Wow. Just wow. I think I've found the very best wings in Rhode Island. I came here for a solo dinner tonight with a coupon from my RI Food Fights Lord of the Wings coupon. Tomaselli's took over an old catering hall, and I was concerned before I came that I would be one person at a giant table. But then I saw a picture of the bar surrounded with leather padded deal chairs and I knew I needed to sit at that bar asap. The building is set back from the road and the parking lot is of a decent size, if a bit tight at some of the turns. Walking in, you definitely get the sense it's a hall but if you're solo just head left and the bar is right there waiting for you The bartender was a friendly guy, I never got his name. He took great care of me, checked in regularly. They have an incredible list of wing sauces, and I chose the pepper relish parm wings, which felt so freaking Italian I couldn't pass it up. I also got a small cheese, pepperoni and black olive pizza. Finally, a sangria to sip while I dined. The wings....the wings were incredible. Definitely my winner for the month by miles. They will be hard to beat. It was super oily from the peppers, it was dripping down my chin, but it was so tangy and delicious I couldn't stop eating it until they were all gone. The wings themselves were very meaty and fried hard like I would get in New York state. I think someone in their kitchen is from somewhere upstate New York because I rarely get wings that well fried outside of that state! After I polished those off, the pizza came. It was piping hot, rectangular and cooked to a golden brown. I ignored the heat and went for a slice. Buttery and crisp crust, rich and thick sauce, extra stretchy cheese, the pie was a lesson in generosity. The pepperonis were crispy like I like and the black olives had a more pronounced flavor than you usually find as well. Top notch pizza all around. I couldn't wait to tell my friends about this place, I was texting them in the car about my great experience. Rosario Drive has a dead end and Tomaselli's at Rosario is at the end of the line, across from a factory in Silver Lake. You're there because you meant to be there. And you made a great life choice. Walk into Tomaselli's and you know what the building used to be. Walls covered in decades of family photos, weddings, graduations, communion parties. Gaming chairs at the bar. Banquet tables with black tablecloths. Hardwood floors. Multiple TVs playing whatever game is on. Stackable chairs. This was the Rosario Society, an Italian-American social club. Tomaselli's moved in here in 2010 and kept the bones intact. I ordered a small pizza as an appetizer. My friends got wings as a meal. Lots of wings. The pizza came out on a black pan. Square. Thick crust, about an inch and a half tall on the edges. Pepperoni cups scattered on top with fresh parsley. I picked up a slice and it crunched, then the interior had great chew to it. That texture held through to the center. Sauce with real body, plenty of it, more savory than sweet. The cheese pulled hard, but let the pepperoni do most of the flavor work. The slices never sagged, never folded. This isn't Detroit style or grandma style. It's thicker crust Italian pizza without needing to fit into someone else's category. The wings arrived and the table went quiet. Tomaselli's offers twenty-six wing flavors. Not variations on buffalo sauce. Twenty-six actually different things. Bouryaki, a bourbon-teriyaki. Pink Vodka. French Toast wings. Pepperoni Pizza wings with chopped pepperoni, pizza sauce, and mozzarella on chicken. Antipasto wings with Italian cold cuts and banana peppers. Chicken Parmigiana wings with marinara. Our friend Jim, a legit foodie who has traveled the world, tried the antipasto wing and laughed out loud for a full minute. We couldn't tell if that meant good or bad until he finally said, "This is f-ing awesome." The consensus from our crew, who've been scouring the state looking for the best wings: these are the best wings we've had in Rhode Island. Half-price on Wednesdays for dine-in, by the way. Just saying. The chicken parmigiana arrived next and I understood why they keep aluminum catering pans behind the counter. A butterflied chicken breast the size of a pterodactyl, covered in marinara and melted mozzarella. Pasta on the side. A bowl of chicken soup. I ate until I couldn't eat anymore. Two large pieces of that chucken breast still sat on my plate, mocking me. Twenty-four dollars for the parm. Three meals from that one plate. Quite a bargain. Silver Lake was settled by Italian immigrants in the early 1900s, most from Southern Italy. They built St. Bartholomew's Church in 1907. They formed societies like Rosario where families gathered and celebrated life events together. The building remembers that history. So does the food. Places like this don't make sense anymore. The portions are absurd. The chicken parm needs an aluminum catering pan to get it home. But walk into that old social club building at the dead-end of Rosario Drive, sit down at one of those banquet tables, and you'll understand what Tomaselli's is doing. The waitstaff works very hard and performs as quickly as possible considering the crowds of people. Our waitress, Hailey never stopped for a moment but attended to everyone's needs as quickly as her feet could carry her! I enjoyed the perfectly cooked eggplant dinner and my husband loved the generous veal parm and pasta dish which definitely gave me a night off the next evening since I did not have to cook! This was our first stop for the RI food fights wing challenge. We got the buffaque and they were amazing, just the right amount of crisp and they were bursting with flavor. We sat at the bar and immediately felt like we were in an episode of cheers. Everyone knew each other and were super welcoming to us first timers. Who even knew this place existed? I didn't. Set in the Silver Lake section of Providence this place is part Elks club (that's the vibe it gives off) and part shooting location for a gangster film. Half expected to see two guys lugging an overly large and awkward bag out to the dumpster. But they're participating in Lord of the Pies so I popped in to check out their pizza and I was unexpectedly surprised at how good their pizza was. I love this place, their wings are so damn good and creative. However, I ordered chicken parm($18.89) and I was disappointed. Yes, it's massive but it was chewy and tough. The first bad sign was when I couldn't cut it with a fork, then there was some resistance with my knife as well. The bottom 1/2 of the chicken was under cooked in spots as seen in one of my photos. Not sure what went wrong because all the Yelp reviews on the dish say it tastes great and is juicy. Hopefully they don't freeze their chicken or re-heat it, but maybe I just got a bad cut. I visited Tomaselli's for the RI Food Fights burger competition. Parking is outside the venue in a small strip. I was a little thrown off by the event hall. Upon entering, I see many empty fancy white tables. My first instinct was to walk out because of how weirdly empty it was. All I could think was, "Am I in the right place?" Further in, there is a small bar with people watching three large flat screens. My first impression was employees on their break. Someone noticed me and I was told that was where you sat for food. Definitely very different. Walking over I noticed the bar was surrounded with puffy comfortable computer chairs. It was the most comfortable bar seats I every sat in. It was definitely the most interesting bar set up I've ever seen. The servers were incredibly nice and must get the awkward "am I in the right place?" question from people often. They have a pretty big menu and a long list of burgers. I ordered the Salt Late Islander. The burger was topped with bacon, american cheese, lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing. The patty tasted exactly like a giant meatball. It was surprisingly very juicy and seasoned very well. I definitely enjoyed the burger. I wouldn't expect good food from a place like this. I thought it would be cheaper quality. I'm glad I decided to stay and try the food. I am curious to try more from their menu. I heard they have some of the best wings in RI. I have eaten here a couple of times. It is a bit deceiving when you first walk in because it is also appears to be an event hall so it looks unlike a traditional restaurant. Don't run out, stay because it is worth it. I have had the Bouryaki Wings both times I have visited and they are great! Nice mix of Bourbon and Teriyaki flavor. The wings were perfectly cooked and there was even a little extra sauce left on the plate to re-dip them. The fries were excellent and I was with folks that got the Tony T's Italian Grinder and said it was as good as it looked! I've been meaning to come here for so long and I'm glad I finally got around to it. When we first walked in we thought we came in through the wrong entrance since it looked like a banquet hall but to the left was the bar area. The seats are like gaming seats so it's a super laid back and chill environment. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars and people who come back often so that was a good sign already. Plus, the staff was also having fun interacting and joking with customers. We ordered the bourbon teriyaki and garlic Parmesan wings plus a honey mustard chicken pizza. All were on point. I actually didn't even want to try the bourbon teriyaki ones but our waitress recommended them and so did my friend. So we got them and they were an absolute 10/10. Just imagine a sweet, glazed, juicy wing. They were also a good size, not too jumbo where the center is pink but not too scrawny where you're eating bones. The garlic Parmesan ones were also good. I loved that they were generous with the garlic and Parmesan topping. Lastly, the honey mustard chicken pizza was also fantastic. Half of the thickness is the crust, and the other half is the toppings so you'll never worry about a dull or flavorless bite. Not to mention the crust is a garlic crust. It is on the saltier end which isn't a problem to me since I love my sodium but just be aware. I think the good we ordered was fairly priced for the quality and size. This place is a hidden gem in Providence. A really wonderful family owned and operated business serving up delicious Italian and homestyle comfort food in gigantic portions. Don't be fooled by how it looks on the outside (think VFW hall with a fresh coat of paint sitting in the middle of a commercial parking lot) because this is one meal you definitely don't want to miss. In addition to their regular menu, they have nightly specials so be sure to check them out. They are know for their chicken parm, which sheer size defies the laws of physics. I found out about this place in 2015 because of RI Food Fights. In short, I came for the burger, and stayed for everything else. At first glance, the restaurant feels like an event hall, and to an extent it is. But from Tuesday to Friday it works as a full service restaurant. There are plenty of large tables, and a bar with large rolling chairs that look luxurious. I don't drink, so I've never sat at one. When you first enter, you're treated by Joe, the owner, who is the nicest guy. I've gotten used to his genuine kindness and hospitality, and that sort of hospitality is mirrored by his staff. This is the only restaurant where I can say I've never had a poor customer service experience. The food varies from American to Italian fare, offering plenty of variety. Chicken wings are a staple, and their famous bouryaki sauce (bourbon teriyaki) often frequents my plate. They offer the sauce on a bouryaki burger, which is equally tasty. Portions aren't an issue, either. The Chicken Parmigiana is so large that it's become sort of a challenge among patrons to finish it in one sitting. I've only ever done it once. Most of the time I just split the dish with someone else, and even then we still have some leftovers. Between the amazing hospitality and consistently high-quality dishes, Tomaselli's has become a staple in my family. read more

While the ambiance is just fine (picture a long semi-empty banquet hall with few tables interspersed ) , the friendly service, the varied menu, and the tasty food more than make up for it. This time around we got pizza. It is a thick affair, an original take on Sicilian with a crispy, perfectly baked crust, a reasonable amount of cheese (avoid adding mozzarella: they are too generous with it ) and straightforward but solid topping. I got the appropriately named Holy Cow, Tomaselli's take on a meat lover. Since we limited ourself to the "half" pizza (4 very abundant slices) we got to try a simple yet incredibly juicy burger, which gave us some respite from the onslaught of carbs. Only in Rhode Island does a place like this exist. You would never drive by and wonder how the food was, and unless you were specifically headed there, you would never even see it. But once you know, you know. The atmosphere is sort of wedding of a distant cousin at a community center circa 1986, which is retro fab, and they even have the obligatory wedding singer on occasion. The bar area doesn't have stools, it's outfitted with oversized deep leather conference room chairs. And then there's the food. Great selection of typical Italian faves, with a chicken parm cutlet that is bigger than an actual chicken. It was the most amazing presentation of homemade food I've ever seen. The hamburger patties were fresh ground beef seasoned like mom's Italian meatballs, just full of flavor and good quality meat. The fixings were plentiful, and the fries! Even the fries were delightful! No question, this place got my vote for the best burger. Bonus: prices are reasonable ($3 Yuengling) AND this place is family owned and operated. (Our adorable waiter was, indeed, the owners' son.) Come support local business owners! Quirky additions: the bar seats are cushioned rolling office chairs packed together like you'd find in an executive meeting. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. Really enjoyed our visit last night - I would say 4 1/2 stars! When we got there, looked like half of the space was occupied by a party - this is mainly an event hall. Onto the entrees - I ordered the Tomaselli's Favorite, grilled chicken with red peppers and spinach that I topped off with mozz in a torpedo roll. My bf got the bouryaki (a bourbon teriyaki concoction) burger - this seemed to be the customer favorite, I'd def get wings with that sauce our next go around. Both orders came with hand cut fries. We really enjoyed all the food. The place itself is on a strange dead end street but don't let that deter you from visiting. It is a function hall so don't be surprised by the decor and atmosphere. I finally got to try the famous burgers at Tomaselli's tonight! The burgers were good especially because it was $5 burger night!!! I would not get the fries again. They were soggy. The sweet potato fries were a bit over seasoned. I would not get those again either. The garden salad however came out just fine and the balsamic vinaigrette was delicious. 3 stars for great effort. There was only one server tonight. He did well but the kitchen wasn't pumping out food fast enough. It took about 30-40 minutes for us to get our food and there weren't many people yet. Love this place! For first time visitors, don't be thrown off by the location and/or facade of the building. It is in a hall of sorts that is rented out on the weekend for parties. And once you walk through the front door, don't be hesitant (because it still doesn't seem like a restaurant), keep walking in, because to the left you'll see the bar and seating areas. And if you can score a seat along the bar, do it! They are THE MOST COMFORTABLE bar chairs you will ever sit in. Now for the food... so good! The wings are delicious and come in so many flavors; and not your run of the mill flavors you see elsewhere, no, they have truly different flavors that will entice any tastebud. My favorites are the dry rub and the pink vodka sauce wings! Their pasta sauce is like an Italian grandma's sauce, which is not something I say lightly. They have chicken parm that can feed a family of four, but it is served for one (and you get two sides)! All the parmigiana dishes are amazing. They have pizzas, burgers, grinders, and more. I've sampled items from each section of the menu and all are worthy of ordering. If that isn't enough, there are usually specials as well. They have a full bar with 10 beers on tap. More than the food, the family owned and ran business makes you feel like you are just visiting friends for dinner, not going to a restaurant. Even when they are crazy busy, they still cut out time to stop and talk with you. This is why we have been coming back time after time since we discovered it a few years back. Being Italian I'm very fussy when it comes to Italian food. All these fancy expensive places do not Impress me. I can cook better than most of them. I'm generally let down when I go out. This is not the Case at tomasellis. ! I found this place when I was participating in a food fight challenge. So Glad I did. It's a huge banquet hall type place. They do a lot of catering and events but when you go for dinner the bar and tables surrounding it is the place to be. The bar is huge with lots of comfy chairs. There are always a lot of regulars there and they are all friendly. It's just a very homey atmosphere. The staff is super ! Lou at the bar is quick to offer service, make recommendations, and always makes sure you food is good and drink filled. Joe , the owner is usually around eating and checking up on things. So besides the fact the staff is great , place comfy , the food. The food is glorious ! I have had pizza , wings , chicken park , burgers. All types of food there. Everything is amazing. This food is all home made on the premises. Nothing is frozen or from a box or can. The wings are crispy and well seasoned. The burger was juicy and well seasoned. The chicken parm was crispy and loaded with cheese. And the gravy. Good god the gravy is delicious. Just as I make at home. Oh and the prices are reasonable and very generous. This is quickly becoming one of my day off spots to grab dinner with my dad. He's impressed too ! You can bring the kids too it's family friendly for sure. This place is truly a hidden gem down the backstreets of the Silver Lake neighborhood. The business sign is inconspicuous but there is plenty of parking. We came here for $0.50 wing Tuesday. The stipulation is you have to order 6 at a time per flavor. We got the Balsamic Glazed, Honey Barbecue Sriracha, Mango Habanero, Pink Vodka, French Toast, & Bouryaki. My favorite was the Bouryaki because they were sweet with a thick sauce. We were hungry and asked them to get us some bread while we waited. It came out hot, fresh and full of herbs. The dipping oil was flavorful. We also got a large Spinach Sensation pizza. It was crispy and full of spinach and ricotta. It came out as two smaller pizzas. I probably would've enjoyed this more as a calzone. The service was a little slow, and we had to wait a while for the food.. but I'll definitely be back to try the dinner menu. read more
