For the First time I went into Tokyo Hibachi and Sushi. Ordered the Chicken Hibachi and Rice, I Asked if Rice came with the Order. Got home and Discovered on the Receipt was Charged another 3.95. Plus took only Two Bites from the Chicken It was So hard to Chew Couldn't Eat it. Calling the General Mrg. Tomorrow and Bringing Back the Order. I've Ate at Other places and This has Never happened. Bill Was 28.08 Total. Unexceptable Food in my Opinion. Might Give them Another chance Soon, Will See if they can Do Better. Nice Looking Establishment though. Quiet, dimly lit, appropriate ambiance with helpful waitstaff, reasonable prices, and interesting choices. After stopping at too many places featuring "American fare", it was nice to have a roadside choice that was Japanese. Soup, thought reasonable, is typically just broth, but the sushi rolls gave us some substance. Just what we need after a long drive when we were "foodied out". read more

Horrible. Absolute pond scum service. We start out with them telling us there will be a 30 minute wait and an hour later we are finally seated. 30 minutes after that we receive our drinks. We order shortly after that and then wait another hour to receive our food. The chef then informs us that they have run out of filets at a steak and sushi place which I find very hard to believe, I do however believe he did not want to open the next package of them from the freezer. Overall 1/10 experience food was your average hibachi chain level. My opinion just go to sho gun you will get the same food at a better price faster. read more

Ahhhh Yelp. You are almost perfect! You guide me and help me find out of the way places..... you do everything really almost perfect. I'd actually give you 5 stars minus this one small flaw..... We need to be able to give a restaurant zero stars. Now I say this with caution.... No one should hand out zero stars for an off night, a learning experience, or the occasional big miss. Zero stars should be reserved for the big ones. The ones that truly show an owners absolute disregard for their clientele. Examples to follow- First some history. I love hibachi. In Grayson county we have one place. I've eaten here probably 30 times over the years. I've had more below average customer service experiences than good ones..... but I am realistic. It's Grayson County..... we are suppose to have less. The food always tastes pretty good and the servers generally try their best given short staffing that seems to be a problem this past decade for the restaurant. I just sort of accept that stuff. Tonight my wife and I arrived at 8:50. The place closes at 9:30. So I knew maybe we would be a bit rushed. But no worries. At the front desk we were greeted by Mrs Kim. (Owner) and told that hibachi was closed. Rudely. I looked at my wife hoping to get some help on if we should stay and eat sushi or go and then we were told that they could still do hibachi. We were told "open seating" with an added hand gesture to sit somewhere. So we proceeded to the closest seats and then were shooed out of those to a small little table that hadn't been cleaned for tomorrow. No problem. No one took our drink order for about 15 min. No problem. Waitress brings us menus for sushi. We had made peace with the idea it was probably just sushi. No problem. Waitress then reports that sushi is closed but we can do hibachi! Surprise but ok. Rolling with the punches! We order. Food comes out quick. Rice isn't cooked all the way.... No worries. Still pretty tolerant. Waitress comes to get me a refill a few min later and returns with no glass. "Sorry." "They turned off the soda machine." And she walks away. So we finish our meal without a drink. Sort of hard with dry rice. Same thing happened to a group of 6 who was sitting across the room from us. They all just sat there in disbelief. As we did. We paid. Left a tip as the server was not at fault. And left this 1 star review because I can't leave 0. Mrs Kim walked out the front door after turning off the soda machine about 3 min before we left. We left 10 min after they officially closed. Guess she needed to get home..... read more

The sushi is great here, especially for Sherman, TX. They were really busy when we went the other night and we had the best server we have ever had there. Nicholis was awesome and very sweet. Mt. Fuji and Volcano rolls were great. There was an issue with one of our rolls but our server got it fixed asap. My mom ordered hibachi steak and it was cooked perfectly. read more

my best friend and I went in to have a nice dinner meal where she wanted. when we arrived we waited a little while and saw the host sitting people at their table. After it was our turn she told us where to sit and did not walk us there. We sat for a few minutes and our server did not introduce herself and asked us what we wanted to drink but we were never given any menus. We got our menus and ordered two drinks and they did not come out in a timely manner and neither did our food; it was not busy. We had our food and the total for 2 people was $98. I looked over the check and somehow we had an extra $30 charge of something we never ordered. The server fixed it and I looked over it again and saw another extra $14 of a sushi roll we never ordered. Our end total was $51 with the stuff we did order which was expected after a couple rolls and 2 two drinks. As a server, I was disappointed that we were not treated like guests or given service by our serve. If you expect good service with the meal you're paying for, this is not the place! read more

Sushi is always great... and honestly the only reason I will come back is because it's conveniently next to my work. But the front end staff pays no attention to the walk ins. I had a pick up & this was on multiple visits where my order should be ready in 30 mins (I only order 1 roll) and I get there in 30 mins and end up waiting 30 more. And when my food is ready it'll be set on back counter and just sit there till some decides to take notice of you again. Poor customer service. Red, Red flags! For those that expect good food, good service (like a knowledgeable sushi chef) and a clean place to eat and enjoy, and you are like me and tend to pay attention to the red flags at an eating establishment, you might want to read this! We were seated at a sushi table near the sushi bar. We just wanted sushi. There was a dirty vent above us on the black ceiling with built up dirt hanging out of it and a dusty dirty grimy pendulum lighting less than a foot and 1/2 away from our faces. (Which is suppose to add a little ambiance while dining) We could see that it had not been dusted in a long while and had grime and dirt stuck to the metal fixture. The dust was literally floating everywhere on and around us. You could see it floating out of the light fixture. We spent our whole meal using our napkins waving around in the air trying to keep the dust from landing on the table, the food and us. It was ridiculous. There were flying bugs buzzing around the light fixture and us during our meal that we had to keep shooing away to keep them out of our faces. I wondered where these little bugs were coming from? Hmmm, probably the kitchen. I had to wipe off my seat from the last customers food before I could sit down. Wanted some soy sauce. The low sodium soy sauce was very dusty on top and you could tell it never gets replaced or cleaned. Refused to use it. Same goes with the salt shaker. There was salt clogging up the holes and it looked like it had never been cleaned. The sushi rice was served ice cold on the nigiri and maki sushi plates. Sushi rice should be served at a specific temperature around room temperature on Japanese sushi. It was so cold it took away from our nigiri and maki sushi experience and took away from the fishes flavor or should I say no flavor that in which I look forward to savoring in my mouth. We had to keep flagging down the server for things that should have obviously been served with sushi or at least suggested by the server before our food was brought to the table only to get more cold while waiting for soy sauce bowls, ginger, wasabi...It probably wasn't his fault just poorly trained. He was a very nice guy. The sashimi fish was sliced so thin it wasn't worth the price they charged. In fact after I ate what I thought would make a meal, I had to add to my order because I was still hungry. Hmmm never had to do that at a sushi bar before, and I order the same items at every sushi bar. I don't care for sushi rice on the outside. I prefer sushi rice to complement my seafood. They served my new order of seaweed wrapped maki with ice cold sushi rice with very little salmon in the middle. It was mainly rice wrapped in seaweed. This was our date night and we planned on taking our time have a few beers, good conversation, good sushi in a nice clean and sanitary restaurant. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. This whole disaster meal ordeal cost over $100+. In my opinion, if they're going to scrimp on their sushi fish and serve it with practically all rice and no fish, they should at least lower their prices. I don't mind paying for good sushi prices either. Btw, don't look at their menus online. They are old menus with old pricing. Never been updated. Unfortunately, I looked at the online pricing before going and was shocked when I saw the sushi menu at the restaurant with very expensive pricing. Should I dare talk about the bathrooms? Definitely was not cleaned on the employee schedule as it should be. No toilet paper in the stalls, dirty counter and my rubber soles on my shoes stuck to the floor when I tried to walk. Should I say more about the bathroom cleanliness? I know. You're wondering why we didn't just get up and walk out at the very beginning? I'm guessing I had a senior moment or was it a brain bleed? However, I'm not too old to learn a good lesson! Never will we go to this restaurant again. Just think if this is what the customers see and have to deal with at their table you can bet the kitchen is even dirtier! They don't offer negative star reviews so im giving a 1 star, but really its a minus 100 stars. read more

One of my most favorite places for sushi. Hibachi here is good, too, but it will take you a good hour to order, watch the preparation and eat. With the sushi bar, you're in and out in 20-30. I've had a craving for California Rolls lately, so I've stopped by here three times in the past two weeks. Twice on a Saturday night and once at lunch on a Wednesday. We were so excited to try this since we don't have a hibachi place anywhere closer. Showed up to a completely empty restaurant, and told the hostess we wanted hibachi for two. She put our name on a list and told us we would be seated in just a moment. She then proceeded to ignore us for 10 minutes, clean menus, drink an energy drink, then disappear somewhere in the building. We crossed our name off the list and left. I've been here 4-5 times. Each time it is unorganized. It appears the staff turnover is high. There is often confusion. Wait times are high for hibachi on weekends. They would not take a reservation. Waited 40 minutes to sit. Many people came and left because it was such as disaster. After another 35 minutes the hibachi had not started. Wastes 75 minutes and left. Not worth the wait. read more

Tried this place out 2/1/20. It took some time to be seated, which is ok. But to take our drink and food order seemed like awhile. The wait after that to come make our food was 20-30 min wait. The place smelled like some bad fish so stinky. The food was ok, nothing special about it. I've been to a few of these places and this one to me did not go over expectations nor the quality of the food was worth the price we paid at the end. Ohhh and they put their OWN tip included in the bill for larger parties. Maybe a small party. It's in very tiny print so if you're one of those that don't pay attention to the bill, you will be double tipping. They charge 18%, EVEN if they weren't that great as service oh they still going to get that tip! Would not return to this place. Disappointing! read more

This was our second attempt at eating here and the service was not it, once again. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but nope. We clearly stated we wanted to be seated at a table but got seated at hibachi. We basically had to wait 30 min for a table we didn't even want. Once we finally got seated at a table, not a single waiter came to take our order or greet us, we had to call them out ourselves after waiting for 20 minutes. Super delish! This place has very good quality sushi. Its a little on the pricy side. Every thing i tried was hella good. They serve awesomely large portions. The service was alright. I had a miso soup and a salad to start with. The salad was really fresh and crisp but the miso soup was kind of bland compared to others i have had. Good but seemed like it was missing a little something. I then dove right into the sushi. The sushi was very colorful and vibrant. Not stringy at all. I got a spicy king crab roll and a spicy seafood roll. Highly recommend them both. The service was not the best. I love my ginger and had to ask three times before they remembered to bring it out. The place was under staffed. There was a sign saying they were hiring for a bus boy and you could definitely tell due to all the uncleaned tables. They did however give us a free round of rum and cokes, so there was that. Besides the unbussed tables and being maybe a little understaffed this sushi place is A-plus. Clean and neat restrooms with a crazy modern sink. All in all i would say you NEED to go here if your a sushi lover. Next time ill try the hibachi dinning. Checked in where we're told to sign a piece of paper to wait for a hibachi party of two. I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is sitting for over 25 minutes waiting on a spot and we get somebody walking in 30 minutes after us and they seat them right away when (no reservation) while we've been sitting there waiting. This restaurant has done nothing but descend into abomination for the past five or more years. The pandemic should have provided a much warranted death knell, but through the generosity and cluelessness of the local clientele, (you know those that think Italian pasta dishes should be mushy and drowning in sauce, as if it were soup), Tokyo managed to survive on life support. It's honestly such a shame that the top restaurant in Sherman burnt down and somehow this festering quagmire still exists to disappoint and pilfer all those who dare enter. But alas, I had the unfortunate displeasure of dining at this manure recycling plant last night and for $100, one would think that I would've been afforded the curtesy of lube, if one is to get F'd. Where to start... First, there apparently aren't any wait staff, only a host & hostess that perform double duty. Despite their feeble attempts, they failed miserably at both roles. After waiting an inordinate amount of time, some minion approached my table, standing entirely within my personal space, close enough that her apron kept brushing my shoulder. With a deep grunt, she barked a total of six words to us; no hello, no thanks for coming in, no I'm sorry for the delay. Just a quick "What do you want to eat" as an annoyed baritone utterance. I placed an order for a single roll, a few pieces of Nigiri, and a couple of hibachi entrees. In a proper functioning establishment, the sushi would have been provided first as the appetizer followed by the main. Approximately twenty minutes later, the hibachi dinners show up, and it's by far the worst quality I've had since Tokyo has been in existence. The $3.49 fried rice has some bits of egg in it, but certainly not the fried rice I was expecting. Our steaks were supposed to be the same temperature, but my pregnant wife's was the cold side of rare - we had to switch plates out of safety concerns because sending it back wasn't an option as we had no server, ever. I was forced to go fetch ginger & yum yum sauce from the take out station, refill our own waters, and run out to the car to get a pocket knife in order to cut our steaks. We figured our sushi order had been forgotten, but after having experienced one of the worst meals ever, maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. Until it showed up...after we finished dinner. My wife's shaggy dog roll tasted foul/off, either from uncleaned shrimp tempura, or dirty water used to make the rice. The nigiri was sliced from the wrong cut of tuna, and in the wrong direction. It was riddled with sinew and unable to be bitten or chewed. These parts of the fish are typically used for mince that's combined with sriracha and forms what's known as spicy tuna. Both dishes were inedible. But this is to be expected because the 'sushi chef' isn't a chef at all. True sushi chefs are highly trained artisans who excel at their craft and pride themselves on the quality of their dishes. This kid was probably an entry level line cook who was promoted to the sushi bar just because the owner is too cheap to hire a proper trained chef. As if the past hour wasn't torture enough, Tokyo just has to get in one more unlubed thrust as a forget me not. The menu prices don't match the bill. Apparently the cheapskate owner (he has a reputation), didn't bother to update the laminated menus or arbitrarily decided to reprogram the computer hoping no one would notice, but there was a good $8-10 in 'padded prices'. Not to worry though, I'm pretty sure this practice is illegal in Texas and I'll be making a complaint to the Attorney General. Tokyo, do us all a favor and just die. Maybe then a more honorable entrepreneur with a focus on quality & customer service can replace you. read more

I am not sure the reason for some poor reviews, but I found this restaurant to have excellent food and service. This restaurant has gone through some changes (for the better) due to staff changes. This is a japanese style Hibachi restaurant. So, a good part of service is the presentation, which is great here. This is not a fast food restaurant, so it may take a while to be seated on a busy evening. The suhsi is fresh and is served quite creatively (pleasing to the eye). The meat (both steak and seafood) that are prepared in front of you are excellent and melt in your mouth. The sauce that the meal is served with is awsome. This must be a secret sauce. The desert of fried icecream is quite refreshing and is an excellent choice to end your meal with. Given my experience, I highly recommend this restuarant. read more
