We celebrated our anniversary at Toca Madera this year. It's been one of Houston's hottest spots since opening, so I was excited to finally try it. We booked through InKind to take advantage of a limited offer and were seated right away. Unfortunately, we didn't love our table. It was a two-seater in a semi-shared space with a long cushioned bench on one side and chairs on the other. We decided to stay put and enjoy the night. On the bright side, we had a nice view of the live entertainment. Food and drinks were solid across the board, even the complimentary chips and pico. For dinner, we went for a surf-and-turf vibe, splitting the fish and steak. Both were great, and the sides were tasty too, except for the mashed potatoes, which were overly salty and watery. Our server, Sammie, was fantastic ...attentive, friendly, and made the evening special by surprising us with a complimentary anniversary dessert. All in all, we enjoyed our time and the food but felt it was slightly overpriced. We would go back but not sure how often. Maybe I'll check out happy hour one day. read more

The ambiance was amazing, my water cup never empty and the extra care and attention was welcomed. Nothing felt rush. They have great recommendations and we had a wonderful evening. Came for brunch on a Saturday. We had a party of 10. The place was really dark and moody it felt like we were at dinner even though it was like 10:30/11 AM. The ambiance was fancy and sophisticated. Because we had a larger party they did not let us partake in HRW which was kind of annoying. The menu was physically pretty I liked all the details but the prices were steep in my opinion. However I do think the taste of the food was actually backed up by the price. I got the breakfast enchiladas and they were really delicious! I was able to try bites of my friends food like the patatas bravas was yummy and the French toast! I would say skip out on the sausage links they did not look appetizing and weren't notable in taste either. We got charged $60 for water.. and you basically have to pay for valet in this area.. like the pay to park is so expensive it's really not an option, valet is cheaper. I would say just be prepared to spend money here if you come. read more

The entryway and interior decor are stunning and immediately set the tone for a unique upscale dining experience. We came here on a Sunday to celebrate our anniversary and were greeted with champagne as we sat down, which was a nice touch! The lighting was very romantic with a dimly lit atmosphere, and the music fit the vibe perfectly. It was a bit loud, but we could still comfortably hear each other. Our server was very knowledgeable and took the time to walk us through the menu, offering great recommendations. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfectly crispy, and the salsa tasted incredibly fresh. I ordered a dirty martini, which was excellent. For appetizers, we had the tostaditas, which were very flavorful. I definitely recommend the short rib one. From the raw bar, we ordered the ceviche blanco, which was tangy and filled with fresh sea bass, and the flavors paired well together. Super refreshing! For the main course, we both ordered from the "members only" menu. (Note: We are not members, but our server mentioned that we could still order from it.) I got the lobster enchiladas while my fiancé ordered the wagyu fajitas. Both dishes were of great portion sizes. My enchiladas were filled with juicy lobster and came with rice and beans. His meal was very substantial and came with homemade tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and the wagyu. We also ordered the truffle mac and cheese and whipped potatoes for the table. The mac and cheese is a MUST TRY! It had the perfect amount of truffle flavor and was incredibly creamy. Definitely one of the best we've had. The whipped potatoes were soft, fluffy, and had a great buttery flavor. For dessert we settled on the brown butter cake, which they brought out with a sparkler for our anniversary. A bit overdone gimick-wise. I didn't appreciate paying $100 for three Listerine strip-sized pieces of alleged Wagyu steak. The gimmick is one of the cooks comes to cook it tableside. The problem is the strips are so thin, they cook through right away. They taste just like salisbury steak from school lunch. It's more about the presentation. So if you like an ostentatious show for everyone else to be looking at you, this might be for you. For me it was a bit embarrassing, and I didn't even get to enjoy the steak. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Very well decorated, beautiful tropical and romantic ambiance. This comes with the caveat that you'll probably end up in someone else's IG story or TikTok feature. Be warned. Overall I don't think the food quality is worth the price point. The restaurant seems to rely on its decor and presentation of food more than the quality and creativity of the dishes. We got the queso fundido to start, the lobster enchiladas, and the a la roca (just a parillada with mid pico, mis queso, mid salsa, and mid guac) its only redemption that it was A5 wagyu which was very delicious but I would have enjoyed it just as much, if not more at any local mexican restaurant. the server was nice but overall ignored my boyfriend and only addressed me which i thought was rude and disrespectful to him. The decor was very cool, but the extremely loud DJ (who hires a DJ for a steakhouse??) kind of killed the vibe. I would give this place 3 stars but the thing that really killed it for me is the 2 guys working the door (june 20) were checking out every single woman who walked by (including me) which made me and my boyfriend very uncomfortable. This was my first time dining at Toca Madera Houston, but not my first experience with Toca Madera--and unfortunately, the Houston location was nothing comparable to the experiences I've had at their other locations. Upon arriving for my reservation, I was immediately told that I was not in dress code. What made the situation particularly frustrating is that, prior to my reservation, the restaurant sent me a link outlining an extensive dress code. I reviewed it, and nothing I was wearing was listed as prohibited. I arrived in a button-down shirt, pants, and Prada sneakers. To make matters even more confusing, the dress code posted directly at the restaurant entrance explicitly states "business casual." Had business casual been clearly communicated as the actual requirement beforehand, that would not have been an issue. The problem is that the information provided online and sent directly to guests does not align with what is apparently being enforced at the door. I asked to speak with a manager specifically to address that discrepancy. Her response was essentially that the general manager has been enforcing the dress code and that she does not manage the website, so she could not explain why the online policy and the policy at the restaurant were different. That response was probably the most disappointing part of the experience. If your restaurant is providing guests with inaccurate or inconsistent information, that is an issue for the restaurant to own--not the customer. There was no apology for the confusion, no attempt to find a reasonable solution, and seemingly no interest in salvaging the experience. I understand and respect restaurants having dress codes, especially upscale establishments. My issue is not that Toca Madera has one. My issue is expecting customers to comply with standards that are not clearly or consistently communicated, and then offering no meaningful customer service when that discrepancy is brought to management's attention. Moving forward, I refuse to spend my money at an establishment that demonstrates such little regard for the customer experience before I'm even seated. Given the positive experiences I've had with Toca Madera elsewhere, I expected significantly better from the Houston location. read more

I've been during the day and in the evening, and nighttime is more of a vibe with a DJ & dancing fire show. My trio favs is the Truffle Quesadilla, the Noble Margarita, and the fresh salsa. I was surprised to see a burger and fries on the menu since they're known for elevated Mexican cuisine. Curiosity won, so I tried it. Started off with the Passion Fruit Margarita and asked for Tajn on the rim (equal balance of the Reposado tequila and mix and tasty). For the table, it had already came with some chips + pico de gallo, but we also added some plantain chips and guac as well (guac was topped off with some pomegranate and some type of seeds, nicely seasoned and chunky). For my entree, I opted to get the Noble Burger (it was cooked nicely/juicy and came with delicious crispy curly fries). There is a auto grat for larger groups of 20% and max split is 4. Our server was Angelica and she was knowledgeable and attentive. There is also a speakeasy bar towards the back of the restaurant near the restroom. We took a peak inside and it was actually really big for a speakeasy and plenty of seating. The restaurant itself is actually really big too and even has outdoors seating as well. Very instagramable. They had a fire dancer as well that would come by throughout the night for a mini performance. Came here for a weeknight birthday dinner, so we were a pretty large party. To start, parking is very limited in this area, so your best option is to valet for $10 (card only, no cash). There is a surface parking lot in front of EOS fitness but it's $5/hr and availability can vary. Once inside, it was a very lively atmosphere with an elegant ambiance. They had us wait at the bar while our table was being prepared. On the side of the bar where the DJ is, they have live entertainers performing dances with fire which was cool, but once we were seated at our table there weren't visible from where we were. I loved our waitress because she kept it pretty real with us when it came to the menu. While all the appetizers for the table were good, for entrees she did not recommend anything in the "land" section and stated she only recommended the "sea" options. I appreciated that honestly even if it was disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. I went with the salmon which was indeed good, along with my sides of Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. I topped that off with a passion fruit margarita which was also delightful. While what I actually ordered was overall good, in my opinion it was not worth it given the prices...this restaurant is definitely on the higher end compared to some other fine dining restaurants who have more variety in recommended dishes. Found this place through social media for its vibrant and date night ambiance. We went for our anniversary and even though the restaurant met those expectations, the food was pretty poor quality. I ordered the rib eye steak. The steak was over seasoned but had a very rough texture and the quality tasted poor. The Mac and cheese was good and their queso was room temperature and didn't have much flavor. The service was great.
