If you want good vibes and tulum vibes. I went here during houston restaurant week and the service was pretty subpar for the prices you pay here. The music is loud so you get a clubby upscale lounge vibe. The valet attendant was nowhere to be found so I ended up parking in the parking lot which also cost money. It was about $8 to park in the parking lot and valet is $10. So, either way you will pay for parking. They give you chips and salsa and that was great. It had a hint of cheese powdery flavor and saltiness. The salsa was mild and tasted fresh. I tried the hamachi as an add on to my 3 course meal and it came it had ponzu sauce and truffle. The truffle wasn't strong but you could definitely taste it. It wasn't bad for a non sushi place. For the appetizer I ordered the queso it was cheesy and you could taste the green peppers. You get a tortilla with it to make yourself a little cheese taco. I got the short rib enchilada. It was cheesy and had two different salsa. One of the enchiladas had salsa suiza which was a green sauce. The other was salsa roja which was a red sauce. I preferred the green sauce one. Everything was cheesy. For the regular price of these it's $41 and I don't think they're worth the price when you can get the same thing elsewhere and probably bigger. The sea bass fish tacos were probably my favorite dish. It had a citrusy lime flavor and the fish was cooked perfectly fried in the butter batter and it wasn't overly crispy. The Cole slaw and tajin really blended everything together. The toastaditos were also easy to eat. Crunchy and a good amount of the short rib. For dessert I got the tres leches and it was moist and soft. The strawberry flavor was mild. I also tried the churros they were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. It came with two dipping sauces one of them being a Caramel like sauce and the other chocolate. Out of the two I e noted the tres leches cake more. Lots of people come here for the aesthetic. They use lots of fire so it is probably a good time with a group of friends. They have a fire sparkling candle and shots on fire. However, they do cost a premium price. The shots cost $60. For Houston restaurant week prices it was a good value but on any other day I would not come here. It's overpriced for the food and service.

My first time here at Toca Madera and I have already text 3 different group chats about needing to come back. The vibes, food and servers were A1, we had Vidal and Ryann, felt like they were old friends of ours from beginning to end. Never had to ask someone for help because I swore they read our minds lol. Me and my husband, my girl group and my family will be visiting again soon and I'll be asking for Vidal!

Had an overall wonderful dining experience thanks to a fantastic ambiance and solid, attentive service. The food was largely delicious and visually stunning. The absolute highlights were the crispy tuna and caviar mini tacos, the beautifully presented ceviche ringed with avocado and pickled onions, and the piping-hot, sizzling fajitas. We also finished with a sweet, delicate layered cake that was as delicious as it was gorgeous. The only real disappointment was the tomahawk steak. While the quality of the beef was decent, the rub created a heavy crust that tasted bitter and burnt, which completely took away from the flavor of the meat. It was good overall stick to the raw bar, fajitas, and dessert for an amazing meal.

Toca Madera is absolutely stunning...from the moment you walk up to the entrance to the gorgeous interior, every detail feels luxurious and thoughtfully designed. The atmosphere alone makes it a great spot for date night, brunch with friends, or celebrating a special occasion. I visited during Houston Restaurant Weeks and tried their $25 two-course brunch menu, and it was an incredible value! Here's what I ordered: Starter: Mini cornbread with whipped butter Cocktail: Carajillo (their espresso martini with tequila) 1st Course: Queso Fundido 2nd Course: Chicken & Waffles (+$6 upcharge) Everything was absolutely delicious! The mini cornbread was warm, buttery, and the perfect way to start. The queso fundido was rich, cheesy, and packed with flavor. The chicken & waffles were crispy, tender, and perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. And if you're an espresso martini lover, don't skip the Carajillo--it was smooth, bold, and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the overall dining experience exceeded my expectations. Between the beautiful ambiance, flavorful food, creative cocktails, and attentive staff, I truly didn't have a single complaint. Definitely worth the hype! I'll absolutely be back--next time, I'm making it a dinner date because I can't wait to explore their full dinner menu.

I kept meaning to check this place out when it opened but the fact that you don't make the reservations on resy or open table kind of kept it off of my radar. Finally made it there for a Friday girls night and had a really good time. The dining room has major party vibes and while it was loud we were still able to hear each other. We really enjoyed the sashimi and hamachi as well as the truffle quesdilla. We also ordered the chicken fajitas which was coated in a lot more seasoning than I was expecting and did not love. Our server, Mohi, was great and my favorite part of the evening was when he served my tequila shot on fire. What a true delight. When I come back I will make sure to request a table that has a view of the roaming fire dancer and will skip the chicken and go with the much recommended steak options.

The food here was good. Expensive but good. Not great though. lol I had the beef short rib tostadas . They had much flavor . The shots were good and love presentation!!! The service was awesome .. great bartenders . The place was also beautiful

If you're looking for pictures for your socials, this place is spot on with ambiance. It's gorgeous. Customer service is amazing as well. Now on to the food. I ordered salmon with mango salsa and cilantro lime rice. I'll give it a 6/10 mainly due to it lacking flavor. The rice was good, but nothing to say order it again. Others in the party shared the same sentiment on their food. Drinks were good, but ice blocks take away from it. Lastly, be prepared to spend A LOT! 50/50 on me visiting again. Maybe sit at the bar fir HH.

This place has officially taken the top spot as my favorite restaurant. I am blown away by how delicious the food was, not to mention the beautifully sophisticated decor, great vibe, and stellar service. We ordered the hamachi from the raw bar, grilled branzino, diver scallops, and the prime ribeye with chipotle mezcal butter, alongside sides of seasonal vegetables and truffle mac & cheese. Every single dish was outstanding, highly recommend them all. The absolute standout was the ribeye because it was more tender than many high-end steakhouses I've been to. A special shoutout to our table runner, McKayla! She was amazing and attentive--we never had to ask for a single thing. Her recommendations were completely spot-on (she's a true foodie!), and she even knows how to take great photos Highly recommend this place and will come back!

Today we enjoyed Houston Restaurant Weeks brunch menu at Toca Madera with some friends. I was able to do valet and the service with that was amazing. So helpful. We placed a reservation ahead of time and were able to sit both parties together. The ambiance is breathtaking. It really is a wonderful experience to partake in a delicious meal with friends. I had the queso fundido and omelette mexicana and they were amazing! Both courses complemented each other. My friends had the ceviche blanco, vanilla cast iron pancake and tres leche French toast. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was wonderful. At the end we found out they don't split checks so just know they don't do that if you bring a large party. Other than that this was a great experience.

Wow! This place was outstanding!! We came here for a group event and they handled us perfectly. AMBIANCE: This place is absolutely beautiful. The vibes in this place gets you going from the start. There is plenty of seating and every seat is visually satisfying. The bar is also huge with a great selection of liquid appetizers ;) SERVICE: Superb!! Everyone was so great. We arrived a little early and they took care of us right away. Our server Mohi was very friendly and attentive and the team Host, servers and their great Sommelier took care of our large group effortlessly. FOOD: This evening was so delicious that I am sad that I don't have a Toca close to my house. We tried a little bit of everything as you will see from the pictures. Everyone was so happy with their food and dessert was a perfect send off. (Oh and the drinks were very tasty) If you haven't tried Toca Madera yet - you are missing out on great food, music and atmosphere. They had live music and even have a DJ on some nights. (And check out the speakeasy - if you can find it) shhhh

The service DJ provided was top tier!!! He was pleasant and made great recommendations!! I'll definitely be visiting Toca again in the near future!

Ask the Community - Toca Madera

How is Happy hour ... is it worth it?

    Yes

Is there entertainment? Music? Dancers? Is there a specific time for the entertainment?

When I went there was a dj and a dancer performing.

Does anyone know how much is valet or self payed parking?

    I believe valet is $10

What nights do the fire dancers perform?

Fire dancers perform exclusively on Tuesday nights during Toca Tuesday. Please visit https://tocamadera.com/toca-tuesdays for more information.

    Does Toca Madera accept cash?

    I believe so

Are you able to order/eat at the bar?

Our full menu is available for order at the bar. Seating at the bar is first come, first serve.

Is there a waiting list for people without reservations? Can you just walk in?

There is a waitlist for walk-in’s, but please note that we are typically very booked so a table is not guaranteed as a walk-in guest. The bar is first come, first serve.

Do they allow Walk in Or have first come first serve bar seating?

The bar is open seating and does allow for walk-ins but it is small. I'd say at best, there were maybe approx 20 total bar seats. If you go earlier you might get a seat but later it would def be challenging since a lot of people crowded to stand…

Can you come in medical scrubs?

    Gross. Don't.

How do I make a reservation if you are not open yet? Trying to plan a birthday for June 28th.

I made reservations directly off their website.

    When is it opening?

Toca Madera Houston is opening its doors on June 4, 2024. We look forward to seeing you there!

Even this time the GPS took us to an entrance that had us going the wrong way down a one-way, but we eventually figured it out I will say that the parking isn't all that great, but we were able to find a spot. If the parking lot is full you should be able to find street parking nearby Kanpai Club is a sister location to Handos. They share a kitchen and you can walk through an inside door access either. You can find the same cocktails and bites from Handos on the Kanpai menu, but there's also additional drinks and bites The bar feels like a Japanese Izakaya. It's a narrow space resembling a Japanese outdoor bar. It's intimately lit and well decorated. We did have to wait for two spots to open up, but that didn't take too long The bartenders were friendly, professional, and efficient. We went on a Friday night (fairly late), and they had two dedicated bartenders The cocktails were fun and were beautifully crafted. Most were served in novelty glassware. You can order classic cocktails, but both Kanpai and Hando offer a variety of signature cocktails. Most having some sort of Japanese or Asian fusion. They have beer, wine, and extensive sake list, as well as green tea and other nonalcoholic options The cocktails were tasty. The only one I was iffy on was their Espresso martini. It was poured from a machine and I guess there were having issues with it. The presentation was phenomenal. There was a roasted marshmallow garnish. The drink itself was far too Smokey in flavor than I like, or at least in terms of my espresso martinis The Yuzu Kosho fries were incredible. The flavors really hit the spot. The Okinawa Potato salad was both questionable to looks and and to eat lol. This purple mound of potato's had an interesting taste, look, and consistency. It wasn't bad, just... interesting and new Some tips: If you can't find this spot from the street, look for Handos. It's part of this restaurant Ask the bartender about the happy hour menu. And most nights they're open until 12am, but on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 2am If you order food online (technically from Hando's) you can get 10% off using code: HANDO10. It's located right at 19th St. and Shepherd near the light. There's a small angled parking lot that can be tight when people park along the fence. It looks like a cute tiny A-frame home with a few patio tables in the front. The inner area has about 6-7 high tables. It's nice and clean inside. The vibe feels similar to H-Town Brewing Co. but on a smaller scale. You can also sit at the bar. I didn't really like the high tables/chairs. They're not as comfortable. It was hot out, and there are mosquitos, so we sat inside. I ordered the salmon plate for steak night. The drinks here are ok, and since I don't really drink, I was looking for mocktail options. In this era, most places have mocktail options with brand alternatives like Ritual, Seedlip and Lyre's or at the least, something with juice, Topo Chico and simple syrup. The female bartender made me a NA margarita which was great. I liked that she didn't make it too sweet or too tart which happens with mocktails that don't have alternatives and are mostly juice or lemon. On the other hand, when I ordered a second, the guy bartender made it too sweet. I didn't like his version. For the alcoholic versions, they seem to have good cocktails, wine, beer and flights. They also have daily specials. Aside from the steak night, they don't serve food here. It wouldn't be my first choice of bars in this area.
