Awesome Korean restaurant that I visited with my family while out in the area for one of my son's athletic events. After a couple of subpar experiences with some local Korean eateries in my neck of the woods, I was hoping Tofu Kitchen would deliver and they did not disappoint. Pros: -- Clean and Modern interior -- Friendly and courteous staff -- BBQ and Tofu Soup Combo: A perfect combination of Galbi and your choice of Tofu Soup (with spice option). -- Spicy Squid: This was my first time eating this and I decided to take the plunge after seeing a few pictures of this on other Yelp review around town. I love spicy food and the combination of spice with squid and veggies was excellent. The squid was a bit chewy but the flavor overrode anything negative about that. -- Sides: Excellent sides to accompany the meals Cons: -- Soft drinks served by the can. My friend loves this place. He swore that it was the best tofu soup ever. After having it, it's okay. I normally get white (I know, I'm a wimp), but this time I moved on up to mild! I only wished it was a little more flavorful, even my usual white soup from other restaurants seem to have more flavor :( Tofu soup seems to be just tofu soup, though they do have purple rice, which I absolutely love. It's served in the stone bowl as well which probably is why the price for all the tofu soups is $9.99. The banchan is super fresh! Yummy bean sprouts, kimchi, spicy pickles, and japchae. The ambiance is quite nice and open. It reminds me of a pretty lodge cabin on the inside. It's nice and cool, even in the Georgian summer, so the weather can't stop you from your tofu soup. The servers are not overly friendly, but I'm fine with that. Most are Korean immigrants that aren't super fluent in English, plus I've never been a fan of the overly talkative waiters/waitresses. Even though they have more than enough workers, it was hard to find someone to bring us our check. I almost wanted the little button that many Korean restaurants have to call on your waiter/waitress, but the space is very open, so it's not too terrible to find someone. I'll start by saying I don't know too much about Korean food but we liked this place. This place is close to home and we had been meaning to try it. We went during a off time, Saturday around 3pm and there were only a few other people there. The servers greeted us and were very friendly. We don't know a lot about Korean food but I had been craving hot stone bowl bibimbap for a while. We ordered the Seafood Pancake, Bulgogi Bibimbap, and the Spicy Baby Octopus Bibimbap. We had our toddler with us and thought she could eat off our plates, which typically she wants to anyway. They were sweet though and brought her out a small plate of rice and noodles before the food started to come out. Seafood pancake - different that what we are use to but good. Most of the Korean we've had has been in NoVa (Northern Virginia) and the seafood pancake were very thick and heavy. This one was thinner and felt greaser, I like both but they are different. Because this was thinner sometimes the seafood wasn't had together well. Spicy Baby Octopus Bibimbap - I've only had Bulgogi Bibimbap but I thought this one looked tasty. I enjoyed the dish but I will say the only thing I tasted was the hot sauce and the baby octopus was a bit chewy. My husband and daughter shared the Bulgogi Bibimbap, they liked it but I didn't have a chance to try it before it was gone. Been coming here for a few years now and I can definitely tell the difference in food as this place has gone through different owners. Tofu soups are much more flavorful now but the side dishes unfortunately has gotten a little worse. The portion of the BBQ (in a combo) is a lot smaller than what it used to be but it cost more. Highly recommend the ham, spam & cheese tofu soup if you're looking to branch out a little from the traditional flavors. All of their rice dishes are tasty as well. Lunch for one will run you about $9-$12 depending on what you order. It's not cheap but worth the money as you get protein, veggies and good grains all in one meal and it's pretty healthy. Overall food is good here and it comes out in a timely manner. The ladies working there are nice and friendly. But usually it's just 1 or 2 of them serving the entire place so may need to exercise a little bit of patience during busy hours. read more

Great ethnic dining experience if you like authentic Korean food! This has become another favorite "go to" place for Korean rice bowls "Bibimbap" and Korean BBQ beef (bulgogi). Been here at least eight times within the past few months. It's also a good sign when you see a variety of Asian and non Asian customers patronizing this place. My husband will usually order the Bibimbap (mixed rice bowl loaded with vegetables and Korean BBQ beef served in a hot stone bowl...the rice gets crunchy on the bottom... Yum!). I usually get the combo. Tofu bowl (mild) with pork and Korean BBQ beef (Bulgogi). This is how we share the beef dish. The service is always good, efficient and consistent. The tofu soup bowl was bubbling hot when served, and so was my husband's Bibimbap bowl. The bulgogi was served hot and it was really tasty. At any Korean restaurant, before the arrival of your main entree, you'll be loaded down with a variety of complimentary side dishes (known as "banchan") You're guaranteed to always get the signature Korean kimchee (pickled and preserved spicy cabbage) along with a variety of other pickled and/or preserved vegetables (the other side dishes will vary from time to time, but all good. Some spicy and some are not). The quentissential signature of an authentic Korean restaurant is if you're served a small fried fish (this place serves it) as a part of your banchan. Know that if you want more of any of the side dishes, that they'll give it to you (again complimentary). A thumbs up for this place! Thought I would update my review since a lot has changed about this place since its opening, and if things have gotten better, you deserve to know! I actually had dinner here a few weeks ago (context: returned home after a week of traveling, exhausted, and starving...so I suspect this influenced my experience as well). Generally, service is much improved because they decided to hire a server who is bilingual and actually talks to you (aka is a normal server). I feel many Korean restaurants are notorious for awful service. Having a bilingual server is an excellent decision actually because there are many non-Koreans who dine here. Anyway, because of this one major change alone, the experience has much improved. Their dolsot bibimbap is pretty decent and when you are famished, it is totally delicious. On the flip side, I found out I am now allergic to shellfish after I ate their kimchi seafood pancake. It's always nice to get itchy and feel like you can't breathe...lol. (Of course, this is not their fault and before I felt like I was dying, the flavors were pretty on point.) read more

We had a craving for a Korean seafood pancake so we decided to go to the Tofu Kitchen. We found the restaurant to be very cozy. It seemed like a pleasant place to dine. Along with the seafood pancake, we order one of the tofu soups. The seafood pancake was disappointing. It was undercooked and lacked that crispy texture we were seeking. Parking - A huge lot, but it does get packed easily. I'd go at non peak hours. Tofu Kitchen shares the lot with other shops. Space - Pretty small. If you get there at rush time, you may have to wait 10-15 mins. Service - Not too bad. When they get slammed, they kind of forget some tables. However, when it's not as busy, service is great. Food: I like the banchan here. Don't eat too much of it! They give you a variety of sides. Kimchi Jigae - I personally like this here. Rich and tasted delicious. The ingredients in it aren't bad at all. Although, a little too spicy for me. The Kimchi is ripened when cooked. Budae Jigae - Pretty similar to Kimchi Jigae but they added a bunch of stuff. This place is pretty good although they don't use authentic stone bowls for the bibimbap which means you don't get all of that crusty goodness at the bottom of the bowl! I ate the vegetable and fried egg bibimbap and despite my disappointment that the rice wasn't crossing as much as it should, it was still quite tasty. I was the only non-Asian during my lunch; the restaurant was moderately busy when I dined at 1:15 on a Saturday. The sides came out quick and they politely removed the fried fish when they realized that I didn't eat meat. I recommend giving it a try! read more

Easter Sunday and I was feeling a little hungry after sitting through service. A few church friends and I decided to hit up this place afterwards (my first time), and I was pretty pleased with what I got. It isn't that busy on weekends, and I liked the wood decorated interior of the restaurant. We sat down and quickly ordered, I got the kimchi and pork tofu soup for $8.99, which was a bit pricey for what I was paying for. They give you 5 levels of spiciness, and I chose the 4th one, spicy, though I thought about getting the 5th one, Death (shivers). They quickly brought out plates of small dishes like appetizers, and I really enjoyed the savory tofu and the glass noodles. Then the entrees came out. What an entrance! There's always something about food coming to you bubbling hot, with steam piping out. You should add the raw egg into it at this step, but I forgot and didn't do it until later. I'm terrible with eating hot foods (always burn myself) so I had trouble the first 5 minutes, plus the dish was pretty spicy for me added with the temp of the dish. After a while I got through it, and enjoyed adding the purplish rice into the dish. I really want to give this place 5 stars, but I need to visit a few more times to see what it's about. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricy, then again I'm not familiar with Korean tofu soup, or Korean food in general. But speaking from someone with a Chinese palate, it seemed pretty normal to me, perfect for a cold day. Definitely coming here again, I recommend it too! read more

The bulgogi was a tasteless bland ground beef stir fry which tasted nothing like it should or how I have had it there before. Something has changed. The service was good all other dishes were good. Tofu Kitchen is located off of Medlock Bridge in Johns Creek. As I entered the restaurant and looked around from the decor and the wooden panels everything yelled log cabin. It was probably one of the better dressed up restaurants Ive been to. I ordered the dumplings with kimchi-"death" tofu soup. Shortly after we ordered they brought out bottomless side dishes called banchan which consisted of pickled veges and a small fried butter fish. The butterfish was good, a little oily, watch out their are bones in there. The main course came up next which was a dish of sizzling hot dumpling with kimchi "death" soup with a bowl of rice both served in cauldron pots. The first sip of soup wasn't too bad, didn't think it was to spicy. Then as I kept sipping up the soup my senses started to sweat, it got somewhat spicy. The rice was colored purple, and it was a little dry. I dipped the rice in the soup which turned out to be not to bad. The review I give for this restaurant is a 4. I thought it was good from the bottomless banchan to the spicy soup. I thought it had a log cabin atmosphere with good Korean food. read more

I was craving tofu stew so we decided to give this place a try. The food was very average. Banchan was bland. The fish that came with the banchan had a piece of hair on it. We asked for an extra rice because the rice was only 3 bites or kids size. When the bill came, they charged us the extra for rice. Not a good experience, will not go back again. read more

The Asian soup craze is hot in Atlanta currently. From Ramen to Pho to Hot Pots. The latest I tried is Tofu Soup. You get the soup in a bubbling hot bowl. It is filled with fresh tofu, and a protein of your choice (seafood, chicken, beef, etc). Choose your spice level, but I warn you when they say spicy it is hella hot. And I'm one who has a pretty good tolerance for spicy food. Crack the egg into it yourself and enjoy! They also give the usual Korean side dishes which are always great. I loved the fried seaweed which tasted like kale chips. They also bring out a fried fish as a free appetizer. Careful of the bones but it's easy to debone yourself even if you are an amateur. read more

For what it is, pretty solid place. They changed owners from my last review a few years back. I don't eat tofu, but I enjoy all other Korean dishes. The banchan is fresh and tasty. Not bland at all. If love goes into the banchan, then you can almost guarantee whatever you order will be good. Cheating Restaurant Charges for What You Didn't Order I have eaten at this place many times and was so excited to bring my daughter there. She ordered a lunch Korean BBQ Bulgogi. She was brought the full Korean BBQ plate with has no veggies or anything but a pile of meat. I corrected the server who insisted I'd ordered the other plate. I persisted and showed her where I'd physically pointed to the correct menu item. Nevertheless, I was charged for the wrong meal, forced to pay for it, and the manager just stared at me. With all the Korean food options available around this area, I'm getting more picky about it. I am a little disappointed at this place. We ordered pork, chicken and beef dishes, the pork and chicken dishes tasted the same, the onion was way overcooked, it tasted like the food was pre-made and was re-heated when we ordered it. The beef was a little dry, I guess it might not be fair to compare it with beef that was cooked at your table, but I think it still should have tasted better. read more

The tofu soup I had was amazing. But the service was... ugh. I told the waitress that this was my first time and I need some help with ordering. She immediately turned around and tried to leave, noticed my shocked face, turned back around and recommended beef and seafood. (Amazing but the clams were very gritty so I won't get it next time.) When my banchans were served, they brought an egg but didn't bother telling me it was a raw egg. By the time I figured it out my noodle was no longer boiling so I couldn't cook the egg with it. It was hard to get anyone's attention as we wanted to add something to our order. When we finally did, the words out of their mouth was "want a to go box?" Why? We had just started eating... We ordered the fried dumplings. Took a lot longer to arrive than expected... I will definitely be back but hate having to learn how to eat an ethnic food the hard way. read more

So, my mom spotted this place about a month ago in the Korean newspaper. She didn't feel like cooking one day and I sure didn't feel like it either, so we decided to give this place a go on a Monday night. When we arrived I saw a few tables with dirty dishes piling up on the tables. It was at about half capacity on a Monday. We sat down, it took a bit until our waitress took our order. She then comes back literally three minutes later and asks for our order again. I told her that we had already ordered and she excused herself, but before she could excuse herself I asked for our waters once again. I got the bibimbap + mushroom soondubu, and my mom got the mushroom soondubu. Our food came out about ten minutes later but I realized there were no fresh eggs or a pitcher of boricha (barley corn tea) to stop our one bowl of stone pot rice from burning too much on the bottom. I had to ask the owner for eggs since our waitress was nowhere to be found within the five minutes of trying to ask for eggs. The owner explained to us that they were short one waitress today. She then asked me if I wanted my own saliva ridden soup reheated. Ehh... I'll pass. So I tried to manage to cook my egg somewhat in my soup that wasn't boiling when it came to the table in the first place. I asked for another glass or a pitcher of boricha, and that arrived five minutes after my egg. The bottom of my rice was black. Can't make my nu roong jee (barley corn tea mixed in with semi toasted rice) now... I don't complain a lot when I go to restaurants but I actually started complaining to the owner and the waitress. My mom complained a lot, and I've never seen her complain so much at a Korean restaurant. I think that said something to the both of us as the tofu soup was not good, the bibimbap was terrible and I don't even know how you can mess that up. What I remember about the banchan was that there were COPIOUS amounts of sugar in the dong chi mi (clear broth kimchi with daikon) and nothing was very good and it just had a lot of sugar in everything. Service is very very poor, anytime i need it tea/water to be refill, I have to call the waitress and they do not pay attention to their table always talking in the back by the cash registers/kitchen and they not even once ask us if everything is ok and if we need it anything else. I really enjoyed my experience here and so did Ricky. We went here on a random work night to grab a bite to eat since neither of us wanted to cook. I found parking easily, was greeted and sat immediately. Our waiter was super nice and sweet to us! The food was delicious including the side dishes! The kimchi and pork soondubu was delicious, the kalbi was great and so was the cold buckwheat noodles (can't remember the korean name right now). Our waiter was very attentive throughout our meal. I really love this place!!! I'm so happy this place opened up close by home. I am a big big fan of tofu soup and ban chan. I used to really love a couple places around buford but I really think this place is my favorite. They first serve u with a salad appetizer that has a sweet sesame dressing. So good! The servers have all been very friendly to us, which is a big deal because we are usually a big group of non Korean or mixed. Some things we have eaten: Tofu soup: very flavorful and generous. I have had the seafood, beef, combo, and kimchii flavors. I normally get mild or hot. All delicious, even the "death" spicy one. Comes with stone bowl rice. Lots of tofu and green onions , but the broth is very good. Comes with the tiniest egg u have ever seen Kalbi: not super fantastic, it's a slightly small portion but the flavor is good. Get the combo if unjust want a bite of Kalbi with tofu soup Bulgogi: the stone bowl version in the combo is super tasty but pretty sweet. I thought it went really well with The rice. I wasn't crazy about the hot plate version, seemed a bit dry. Ban chan ( side dish) : by far the best ban chan of any Korean place I have gone ( though my husband still prefers don Quixote's radish.) aside from that we love everything. The fried fish is fantastic and all of the other items have been super delicious and slightly different every time. Spicy cucumbers, jab Chae looking thing and the eggplant are some of my favorites. Even The burdock is tasty, and I'm not a big fan lol Bossam: boiled pork wrap. It was my first time having it and it has become my favorite Korean dish!! The portion is super generous and ample to share. Flavor of the pork plus their pickled items is perfect. I end up eating the whole thing in one sittIng... Spicy seafood bibimbap: actually really good! Different from the regular bibimbap but list of flavor. It's also a huge portion. Tonkatsu: crispy and thin! It's quite good, but I do think don Quixote is better. Still, very delicious if u r craving it. This is the best and most authentic Korean food I've had in the area. I come here consistently, whenever I'm at home. The restaurant is run and staffed mostly by Korean immigrants, who are incredibly humble and friendly. After seating, you are always given complementary appetizers that are delicious, including marinated tofu, seaweed, kimchi, spiced pickles, rice noodles, and fish. I HIGHLY recommend their soups and stone bowl bibimbap, I always get the bulgogi marinated beef bibimbap. They always include a perfect balance of rice and the other ingredients so that none are particularly overwhelming to taste. The rice is never burnt, even if I leave the rice sitting for a bit longer, only crispy. They always have lukewarm Korean tea, and the lighting is dim, but there's room for privacy. This is one of my favorite places to eat at when I'm in Johns Creek. They serve a variety of complimentary platters of Korean appetizers like kimchi, marinated cucumbers, bean sprouts, and even a little fried fish! The food quality is probably somewhere between the H-Mart food court and some of the more authentic places on Peachtree Industrial in Gwinnett but I like it just fine! We were checked on several times, and the waitress really catered to my daughter. FYI, they do not serve alcohol. The restaurant is very casual. It was decently busy with kids and adults alike. Typical of a Korean restaurant, they give you all the little side dishes to share. Their kimchi was underwhelming. The other dishes were okay. I ordered the tofu bibimbap. It was pretty good, but standard. Nothing stood out about the meal, but I wouldn't say I wouldn't come back. Prices are reasonable, and portions are large. Just remember if you want a drink, you'll have to have one elsewhere before or after your meal. You definitely won't leave hungry! read more

I ordered take-out, so I can not comment on the service or the facility, though the staff was polite and the interior of the restaurant more or less resembles a cabin. I ordered the vegetable tofu soup. The flavor was rich, but I wish the tofu had been firmer. It was very silken and I've always had a preference for the firm consistency, but as a ignorant white person I admit that I do not know or have an appreciation for traditional Korean tofu soup. One word of warning - pay attention to the spice options. While normally "mild" means an absence of spice, "white" is the lowest level, "mild" is the second level and the levels range all the way up to "death" (haha, cute, I know). The soup came with rice and the usual Korean appetizers (Kimchi, bean sprouts, fried fish cake, seaweed). The take out was well-packaged. Overall, I give it three stars simply because tofu soup seems a little dull in comparison to all the other Korean offerings in Duluth (BBQ, porridge, stone bowl) and I don't think I'll find myself rushing back unless I catch a cold or a sinus infection. read more

Drove by it a bunch of times and always wanted to try but always chose le mekong (vietnamese) next door. Le mekong happened to be closed and its rainy and cold, so we thought it was the perfect chance to come here for soondubu. (Korean soft tofu soup mixed with your choice of various meats, seafood or vegetables). It was really good. I had mushroom and my hubs had mandu-dumpling. We asked for very spicy, and it was very spicy!! That's a huge thumbs up for us! And they provided a lot of good banchan (side dishes)! And you get fried fish with each soondubu!
