The food is good, but not worth the portion size. I always have ordered Hibatchi Chicken and there were always good portions of meat and veggies. Since management changed the portions have been cut in half but the price has remained the same. I do love the food but wish they would increase the meat and veggie portion. Went yesterday for the lunch special of Hibachi Steak for the first time in a very long time. It was more than unimpressive, The steak was horrible, I didn't expect much given the price but when you can't eat the majority of the steak it defeats the purpose of getting the meal. Why is it that every mediocre place in Hillsborough has great reviews? Is it because there's no better options in this little town or because the residents are so cultureless that they don't know the difference between amazing and passable? The truth is that this place is exactly that: Passable. They over cook the chicken and steak, they rely too much on the white sauce that they hope you'll drown your food in. The prices are about $1 high per entree. It's okay. I end up just getting the vegetable teriyaki because they screw up all the meat. Protip: Smaller chunks of chicken would go a very long way, as well as a mix of white and dark meat. Look at how Sarku does it and take notes, because as sad as it is to say: That food court staple does it better. read more

Love coming here for lunch. They're reasonably priced, have good daily lunch specials, decent portions and super friendly staff. The food is always hot and fresh, and never takes more than a few minutes to receive your order. I usually get the hibachi steak, and the meat is usually tender, juicy and well cooked (can't stand over cooked, dry steak). Seating can get a little tight during peak hours but is worth it. read more

I'm giving up on this place. Which is sad because Hillsborough is desperate for fast but healthy food and this was reasonably close compared to the fast junk food places all around it. The food is too sweet. I'm no health food nut. But there's alot of sugar in the base sauce for everything on the menu (limited menu). And then they top every dish with these sugar SOAKED carrot slices- they are like mushy candy. Nasty. This place is right NEXT DOOR to a Planet Fitness. So right next to hundreds of people who are interested in being healthy and they're blowing it. The menu says "Grilled Grouper". It's deep fried!! If it were actually Not fried, they'd be way busier. My 16 yr old son begged me to stop bringing it home (only occasionally anyway) because of the sweetness. It tells you something when a 16 yr old thinks it's too sweet. Anyway, if you like sweet, portions are good for the price. The veggies used to be fresh and not soggy/overcooked but now they're lousy. Also the steak has a weird texture and tastes a little like liver. I noticed that goog reviewers mentioned the place changed hands not that long ago- that is likely tge reason it's worse. Anyway- never again for me and if it was good and not sickly sweet, we'd be there at least once a week. Oh well. read more

I eat at this business at least once a week and today received the worse service ever. Not to mention I get the exact same meal m. Today I was advised that I was gonna be charged $2.50 to add onions and mushrooms to my meal. I have never been charged before. My daughters and I tried out this spot because one wanted teriyaki chicken. The menu is pretty basic. We ordered one teriyaki chicken and one hibachi shrimp. The food was fast and each meal received a huge white sauce. We were excited to get home and give it a try. I was a little shocked when I opened the boxes. I had to literally search to find the chicken and shrimp. There was a ton of tasteless rice and lots of onions. Now I know why they offer double meat for an additional fee. You would need double meat to match the regular order of any other restaurant. We will not return and I hate that i paid $15 for a tasteless container of onion rice! Best Hibachi restaurant around. I would chose Tokyo Express over Kanki any day! The food is clean and not greasy, and they always give you a generous portion. Their prices went up by $1 recently but it was absolutely worth it as the food quality increased greatly when it changed management. The people working up front are always super nice and very personable and are very generous if there is a mistake. I would absolutely reccomend Tokyo Express for anyone looking for a good lunch or dinner. read more

I am a regular customer of this place and I always order well done vegetables and the last two times I have went there the broccoli has been barely done and very hard. I called and they explained that they weren't going to fix the mistake that we needed to specify to make it more well done which I explained I wanted soft broccoli and it wasn't. Very poor customer service and didn't care that THEY made the mistake. Not going back there. read more

Great food. VERY fast. We eat here maybe twice a month. We usually do takeout. They are so quick and the food is always hot. We had an error with our order last time (they forgot the sauce but had told us it was in the bag). They went above and beyond to correct it. Great place to eat. read more

Will not return to this establishment. I've eaten here before and its so-so, but last night's meal was very disappointing!! When I walked in, I noticed the menus were updated, and the cashier said they had new owners, so I thought maybe it will be better now. NO IT WASN"T. I was actually worse. I ordered 2 steak and shrimp plates, one will all veggies, one without. When I got home I had 7 shrimp and maybe 10 small pieces of steak that were tough. My husband had about the same amount and he commented about the tough steak. For $26 I expected way more than this. I will not be gracing their door again. The only ups I can give this store is the fact that the staff is very friendly and the food is good at times, but, the store must be filthy overall yet the dining area is always well-kept. The food is either over-cooked and nearly burned at times, or under-cooked, very rarely is the food incredible, but only when certain cooks are making the meals at the grills. The last straws I had for the restaurant is the fact that the last plate I bought had hair in it and I saw a huge roach on my way to the bathroom in the hallway. 2/5, will not return, and would not recommend unless you want a quick meal. read more

Tokyo Express is one of my favorite places to eat. The staff is always very friendly but the prices are a bit high for the amount of food you receive (double steak often doesn't look like double meat...). Love this place!!! The food is the best take-out style Japanese I have ever had and the staff is incredibly nice and friendly. The restaurant is clean for dine in, or I can call in a take-out order while driving there and it's hot and ready when I arrive. Our kids (9 and 7) love this place too. read more
