The food is always very tasty and well-prepared. I LOVE it!! But.....the prices are getting way too high. I've been ordering through GH for a year and a half. Every week, a /$50+ order. and yes, I know prices are going up all over. But I am not able to order as often as I used to because 20-25% rise in cost is just too much for my fixed retirement income. I ordered today for the first time using door dash and was impressed. I got a breakfast burrito, which was massive, an iced blended coffee, and a fresh squeezed orange juice. Although the price came out to about 30 dollars including the dashers tip, it was well worth it. The orange juice was by far the best I've ever had from a restaurant. I really contemplated writing this review as I know it's a small family owned restaurant and bad review can break these types of places, but I hope they see this and work on their quality. This used to be one of my dads favorite cafes before he passed, we would usually come in and order a huge cinnamon roll along with our actual breakfast. (That was years ago) But each time I've ordered food from here (at least one a month, for the last 1-2 years) it's just gotten worse and worse. Today was my breaking point. I ordered chilaquiles, as I usually do, and everything tasted so terrible I honestly thought "do they want people to stop ordering these?" Are they purposely making their food this way? The rice was oily and tasted like they had used brown rice. (Super weird texture) The beans were so peppery (black pepper) that they did not taste like refried beans. The chilaquiles had a weird taste to them I couldn't even explain. And cherry on top my eggs were over hard instead of over easy. I was so so so disappointed. It's been some time that we had been to Tomas Cafe, so we decided to have breakfast there a few days ago. Things have changed since the last time. 1. We had to order at the counter. 2. Coffee in Styrofoam cups that we had to get up and grab the creamer, sugar etc. 3. Food arrived on paper plates along with the plastic utensils. 4. The Chile Verde (meat) was bland and not hot. 5. The potatoes were tasty but cold. 6. No one came to our table to see if we needed anything else or checked on how the meal was going. That being said, we don't think we will be going back anytime soon. We didn't say anything at the time as sending food back is something we hesitate to do. We did mention it to the woman (owner maybe) and all she said was "you should have told us", well we did when we left. No apologies. Ok i really need to update my review for this place. I had not been there in a long time and I recently went back. The same old lady was there but she was not in a bad mood. She wasn't overly friendly or super nice but she wasn't mean or rude either which is a plus. The food is great! Huge menu to choose from! Pumpkin spice pancakes are bomb! They have a great breakfast selection, tons of things to choose from. I like their lunch menu as well! Soup is only served after 11am. Their cinnamon rolls are so good, addicting!! Everything we've had here has been good. Visited this cafe some time ago and have been thinking about it a lot recently! Wow, their cinnamon roll French toast with berries. Made my water melt just reading it on the menu, I had to order it. Even reheating it later in the afternoon for left overs was amazingly delicious!!! If you're big on sweets, you'll enjoy their fun and tasty choices on the menu. If you're more simple and would like to order eggs and bacon or an omelette, they are very good as well. Our server was very attentive and had a positive attitude so early in the morning!! Since the first time I came here, I have always enjoyed the food. Good portions, good ingredients... the food I have no complaints about!! I love the breakfast!!! HOWEVER, it's unfortunate because I find myself wanting to eat else where because I don't appreciate the hospitality. The owner is rude, I have never heard a thank you, when I speak to her or try to start a conversation she just nods her head with no answer. I've seen her treat her employees so rudely. I'd love to come eat here more often but I don't look forward to start my mornings with a grumpy lady. I've been such a loyal customer and have put it to the side many times. I just don't understand. Tomas Cafe was easy to find, parking was just as quick, and the restaurant had ample seating! My husband and I came here for breakfast around 9:00am, and we were seated fairly quickly. The other reviews mentioned getting here early if you wanted to avoid the wait, but it was pretty empty when we arrived. We both ordered the chilaquiles, which was absolutely delicious! My husband especially enjoyed this dish, and we ordered the cinnamon roll french toast - which was sweet but extremely satisfying. For the food, I'd easily give 5 stars. HOWEVER, service was definitely not what I was expecting. Being seated, ordering our food, and receiving our food was not the issue; everything that came after that was. When it was time to ask for the check, none of the waiters or waitresses were available. We had one waitress check up on the table behind us and she didn't bother to venture towards us to ask how we were doing or if we were ready for the check. We were sitting there for a good 10 to 15 minutes after we were finished eating before we decided that it was easier (and quicker) to head to the front counter to pay and ask for a box. Of course, the waitress appeared as we were getting ready to leave. This wouldn't have been an issue but the restaurant was NOT busy. I'm not sure if this had to do with us being seated in the back corner, as it seemed that the other tables were easily able to get service. Went here due to reading positive reviews but unfortunately had a bad experience. The potatoes I ordered weren't cooked all the way and had large chunks of raw onion and bell pepper thrown on them. The seasoning wasn't appetizing and overall the potatoes were bad. The servers are friendly but the older lady, who I am assuming is the owner or manager, is unfriendly and unwelcoming. She seemed to be friendly only with people she seemed to know but she would scowl at others. This little gem is located in Oxnard and I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the groupon my boyfriend had purchased. The receptionist was an older woman who was very welcoming and after she sat us down, the servers attended to us immediately (which is always appreciated). I loved that they had a big bowl of creamers at the table (as a coffee drinker, there was no chance of running out). An older gentleman (I'm assuming the owner) came around to our table to make sure we had everything we needed, which I thought was very polite! Just loved the overall vibe! The Chilaquiles were amazing!! The beans and rice were tasty (and filling!), the green sauce with Queso fresco was delish! My boyfriend said his burrito was good but said he would probably order something different next time, his plate didn't look as exciting as mine (no garnish or sides came with the burrito) but he said the red sauce that came with the burrito was good. This place is horrible. First of all it's cold and the server was even colder. The lady at the front "Ms .Garcia" was so rude to me. She was mad when we were first seated and my mother and I asked if we could sit by the kitchen because I was cold. She threw her hands out and then when I asked what kind of toast came with my plate she said white. I asked if I could substitute it and she said no. I asked if there was any other toast and she said no. Then Because I heard another person ordering rye toast I asked her why she said there was only white and she got mad and said "well that's because that's what most people order, you can have wheat" I was horrified at the way she treated me and I felt lied to. There was nothing on the menu that said there was only white bread with that plate. It simply said Toast. I ended up eating somewhere else. We got seated and served our coffee right away which was nice but the waitress never came back to take our order. They kept seating more people and the waitress took other orders before ours. Even after I asked if anyone was going to take our order. The waitress then proceeded to take someone else's order who had arrived after us. We were completely ignored for more than 40 minutes. First bite, I'm thinking this isn't really the taste I was expecting, hmmmm, next bite, somethings not right, so I take a closer look and realize that it's not shredded beef at all! It's lunch meat! Ugh! Roast beef cut up into thin strips to resemble shredded beef. Disgusting! One tip for the cook... If you ain't got it then don't try to pass off as somethin else. It's very disappointing. With all the good reviews, my expectations were high, and, after spending a night at the worst motel ever and thinking the DEA was going to come through the door at any moment, I took it as a celebration of life to get a breakfast that would effectively shorten it but would provide short term pleasure, aka sugar. I ordered the Nutella French Toast and it was more of a whipped cream French toast, good taste, but not sweet enough a dog not enough Nutella. They also put a lot of whipped cream on the hot toast so it became milky quickly, ruining the great texture the toast could have had. The good: tons of nuts and good size, although the nits weren't well toasted. Service was excellent a dog, as I was writing this review they filled up my coffee a third time, not good enough to add another star, but I thought about it. The food came very fast and the price was not too bad at $13.44 before tip. I would probably come back to try the cinnamon rolls, but given that there a absolutely no reason to ever come to Oxnard, I doubt it. The atmosphere, artwork and lighting give each the place a great cozy modern feel, which I really appreciated after my drug trafficker motel. I gave them a good tip because they did everything right and I'm sure other things on the menu are good, but my French toast didn't cut it.
