Grabbing a quick dinner after an afternoon adventure in Fort Worth searching for the perfect Bead store. This place did not disappoint. Bright festive atmosphere, we were seated right away for a busy Friday evening. We ordered the tokyonomiyaki, edamame, tamago (omelette sushi), Tomo sushi roll, the west side ramen with pork belly (A Must), and eel maki roll. The pancake stole the show! The best thing is to save a little room for dessert. The tastings of mochi ice cream and fruits were the perfect ending to our meal! I tried Tokyo Cafe for the first time today, I have been so excited to try it out. But unfortunately I ordered the Beef bowl. I don't know if it was because it was a take out order or if this is how they do things there. But that neef bowl was sad. Even though it was a basic beef bowl with green onions for $11.00, I expected a little more than a quarter ounce of meat. The bowl was 95% rice, with 3% sauce, and 2% beef. I will say this... the food was good, but not good enough for me to want to go back and willingly spend my hard earned money on again. read more

Tokyo cafe was our first Sushi restaurant to try in the area and it did not disappoint! You have the option to sit inside as long as you get a temperature check. Since COVID we almost always just order take out. I ordered Teriyaki chicken and steamed edamame. They could have put a little bit more teriyaki sauce but other than that it was great! Chicken was cut in small pieces and it was good quantity. My boyfriend is the sushi fan, me not so much! He got California rolls, spicy tuna rolls and Katsu pork bowl. Recently moved to Fort Worth from Dallas & this was my first time dining here. COVID-19: I thought they did a great job accommodating & adhering to policies. They had related signs everywhere. They sat less tables in the dining area in order to distance seating so everyone could maintain proper distancing - greatly appreciated. They had plywood screens to separate tables - greatly appreciated as well. We were told the wait would be 45 min due to them not being able to seat as many ppl but we were able to have a drink while we waited and the wait wasn't near 45 min - much shorter! Food: We had the Hama chili, tejas roll, New York sunshine roll, & the tan tan ramen. They are were very delicious & we were very pleased with our choices! I love Tokyo Cafe so much. While it's wonderful for dinner as well, I see it as the perfect lunch spot.. whether you need to get in and out quickly or have time to lounge, it's a great casual atmosphere with amazing food at a great price. You'll eat plenty and won't feel guilty about the check. I like to sit at the sushi bar and take my time, ordering a few different things at different times and watching the chefs slice and roll all that beautiful, glistening fish flesh! I recently started with miso soup (piping hot and deliciously sea-salty + gluten free), then had the roasted shishito peppers and salmon sashimi. The peppers were so amazing, ugh.. The simple addition of lemon zest made them extra-memorable. The salmon was of course cold, fresh, and buttery -- my favorite. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll which has great heat, plus a glass of red wine. They have a small but versatile wine and beer selection, plus a full bar and some signature cocktails. While the menu isn't enormous, they have lots of options outside of sushi rolls and sashimi. Ramen, rice bowls, fried calamari, fish & chips, steak & chicken & tofu plates, Brussels sprouts, poke, bao buns, gyoza, steamed mussels... several dishes are also found at Shinjuku Station (Tok fries, Hama chili, the same stir-fried edamame). Yum. There are a ton of gluten free options, too. And vegetarian! The staff is wonderful, the food is rad, the vibe is laid back and bright. I want to come here more regularly. read more

This sushi spot is greatness. I went with a group, so I was able to try quite a few things. I recommend: gyoza, edamame, brussels sprouts, tok fries, and for the roll, I got the crunchy roll, which introduced me to panko on a sushi roll. Genius! The thing I love about their rolls is that the specialty rolls are still very compact. Sometimes the more complicated the roll, the larger and larger they can get, and before you're know it you're trying to stuff a piece of sushi roll in your mouth that's falling apart and is the size of a CD! Not so here! I also tried a couple of their cocktails, and everything was really tasty. I can't wait to come back and try more of the sushi menu. read more

We really liked this place. This was our first visit, but it will surely not be our last. That TOKYOKONOMIYAKI (street food savory pancake) is a perfect starter - crispy on the outside, light and moist on the inside, and packed full of flavor. A veggie appetizer that got the hubby's approval - that rarely happens! For entrees, we each got a ramen bowl after reading all the rave Yelp reviews about the ramen here. I have to agree with all of those reviews. The Tan Tan and Westside ramen bowls were chocked full of delicious well seasoned broth, veggies, meat, and noodles. Oh......buyer beware....if you don't like spicy hot, go with the Westside because that Tan Tan had a "ton ton" of red pepper flakes. It cleared up my sinuses and made my taste buds dance with delight. Portions are ample and the price is nice. We were both full after our appetizer and bowls. We didn't try the rolls, but there are some other really nice sounding menu items (eyes on a Yakisoba noodle bowl) to try for next time. The entrée menu items actually sound a lot more interesting than the roll menu. Mixed feelings - we ordered two starters to share which was wonderful. My wife ordered some sushi and I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was really nice but the chips were inedible, they were covered with salt and sugar and seasoning. I have never ever had sugar on my chips before and after trying one or two I had to speak to the waiter. They made a new batch with just salt. But there was so much salt they were also inedible. There was a 40 minute wait but we got to sit at the bar, by the restrooms in front of the Sushi guys working like horses to get the orders out. Yea, it was a Friday and this place emphatically suggests reservations be placed. Ok. I get it. BUT, don't make room and then take FOREVER to get out a regular ramen. One of the worst experiences I've had with a restaurant. The food took 45 minutes to come out, the size of the food was absurd. I thought they had mistakenly brought out the kids portion but I was SHOCKED to see that the bowls were that small. The size of the sushi rolls was the smallest roles I've ever seen in my life. If I could turn back time the only regret I have is choosing to eat at Toyko Cafe. I wish I could give them 0 stars for the overall experience. To drink My hubby had hot sake and I had a cucumber gimlet cocktail which was delicious. We had the brisket bao buns to start which I've never seen before and they were so good! The brisket was so tender and the sauce tasted amazing . We also each had a miso soup which was full of flavour and the spice girls sushi rolls which was really good and defiantly spicy. Based on the online rave, my husband and I decided to check this place out during one of our days off. The atmosphere is very trendy and cute, with a manga shelf that I was tempted to sift through. We ordered the Tok Fries for an appetizer and that hands down was my favorite thing ever. The seasoned fries are served with a side of sauce and fish flakes. I dipped the fry into the sauce and coated it with the flakes, instant heaven! I made sure none of those fries went to waste. I ordered the Katsu Pork Curry and I did not expect a sweet, almost cinnamon-y taste that it gave out. It was interesting and in its own way very delicious, it just really shocked me when I first tried it! The pork was juicy and delicious. My husband ordered the Donburi Katsu Pork Rice Bowl. He enjoyed it, although mentioned that it contained a lot of scrambled egg. He loves eggs, so he did not mind but just a heads up to those that don't. Unfortunately for us, we did not realize we went right in the middle of lunch hour! The place was packed but we were seated almost instantly. The manager and staff are very rude. We walked up to the podium to be seated and every employee including the manager ignored us. So we sat down and waited to be seated. Then the manager went to the podium and we got up and asked for a table and he completely ignored us and walked off without saying anything. He finally came up to us and said follow me, again with out saying a hello. The manager is named David and because of him we won't be back. To the owners: you really need to find a new manager. She sat us at our table and we were lucky enough to get a great waitress. We ordered a few things off the menu to get a better experience of what this place had to offer. First came the tok fries where are incredible! If you've never had them, you're in for a treat. Then the bua buns came and wow! So fresh and warm. The first bite is the best. It hits your tongue and wakes it up! As if it's preparing you for all the flavors to follow! Next, the tokyokonomiyaki! Don't be alarmed because it looks 'alive' due to the fish flakes that this dish is topped with. Once they get warm the flakes have a tendency to move. Every Vite was perfect. Lastly, we moved on to our entrees. I had the Tan Tan Ramen and she had the Beef Bowl. I didn't have chance to taste hers due to the simple fact that I was almost already in a food coma! My ramen was delicious! The both to noodle ration was on point. To me, the broth is crucial. They topped it with ground beef and pork which was interesting. Not a bad addition. I welcomed the change and can't wait to order it again. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the egg was a mixture of being poached and boiled. Perfection! I will be back! Our family shared the following appetizers: avo bake (baked avocado with stuff crab meat and shrimp), stir fry edamame (spicy, garlic, sesame oil, togarashi, tamari) and calamari (sansyo citrus pepper and yuzu aioli). We really enjoyed the spicy edamame and the calamari, but the avo bake was pretty small to share for the $7 price. I had the westside ramen and the pork belly was not soft at all. It was so chewy I couldn't bite off a piece! Broth was ok and the egg was overcooked. Also tried the spicy tuna tower. You can probably find better tuna towers in Dallas, and it wasn't good for $12. We we're in the mood for Asian food and decided to give Tokyo Cafe a try. It's easily accessible from Camp Bowie and has a decent amount of parking. Inside it's a sleek and modern interior with the modern Japanese vibe. The menu was straight forward and we decided on our meal. My spouse got a hot tea that to drink and the tea pot kept it hot the whole visit. For food we started with the fried shoshito peppers, tempura brussel sprouts, and tokyonimoyiyaki. We also got a spicy tuna roll and a tempura roll. The restaurant was very accommodating in making sure there were no sesame seeds in the food as my spouse can't eat seeds. The food came out in waves and each dish was good. The star was the tempura brussel sprouts which were delicious. The service was good as well. There was a hiccup in the billing when we noticed after they ran the card that they billed us for another tables dessert. They promptly refunded that amount and apologized. Still my favorite restaurant in the city. Their teriyaki chicken still blows my mind and is such a yummy comfort that I am always tempted to drive the sixteen hours just for that. I was having a really stressful drip when I had to go down to Fort Worth Thanksgiving 2021 and going back to Tokyo Cafe was the true high point. I used to go here all the time when it high school, it was my first taste of miso and sushi and it had always had such a comforting vibe. And because of that it was imperative to take my child there.
