I'm still getting used to Denver time (traveling from NY), so I got here really early at 7:30AM (they open at 6AM). There was not a line until 8:30AM this Sunday (I was hanging out waiting for the Farmer's Market to start). Overall, I thought this place was comparable to the better Japanese bakeries I've tried in LA and NY where I've lived. I'd come again for the peach tart, but everything else was just good - not something I have to come again for given the plentiful bakeries where I live. Peach tart: This is a staff favorite, and this was mine as well out of everything I got! They use baguette dough for all of their tarts/danishes. I thought the peach really blended well with the light custard and the pastry. Beef curry: This was warm because I came so early - not sure if that's always the case. Very good, and like someone else mentioned, tastes like the Japanese curry brands you see in grocery stores. Sunrise: It's like a soboro bread with lemon flavoring, which I had never had before. Matcha cream pastry: Self-explanatory Earl Grey Croissant: They have a hard earl grey layer of crumble on top, and softer crumble swirled on the inside. Not exactly what I was expecting, but I did enjoy the flavoring. The croissant was a bit too dry/flaky for my liking, but I'd get this again for others to try. We love this bakery. I'm so sad I didn't take any pictures of the other stuff we got. Everything is baked fresh daily! We tried the beef curry bun, hot dog bun, custard bun, cream cheese pastry, fruit sando, tuna sando, and cheese cake! Our favorites were the curry beef bun, the fruit sandos, the tuna egg sando, and the cheesecake! I wish we lived close by because we would go everyday except Monday, Tuesday because they are closed! A tragedy ... The curry bun was hot , the bun was crispy and yummy. The fruit sandos were some of the best I've had. I loved the bread, not too thick . I cannot speak to its authenticity, I've never been to Japan, but worst case scenario, who cares. This place is insanely good. The sweet items are well balanced, the savory stuff are well balanced, the bread.... how do you get what to the eye is just regular white bread taste, feel, and smell like that. The shokupan bread has ruined me. I never want to make anything that requires bread with any other type of bread. The service is OK, never rude but not above and beyond. I did watch them deal with a total Karen super professionally though, kudos there. The variety, uniqueness, and quality is what earned my five stars. I would highly recommend, just do not be that Karen and not understand that other cultures prepare food differently than we do, the egg is supposed to have that texture and consistency, I know that by just watching YouTube. Probably my favorite spot in Denver right now. It's a ritual to get a 1/3 loaf of shokupan (milk bread) once a week from here. It reminds me of texas toast/wonder bread, but better tasting. Make sure to order online ahead of time (24 hour minimum). You can also call in the day of to see if they made extra. Best matcha latte in Denver, in my opinion. A lot of them are too sweet or too bitter, or too milky. This one is balanced perfectly. If you're grabbing a pastry, the red bean donut, red bean bun, and beef curry have been my favorites so far. They are also all the things I've had here so far; 3 out of 3, they haven't missed! Service here is friendly and prompt, not much else I noticed there. I like the ambiance. It can get quite busy, but the window seating is great for people watching. Improvements: I'd love if they used less plastic where they could, and also recycle where possible. I wish yelp had a feature to rate each item at a shop because some items at this bakery were not impressive, while others were AMAZING. I want to start with the AMAZING first, the beef curry was slightly crisp on the outside and the filling was a wonderful flavor. It reminded me of a samosa but it definitely stood out. When we arrived people were lined up outside! We got three croissants that were on the menu: Almond, chocolate and earl grey. The chocolate croissant was oh so fluffy and delicious. I love a good almond croissant and I was impressed by the delicious filling. The croissants were so buttery and crumbly. The Earl Grey was not my favorite but by the time I got around to trying it I was already stuffed! We also got the beef curry bun which was so cozy and comforting as well as a bacon epi and a sausage bun. The bacon epi was much better once we got home and warmed it up. The sausage bun was a fun item with ketchup and mustard sauces baked onto it. After coming in and seeing the Shokupan I will most definitely be returning to get my hands on one. Very disappointing experience. We went at 1pm and there was not a single crumb left on the shelf. I understand it's not the fault of the employees, but maybe the bakery would benefit by being better prepared for an afternoon rush. With three hours left until close, I'm surprised they didn't just call it quits early. The employees were very kind and said we should try ordering online the day before to ensure we can get something, so we'll have to try that next time. The bakery is on a cute little street and was pretty small inside- we were not able to pick our own pastries from the selection, and all were individually wrapped. I decided to get the earl grey croissant and my husband got the choco-banana pastry- mine was DELICIOUS (seriously, if you like earl grey.. you'll happily enjoy this!), and husband said the choco-banana was just okay. The real winner here was the iced hojicha latte I got. It's pretty difficult in general to find hojicha on ANY menu, which is my favorite type of green tea, and damn... this was GOOD. It immediately took me back to my childhood and I wanted to save the moment. Truly recommend this drink... Visiting Denver for a few weeks and came across this place. I have yet to try most of their stuff but what I have tried so far is not bad. I tried the beef curry pan which was probably just ok. A far cry from what you get in Japan at the convenience stores. Nevertheless, I had to try it. I also tried the Bacon Epi. While different than what you get in Japan, I did enjoy it. The firmness of the bread, the soft and flavorful bacon; perfect combination. I want to describe the bread more. If you've ever had this small bread in Japan (maybe even France) that is firm and has these cute tiny cubes of cheese on top; the texture of the Bacon Epi is kind of like that cheese bread. It's not easy to bite into but that is half the fun. I plan on going there again to try a lot more of their stuff. I'm especially excited to try out their chocolate croissant and mochi stuff. Yes, just like the rest of America; they expect you to tip even though you are paying at the counter; Japanese style. This is an updated review: After reading several reviews here pertaining to this store, I wanted to modify my review pertaining to the beef curry pan. I realize that it is not fair on my part to compare the 'flavor' of things like the curry pan (and I do this a lot I realize) to the original places I have had them in. After having been away from Japan for two years due to Covid restrictions, Tokyo Premium Bakery was a really lovely experience. It was my daughter's birthday and she wanted Japanese soufflé pancakes - but there's nowhere in Denver serving them just yet - so we figured this was the next best thing. The staff member we interacted with was really friendly and kind. We ordered a few different items to try - for the savoury items the potato korokke sandwich and beef curry puff were the standouts. Shokupan is also great. The red bean doughnut was excellent - the anko inside was perfect - a good texture and not too sweet. My daughter also liked the chocolate chip sunrise (which was like a chocolate chip cookie meets melon pan). My iced hojicha latte was outstanding and I'd happily come back here just for that. I received some inside scoop that the fruit sandwiches are usually sold out by 10am... so, if that's the reason you're headed to this bakery, the early bird truly does get the worm! I ended up going around 10:30am and the fruit sandwiches were already sold out. So, I opted for an order off the savory side menu of beef curry and on the sweet side matcha cream and the almond croissant! Honestly, I really enjoyed them all. The almond croissant was my favorite. It had a great crunch, texture, and flavor! The beef curry is a really nice option for an on-the-go styled snack! I thought the curry flavor was done well! When it was our turn, we realized two items we wanted were already sold out. Also the reason to call or order ahead so they set items aside for you. No problem because so many things look delish. I ended up getting two matcha cream buns - one for today and one for tomorrow. The hubs ate his egg and bacon pastry today and got a cream donut for tomorrow. We also got a baguette and two matcha oat milk lattes. Both of our breakfast buns had insanely soft but flavorful dough with the respective fillings.
