A friend and I went to Tokio Table for dinner last night. We had a 7:15 seating, but a chef didn't come to our grill until well after 8:00. I can understand that they are having staffing issues, but this seemed extreme. There was a total of six people at the grill - a party of four and my friend and I. The gentleman who ordered the hibachi vegetables got his food first, then the people who ordered chicken fried rice ($4 upcharge per person per the menu). I had to ask to get my steamed rice even though the other three people received theirs without asking. The spicy hibachi chicken that I ordered was very tasty, but it was probably close to 9:00 until I got it. The last thing received was the shrimp appetizer - things definitely were served out of a logical order. There is nothing special about the atmosphere and it was extremely loud. We had to ask four times to get the soup and salad for the takeout order that we placed. The three meals, shrimp tempura appetizer and two non-alcoholic beverages came to $97 (includes $8 upcharge for two chicken fried rice). We choose this restaurants because of the reviews and the distance to travel from my friend's house in the Piedmont/Overview district to Benihana's at Washington Square. In the future, we will deal with the drive. read more

We've been here a few times over the years,and it's good each time! The service is great,and they communicate nicely with the crowd! I like that they engaged with the kids as well,instead of only the adults. He even did the fire more than needed and gave him extra shrimp! read more

First off the customer service is terrible. They forgot my order and they have water down soap in the bathroom. They over cooked my lobster !!! Oh not to mention they forgot about my reservation and seated us 15 mins later. Overall the food is good but the service sucks !! read more

We've been here many times before, their food and service was good. This time we had reservation for a party of 8, it started good. Food was good, we were having a good time. We just just finished our dinner and ordered dessert and the manager came over at 1hour and 20mins to kick us out saying they needed the table. Our waiter came over to apologize. We had to wait by the door to get our desserts. It was a big disappointment and to say, we are never coming back to this restaurant. read more

This place is a better alternative than Benihana if you're looking for a place where they cook at your table, especially if you don't want to smell like it (we still had to hang our coats in the garage overnight to get rid of smell). The lingering smell would have been worse at Benihana. The food was decent as I had a combination of steak and calamari. The service was also good and the chef was very engaging but I would not recommend ordering cocktails as their prices based on size of the drink are a complete rip off. Better to order beer instead. And besides who goes to a hibachi style restaurant to drink cocktails and peruse their fine wine list. That's an oxymoron. read more

Tokio Table is a fun experience. It is best left to special occasion, as the ambiance and show is a big part of the appeal! The quality of the food is generally better than most teppanyaki establishments, but the "show" isn't up to the same level as most others I've been to. Be aware that the parking lot is very small (too small for the number of tables it has), so you'll likely have to find street parking if you visit at a popular time. read more

Last night we ventured out in search of dinner. With 2 kids, and being in a city we don't know very well, our go to is always to look for recommendations on Yelp. This place did not disappoint! We are not new to Hibachi restaurants. In fact, we have one at home that we use as our benchmark for all others. From start to finish, this place exceeded our expectations. We called ahead and made reservations for 7 pm. We were promptly greeted when we arrived and shown to the sitting area to wait. When it was our turn, we were seated and immediately brought water. They even put lids on the cups for the boys - something we often have to ask for. The soup was good, so was the salad, but the drinks were amazing! We had the Old Blood (play on an Old Fashion). Wow. We were very surprised. Our chef was top notch. He had tricks up his sleeves that we had never seen before! The highlight for the kids was watching him flip rice from one bowl to another! And the Chicken Fried Rice - so worth the extra $3! We would recommend anyone go here if you are looking for good food and a good atmosphere! read more

First off, this is a 1 Star because I have no options to leave it a 0! So... interesting... they recommend to reserve. We had reservations for 7 people at 7:00 got there at 6:35. Told the guy ahead of time that we only have about 1 1/2 hours before we have to head out to the airport while I was making the reservation and he said "yeah, you guys will have enough time" I even said to him, if it's not available it's okay, we can try another time. He insisted that he will make it work. Keep in mind, when we got there there was one whole table that was empty. I asked the guy and he said it's reserved for the next party, which btw never came in while we were waiting this whole time. I also had reservations too and my whole party is already here. Walked in, no one greeted us. We had to go ask someone after 3 staff members walked right by us. Asked them if they would make it on time for our reservation, the guy looked at us and said "so do you want to cancel" RUDE! He also said. "Your reservation is at 7 right?"(umm, yeah, but you have a whole empty table And my whole party is here waiting) I felt like he didn't even want to seat us/serve us at this point. I told him, since it's still 6:50, I'll wait and see if we can get seated, is that okay? I walked away, as he is still giving me the confused look. 7:21 and we were still not seated, not once did anyone come to say anything to us. But the guy did come and talked to the ladies who walked in before us(with no reservation, party for 3. And I know they had no reservations because I asked them) I am so upset while writing this that my story is all over the place. By 7:26 we were not even talked to, so we left without saying anything. But basically! If you want to be treated with no respect or courtesy and you're coming there to "beg" for food, I'm sure they'll welcome you in! read more

Good food. Great service! Nice strong yummy cocktails! Great for individuals, couples, and small groups of 6-8. Their menu is VERY affordable for lunch. I can only speak on behalf of their sushi because that's what I came here for. I found this place on Yelp because I was in the area and was craving Japanese. I was satisfied with my meal, but didn't leave with a feeling of needing to come back. The sushi wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular. The service was decent, but nothing special. I may want to try their hot food one day just because I like Benihana and some of the other Yelp reviews are convincing me that this is a good alternative! As for parking, there is a small lot with maybe about 10 spots. The restaurant itself is pretty big with a lot of tables, but it was pretty empty when I went on a Friday night. The prices are decent for what you're getting so I would suggest giving this place a try! read more

So so. Hibachi chef and staff were friendly and fun. Food is okay but expensive for what it is and nothing special (minus a star). I'm taking another star off for cleanliness as there was a swarm of flies near the bar area, and there were grease drops collecting on the vent at our table looking like they were going to drop down on us. We were the first table that night, so it means it wasn't wiped off from the previous night(s). read more

I'm just gonna say it because we all know... this place is essentially a bootleg Benihana. But the good news for us Eastsiders is that it's a great alternative to driving all the way over to Washington Square. While the menu (even the sauces) is almost identical to Benihana, there are a couple things this place does better: 1. They have proper ventilation, so you don't smell like meat and garlic butter for three days like you do at the other place. 2. The soup is better. 3. The drinks are actually good, not like the sugar bombs Benihana tries to pass off as a cocktail. Overall, I'm glad to have this in the neighborhood for when I get a teppanyaki craving. read more

I went there with a big group on a weekday for dinner, we waited for a long time for food. I ordered the tuna poke as appetizer and Hibachi Steak with fried rice for entree. The poke salad was delicious but I was disappointed with the Hibachi steak. The meat was dry and flavorless, I felt like I could make better steak myself at home. Sooo no one is going to complain about the white guy with long hair and black dirt under his fingernails? I dont recall his name but we sat for over an hour waiting for him and the first thing he says is that he is new and isnt worried about doing any "tricks" for us cuz his food is good quality? He was complaining about working 60 hours a week and while doing so he overcooked our steaks (which just tasted like butter anyways). He then took the white bowls our sauces were supposed to go in and filled them up with the two sauces...then put his fingers in the bowls and handed them to us..with his black dirty fingers. Tokio table has good food over all but it took 45 minutes before our starters came out when we had booked a reservation. I was supposed to get mushrooms with my steak but maybe since they saw I was a kid they didn't serve them. I am updating because we came here for out third Xmas , and they have really streamlined the service. The first year we came for xmas dinner , it took a full hour for our chef to come to our table, despite having a reservation and being the first to arrive in the restaurant. Been here a few times before and always impressed. The food and service was great! My family loved it as well. The only problem i have is the salad. The ginger dressing gets me every time! Great restaurant with amazing food, but they can't ever be bothered to answer their phone so that I can safely order takeout during COVID. They're also listed on Postmates, but don't appear to actually fulfill orders that way either. Update: Finally got someone to answer the phone today and was told that they "don't really do takeout, maybe sometimes if it's not too busy but not really." This in the middle of a pandemic, and in spite of their website having a takeout menu. I'm honestly impressed by how hard they're trying to avoid my desire to give them my money. read more

We got our drinks quickly -- two people in our party were away to the restroom when they took our drink orders, and at some places that can result in them not getting attention, but they noticed when our folks retuned and got their orders quickly. The chef cooked all of our steaks and shrimp perfectly, and interacted great with the kids at the table. One person in our group ordered a lobster tail with their meal and said it was slightly over cooked, but this was the only minor complaint. Good quality food for very affordable prices + they have a small parking lot (so rare on Division). I'm a big fan of their happy hour, which may be a bit difficult to catch since it is only 5pm-6pm on weekdays, but it's worth the chase. The wide variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and hand rolls that you can snag for half price could really be a sushi dinner splurge in itself - without the splurge pricing!
