I go to Tofu House whenever I'm craving tofu stew! This location in Mira Mesa is quite larger than the Convoy location. I came around 6pm on a Saturday, and it wasn't too busy, but became much busier when we left. The menu is posted on large posters on the wall, and they have a selection of hot stone bowls and soup. Service is pretty straightforward, they take your order quick, and bring out the banchan and food quick, they don't really check up on you unless you call them, that's just their style of service I usually get a special combo (chef's special and bulgogi hot stone). Chef's Special has a good amount of seafood fillings and tofu! I laugh at the "baby on board" zero spice level on the menu, and apart from that there's 4 spice levels to choose from. The spice levels don't seem super accurate, I got a medium spicy and it wasn't very spicy to me. The bulgogi hot stone has veggies, rice and bulgogi, and comes out SO hot and stays hot for such a long time, I feel like I have to wait a long time before I can dive in. The rice also burns onto the bowl if you're not careful; I do like crispy rice, but the bowl is SO hot, it just burns. I do feel like their meat portions are smaller than usual, which disappointed me a bit. They used to put out eggs at the start, but they changed it so they bring it out after you order, where you only get 1 egg per order, which you can crack into the hot stone/hot soup for it to cook. My friend and I came around 5PM on a Friday. It was not busy at all and we could sit anywhere. The service was really fast and our waiter came around 3 times before we were ready to order (I don't think we took long, they were just very eager to get our order). We got four banchan sides: cucumber, fish cake, radish, and kimchi. They were decent. After perusing the reviews beforehand, I saw a tip to get glass noodles with the soup. I got the bulgogi tofu bowl and I wish I knew ahead of time that the soups come with either white or purple rice. I wouldn't have gotten glass noodles since the rice was enough for me. My friend got the combo deal of galbi with the kimchi soup. The food itself was solid. The meat was great and the soup did come with an egg. There was a decent amount of tofu in the soup as well. Overall, the meal was solid, nothing extraordinary. One small thing is the service is little off. Even though they are very attentive (checked in on us multiple times), it felt like they were trying to get us out of there as fast as they could. I remember being in the beginning stages of my tofu soup but they dropped off the check at our table. I wish they waited a little longer and then they checked in with our table a couple of times, one being after we paid (we didn't stay long, maybe 5 minutes tops after paying). My boyfriend took me here on our very first date almost 3 years ago and we've consistently kept going. I've only dined in here twice, both times with friends and both times have been great. The service is really fast and the food, while I can only speak for the vegetarian boiled tofu, is delicious. It comes out extremely hot, like boiling hot so my boyfriend and I usually let it cool down for 10+ minutes before digging in and even then, it's still hot. Obviously there's a different experience when you dine in, like when you first sit down they give you kimchi, fish cakes, cucumbers and a few more things but unless you request it, you don't get that during takeout. The only gripe that I have is they seem to kind of want to shoo you out once you're finished eating so they're constantly coming to the table, asking if you need anything, dropping off the check, and clearing the table so be aware if you go with friends and you want to hang out and enjoy yourselves while you catch up. I've always loved it here and have been coming since I was a child. Traffic and thus service had definately declined since its heyday in my childhood but it has never made for a poor experience. I came here recently with my date in the Summer of 2025. I always get the bulgogi hot stone. Food is very good and satisfies even a picky person like me. I am, admittedly, very particular about my Asian food but this place meets my expectations always and I find myself craving it when I'm out of state. The prices are quite high. The water will taste like the tap. This is not a problem, but something to anticipate. The service is very kind here though they are always clearly trying to turn tables as quickly as possible. A small anecdote: I once believed I'd lost my ring here and returned as the staff was closing. While I wasn't able to search the restaurant myself, the closing staff looked for me for about ten minutes and offered to take my number in case it was found later. First time at Tofu House and the last time too. Food is just OK, edible. The hot tofu soup looks like just water instead of a broth. I can make better tofu soup at home, haha. Not much of service. I don't consider taking the order and bring food to the table as good service. That is just the bare minimum service. Nothing is free there. Water is bottle water which costs $0.50. They would bring to the table 2 eggs without telling the customer that one is only allows one egg per hot tofu pot. The other egg is $1 extra. "Brown rice" is also extra charge. We were in the area and thought we'd give Tofu House a try. We frequent the Convoy location, and didn't know they had a third location aside from this one in Mira Mesa. With regards to parking, the Mira Mesa location doesn't have to share a lot with 10-15 other businesses so the parking situation is much better. This location is much bigger than Convoy. Way more seating and looks like they have a massive waiting area. I'm not 100, but they may have had tables outside for dining in the past? Looks like that's no longer the case. Service at this location is better. The servers actually greeted us (lol). They have QR code menus at the tables. If you don't want to go that route, they have huge poster sized menus plastered all over the restaurant on nearly every wall you turn to. I'm not sure what the thinking was in doing that... it definitely doesn't help with aesthetics in my opinion. We ordered one of our faves... hot stone meat party (for me) and hot stone seafood (for the wifey). The hot stone was good... it didn't taste much different from Convoy. The banchan (side dishes) didn't look super fresh, but had good flavor and we're the same we get at the Convoy location. Prices have gone up due to inflation. They also charge extra if you use extra eggs because of the egg shortage. They also charge $2.00 extra if you order brown rice for your hot stone. It's been months since we had Tofu House. I don't remember them charging for that in the past. I'm not sure if that's something new or just something with this location. This is a great place for food, but not family friendly. They don't have a single high chair and no changing table - we were going or go to a Korean BBQ place where you have to cook the food yourselves but decided against it because we didn't want the hassle of our baby being too close to the grill...only to find out we had to physically hold our baby throughout all of dinner here because of the lack of high chair. I can only speak for the chefs special which I got spicy. Had a good kick to it which I enjoyed. Had about 3 shrimps (2 head on, 1 without and peeled), 3 clams, cod roe, mushrooms, kimchi and scallops). I dont remember any oysters in there. I wish I knew she meant purple rice when she asked if I wanted white or brown rice. I said white but if I had know it was purple rice I would've gotten that instead. Banchan was okay, least favorite was the fish cake. Favorite was probably the cucumber kimchi. Also when I ordered water she brought out water bottles. They changed the menu. There's less options for the tofu soup. You get 2- the seafood or everything (which is seafood, pork and beef). They used to have a pork tofu kimchi one that I liked. Not anymore. The soup base is also super bland. My husbands combo soup was suuuper bland, like no salt or seasoning. He got medium spice. My soup was spicy and so it had some spicy flavor so mine wasn't too bad. The Galbis were good, had the combo. It's stupid that the combo only comes with the seafood tofu and not the combo tofu soup, so it's $1 extra for the combo soup, even though they are the same price on the menu. Not what it used to be. It has been at least 4 years since I've eaten here and I don't know what happened to the quality of the food. The price went up tremendously (as expected due to inflation and COVID), but I had expected average quality. I ordered 2 entrees, the galbi and japchae, and had expected it to come with a full range of side dishes. But for $43 and change, I got two tiny servings and 2 mini sides of just kimchi and cucumbers, nothing else. I love Korean food because it typically comes with a wide assortment of side dishes like kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, tofu cakes, mashed potatoes, cucumber, and radish. Needless to say, I was not happy there were only 2 sides. I thought, small quantity is ok, because I can make a pot of tofu soup to go with it. Dinner should be good. Well, it's good if you like to nibble on bones and greasy noodles! There were 3 pieces of galbi with meat on top but underneath was a pile of greasy bones. I feel robbed. $28 +tax for a pile of bones...It was nicely flavored though and I would've given at least a 3-star rating had the dish been less deceiving. I was just at HMart and should've bought the marinated galbi to cook myself--6 times that much for only $30! The japchae were the worst I've ever had. It was greasy and was mainly Napa cabbage. The flavor was completely off. I was really hoping to have a decent Christmas Eve dinner, and this did not meet my expectations. My tofu soup came to the rescue though, so not all was ruined. I selected the hot stone crispy rice bulgogi dish and was not happy with my selection. I'm used to bulgogi being grilled but this appeared to have been boiled and the marinade wasn't very tasty. Also it's very hot when served so make sure you let it cool off before eating it. I liked three of the four sides they served with the dish and the bottled water option was good also. There was no variety of banchan, it was too salty and the spicy cucumbers tasted really bitter/gross for some weird reason. They charged 50 cents per bottle of water and didn't provide any free water (not sure why). I ordered the seafood tofu soup and there wasn't much seafood in it. The soup also tasted a bit bland. Only 1 egg was included (they used to give a small basket of eggs if I remember correctly). The prices have also become too steep, I believe the tofu soups were around $16 and other non-tofu dishes were $20 and over. There was ample seating (although it was surprisingly crowded given the quality of food/high prices), and service was okay. Tofu House ... best Korean hot pots I've experienced. I was raised on casseroles and simple American plates, so this is such a change for me. I love it! I appreciate the culture here, it's opened my eyes to new eats and new ways. The employees have always been super nice, explaining whatever I don't understand and working so hard to give us a great experience. Thank you! Yes, I may walk away with a burnt tongue - but that doesn't keep me away. Uh uh. You've got to be patient while you eat here, believe me, your food won't get cold. This location definitely puts Korean food to shame. Restaurant was clean with plenty of open seating. Service was decent. Food was a huge disappointment. Side dishes were not fresh or crunchy at all, only the kimchi was edible. Typically, if side dishes are good, you know the food will be good as well. We ordered two combos and none of it hit the spot or good. The bulgogi did not look appetizing at all, looked like frozen meat was used, and dish was watery/wet, didn't have the seasoning or glazed like other Korean restaurants.
