast spot on a Sunday Afternoon. They directed us back to the "waiting area"... which was really just a tiny wall area with about 7 or 8 chairs ... directly in front of the bathroom area. So if you have to go to the bathroom... be prepared to fight through a crowd of people to get there !! Also it's just a single toilet Bathroom!!! When we got seated and hour later we had to squeeze past the crowded tables to get to our table. I had the brotherly love omelette .. which I recommend adding a cheese to ... I added cheddar cheese ... it was great . The tater fries it came with were a little too crispy though ... I also got the jalapeño cheddar bread. That too was tasty !! The chairs were uncomfortable. My legs started to fall asleep towards the end of my meal . I would never come here again with a party more than 2 or 3 ... it's just too congested. There was 6 of us !! Hopefully the owner will decide to expand this location ... because it's just too small !!! Maybe next time I'll try the Birmingham location ! Maybe that one is bigger !! read more

I ate enough to skip breakfast. Staff was super friendly and in a good mood. The waitress even gave me a topped off coffee cup to go, which was perfect. We're back again! This time I had the Monkeycakes! These were huge pancakes filled with bananas, granola and whole almonds, topped with brown sugar. I also had a side of chicken sausage. YUM!!! It was my first time visiting Toast, recommended by a friend. I've been in the Ferndale area a lot and decided to see if Toast would live up to the hype! The place was absolutely crowded, and it is a smaller place (yet homey), it was about 12:45-1:00pm (today is Wednesday for the record) but luckily there were four empty bar seats for our group (and they were the only available seats). I'm not sure if it's the chair itself, or due to the fact that I'm a bit bigger, but I had to sit in the chair a little awkwardly to avoid sliding off the barstool, but I got comfortable quickly, so no harm no foul. Our coffee was nice and hot, a little strong for me but there's creamer and sugar for that. Despite the very crowded place, our food came rather quickly. We all sort of shared, It was all delicious, and I've included a photo of my breakfast burrito, the best I've ever had. I liked the decor as well, it helped make the place fun and unique. The price was also good for the amount of food I got. I've been charged more for less, so I'm happy about the price point. All in all, I would recommend Toast! read more

A solid place for brunch/lunch. I came for the first time at Friday around 9:30am. There was already a wait. We waited for about 15-20 mins or so. I tried the Chicken and Waffle Benny with grits. I loved the waffle. It had everything that I wanted in a waffle. The fried chicken on the other hand was a piece of chicken breast that looked partially fried. I don't think you should be able to see the actual meat if the fried chicken was done well. The breading was only on one side. It tasted ok, but to me, was not fried chicken. I wasn't a fan of the grits or the parmesan cheese crisp on top. The grits were bland and the parmesan cheese crisp tasted stale. I will say that their in house coffee was really good, so I recommend that. I will give Toast another try in the future, but I had higher hopes. read more
