I spent my Wednesday evening here with my family. Waited an hour with most alcohol gone. When we were FINALLY served dinner my chicken came out raw. RAW. RAW. RAW. when we asked to see the chef/owner we were told by our server that he had recently choked out a customer. So we avoided that conflict. Our nice server tried to pay for our meal because the owner would not cover it. We ended up paying directly for the meal overall because the owner is a piece of trash. Do not ever come here ever. Do not give them service. They treated us like garbage and made us feel bad after the entire experience as well. read more

We should've read the reviews before going to this restaurant. The only thing nice about this place was the view of the river. We ordered for an appetizer fish dip and got about five crackers. We asked for a few extra crackers to finish the fish dip. When reviewing the bill they charged us $2 for five extra crackers. I ordered the salmon and the middle part of the salmon was not cooked at all. The only thing the waitress did was take the pieces of my salmon to have them put back in the grill and brought them back out. No offer to give any sort of discount. They also charge extra if you do not pay cash as a credit card fee. When we asked to see the manager about the extra cost for the crackers. The undercooked salmon, and the up charge for the credit card usage we were brought to an eight-year-old boy. Will never return to this place and do not recommend it. read more

The view is great. We have been here several times and the food is usually pretty good, however I was very disappointed this time. I ordered the steak salad and got a pile of leaves out of a bag, and some steak pieces or bits. A few sliced raw squash, cucumber and a little bit of tomato. The steak was tasteless. It used to a korean recipe. The menu said it was London Broil. It was neither. My wife had the London broil which wasn't bad. She felt sorry for me and gave me some of hers. Ate here recently with family. Just had a light lunch, small sample size, but food was decent. Thought the atmosphere was nice, too, so I decided to try it again for dinner tonight. Unfortunately, I never made it past the blatantly rude woman at the hostess station. She was unpleasant right from the start. Thinking that maybe I took it the wrong way, I persisted in requesting a table. However, she continued to make it quite clear that they were in no need of my business. The young man working with her almost seemed taken aback by her behavior as much as I was. I guess if you are busy enough, losing business from one family doesn't make a big difference. Personally, I think a lot of the problems with this country that make it increasingly unrecognizable come down to the loss of decency and respect that used to define "community." I chose, instead, to take my family to Pokito's, and I can't recommend it enough. read more

This restaurant does not take reservations or call ahead seating. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and wanted to go somewhere nice and romantic for dinner. I called ahead to let them know that we would be coming and ask the girl on the phone if there was anything she could do to ensure that we had a water side table for our special dinner. She said to just come at 4:30 and we'll see what happens. I told her that I was concerned that she would not have a table and we would have to wait. She said there was nothing she could do to help me but that they would take care of us. Not knowing where else to go, we arrived at 4:30 and of course all of the waterside tables were taken inside and out. We waited for 1 hour. There are no seats in the waiting area. Just candy shirts and kitchen towels. And an old desk with a printer that were covered in Domino's pizza boxes and trash. So we stood. There are dirty seats outside but we were dressed up. After sitting down it was explained to us that the meals come with two sides. All sides are $4 with the exception of a salad that's $4.50 and a baked potato that's $5. We asked if there was an upcharge for the baked potato and she said no that could be substituted out but the salad cannot be substituted out and that's an extra charge of $4.50. Definitely some logic missing there. We ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer. Instead of coming out chilled on ice like normal, it came out warm on lettuce. There was constant banging and clanging of dishes right next to us. Not sure why they weren't taken to the kitchen. They just kept getting thrown into bins. No straws for the drinks. No A1 for the steak. Their homemade steak sauce is spicy ketchup. My steak was ordered medium well and came out well done. Someone had made a fire down at the fire pit by the water. It was very nice, but the host took a five gallon bucket down and poured it on the fire and told the people waiting on their table that there were no fires. Of course logically I'd say then remove the fire pit or the firewood. This was just a very strange restaurant that's behind the times and has some very quirky rules. read more

We were a group of 6. Enjoyed drinks right on the river. It was beautiful! We got our food and one person had bones in their fish. When we asked to see the manager our waiter took her plate and left. Then came back with the plate and a child we were told was the managers son. The son told us there were no bone on the fish and they would not replace it. And gave her the fish back after it was away from our table for 5-10 minutes. I was appalled at this horrible service!!! I can't imagine how they stay in business!!!! read more

Great service. We went after a hike and they let us order right before they closed for the afternoon, which was so nice! The burger was great and the fries on the side were tasty. The trout sandwich blackened had its skin on still but was tasty in spite of this. Definitely will come back when in the area again for a post hike meal read more

My husband ordered the "Exotic Burger" medium. It came out looking like a hockey puck. My husband told our perfectly nice server and she said she agreed it was not medium and said she would send it back and ask the chef to cook a new one. She was back at our table with the same burger saying the chef believed this charred thing was medium and he was "passionate" about his food and refused to make another one. Our poor server felt bad and embarrassed to deliver that news. My husband didn't touch the burger and we said we refused to pay for it. She understood but needed to go back to the chef and make sure they could take it off our bill. He agreed but my husband left with no lunch. When we asked to speak to the owner about this, our waitress said the chef WAS the owner. This guy doesn't care about his customers, just his ego. Also we had to sit outside on the patio because we had our dog with us. It was a bit chilly and there was a heater right by the table. I asked three different employees if it could be turned on and each of them scurried away saying they would check with the owner because he doesn't like to turn them on in the day. When someone finally got back to me, the answer was no. So I was cold and my husband left hungry. My kids ordered spaghetti and it was plain noodles and a ketchup cup on marinara sauce. My take: the owner/chef is a penny pinching, ego maniac who lacks any kind of culinary talent and happens to have a restaurant in a scenic place. His staff is obviously scared of him and have no authority to make their own decisions and keep their customers happy. I feel sorry for them. At least we could leave. read more

We have heard nothing but good things about this restaurant. Sitting by the Toccoa River is so nice. The staff are so hospitable & professional. Jessica, our server, is so sweet & attentive, atmosphere is so relaxing & festive. We ordered the crab cakes for appetizer and they were so fresh tasting. I ordered the fish Pecan Crusted Trout which has won awards. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, and my daughter ordered the Shrimp & Grits.. eating on the back near the river is incredible. Ok, for all the locals, here we go! This is always a close, scenic, convenient option for a beer, drink etc. rather than drive into town, the bustling sounds of the stream, etc, make this a great place to go. However, the minute you order food, the ambiance advantage comes to a grinding halt. The food is basically tasteless, frozen, and most of time no matter what you order, it's the same. I have wanted to give them a chance after several times visiting to see if I had ordered the wrong thing. However, it is always the same result. My wife and I I ate there last night, we each had different things, steak, ribs, green beans, fries, all very sub-par tasting food ( my wife's sweet potato fries were good as well as the peanut butter pie we ordered). My ribs were boiled, my wife's steak seemed like it came out of the microwave, and the canned green beans were simply tasteless. I really believe they simply do not care about quality food as they cater mainly to tourist trade that will come once and never return, getting away with the low quality food. This place could be so much more if they were to ever get the food right! Sorry, for a drink absolutely go, for dinner, stay away unless you have low standards or simply do not care about fresh, quality food. read more

We had a party of six on a Friday night. We had to park down the street and walk in the rain to the restaurant, but boy was it worth it! We had been to this restaurant many years ago when it was just a small roadside eatery. We were very impressed with the new building. You must visit the back of the restaurant by the river. So pretty. Our party ordered three crab stuffed trouts and three pecan crusted trout dinners. All of us were very pleased. I am not a trout person, but I absolutely loved my crab stuffed trout, corn fritters, and sweet mashed potatoes. A glass of wine was $8 which is very reasonable. I would definitely order it again. Kudos to the hostess who was dealing with a very obnoxious older lady who was mad she couldn't be seated right away. Nice that it's next to the river, server was good but the food was pretty lame and small portions. Fries weren't crispy and the chicken on the sandwich was insanely small. They also charged us to have the Sandwich blackened when the server said it was an option on the sandwich but never said it cost more. Then they charged us an extra 3 dollars. Sad read more

We have been coming to Toccoa Riverside for 3 years. The food has always been great. This time things had changed. The waitress was not very friendly. One of our guest received a cup of coffee that had lipstick on the lip of the cup. She brought this to the waitress attention and the waitress brought her a new cup of coffee. The creamer that was supplied was spoiled and out of date. The waitress found out that all their creamer had expired. The thing that amazed me was the waitress never once apologized for any of these issues. My suggestion to management would be for the management to train their staff to provide better customer serve. Arrived a minute before opening and waited outside for the door to open. Pretty Promptly the doors were unlocked. The employee walked away. We remained outside to be sure it was open. The same employee opened the door and said we could come in. We began to enter. She immediately let the door go and nearly hit us. In fact it did hit our hands as we reached gif it to stop from nailing us. It's a heavy door. I said well z merry Christmas! About 5 wait staff employees were standing in the foyer. We stood by the hostess stand. We were asked if we wanted to sit outside. We agreed to if it was warm as today it was about 39 degrees. She said they have the heaters on out there. It was cool walking down the stairs. But the heater was on and we knew we'd be in a warm spot. She walked us past the heater to an area that was cold. We asked to please be seated next to the heater. We are older and thin blood I teased. This was an aggravation to her. Mind you we were the first ones in the restaurant. No one else yet. We were given paper menus that were torn and dirty. We waited for our waitress after gazing at the choices and deciding. Another couple was seated and their orders were taken. That waitress said over her shoulder our waitress would be there shortly. After ten minutes we decided to go elsewhere. All waitstaff was still in the foyer laughing and chatting. My friend and I went to another place in Blue ridge. ( great food atmosphere and meal) . We drove an hour to eat at TR and the animosity was palpable. I guess our smiles and merry Christmas greeting was offensive. We Blessed the wonderful waiter in Blue Ridge with a 50 % tip. Yup $35. Being in the restaurant business 13 myself, I just couldn't reward this type of inhospitable rude treatment to this staff I wouldn't mention the blessing we had planned, but I'm hopeful a lesson might be learned here. Times are tough for all of us. It costs nothing to be nice. This is a hospitality industry. Do better. read more

We got the fish dip as an appetizer then my husband got the lobster pasta, and I got a grilled chicken Caesar salad. They also had a doggie menu so we got a burger for Charlie. Well upon my arrival as I was being sat down. I was approached by an older man and told to not be on my phone as it was rude to other guest. I was simply calling my husband to let him know where our table was located, which I couldn't even call since there was no telephone service. Our waitress was nice and did her best to ensure we were attended properly. The food was not worth the visit to this restaurant. I got the pecan crusted trout which was as bland as could be. My husband got the smoked salmon which was lacking taste. Our son chicken tenders meal was sad, he got two tenders on the burnt side. During our late lunch you could hear the same old man on the phone (the irony) with what I can only assume another customer, yelling about not being able to do what the customer wanted. This older man even told them he was sorry and he didn't care if they wrote about him online. We originally came to the restaurant knowing that most reviews didn't speak highly about their food, but we wanted the views and decided to take a chance. 1. We didn't get the view as no seats were available and 2. The food was not worth the visit. "Ma'am we are a city of 2,000 plus people and we are busy like every other restaurant on a Friday night. Decide for yourself if you want to come and wait." He then hung up. The food is pricy and underwhelming. The outdoor patio was nice. The staff is nice. The food just wasn't great. We got a shrimp pasta special, smoked seafood dip, jalapeño hushpuppies, and a spicy chicken sandwich with cheese grits. I love smoked fish so I thought I was really going to enjoy the smoked seafood dip, but I did not. It was so incredibly dry. It was like putting dry canned salmon on a cracker. The shrimp pasta was pretty bland. Just boiled shrimp on some linguine and a bit of watery sauce. There aren't many other restaurants around that area, so I see why it's packed, but the food honestly isn't that good. read more

We arrived to the restaurant excited to eat near the river...asked if we could wait for a table next to it in fact. After waiting quite a bit of time we were seated at a table away from the river but we just went along with it. Our server took a long time to come over and speak to us and then took even longer to bring us drinks. We finally got our order in and waited around 45 minutes for the food to come out. Half of the order was incorrect and one of our meals was just never entered. We finished our meals just in time for the last order to show up at the table. Never once did we see our server for refills on our drinks and there was no apology for anything whatsoever. We told the manager about our experience who seemed to care less. When I went to pay the waiter hovered over me watching what I wrote down for a tip. I could actually feel hostility as I was trying to decide what to leave him. This is the first time I have ever decided to leave a zero tip. Not only did he make a rude comment when I walked away but he followed us to the car yelling at us as we left. As we drove away he was outside of the restaurant harassing us. The manager is a young boy who seems to not care how any servers treat their customers. Very disappointed. Group of 6 ladies came during our long weekend to Blue Ridge. One friend had a specific request on her $30 entree, which was not honored when the dish arrived, nor explained. As there was no around or no one checking on us, she began to eat anyway, only to discover the whole dish just wasn't good. Finally were able to ask about this and ask what could be done, but the manager would not or could not do a thing. Response was basically - so sorry, I cant help you, menu items cant be changed, too bad for you that you didnt like it. The setting is unique and beautiful. The restaurant is right on the river with about 10 tables directly overlooking the river. If the place was full, I don't know how much of the river you would see from the back row of tables. There is outdoor seating as well and a pooch porch! Service was pleasant. We were greeted warmly as we arrived and any of the crew that we spoke to were pleasant, and smiled. The food was good and worth the trip outside of Blue Ridge for a change. We certainly will return and try again; unfortunately, most everything was pretty bland. The stand out was the fish dip yet, even that could use some punching up. I didn't take a pic - but a white bowl on an oversized plate with a handful of crackers and sliced cucumber was lackluster visually. Diced red onion, some capers and parsley or paprika could add something maybe. Fried green tomatoes with mozzarella and marinara - no thank you: so ultimately yes they too were pretty bland since I ordered them without and there is so much you could do with them to bump 'em up a bit. The specialty pecan encrusted trout while cooked perfectly and was a nice portion was still bland; same for Gouda grits. Collards were decent. In my opinion the food quality is a bit of a step up for the area. Service was there too however lacking sort of across the board just enough not to give 4 stars. It could hit the marks though - LOADS of potential. It would serve the staff well if ownership would install an auto door open button for the staff going in and out between lower and upper levels. I would also mention that it did not appear that the restaurant is maybe not real ADA compliant- lots of levels and little steps and I did not see any ramps but again seems that way all around Blue Ridge. To be fair they may also have accommodations that were just not obvious to me. read more

I was a little scared to try this place after seeing some of the reviews but I'm glad we did! The food was great, service was spot on, and it has an amazing view. It was so good in fact that we ate here 2/4 nights we were in the area. We had the blackened trout, Cajun pasta, and smoked trout pasta.
