While the pricing was reasonable and the takeout service was quick, the food is far from authentic and is NOT as it should be on the menu. I ordered a pork steamed bun and tonkotsu ramen. The steamed bun was similar in texture to a hockey puck and barely had any meat inside. It was dry and tough as leather, real steamed buns are light and fluffy. The tonkotsu ramen was clearly made by someone who has never tasted true tonkotsu broth. Tonkotsu broth is supposed to be nearly white, this broth was clear and yellowish. Tonkotsu is a pork bone broth, whereas this broth was mostly ginger and lemongrass. The noodles weren't even ramen noodles, ramen is supposed to be thicker and more chewy than the noodles that I found in my soup, which were more suited to pad thai than they were to ramen. This restaurant is a little hidden gem behind a Mobil station near the VA Hospital. For all you noodle lovers, the Pad Woon Sen is the best, bar none. The Pad Thai is also very tasty. The crispy egg rolls, which are made with the spring roll wrapper, are also very delicious. Other tasty appetizers are the prawn rolls and the Thai money bags. The Thai money bags appear small, but given the shape and appearance of them, you have to give them kudos for creativity. The fried rice was okay. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the sushi. One thing that makes this place unique from other Thai places is that it has a drive thru. If desperate for their mediocre food, order online. Ordered lunch special (one entree with fountain drink according to menu at counter for $7.95), california roll and shrimp tempura roll. Service- I was overcharged for the lunch special because she didnt know how to put it in the register. Upon trying to pay she couldn't figure out how to use the CC machine. I was patient while she fixed it all but took almost 15 minutes just to order and pay. I was also given the wrong roll and she was confused why I asked for a drink. She told me it comes with an egg roll. Ok whatever it's fine. Not a big deal but I do expect to get what I ordered from your menu. She says I ordered a cucumber roll when I asked for a California roll. I was given no receipt so I cant even verify what I actually paid for. The service is good and friendly. As always I order Pad Thai and Papaya Salad. Overall the best Pad Thai in Lake County so far. The Pad Thai was a good portion and love the amount of Tofu they put in it. The spice was just right, spicy enough but doesn't overwhelm and you can still taste the flavor of the food. I'm a bit disappointed with their Papaya salad though. The portion is very small, I usually order it as a meal but their portion size is like an appetizer. This place is a totally unexpected breath of fresh air for the area. I had seen the reviews on Yelp and knew I had to try it. The place itself is easy to miss, but there is a big sign and it's sort of tucked away behind the gas station. Thankfully they have a pretty big parking lot, but not real line designations, so park anywhere? When you walk in it's bright, clean, and neat. There was thai music playing in the background, and I was immediately greeted. As the name would suggest they have both Thai and other asian foods (Chinese and Japanese) at reasonable prices. I opted for the Chicken Pad See-Ew which came out quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken and vegetables (I think collard greens - though the menu says "Conrad green"). Best little hidden gem in North Chicago! Not only is their food delicious, but the portions are huge and the prices are low. All the staff are so nice and they have fast delivery. Their crab rangoons are a hit in our house and my extremely picky husband is obsessed with their chili sauce and says it's the best sauce he's ever had. I've been coming to this place for 2 years and have tried many foods. Their papaya salad is not worth the money. The first time I bought it I was very very disappointed at the amount of papaya that I got. I believe it was about $5 and I finished the papaya salad with 1 bite (not exaggerating). Where I come from, $5 of papaya salad will give you a big portion, enough to make you full. Their eggrolls are very small. About the size of an adult pinky. As an asian growing up eating eggrolls, I've never seen eggrolls made so small. The chicken wings are ok, but not the best. They are average size. HIDDEN GEM FOR MY 1200 My wife brought me here for dinner. What I didn't know was the fact that she had been secretly eating here for a week on her way home from work. In fact, she took food on a plane to LA. My wife was actually keeping this hidden gem from me. So when we walked in, Lek (one of the owners) screamed my wife's name and gave her a big hug. Now that is customer service at its finest. My wife was worried because I can be a tough critic & she didn't want me to find anything wrong with the food of her favorite new restaurant. My wife also has a favorite dish and Lek knew exactly what my wife wanted to eat. She looked at her and said "yellow curry vegetable". It is the only thing she has ordered. I have decide to call my wife the "Yellow Curry Queen". I did taste it & I must admit it's really good. Two things make me fall in love with a restaurant: fantastic food made with love & incredible service that makes you feel like family. This place has both and more. I typically save my milestone reviews for Chicago landmarks but I want to share my 1200th review with this amazing little location. I have now eaten here three times in the past three weeks and I am still in love. In fact we have now met both owners & they are two of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. The one owner told me about her Thai chicken wings and how the locals didn't understand them. I told her I wanted to try them & she told me she needed 24 hours to marinate them, so we set up a date for me to order them on our next visit. We showed up on a Saturday for dinner and she had the chicken wings ready to cook. I really loved them and now they are going to go back on the menu. Think of KFC with its unique herbs & spices, then try these wings here and the special spices blow anything KFC could ever make. Now I'm not a fan of KFC & I haven't eaten there in over 20 years. I'm just trying to give you an idea of the flavor explosion. The wings also come with sticky rice which is traditional in Thailand. My favorite dish here is the pad thai with pork. The flavors and the noodles are fantastic. I also noticed that the food was not overly salty which I dislike when ordering Asian food. I also get them to make it spicy which I love. It just adds the right amount of kick during the cold winter months. My little one is a fan of soup and she has had both the miso soup & the chicken ramen soup. She likes both of them but is leaning towards the ramen on her last two visits. I tried both and I thought they were delish. We have tried a few apps like the egg rolls & the gyoza. Both are very good and much better then the frozen junk other fast food restaurants serve. The meat inside of the gyoza was perfect and tasty. My little one loves dumplings and she ate most of them. I'm a huge dumpling fan, so I was lucky to get one. I also loved the fresh egg rolls too. These were really good. When they arrived at the table they were very hot and not greasy at all. I loved the fresh vegetables packed inside. I would definitely order these again along with the goyza. The first dish I ever ordered here was the drunken noodles which were very good. I also asked for these to be prepared spicy and it had the perfect amount of heat. When ordering you can choose the meat you want. I have tried the chicken but the pork really stands out to me. They also have options to add beef, shrimp, tofu or a combination. The owners are really kind and they love food. They have grown up in the restaurant business since being children and they just get food. They also understand customer service which you can see when a returning customer comes in. Lek knows customers by name when they walk in the door. Everyone wants to feel like Norm from "Cheers". Now when we walk in as a family Lek calls all of our names out. We also get a hug too. I'm sure Norm would have loved getting a hug from Cliff because it feels special. The location is small on the inside. It feels like a fast food restaurant but all of the food is fresh to order. The cooks are really nice. We told them how yummy their food was and now they wave at us from the back. These guys in the kitchen are banging out some fantastic authentic Thai dishes. If this restaurant was in downtown Chicago there would be a line out the door. I also noticed that their phone is always ringing. They get a ton of phone calls for delivery. This place also has a pick up window. I noticed customers will drive up to the window to grab their to go orders. This makes it easy for people to grab their food without leaving their car. It's an old drive-thru which is used as a pick up window now. If you do decide to use this, then make sure you phone your order in first. The parking lot is huge, so you will never have to worry about finding a spot. The building is set behind a gas station with entrances from both major roads. So next time you want authentic Thai food, then I highly recommend you drive here. We do and we love it. read more

A solid choice for some cheap eats if you're in the area. The staff is very friendly. They asked about modifying our daughter's spider roll to make it not spicy when we forgot, and made her little trainer chopsticks. She even got some cheers about her good use of them and told she used them like a Chinese girl. Ha ha ha I've had two main dishes there now, and the golden noodle soup is particularly tasty. It's not that spicy, and I would request extra pickled veggies next time, but very delicious. The appetizers have all been good. A small 6oz bowl of white sticky rice accompanied the curry. Usually, I spoon the curry onto the rice but because there was so little rice, I just dumped it into the Curry bowl. Delicious! Appropriate for a light or medium appetite but not enough for my Sunday binge so I ordered on. PAD THAI was next on my list. For me, PAD THAI is as much about texture and balance as it is about flavor. The owner is extremely proud of her PAD THAI and for good reason! The PAD THAI perfectly prepared- the finely chopped noodles with chunks of chicken was a joy to eat. Also just the right amount of tenderness .
