Wow, such a great meal! We came for lunch and first of I'd like to say their lunch prices are really affordable all considering. There were 3 of us. We stayed with the calamari tempura. It came with tempura veggies that were all way better than I expected. Two of us got the beef and shrimp combo ($16 each) and the wife got the chicken (only $12), all from the hibachi menu. We also got that calamari tempura. Our server, James, let us know in advance he was new there but did a great job none the less. Adrian was our chef. He was funny. Gave us a couple good laughs. We liked his tricks. And we really liked his cooking. Holy cow the fried rice was DELICIOUS!!! None of us could stop eating it and we still had to wait for the rest of our food to go with the rice but we just couldn't. I switched to chopsticks to slow me down a bit since I had lost all self control. Well damn, then came the meat and it was all tender, moist and made me do a happy good dance. The beef, the shrimp, the chicken and the veggies...everything was hella good. Everything was bursting with flavor and with smells to die for. When they threw the garlic butter on the grill right next to me I wanted to dip my finger in it it smelled so delicious!! They give you three amazing sauces as well. A spicy may, a ginger and a spicy sauce that was bomb for com on the fried rice. There's a fair amount of seating but I would definitely suggest making a reservation b/c This place is so good I could see it easily getting full, especially on the weekend. This was my second time trying out Tokyo Table and I was even more impressed this time than I was the last. Anthony, our cook, was efficient, talented, funny, and very nice. He was engaging without being intrusive. Our food was perfectly time; nothing ever came to fast or too slow. I also greatly appreciated that the chef in the back was able to care for my Celiac needs. Having a gluten free soy sauce at the table was definitely a plus! All together, this place was nothing short of great. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

Went to there for dinner the first time. Had to wait longer due to the shortage of Chefs were not available. We order the hosomaki maguro tekka maki, and the tuna was severed to me at room temp, and that is not a good first sign to receive raw fish at work temp. The Hibachi Chicken was good, but I order a rare Steak and received a medium rare steak instead. Not happy about that! Our "Chef" was very nice person, but very messy with his service, the fried rice was flying al over the place, the skill level was okay, but a bit sloppy & messy. but overall he was very entertaining to listen too. We have frequented Tokio Table over the years for special occasions and last night for our son's birthday. We had a Chef who was admittedly a non-skilled Hibachi Chef. He was messy, hard to understand, didn't use seasoning and was very hurried. Our food was rushed, poorly executed and although we ate because we were hungry, we were not satisfied at all. He used way too much oil pooring directly on the food, not allowing it to cook out leaving an oily after taste. The Lobster was over cooked, scallops burnt and steak not cooked to order. Vegtables were not fully cooked and very low service asking how we are doing. We explained to the manager, expecting a positive response. She came back taking $57 off a $200 plus bill but forced us to pay a $48 gratuity, so basically they did nothing but insult us. We will never return or recommend anymore. We have great memories at this place but this one is a deal breaker, we will no longer return again. read more

Best fried rice ever. I don't care for fried rice and it's definitely one of those dishes I don't order at restaurants because who knows how its going to come out. The meal came with fried rice so if I was given the option, I would have totally missed out on this gem. I am glad I didn't. I was here with my sisters. Half of us arrived late. No way were we made to feel like douchebags. They were very nice in accommodating us. The hibachi show was wonderful and our chef was great. We had a baby in our group who commanded most of our attention. Unfortunately he was too young to appreciate the tricks. When the last sister arrived just when he finished cleaning the girl, the chef kindly made her food. The lunch is great. We all did the tokio 2 where you get to pick two proteins. The meal also came with miso soup or salad. We opted for miso soup. So light and a nice way to start the meal. The poke is good. The sesame oil is not overpowering which is very nice because the nice blend of seasoning got to shine through. The waitress was attentive and kept our waters, teas, and coffees filled. At the time we were here, there were a couple of large parties and it looked like she was the only one on the floor. I would recommend this place to anyone. I purposefully order this much so I can have left overs because it is so so good left over! Came here for my friends birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was cooked perfectly (lobster and meat) and the fried rice was so delicious! While it is pricey for the portion and what you get it was worth the experience! I recommend making reservation for 5-7 people since it seems they will wait for the table to get full before cooking. They also seem to only have 2 chefs on the floor so it can be a long wait. We saw some people leave after waiting a bit. read more

Just have something here because it's so delicious! The only thing that was lacking was the decor, it was definitely going for a modern feel, however, the place still felt slightly empty... What a surprise, Benihana style cooking on Division. We went there expecting a sushi bar and were greeted by a modern version of the childhood favorite. We ordered a special roll, sashimi and the steak and scallops, finishing off with the tempura banana. All was fresh, prepared perfectly and very tasty. BEWARE!!! Friends and I decided to give Tokio Table a try last night instead of driving to Benihana's. I made a reservation for 7:30pm just in case they were busy. Upon arrival it took several minutes for wait staff to acknowledge us. Once they did we were told they were waiting for other parties to finish up before seating us. That wait was in excess of 30 minutes. They also proceeded to seat another group who arrived after us before us. Once seated it took another 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order and even longer for them to take our food order and start cooking. There was a problem with their soda machine but that they were clearly unaware of. It took the three attempts for them to finally acknowledge they were out of CO2. They brought the wrong appetizers and were confused about who ordered what. The food was unseasoned and mediocre. While plating the food the cook spilled greasy food on my clothes and the table surface in front of my plate. The cook then scooped the food off the table and dumped it on my plate. When the bill arrived we noticed they had already taken the liberty to charge a 18% tip. When questioned about the automatic charge the waiter simply responded with people have not been tipping lately and walked away. We were a group of three. Nothing about the service we received yesterday warranted an 18% tip. If anything they should be paying me for the drying cleaning expense for the greasy stain on my blouse! I definitely will not be returning nor would I recommend it to anyone. If you want Teppanyaki or Japanese Steakhouse just make the drive to Benihana's. It tastes better and the service you receive is better!!!! read more

Wonderful neighborhood Jpanese restaurant with fresh food, and excellent service. The chef was fun and we enjoyed his never-ending knife flipping and food chopping. Prices on entrees ranged from $16 to $38 but this included miso soup, dalrad with a lovely ginger dressing, and prawn appetizers. Ambiance- typical modern/minimalist Asian feel. Lots of concrete and sterile clean lines. I didn't order sushi this time, but I saw several sushi rolls go by and they looked delicious! I will definitely try that when I return. A couple of weeks ago i went here with some family I had reservations I didn't get seated until 30 minutes after my reservation I will say it was pretty full at that time. So when we finally seated we waited for an hour for a cook to even to come to our table and people who were seated well after us was served before we was the communication to us was poor and a bad experience for my family which was there first time there. My boyfriend and I went here around 5 and were told they had a lot of reservations that night so we should come back at 6 as they had an opening for two people. Okay, that's fine. We come back around 5:50 and are told they seated another couple (that didn't have a reservation either) even though it was not even 6 yet! Only three of the tables were occupied that night and all the manager had to say to us were that they did not have enough cooks that night and we should "try to come back at 6:30." We told him that we were leaving and going somewhere else to eat. Reading other one star reviews makes me feel like I dodged a bullet, I'm happy I didn't have to eat here after such a blatant disrespect of my time. Same concept as Benihana, but friendly staff. If I can give a tip I would say never go to a hibachi style restaurant hungry because you will leave the same way you came in, unfulfilled. The two ladies at our table kept saying they were ready to eat, but by the end of the food presentation, they needed a to go box. The pricing is not bad, $77 for three people and I ordered two sushi rolls, hibachi spicy chicken, teriyaki chicken, and hibachi steak. I thought it was kind of funny the chef kept counting out shrimp halves to distribute evenly amongst the table. I came here with three friends the other night with a reservation at 7:30pm (a time suggested to us by the manager making the reservation). Arrived on time and waited close to 5 minutes to be addressed, although multiple staff members made it clear they noticed us. Finally, we were told it would be 5-10 minutes before being sat at a table. Okay, that's fine. We head to the bar and grab some drinks, only to not have a welcoming place to wait for our table to be ready. We were finally sat down an hour after our reservation time with zero explanation or apology for our wait. Not to mention we were sat down after groups that arrived after us were sat. Already very frustrated with the poor service, we were sat at a table only to not be addressed for another 10 minutes. Starving, we ordered two sushi rolls that ended up taking another 25-30 minutes to come out. The sushi rolls came out before we even were served our soup/salad! This meant the chef wasn't even going to come out for another 15+ minutes. Our group glanced over to take notice that the table next to us (which was there before we arrived at 7:30pm was just getting their chef at 9pm. At this point we were so disappointed with our service that a member of our party went up to the manager and said we would pay for our cocktails and sushi and to cancel our orders for dinner. There was still no apology for any of the poor service or delay. I can speak for us all when saying we will never come back to this restaurant. It's a shame that the sushi was great, because the lack of service completely overshadowed it. P.S. Charismatic and a nice smile. We order 6 sashimi w/4 piece California roll and the Tokio two ( hibachi spicy chicken and beef julienne). Sashimi was light and tasty-haven't had a chance to taste the California roll yet (ate so much food)! My partner and I split the Tokio two, overall delicious. Only flaw is that there was a joke made (by a worker), that made us a uncomfortable, per Chinese culture. Definitely unnecessary, especially that we are PoC. Tokio Tables happy hour is awesome! We loved everything that we ordered. We started off with the house salad with ginger ponzu dressing....Yummy! Couple reason for the bad review. Went here for a birthday party. We were seated and took 30 minutes to place our orders and then another 45 to get served our food. My wife ordered chicken teriyaki and was given the smallest 5 pieces chicken you have ever seen. On top of that our appetizer was a chicken Kara-age. We started eating it and noticed the chicken was raw on the inside. When we told the waitress she did take it and get us a new one. The problem with this was that at the end of the night she was still trying to charge us for the appetizer! The simple fact that they couldn't say "hey we messed up extremely, and should just give them the appetizer for free" they decided to try and get one over on us. I really don't understand how they thought that was acceptable, I'm not sure if they have ever heard of salmonella, but that could have ended really bad. What was also laughable was the gratuity tip they gave themself for mediocre food and terrible service. read more

This was their third time back after a long break to see if the place has changed. Nope! We all gave the cook an extra tip not because he was good but because we felt so bad for the employees. At the end of the meal, he pops back in, "Do you guys want dessert? No? So check right?" I know it's Portland and it's Divison. We didn't ask for over the top service. A little basic hospitality would be sufficient. Don't make me feel like we are such an inconvenience by being there. Food: We ordered Tsukemono (Japanese pickled sliced cucumber) for our vegetarian daughter. It came julienned and no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. I sent it back, and said it isn't what we ordered. It came back with the right slice and a touch of rice vinegar, still no flavor. So you don't know how to make Tsukemono, don't put it on the menu and charge $3. Learn how to make it or take it off the menu. Don't mind paying $3, just need to be paying for the thing we asked for. Doesn't even need to be authentic. Just need to be done right. The hibachi chicken was not fresh. Both my sister and her 2 year old son got sick eating them. It's time to send in the food safety inspector. We will never go back. read more
