Oh, this is such a nice departure from having to drive out to Beaverton to go to Benihana. The prices are better too, and here's a good thing to know about this place- at least TWO of their chefs worked at Benihana prior to Tokio Table's opening- Adrian and Maynor. We got Adrien, who we'd had before at Benihana and really enjoyed. So you're not getting a clumsy newb. You're getting a pro, who knows how to do it all. Who knows all of the delicious combinations. The fried rice is every bit as good (FREAKING DELICIOUS) as their competitor, the apps are too! The soup, rather than the onion, is a miso, which we liked the same. The main coarse was WONDERFUL, but the reason I'm not yet giving this place a solid five (you're so very close, Tokio Table) is because they do not have something equivalent to the Seafood Diablo. Get some Diablo sauce, and I will give you a five. We will be coming back for sure. This is a really fun place to go to if you want to have an entertaining dinner experience! I would even say this place is better than Benihanas. We came for dinner and were seated around the grill with another family. After we ordered, our chef came out and introduced himself. He was really friendly and funny, made everyone laugh. Once he began cooking the show was around an hour long but you don't notice because it's so fun to watch. The food was delicious and the price is really good. We paid $40 for 2 dinners and drinks. We came here for my Gf's birthday dinner with her family and it was perfect! This time we had Carlos as our chef and all I gotta say is this guy is dope as heck. He did lots of fancy tricks and I have to say Tokio Table should be proud he works for them! He is very nice and sociable and he came from Benihana's. It's always nice to have someone that loves and enjoys their job and isn't there just for a paycheck. 2 thumbs up for him. Our food was superb too and everyone there had a good time. Benihana's is overrated and this place is closer. The price wasn't too bad, but the awesome people and service there makes it worth it. Couldn't have had a better experience. Went here for a birthday dinner for myself and my father. We had gone to Benihana a few times in birthdays past but this time I recommended my family come here to try a local spin on hibachi cooking after reading the good reviews. And it was a great decision, because Tokio Table's way better. Our chef was fantastic and funny as hell, cracked a ton of jokes, had a few magic tricks and fire demos on the grill, and had a great flirtatious exchange with my grandma that made her laugh like crazy. The grilled food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I got the steak and chicken and both were cooked perfectly, and I loved the spicy sauce they include. The sushi was also very fresh. Places like these are a perfect example to support local business. They really worked hard to make us happy, and it was a great night overall. We will definitely be back. read more

Better than I expected! I'm used to trying out new places with great reviews then end up being a bit disappointed but this place was pretty awesome! Our chef had a great sense of humor and made it very comfortable for all of us (you sit with other people and there's a grill at each table). Their chicken fried rice is bomb! For the main entree, we ordered the Hibachi Chateaubriand and asked for medium rare - so good! Their dipping sauces are delicious too. Oh and can't forget about their miso soup. Called to ask about reservations and the man on the other like was super friendly and joked around a bit. We made a reservation for 7:30 but walked in around 7:45. No problem. The hostess? A bubbly, talkative, cheerful young lady. She recommended drinks and noticed that we were from out of state. We moved to Portland a few weeks ago and we all chatted about the journey across the country because she moved from North-Midwest area as well. The drink she recommended was delicious. I tried to dine here yesterday with a party of 3 and I was incredibly disappointed to hear that we needed a reservation on a Tuesday, or we would have to wait an hour to be seated. The restaurant was nearly empty! Nowhere on their website dos it specify that they only seat parties on the hour. We arrived at 7:03 pm and they made no effort to accommodate us. As a result we left and went to a competing hibachi restaurant and had a wonderful time. They sat us immediately and their food/ chef was great. Moral of the story: I really felt snubbed by Tokio Table and I will not return. Also, I can't believe they are rated so highly on Google. went back last weekend w a different friend. It was 7:30 on a Saturday and the place was very sadly, a ghosttown. Fried rice is still extra (sigh) and the meal was still very oddly staged. we thought about getting apps, but I warned my friend not to. There's just WAY too much food. Honestly, those were some of the best sushi rolls I've ever tasted in my life. And given the excellent sushi I've had all over the world, that's saying a lot. The rice was the perfect consistency and stickiness, the flavors were perfectly balanced, the ingredients were all fresh and crisp, and the presentation was perfect. I felt badly for the young lady who placed a large take-out order at the same time as I ordered the entirely happy hour menu, because that meant that her order took a while to be finished, but honestly, it was so good I would do it again. Visited this place twice and got excellent service at both time. The owner came out and greeted each table. The same chef that we got at both times did really cool tricks that my son loves. I can tell the quality of the food is outstanding, because the type of cooking they do is using simple seasoning, so a great quality of the food will stand out. My boyfriend and I are in Portland for business and we decided to check this place out and I'm so very glad we did! The food was good but it was the staff that really were exceptional. Our waitress Jessica was always on hand to refill or just check in. She was extremely friendly and a genuine joy to be around. Our chef for the evening was Alan, who entertained us beyond belief. My husband and I both had hibachi. I had scallops, and he had chicken and shrimp. Unfortunately, my scallops were overdone. As I sat there watching them cook...and cook...and cook, I could hear my inner Gordon Ramsay yelling, "What are you doing!?! Take them off!!!!!" The overcooking was unfortunate, but when cooking so many things while performing a show, I get how easy it would be to overcook scallops. The real disappointment that will probably keep us from going back is how incredibly salty our meals were. It was hard for me to finish my meal, and my husband didn't finish his. Way too much salt. We were seated right away, the drink specials were delicious, the server was seriously the nicest server I've met, and our chef was not only entertaining (hilarious and had impressive tricks) but also a master of his craft- food was awesome! Everything about Tokio Table leaves something to be desired. I love a good Japanese Steak house and was thrilled to hear about Tokio Table opening. Unfortunately, it misses the mark. First, the ambiance. It is a sleek, club-like decor only exceedingly well lit and dead silent when the chef isn't doin' his thing. Some music would go a long way. Additionally, the poor use of space makes it seem empty and cold. Service is slow, friendly, but slow. We sat for a good 20 mins before our order was taken, after which there was no rush getting us our appetizers. In my experience with other places like this you've got a little side salad in front of your before you can get situated! Perhaps the most annoying thing to me is the +3 for fried rice. Just roll it into the cost of the meal! No one comes here for steamed white rice. I come to watch our chef fry everything up in the rice and gorge myself. I've gotten a sushi roll here once which was fine. I do like that they have local meat options. Otherwise, I'd rather drive out to Benihana, there I said it. read more

Great menu with a variety of options, and a good drink selection. Tokio Table is a family-run operation with a penchant for fresh local ingredients, friendly service, and incredible cooking skills. The cuisine is cooked right at your table and comes fresh off the hibachi onto your plate. The flavor they impart is stunning, everything from hibachi chicken to filet mignon and lobster tail. The recent addition of a sushi chef enhanced the menu with some of the best sushi in town. Their full bar has an extensive selection of high quality Japanese sake, great wines, Japanese beer on tap, and even aged Japanese whiskey like Hukushu and Hibiki. The fresh, modern design of the decor is perfect for groups or special occasions. The staff and owner have always been very friendly and courteous on the multiple occasions we've eaten here and they always do an excellent job. The entrees consist of miso mushroom soup, ginger dressing salad, lemon butter shrimp appetizer, grilled zucchini and onions, rice, plus your choice of entree. Also provided are three delicious dipping sauces for the grilled items: spicy mustard, ginger sauce, and spicy sauce. My favorite is the spicy sauce (more of like a spicy Teriyaki style than a pepper based hot sauce) It's a great value for the price considering the quality and healthy portions; each course is beyond delicious. I highly recommend getting the chicken fried rice for an extra $3; best fried rice in the universe. Add a little spicy sauce and the rice is from another dimension. The chefs provide an impressive performance with your meal; juggling eggs and spatulas, flipping things into their hats and pockets, making onion volcanoes and other culinary feats of showmanship. Wanted something a little different on our annual trip to The Portland area. Found this place through Yelp. Very clean and spacious inside. Table top ample for all our food and beverages. Nice cook-top with a 1" recess from the table. Not sure if this was for safety reasons but it was a great idea. I'm not a fan of the chairs - one of them came apart when a member if our party was sitting in it. Adrian, our chef, was fun and funny. miso soup and salad slightly different than "the norm" but really tasty. Our party had shrimp, scallops, chicken, and steak. All were great. I thought the food was a bit over-seasoned (too much pepper). We had outstanding service. Our server (turned out to be Adrian's wife) was very friendly and attentive. Wonderful green tea ice cream for dessert (not included in the meal price). NOTE: We had a baby with us and noticed that there wasn't a changing table in the ladies restroom. Since you can't, trust the other reviews on the food and service...both are excellent. I started with a spicy tuna roll. The cost was good and the roll itself was much better than the chain sushi place that has been my go to in the Tabor area. I opted for the Chataeubriand entree. Things start out with soup and salad. The salad has a ginger dressing that was delicious and refreshing, and I generally dislike ginger. While I are the salad our chef came out and began to entertain. While performing many fun trucks and cracking silly jokes that had me grinning ear to ear, he cooked us shrimp, fried rice, and squash and onions. The steak was melt in your mouth tender. This truly surprised me as I wasn't expecting anything grand from the steak. But it rates as the second best steak I've had in Portland, only beat by the wood fired method over at Ox. After my meal I was pleasantly full, and I had split everything with my girlfriend. When the bill came out our food and drinks was only slightly more than we pay for tacos and margaritas! Made reservations here for my husband's birthday. Key words - RESERVATIONS. We arrived about five minutes late, after calling ahead to let them know we would be late. The person on the phone had said that was fine, no problem. They finally seated us HALF AN HOUR later - the weirdest part is that only three tables in the whole place were occupied! The male staff were drifting around the place like they were in a dream, and one older man who seemed to maybe be a manager or owner was just hanging out behind the bar - probably hiding from all the people they had waiting to be seated. We were finally seated by an extremely hard-working waitress. She was hustling to make up for the guys farting around not taking care of customers. After she seated us, she was run off her feet trying to take care of everybody. I finally flagged down a passing drifter-guy and told him we'd had reservations, we'd been waiting 45 minutes, it was my husband's birthday dinner and could we PLEASE at least order drinks?? I would've left by now but husband had never done hibachi and really wanted to try it out. We finally get to order drinks, and a few minutes later our grill guy comes out. He did a fantastic job and the food was delicious (they do say hunger is the best seasoning...). He paid lots of special attention to my husband, which I appreciated. This review would've been 1-star if not for him and our hard-working waitress. TL;DR - I wouldn't come again. Great food and service! Benihana's was booked for the night, even though it was a Wednesday so we googled and went to this place instead. There were only about 3 groups seated when we arrived. Which was weird because their parking lot was packed and we had to park on a residential street nearby. They weren't busy even for dinner and had a large open floor plan and modern decor. We got really prompt service and the chef did a ton of tricks with the food. They did have several veggie options and either vegetable or tofu dishes, lots of seafood. Below is our order: -beer $6/ea --7/10 for beer selection -tokio tea (Long Island with saki) $8 -- 10/10 -lemon drop $8 -- 8/10 -tuna sesame poke $10 -- 10/10 -soup & salad (served with all entrees) -- 9/10 -twin lobsters $40 -- 10/10 -ribeye $30 -- 10/10 -fried rice $3 -- 9/10 Total was about $160 with a couple drinks each and tip included. I was lucky enough to find this place during its 'soft opening'. My wife and I had a table to ourselves with our chef. The dishes we ordered came with salads, miso and a shrimp appetizer. The miso was very cloudy, but was very unique and fantastic. The salad came with an in house dressing that was not quite my thing, but I'm not really fond of dressings on a salad. The shrimp appetizer was cooked at the table, in teppanyaki fashion as were our entrees. My scallops were cooked perfectly.
