Wow! This place was outstanding!! We came here for a group event and they handled us perfectly. AMBIANCE: This place is absolutely beautiful. The vibes in this place gets you going from the start. There is plenty of seating and every seat is visually satisfying. The bar is also huge with a great selection of liquid appetizers ;) SERVICE: Superb!! Everyone was so great. We arrived a little early and they took care of us right away. Our server Mohi was very friendly and attentive and the team Host, servers and their great Sommelier took care of our large group effortlessly. FOOD: This evening was so delicious that I am sad that I don't have a Toca close to my house. We tried a little bit of everything as you will see from the pictures. Everyone was so happy with their food and dessert was a perfect send off. (Oh and the drinks were very tasty) If you haven't tried Toca Madera yet - you are missing out on great food, music and atmosphere. They had live music and even have a DJ on some nights. (And check out the speakeasy - if you can find it) shhhh

James and Christian served us the evening of our anniversary this past Saturday. I can honestly say it was some of the best service at a restaurant I've ever had. The ambiance was amazing, my water cup never empty and the extra care and attention was welcomed. Nothing felt rush. They have great recommendations and we had a wonderful evening. The truffle Mac and cheese was the best thing I had all evening. The steak is over priced to not come with any sides and the salmon was good. Overall come for the experience. Expect great service and good food. I just wish there was more bang for your buck as this was a pricey evening. Thank you!

This place has officially taken the top spot as my favorite restaurant. I am blown away by how delicious the food was, not to mention the beautifully sophisticated decor, great vibe, and stellar service. We ordered the hamachi from the raw bar, grilled branzino, diver scallops, and the prime ribeye with chipotle mezcal butter, alongside sides of seasonal vegetables and truffle mac & cheese. Every single dish was outstanding, highly recommend them all. The absolute standout was the ribeye because it was more tender than many high-end steakhouses I've been to. A special shoutout to our table runner, McKayla! She was amazing and attentive--we never had to ask for a single thing. Her recommendations were completely spot-on (she's a true foodie!), and she even knows how to take great photos Highly recommend this place and will come back!

I really wanted to give this place a 5:5 stars, but it is a bit overhyped from my experience. Appetizers, drinks, and the food were fantastic (props to the chefs), it is rare to find food that amounts to the price value asked for. Ambiance was dark & well-lit, perfect for my bday party, I enjoyed the aesthetic of the entire restaurant--bougie/chic. I was upset at the $40 charge for cutting my birthday cake (it would've been nice to know prior). Our server was appropriate, but our food-runner was HILARIOUS, he interacted more with us than our waiter or anyone else who welcomed us. I forgot his name but he remembers us, the CHIHUAHUA CHEESE table, he went out his way to see if the cheese used was from Mexico (as stated on the menu) turns out Wisconsin tastes just as cheesy.

I'll start by saying that my friend had a good time for her birthday. So that's good. I wouldn't say it was a bad experience but the customer service really lacked. It's not a place you go if you have questions or want suggestions for even wanted to be treated nice. You better already know what you want when you get there because the waitresses or maybe just my waitress wasn't helpful at all. She was a bit abrasive when I asked her questions about what I should order and even what were the favorites in the restaurant. I felt like she treated us like she didn't care...but like I said my friend enjoyed her birthday so that's good.

VALET IS THE WORST PART!! Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. The space and overall vibe are top-notch. That said, the drink service was frustratingly slow. Even with the restaurant less than half full, it took 20+ minutes to get drinks--and the same delay happened when we ordered a second round during the meal. At these prices, faster service would definitely lead to ordering more. Speaking of pricing... $450 for 4 people having just two rounds of drinks and appetizers felt excessive. The biggest downside, though, is the valet. There's no option to self-park, so you're forced to use it. The pricing isn't transparent--what's listed as $15 ends up closer to $20 with fees, and they only accept credit cards (while still charging a service fee). On top of that, the process is inefficient and the staff came off as rude. Even requesting the car in advance didn't help, and we were told to walk to another area to retrieve it. Overall: great ambiance and people inside, but slow drink service, high prices, and a frustrating valet experience would make me think twice about coming back.

I wish I would've captured more pictures of the restaurant. Been there a total of three times every time has been excellent. The food is really really good. The ambience is studying. The place is beautiful. Come dress to impress very very comfortable and just an amazing food experience. I definitely recommend the fajitas. And get a variety of appetizer some of the best in the city you can't go wrong. This is a great place. Try it out please and the service is very very good. Also, parking is a little tricky so you kinda gotta watch that if you don't want to valet, there is paid parking in the back but beyond that it's a great restaurant.

I have visited Scottsdale a few times in the past couple of years, and Toca Madera has been on my to do list. Well, now they are in Houston with their third and largest location. I was more than excited to finally check them out for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations weeks in advance and had just a slight wait once we arrived. Parking options are valet or a paid parking lot behind the restaurant. If I remember correctly, valet ends up being cheaper and more convenient. First impressions just walking up was how sexy this place was from the patio to the entrance. Once I walked inside, I was immediately impressed by everything from the look of the place to the overall ambience and vibe. It definitely screams fine dining. From the minute we walked in until the time we walked out, we received great customer service. I wish I knew our servers name, but I'm not sure we ever got it. He, along with a wonderful team of folks helped us throughout. Not only are you dining nice, you are also entertained throughout dinner. From other reviews, some say they didn't get that, but we had a beautiful performer doing things with fire while another talented young man played electric guitar walking around the restaurant. On top of that, birthday celebrations had sparklers, while flaming shots and drinks were being lit in all directions. It got just a tad bit stuffy in there at one point from all the fire. Between my friends and I, we tried quite a few different drinks. I started off with a Carajillo while waiting on our table. Like I mentioned before, alot of these drinks come with a little wow factor. This one came out plated on a vessel that had dry ice in it which made it smoke when they added water to it. After I was seated I had the Ghost Rider which a nice, refreshing tequila drink that came out flaming. Who would've thought it? To close out my meal, I had the Scorched Earth which was a smoked Old Fashioned that came out beautifully presented as well. All the drinks were good, but extremely over priced. On to the food. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were excellent and elevated. The salsa was more like a pico de gallo, but it was so very good. We were ready for entrees and skipped apps. Most of the table went with the taco flight where you get to pick four tacos out of sea bass, arrachera (avacado taco), truffle mushroom, and al pastor. I tried to get my money's worth on these tacos and went with the fish, mushroom and al pastor tacos. For the price, I would expect some rice and beans, but those were a la carte. We ended up getting street corn, cilantro lime rice and black beans. The tacos were good. Each one had delicious fillings, but my favorite was the sea bass because the flavors on it were outstanding. It had a kick to it which I love, but some of my dining companions thought was too spicy. All the sides were excellent as well with the cilantro lime rice really standing out compared to the rest. We of course had to get some dessert for the birthday girl even though we were all stuffed. She got the Dama De Los Muertos. This thing was a piece of art. The flavor combination of peanut butter mousse, cocoa nibs and raspberry coulis was so delicious. Overall, a great time was had by all. Yes this place is expensive, but for the ambience and dining with a flare, it makes it kind of worth the price of admission. It it definitely not an every weekend meal for me, but I would come back for another special occasion.

The food was good (not worth the price at all). We got the queso fundido to start, the lobster enchiladas, and the a la roca (just a parillada with mid pico, mis queso, mid salsa, and mid guac) its only redemption that it was A5 wagyu which was very delicious but I would have enjoyed it just as much, if not more at any local mexican restaurant. the server was nice but overall ignored my boyfriend and only addressed me which i thought was rude and disrespectful to him. The decor was very cool, but the extremely loud DJ (who hires a DJ for a steakhouse??) kind of killed the vibe. I would give this place 3 stars but the thing that really killed it for me is the 2 guys working the door (june 20) were checking out every single woman who walked by (including me) which made me and my boyfriend very uncomfortable. If you're looking for an easy lay, the door boys (not men) at Toca Madera are who you're looking for. At this kind of place with these prices, you are paying for excellent service, which my expectation was nowhere near met. P.S. why did they put a bulge on the horse statue?

Nut allergy friendly: I had no issues while at our event, even with the desserts! Parking: Painful, we did valet for $10+tax. Can request car through an app when you're ready to leave but we actually just took our keys and found our car ourselves because they got pretty backed up. We came to Toca Madera for a special event, and I have to say, it was one of the most well handled events I've ever been to from a service perspective. Their private room comfortably held 75+ people. They set up four tables comfortably spaced apart containing appetizers, skewers and light bites, a steak tenderloin and sides cutting table, and desserts. Very intimate seating and good music volume across the room. The bartenders were on top of their stuff and made consistent, good drinks. The waitstaff were exceptionally polite and on top of things - and I've got to give a particular shout-out for James, who made sure we never wanted for anything from water to drinks to new plates. As for food, I would say overall that things were VERY seasoned. The sauces helped offset what felt like a little too much saltiness in a few dishes (specifically the shrimp skewers). Chicken Skewers: 4/5 nice and tender, good size Shrimp Skewers: 3.5/5 without sauce, 4.5/5 with sauce - also very well sized and a nice tender bite The Truffle Quesadillas were some of the best surprise of the night. Deliciously umami and rich (5/5). Beef Tenderloin: 5/5 with the chimichurri, they cut it like a Brazilian steakhouse to provide cuts of all types, and the medium rare was exceptionally tender Seasonal vegetables were brussel sprouts, nice and tender and the sauce was great. Desserts - the Strawberry Tres Leches was our favorite (4.5/5), very moist and not too sweet. The Oaxacan chocolate mousse was beautiful and also had a bit of bitterness that was really good (4/5). Churros were great and had four dipping sauces, of which I really enjoyed the caramel (4/5). The brown butter cake was the weakest as it was quite dry, even with the cream (2/5). Drinks were also really good - they make some awesome cocktails with mezcal and did a very cool show for shots with cinnamon bursting into flames! Looking forward to coming back and heard their happy hour is great. Awesome that they're on inKind.

Absolutely 0/10 for service. It was my husbands 40th birthday. We had a 9:30pm table. Showed up at 8:30 to hang out at the bar, didn't get the table until 10:15. No apologies or anything. The waiter was in and out within 2 mins with our order. We barely saw him the rest of the night. We didn't get a dessert and were told " if you wait one more minute we can get you the desert. It is warming up now" I didn't reserve this table 1 month in advance for a milestone birthday for such abysmal service. Absolute loss of words. read more

This is a really polarizing place. Just be mindful of what you're choosing. For the positives - the cocktails were good. The staff we dealt with were nice (though somewhat incompetent), and if you want to feel like you are in a party atmosphere, the volume of the music will put you there. Mixed - The food quality and value. Steak I had was well seasoned and cooked appropriately. Opted for the $18 add on "Colossal Shrimp". Seriously it was a single shrimp, about 3" length of meat. Waiter came by and I asked if they really considered this average shrimp colossal. He looked at it, asked "You only got one of those?" And then said he would talk to the manager. Don't know if he did or not, but never said another word about it, manager didn't come to table, and I was certainly charged full price for it. Negative - It's not a nightclub, nor a particularly well run restaurant. My partner's shrimp dish was overcooked. So was the same dish at the table next to ours but they returned it and asked to speak to the manager, and the waiter told them the manager was too busy to talk to them. -It's a 'mexico' themed steakhouse - with only two Mexican wines on the list. That's embarrassing and I asked the sommelier why. And frankly, I believe his reason as bad as it is - the basic bitches and oil and gas bros want cayman and screaming eagle and other overpriced California wines so that's what sells. Which really incapsulates the restaurant - it is NOT a place for serious food or wine. It's an entertainment venue with decent (and in some cases good) food. It's got a weird vibe - there's like 5 dudes decked out in all black with ear pieces walking and standing around like bouncers doing nothing (I guess ready to pounce on an out of control diner). There must be a market for this type of restaurant in Houston for out of towners and people eager to show off the clothes and so forth - but if you eat out for the food - not the place for you. read more

Food, service atmosphere 100%....until we went outside and realized after paying for VIP valet parking that golf clubs, computer bag and a firearm was taken from my vehicle. Sunday afternoon 12/15/2024. Contacted LAZ PARKING and the manager advised he would pull the footage.......That was 4 days ago no response since. Police reports have been filed and investigation opened to recover. My lawyer will draft a letter to be sent to their corporate address asap. read more

The service and ambiance are amazing! The guitarist to the fire dancer and amazing customer service! The food is mediocre. The glazed carrots and calamari are good. I didn't like the enchiladas short rib they were ok. The chicken Al pastor was ok and dry. The cilantro rice was also ok it had a seasoning that I didn't like which gave it a weird after taste. Went her for a small birthday dinner and they did not disappoint! It's a new hot place so waiting was not a problem due to the amazing atmosphere and drinks they offer at the bar. Whoever is the owner put time in the overall vibe and appearance of this place! Food was amazing and has many drinks and entrees that offer an extra special effect. I mean our 40 oz steak and shots were on fire... Literally! I would definitely recommend and will be back in the future! came with a girlfriend for a belated birthday dinner. the ambiance was immaculate. our server was sweet enough to wish me a happy birthday when I came in. we had the branzino, truffle mac & cheese, & calamari to share. we each had an agua fresca to drink as well. the branzino was tasty but honestly, nothing we had was worth bragging about. there was a bone in the branzino which I happen to bite into. I let someone know & they apologized. it's fine, it happens. I didn't expect them to rectify the situation but I do not appreciate that nothing was done to make me feel special for my birthday. can't say whether i'll return or not, maybe with a group. read more

LOVED my experience at Toca Madera Houston! The cocktails were perfectly balanced and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them light the Los Muertos on fire and enjoying all the flavors in the drink. The food was outstanding too, as was the service! Five star for sure. The flavor profiles of the dishes were fantastic. My favorite was the diver scallops. They were the best scallops I've ever had. I also loved the center cut ribeye. The hot rock kept it from getting cold and the server was great to advise us to eat it first so it didn't overcook. The fire dancers really added to the ambience. I loved the live guitarist too and all the beautiful plants. Such a good vibe. They really thought of everything. I can't recommend this place any more highly! read more

I had dinner here about two weeks ago. The ambiance was exquisite, spicy, and a spark of flare. Service was top-notch, the waiter was very attentive and brought a great personality to the atmosphere. I had the crispy calamari, crispy wonton tacos, and Shishito Peppers. The peppers were my personal favorite due to the seasoning sprinkled on top. To flush down the apps, I drank The Noble Margarita. A great blend of jalapeno and tequila. My favorite!! As for the Main dishes, I ate an American Wagyu with truffle fries. 10/10 is all I can say xoxo read more

Service was good and the ambiance was fine. The food however was irredeemably mediocre. I had the tuna tacos and the guacamole for my appetizers. The tuna had absolutely no flavor, extremely mundane. The guacamole was average at best probably chipotle level. The worst part was the price. 32 dollars for three tacos that had absolutely no flavor. My main dish was the prawns which was okay. It wasn't as bad as the appetizers but still, for 66 dollars you would expect something redeemable. Don't eat at this place there are so many good Mexican restaurants in Houston and this is not worth an iota of your time. read more

Stunning building. Atmosphere is perfect for a vibe-y night out in Houston. Host staff were friendly and helpful. But, overall it was an only okay experience. I celebrated my birthday with my girlfriend and wasn't exactly what we were expecting. Food was good, 8/10. We had reservations for 11:30pm, and I understand it's late on a busy Saturday night, but soon after we get seated our server sternly says last call for food is in 10 minutes. He doesn't exactly rush us, but it's certainly not a comfortable situation for the guest paying at least $100 a person. Each round of drinks took at least 15 minutes to reach us, and obviously had corners cut. Even the server seemed shocked the bartender replaced the default garnish with a ball of crushed ice on top of the drink. AFTER we finished our apps, our entree took roughly 45 minutes to come out. Server said the kitchen lost our ticket. Reasonable... I guess. My biggest ick of the night was not getting an itemized receipt after I gave the server my card. The menu states a 20% gratuity is added to all checks in fine print, which is just fine. But when the customer copy of the card receipt says NOTHING about a gratuity and only asks for a tip, it comes off as very shady on the servers end. It's not the same as not mentioning it. Feels like it's trying to be hidden. Although, we will revisit. I think we came at the wrong time. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Came last Friday with a group of friends and we had a great time. The food was spectacular, the service top notch, the cocktails and desserts great, and ambience phenomenal. I loved everything, from the food presentation, the live music, the decor, etc. From the minute we walked in, I could tell we were off to a great night. I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised! Ambiance, food, and drinks were exceptional. The service not so much with one particular waitress Thandie, she did not tend our table and acted if she was a bit annoyed. We waited and waited for her to follow up with us to see if we wanted to order more cocktails/dessert & yet she still didn't pay us any mind. A girls night almost ruined because of the lacking of the customer service skills. You would think a high end restaurant like that would have the most professional waiters and waitresses but that wasn't the case in our situation, it was truly disappointing. read more

I've been here at least 5 times and my experience is always impressive! I recommend anyone to try the hamachi and ribeye for food. My favorite drink is the noble margarita extra spicy. I especially love the atmosphere, it's very unique, you forget you're even in Houston. I've never had anything I didn't like. The service is impeccable especially if you ask for Alaric. She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. Zaddy was being a bit of a clutz that evening and knocked over my $20 mezcal cocktail, so what does he do? Orders me another one! (That's why he's "zaddy") ....kind of wish he hadn't...so wasn't worth the price tag. Skip it. The chicken dinner was definitely the winner--fresh, juicy breast, crispy skin...don't be cute, you won't finish it unless your party has at least 4 in it! The flies were ruthless! Very annoying! They were acting like the geekers that come bother you just outside your favorite fried chicken joint in south Dallas! Our waitress brought out a table fan so that made the experience a little more tolerable. The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! I had the chance to attend InKind's first-ever event in Houston hosted at Toca Madera -- and it definitely wasn't your typical dining experience. The night brought together restaurant owners and top 1% users, with raffles, a spinning prize wheel (gift cards, merch, etc.), and a lot of effort put into making the event feel elevated and engaging. That said, let's get into the food. The ceviche came out with a beautiful presentation and delivered a sharp, citrus-forward punch. It leaned heavily on lemon, almost to the point of overpowering, and could've used a bit more salt to round things out. Texture-wise, it was slightly crumbly, but overall still refreshing -- think pico de gallo energy with a stronger acidic edge. The skewers were a mixed but mostly positive experience. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, though it leaned more baked than crisp -- I would've preferred a bit more char. The shrimp, on the other hand, was a standout: great grill marks, well-balanced seasoning, and a clean texture that wasn't overly chewy. The beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly medium rare with a strong, rich beef flavor, but it definitely relied on the chimichurri to shine. On its own, it felt a bit dry -- but paired with the chimichurri, it came alive. And that chimichurri? Easily a 10/10. Vibrant, herbaceous, and rich without masking the meat. One of the more memorable savory bites was the truffle quesadilla -- very mushroom-forward with a strong truffle presence. It ended up being my BF's favorite dish of the night. Sides were solid but had some contrast. The fries leaned salty, while the cheese on top oddly lacked salt, though it added a nice fatty, milky richness. The seasonal vegetables (brussels sprouts and artichoke) were buttery with a slight astringent note. The lime-cilantro rice was mild and clean, with a light jasmine profile that didn't feel overly heavy. Drinks were surprisingly complex. The "InKind Heat" almost drank like a savory dish -- smoky, slightly spicy, with a subtle sweetness lingering at the end. "Taste and See" leaned more refreshing, with passion fruit notes layered over an oceanic, slightly earthy smokiness. Desserts were a bit of a rollercoaster. The brown butter (bundt-style) cake had good flavor and a hidden caramel layer, but it was noticeably dry -- the sauces helped, but didn't fully save it. The chocolate mousse had a rich ganache center balanced by a softer outer layer, though the crunch element was a bit unclear. The clear winner for me was the tres leches cake -- light like a tiramisu, fruity, creamy, and most importantly, moist. It was a refreshing contrast to some of the drier desserts. The churros were also enjoyable, soft and delicate, paired with four dipping sauces (raspberry, chocolate, a cream-based option, and what tasted like a light caramel). Service throughout the event was excellent -- attentive, professional, and very polished. The staff carried themselves with a level of care that matched the upscale vibe of the space. Overall, this felt like a strong showing with some standout highlights (shrimp skewer, chimichurri, tres leches, drinks) and a few areas that could be refined (texture consistency, salt balance, and dryness in certain desserts). To Whom This May Concern, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention an incident that occurred during my recent visit to Toca Madera in Houston on Sunday, July 30th. As a loyal patron of Toca Madera, having frequently visited your Los Angeles and Las Vegas locations, I was excited to experience the new Houston venue. However, my experience was unfortunately marred by a series of unfortunate events. Upon ordering a round of fire shots, another waiter accidentally spilled them on us. We did not receive the shots, and when I noticed, I asked our waiter for them again. Subsequently, another waiter brought out a round of shots, but they were not prepared as fire shots. Our waiter informed him of the mistake, and he took them back to prepare them correctly. Eventually, we received the properly prepared shots, from our waitress. To my dismay, when we received the receipt, we were charged for three rounds of shots. I explained the situation to our waitress, Tiffany, but she insisted that two rounds were brought by her and one by another waiter. Despite my explanation, she continued to argue, stating that my account of the events was not true. The manager was called over, and the waitress continued to argue even in the presence of the manager. The entire situation was both embarrassing and humiliating, especially with other patrons looking on as if we were attempting to avoid paying our bill. Given that there was a camera near our table, I kindly request that you review the footage from approximately 9:45 PM to 11:45 PM. Our table was situated next to the DJ booth. I value the Toca Madera brand and the experiences it has provided in the past. However, last night's incident has left a negative impression, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. I believe reviewing the footage will provide clarity and ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon. PS. A Disappointing Experience My friends and I had high hopes for Toca Madera, an upscale establishment known for its menu and elegant atmosphere. Unfortunately, my recent visit was a disappointing experience that fell far short of the standard the restaurant's reputation suggests. From the outset, there were warning signs. Despite having a reservation, our party of eight was crammed into a table clearly designed for six. Elbow room was non-existent, and navigating plates, glasses, and cutlery became an exercise in balance and patience--not what one expects at a premium price point. I mentioned this to our server and she explained that small table of two that was next to us was already reserved and that unfortunately because the restaurant was so busy they couldn't accommodate us at a bigger table. The other huge let down was the air conditioning. The restaurant was experiencing issues with three of their major AC units as explained by our server but what made it worse was the lack of any prior notice. Our server explained that they had issues all week and yet I did not receive any notice of this prior to our visit. A simple heads-up before arrival would have allowed us to reconsider or prepare accordingly. Instead, we were left to sweat through our dinner in formal attire, with no apology or acknowledgment from staff. Service was equally underwhelming. Requests had to be repeated, drinks took far too long to arrive, and the staff seemed indifferent to our discomfort. It was my friends birthday and his drink took almost 45 mins to come out and only came out after we reminded three different servers. In fairness, the food itself was well-prepared and flavorful, which only added to the frustration--it's clear the kitchen has talent, but it's being let down by front-of-house mismanagement and poor communication. Dining out at this level comes with certain expectations: comfort, attentiveness, and transparency among them. Sadly, Toca Madera missed the mark on all three. I was genuinely excited to try Toca Madera after hearing so much about it, even with the mixed reviews--it's definitely been a spot to watch in Houston! But honestly, I left so disappointed. I left so disappointed that I couldn't stop talking about how horrible my experience was for the next 48 hours. Let's start with the positives: the aesthetics were absolutely stunning, chef's kiss for sure. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a high-end restaurant, and they nailed that part. Unfortunately, everything else fell short. The service was below subpar. As someone who's worked in the restaurant service industry for over 15 years, I was especially frustrated by the lack of attention and the server's overly pushy upselling. It felt greedy and poorly gauged, which left a bad taste in my mouth before the food even arrived. To make it worse, I was there for a birthday celebration, and the server did nothing special to acknowledge it--not even checking on us properly. On top of that, it felt like he was pocket-watching the entire time, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. Considering that 20% gratuity is already included, it felt like the server put in the below-bare minimum effort, knowing their tip was guaranteed. Speaking of the food - it was insanely overpriced for what it was. I don't ever mind spending money when it comes to food - but let it be worth it from the moment I walk into the door being greeted until I walk out with a: "thank you, have a great night, see you soon!" The dishes were honestly just average Mexican food dressed up in fancy plating with a little bit Wagyu here & there. Nothing wowed me, and for the price point, I expected much more. All in all, Toca Madera was mid at best. If you're looking for Instagram-worthy vibes, it's a good pick and could work for a birthday celebration if you don't mind lackluster service. My recent experience at Toca Madera Houston fell significantly short of expectations, despite the restaurant's stunning ambiance. While the atmospheric design initially impressed our party, the evening was marked by a series of unfortunate events and service issues that overshadowed any positive aspects. The service challenges began immediately with our server, who appeared visibly disinterested in attending to our table and, uncomfortably, had notable hygiene issues that impacted our dining experience. The cocktails, though expensive, failed to justify their premium pricing. Our evening took a dramatic turn when the fire alarm system activated during our meal. While we were assured there was no emergency, the alarm continued for an extended period, forcing us to relocate outside due to the overwhelming volume. During this disruption, which lasted until the fire department's arrival, no staff members attended to the guests who had moved outdoors, leaving us in the cold with our rapidly cooling meals. Upon returning to our table, we found our food inedible due to temperature, and when we raised this concern, our server's response was dismissive, merely pointing out that other guests had chosen to remain inside. Though management did remove the food charges from our bill - a gesture we appreciated - I was shocked to discover an additional $63 "Service Fee" on my receipt, separate from the $46 gratuity I had already provided despite the subpar service. The final total of $450.02 for merely ten drinks among three guests seems especially excessive given the quality of service and overall experience. For context about the pricing: three people, ten drinks total, plus fees and gratuity amounted to $450.02. This included an unexpected $63 service fee that was charged in addition to the standard tip. I visited this restaurant last night with a group of friends; despite hearing mixed reviews about the food and drink quality. I was prepared for the possibility of disappointment, but I was pleasantly surprised. While the prices are a bit steep, the overall experience made it worthwhile for me. Our main server, Jaime, along with Ivan who assisted, provided excellent service. We were seated at the bar due to limited reservations, but Jaime's great energy and attentiveness made us feel well taken care of. The food was delicious. I had the scallops with a side of truffle mac & cheese, and as an appetizer, I had guacamole with plantain chips. For dessert, I opted for the brown butter cake, which was absolutely amazing. My only complaint is that the scallops were borderline cold. They were not at all hot. I would say they were lukewarm, at best, which was a bit disappointing. The drinks were impressive. I tried the Los Muertos, which came with a sparkling show. Jaime mentioned he could add a show to any drink, but the Los Muertos and another drink on the menu come with it by default - very IG worthy. My friends had a variety of cocktails, all of which they thoroughly enjoyed. We also had some passion fruit shots that were quite tasty. This venue is perfect for a date night, with its dim lighting and intimate ambiance. It's also a great spot for a night out with friends. I'll definitely treat myself here again. FYI, when seated at the bar, they require a card to start a tab, whether you're just having a drink or dining at the bar. This was not a big deal to me at all, but a couple who sat next to us was so bothered by it that they left. I recently visited Toca Madera with my fiancé, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arrival, we were informed that we could sit at either bar. Since the first bar was full, we asked if we could sit at the second bar. We were then directed back to the front of the restaurant, as apparently, the hostess needed to bring us back. Fortunately, the manager noticed our situation, escorted us to our seats, and was quite courteous. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when one of the staff members approached us. Despite explaining that we had been escorted to our seats by the manager, she insisted that we needed to get the manager again, standing over my fiancé in a manner that was unnecessarily confrontational. I complied and retrieved the manager, who addressed the situation and assured us that we would receive an apology from the staff member. Unfortunately, that apology never came. To make up for the incident, we were offered a comped bill. However, when the bill arrived, the waiter was unaware of this, and what followed was both alarming and unprofessional. Instead of resolving the issue, security was brought over, and we were threatened with police involvement if we did not pay the full amount. When we requested to speak with the manager, a person named Matthew arrived, claimed he was the manager, and made it clear that he did not care about our experience. He insisted that we were responsible for the bill and had a security guard escort us out. This experience left us feeling unheard, disrespected, and frankly, appalled at the level of customer service. We will not be returning to Toca Madera and would caution others about the treatment we received. read more

Dining at Toca Madera was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The decor was chic and sultry. The outdoor patio was a photo landscape. The service was absolutely impeccable--attentive, warm, inviting and fun! Every detail was clearly handled with care, and the staff made the evening feel special and seamless. The food was just as impressive. We started with the guacamole, which was creamy and fresh with just the right amount of citrus, paired perfectly with the seasoned chips and vibrant pico de gallo. The ceviche and calamari were bright, balanced, and refreshingly flavorful. The sea bass tacos were a standout--bursting with flavor. We also tried the elote, which was perfectly charred, rich, and satisfying. For mains, the top cap and ribeye were both melt-in-your-mouth tender, expertly cooked, and richly seasoned. The prawns were large, juicy and plump, delivering that buttery-sweet seafood flavor. The truffle fries were decadent without being overpowering--a perfect savory side to balance the richness of the main dishes. Desserts were just as memorable. The brown butter cake was warm, gooey, and deeply flavorful, while the strawberry tres leches was light and luscious with just the right amount of sweetness. Toca Madera gives off major Miami vibes! Walking in feels like you're entering a treehouse, with stunning views all around. The restaurant is right across from Eleanor Tinsley Park, which can be a bit chaotic but is definitely a popular spot in Houston. We came here for a girls' night, and it was the perfect setting for our dinner! The service was fantastic. Our server was super attentive, explained the menu in detail, and when we mentioned we don't drink alcohol, he recommended several drinks that could be made virgin. It was such a thoughtful touch! We ordered some drinks and were treated to complimentary chips and fresh tomato salsa, which were delicious. The food was a bit overpriced for what you might find elsewhere, but you're really paying for the ambiance, which was amazing--so no complaints there. My husband and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Toca Madera, and it was such a beautiful experience from start to finish! The atmosphere was stunning, also very elegant with a Tulum-inspired vibe that made the night feel extra special. Our waiter, Rafael, was absolutely amazing. He was incredibly attentive, professional, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. He even surprised us with complimentary champagne, which was such a thoughtful touch for our anniversary. His service truly made the evening unforgettable--10/10! The food was just as impressive. For starters, we had the guacamole served with banana chips, along with complimentary chips, pico de gallo, so delicious. For our entrées, I had the salmon with mashed potatoes, which was cooked to perfection, while my husband ordered the beef short ribs enchiladas with cilantro lime rice, full of flavor and so satisfying. For dessert, we ended the night with the brown butter cake, absolute perfection, easily a 10/10! My husband also enjoyed an espresso martini, which he said was one of the best he's had. Update: I recently visited this restaurant again on Valentine's Day and was impressed by the exceptional service I received. I was promptly seated at my reservation time at 7:30pm. To start, I ordered the crispy calamari as an appetizer, along with a glass of Hilt Estate GL Chardonnay, which was incredibly smooth and enjoyable. As a complimentary addition, I was served tuna, which was both fresh and flavorful, especially with the lemon foam topping. For my main course, I opted for the Branzino fish, which was nothing short of amazing. The flavors were rich and vibrant with every bite. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, inviting, and beautifully designed--perfect for a special evening. For our meal, I had the Truffle Quesadillas and the Mushroom Enchiladas--both were packed with rich, layered flavors and beautifully presented. We ended up at Toca Madeira on a whim after another nearby restaurant unexpectedly closed their kitchen. Thankfully, the hostess was incredibly accommodating and seated us without a reservation. The first thing that struck me was how loud the restaurant is. With a DJ playing, the vibe was lively and fun, but it's not the best spot for a quiet conversation. We were welcomed with fresh pico as a starter, which was bursting with flavor. For appetizers, we ordered the ceviche and wedge salad. While the ceviche was a bit too citrusy for my taste, the wedge salad was phenomenal--crisp, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. For my entrée, I chose the prawns, served with cilantro lime rice. My husband loved the prawns so much that I ended up giving him two of the three, but honestly, one was just right for me alongside the rice. A big shoutout to our server, Nori, who was patient and gave us excellent recommendations. Her attentive service really enhanced our experience. Customer service is excellent, with staff who are friendly, attentive, and accommodating from start to finish. The food is consistently yummy, and their entertainment--especially the fire dancers--adds a unique and exciting touch to the dining experience. That said, the prices have definitely increased over the past year, so just be prepared for that going in. The biggest downside, however, is the seating time. Even with a reservation, we were seated an hour later than our scheduled time. For a restaurant of this caliber, that's a big miss. To improve the experience, I'd suggest providing real-time updates via text or even offering guests a complimentary small appetizer or drink when delays go beyond 30 minutes--it would go a long way in making the wait feel more valued and less frustrating.
