My coworker recommended this restaurant to me with a few warnings - make reservations and order everything we want at the beginning. So, I made reservations for my wife and I. The moment we were seated (about 7:05pm) at the table, we were told by the owner (man with ponytail) that there's a big group coming at 7:30pm and to hurry up. We almost could not believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. We have not even ordered! And this is hot pot where the food are boiling hot and spicy. I guess they weren't kidding - the check came shortly after the food and there were 2 waitresses and the owner checking if we are ready to pay (all within 5 minutes time frame). We had wanted to try the dessert but didn't even get the chance. We were being rushed out for a bigger group that will have bigger bills as if our money is worthless. Well, needless to say, we will NOT be going back there. And just for the owner's information, my wife was going to invite her former co-workers at Stillwater after she tried the food. Doubt she will be doing that with the horrible customer service. We will also not be joining my friends and in fact, will be discouraging our friends from going back there. And hope this post will discourage anyone in a smaller group (of less than 10 people) to not even bother going to this restaurant. I never write reviews about restaurant. Yes, the experience here is THAT horrible to "encourage" me to create an account in Yelp, Zomato and other websites to inform others. read more

If you are ever in or around Stillwater Oklahoma, make the time to stop in and eat a meal at the Tokyo Pot. If you don't, you will miss out on a great meal, and a rare experience. Not only is the food excellent, but the experience is worth every penny alone. If you have never eaten Shabu Shabu, try it here first. I doubt it gets better anywhere else. Dean, who I believe is the owner, is an amazing guy. While it is a real honest to goodness restaurant, Dean treats everyone like a close friend or family member. I have not traveled extensively. Nor have I eaten every kind of food on earth. But I do love food, and am a pretty good judge of what people like. I think that if you like Soup, or Beef, or seafood, or vegetables, you will absolutely, without question, love this. Dean, is a humble guy, who constantly says that Shabu Shabu meals are simple, and downplays his culinary gift. I believe that a true master can take simple things, and turn them into something extraordinary. Rembrandt and Monet just mixed primary colors and made pictures right? Beethoven and Mozart just wrote out some tunes with different notes, and arranged for a few instruments too... Tokyo Pots waitresses all seem knowledgeable and helpful, the food is excellent, and the beer choices pair well with the food. When I am in Stillwater, I will always stop at the Tokyo pot! read more

I heard about this place so I come to give a try. Good: owner is very nice and fun but the waiter was not that sweet. Food: I have been told the small size of rib eye is about 9 oz and large is about 12oz, so I thought the small will be enough for me since I am on diet, do not eat lot. When the meat came, it was definitely not 9oz, maximum 5 oz because there were 9 pieces of skin thin rib eyes. And the vegetable is not a fun plate at all, few pieces of napa cabbage, two pieces carrot slice, two half pieces mushroom, just too simple and not well prepared Just everything is too "just so so". Not well perpared. If you have eaten authentic Chinese Hot Pot or Japaness shapu shapu, you will know what I mean. Plus it is very pricey and not authentic Japaness shapu shapu. I will not go back. Also, they do not have kids food even I ask simple fried rice or stir fry noodles, they do not have kitchen to cook those. So I have to eat hurry up and got McDonald's for my kids, poor them. This place is so cool, words can hardly describe it! The atmosphere, the employees, the food, all of it was amazing. I've always wanted to try shabu shabu and was really excited about this place. My husband took me and our friend last night for my birthday and between the three of us we had the jelly fish and the mystery appetizer, the rib eye, lamb, red snapper and shrimp entrees and the mystery dessert. Everything was delicious and the manager, Dean, and our waitresses, Nikki and Meghan, were very friendly. We drove from Moore all the way to Stillwater just for Tokyo Pot and it was so worth it! Man, where do I begin. From the Zelda theme music, to the wonderful staff, the stupidly good food, the warm vibe throughout the building aaand Dean. Dean who brought us (myself a first timer) a bowl of rib eye even though we ordered salmon and shrimp, just to show us what was up. I can't accurately describe how awesome this experience was. They were kind enough to seat us even though we didn't have a reservation. A mistake I won't make again. Do yourself a favor and visit this place just once. You won't regret it. Fun group place, or date night experience. Expect to spend two hours, more if you are drinking. Because of the lengthy time involved, I wouldn't recommend it if you are dining with children. Also, because of the nature of the restaurant (you get a plate of uncooked food, then cook it in a communal pot on the table), I wouldn't recommend it for strict vegetarians, or people with food allergies. Otherwise, it is tasty and a fantastic change from the usual Stilly options, and worth the drive from OKC or Tulsa for an outing. read more

The side of rice is cooked on the firmer side, but once you mix it with the sauce, the texture becomes perfect. The prices are student‑friendly, and the portions are just right. I can't believe such a great restaurant is located right next to the OSU campus. It's been a week since I ate there, and I'm already itching to go back. It's clean, and the lighting is ok as well. Nothing to call home about. Although the booths need some work. But they're not terrible. They have lanterns hung up around the restaurant ceiling. One thing that immediately stood out to us when we got there (this is a Japanese restaurant plus a hibachi or teppanyaki style restaurant as well) is that when we got sat on the restaurant side is the number of menus we got. I don't know if they didn't have enough or what the deal was but we were a party of 4, but only got 2 menus. So we had to share menus. The server came over pretty much right away to see what we'd like to drink and if we'd like to order any appetizers. We also ordered 1 order of tuna roll as an appetizer. As it's a bit expensive which is pretty on par when it comes to sushi. Especially in a landlocked area like OK. So that wasn't a big deal. My kids and husband said it was pretty good but the sushi looked a bit skinny in my opinion but they were ok with it. This visit I order pork katsu, my 2 kids ordered chicken katsu and my husband order the combo of tempura and teriyaki steak (steak was supposed to be cooked to medium rare, it was cooked to very welllll done!) also my husband asked for no teriyaki sauce as he said it was way too sweet and overwhelming when he ordered it the first time. The pork katsu was ok but a bit dry. All of the dishes came with the following: rice, miso soup, a side salad with a ginger dressing (which was strangely neon orange, and the "garnish" was a maraschino cherry(?)). Also you get a bowl of the katsu dipping sauce as well. The miso was good the salad but the salad dressing was super sweet (along with the oddly neon orange color) and had no ginger flavor. The chicken katsu was good as well. The kids said it was what it was. Again with a maraschino cherry as a garnish. Which again is odd. LOL but it's fine. Not the expected garnish for platters. Usually it's shredded cabbage. But hey if it works for them that's fine. My husband ordered the combination tempura and teriyaki steak with no teriyaki sauce. (My husband said that the last time the sauce was way too overwhelming and sweet). The server asked how he wanted the steak to be cooked, which was medium rare. The steak wasn't medium rare, it was actually very well done. It wasn't seared from what I could see, it looked almost like it was steamed. And the tempura was 2 pieces of shrimp, sweet potato, onion, you also get 2 pieces of shumai or shrimp dumplings and 4 pieces of California roll sushi. My husband said there was a bit too much mayo. He said also the meal was ok. Nothing to call home about. We got our food pretty quick. Which was great. Unfortunately when the food was delivered to us there was a fork stabbed into each and every bowl of rice! In my culture that's bad luck. It was quite shocking to see but I know that's not something that the restaurant would know per se. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive. But I guess per the server the owners are Chinese. I don't know if the Chinese culture has the same thing but as a Japanese American I was always taught don't stick a fork, knife or even chopsticks into a bowl of rice upright. That is bad luck. So it really bugged me. LOL The biggest thing that I had an issue with was when we left was when we left. We asked for the check which we got pretty quickly. And we gave the server the our card, he scanned it and brought it back for signing. He then came back and said uh actually I gave you the wrong ticket. So this is the right one and I'm going to have to charge you the difference. So he gave us the wrong one? Then we paid for someone else's tab and then in order to fix it - he had to go to his manager to fix it by charging us the difference. It wasn't a huge difference. But still one would think that he would be organized enough to pay attention to ensure that the correct tickets are going to the right tables. SMH FYI I definitely knew the place was run by Chinese ppl because at the counter in the front had fortune cookies. Yeah not Japanese LOL So overall not sure if we will go back after that experience. Especially after the ticket mix up. SMH And no apology.

I always have a hard time with Chinese food because I'm from Hawaii and so that's what I'm comparing it to. He suggested we go here. The serve lunch and dinner buffet, and they also allow you to buy to go. This is paid by the pound. The food is ok, the standard Chinese food. Beef broccoli, chicken and mushroom, sweet & sour chicken, pork loin, fried rice, steamed rice, soup, etc. So essentially the standard stuff. The food is usually hot, and they turn over the food pretty quickly, so it's usually fresh. I've never had any problems with the menu. The restaurant itself is pretty sizable, so there are booths as well as tables to sit at. The hostess is friendly and remembers your face when you come in. (That's a big deal to me) When we went in my younger son wasn't with us, and she noticed and asked after him. So, it means she pays attention! They do offer soda, but I can't remember if it's included with the cost for the buffet. They do have an adult price, and a child's price. We don't go there a ton, but the customer service is always great. They ensure your drinks are filled and they clear your dirty plates pretty quick as well. So, check it out. I think it's better than the Chinese place that's in Stillwater! No I'm not talking about Golden Dragon, or the place that's in the old red lobster.

The food was hot, flavorful, and constantly being refilled, so nothing sat out too long. There was a great variety to choose from, and every dish had bold flavor and was cooked just right. It's hard to find a buffet where the quality matches the quantity, but this place definitely delivered. For our first visit, it exceeded expectations in every way. We would rate it way over a 10 out of 10 and will absolutely be back!
