    Chicken Parmigiana

I have to be honest I was excited to try this place. Everyone said it was the best chicken parm. I thought it was ok, I wasn't like oh my god. Wings were good tho!

My friend told me about the popular Buns and Bites influencers trying it out, so then I tried it out too. The portions are HUGE which is great, and the chicken parm comes with two hearty sides. So a friend and I were able to share the whole meal. This was great on my wallet because the whole meal costed me personally 12 dollars! Driving up to the location you may think you're lost, but you're in the right place, it's like an old fashioned venue location. Inside they have office chairs at the bar!??! It seems like this location draws in the older crowds as my friends and I were definitely the youngest in the place. The server was SO nice! I'd come back here to try the tortellini!

RI Food Fight- Lord of the Wings 2025 Review: Pink Vodka Wings. One of the reasons I appreciate Tomaselli's is the variety of wing flavors like pink vodka sauce wings! I haven't encountered this anywhere else. When i have wings, I am looking for a punch of flavor to enhance the wing. The pink vodka needed a little something, maybe even salt. It had a nice flavor but subtle. Their garlic parm and BOURYAKI are DELICIOUS! So may flavors to try, not enough time...

This was our first stop for the RI food fights wing challenge. We got the buffaque and they were amazing, just the right amount of crisp and they were bursting with flavor. We sat at the bar and immediately felt like we were in an episode of cheers. Everyone knew each other and were super welcoming to us first timers. We also got the chicken parmigiana dinner which could easily feed a family of four, came with two sides. We are already making plans to go back next week for wing night.

A casual location for a good meal. I had the eggplant Parmesan and my husband had the chicken Donatella and both were delicious. Portions were large so we both took leftovers. The service was excellent. They had live entertainment as well.

Who even knew this place existed? I didn't. Set in the Silver Lake section of Providence this place is part Elks club (that's the vibe it gives off) and part shooting location for a gangster film. Half expected to see two guys lugging an overly large and awkward bag out to the dumpster. But they're participating in Lord of the Pies so I popped in to check out their pizza and I was unexpectedly surprised at how good their pizza was. Mike was behind bar and explained his family owns and runs it. Very friendly and generous. And who doesn't want to sit in an executive office chair at a bar! Cool place. Gotta come back

Undercooked and tough like bad veal

I love this place, their wings are so damn good and creative. However, I ordered chicken parm($18.89) and I was disappointed. Yes, it's massive but it was chewy and tough. The first bad sign was when I couldn't cut it with a fork, then there was some resistance with my knife as well. The bottom 1/2 of the chicken was under cooked in spots as seen in one of my photos. Not sure what went wrong because all the Yelp reviews on the dish say it tastes great and is juicy. Hopefully they don't freeze their chicken or re-heat it, but maybe I just got a bad cut. I'll be back again though, especially for those wings.

Salt Late Islander: burger was topped with bacon, american cheese, lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing.

I visited Tomaselli's for the RI Food Fights burger competition. Parking is outside the venue in a small strip. I was a little thrown off by the event hall. Upon entering, I see many empty fancy white tables. My first instinct was to walk out because of how weirdly empty it was. All I could think was, "Am I in the right place?" Further in, there is a small bar with people watching three large flat screens. My first impression was employees on their break. Someone noticed me and I was told that was where you sat for food. Definitely very different. Walking over I noticed the bar was surrounded with puffy comfortable computer chairs. It was the most comfortable bar seats I every sat in. It was definitely the most interesting bar set up I've ever seen. The servers were incredibly nice and must get the awkward "am I in the right place?" question from people often. They have a pretty big menu and a long list of burgers. I ordered the Salt Late Islander. The burger was topped with bacon, american cheese, lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing. The patty tasted exactly like a giant meatball. It was surprisingly very juicy and seasoned very well. I definitely enjoyed the burger. I wouldn't expect good food from a place like this. I thought it would be cheaper quality. I'm glad I decided to stay and try the food. I am curious to try more from their menu. I heard they have some of the best wings in RI. Now that I know where to go, I might make that my next meal.

I have eaten here a couple of times. It is a bit deceiving when you first walk in because it is also appears to be an event hall so it looks unlike a traditional restaurant. Don't run out, stay because it is worth it. I have had the Bouryaki Wings both times I have visited and they are great! Nice mix of Bourbon and Teriyaki flavor. The wings were perfectly cooked and there was even a little extra sauce left on the plate to re-dip them. The fries were excellent and I was with folks that got the Tony T's Italian Grinder and said it was as good as it looked! I was only marginally impressed with the pizza I had during RI Food Fights, but everything else I have had has been great. Some of the best wings around!

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

Our server, Dwight, seemed rushed and inattentive throughout the evening. From the start, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. We asked if we could move to a nearby table that was already set for eight, as our current table was cramped and located in a very tight walkway where people constantly brushed past us. We were told the table was reserved, yet from the time we arrived just before 6:00 PM until we left at 8:45 PM, no one was ever seated there. It was frustrating, especially since the cramped space made our dining experience uncomfortable. Service overall was lacking. Dwight rarely checked on us, and when we tried to get his attention for drinks or assistance, he would quickly pass by before we had the chance to ask. It often felt like we were bothering him. We were not offered water, and getting additional beverages was unnecessarily difficult. The food itself was just okay, nothing memorable. When we ordered dessert and cappuccino, the cappuccino tasted like it was made with spoiled milk, but again, no one came back to check on us, so we had no opportunity to address it. The most disappointing moment was the birthday acknowledgment. We asked for a dessert with a candle to celebrate an 85th birthday, and instead received a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate, a small amount of whipped cream, and a candle. It was underwhelming and, honestly, a bit embarrassing. We would have gladly paid for a proper dessert. Jacob the busser was the only attentive one there. We have come to Pane e Vino every year for family birthdays because we've always enjoyed the atmosphere, but after this experience, we will not be returning.

Our favorite drink for a night out is a dirty martini extra dirty. The martinis here are NEVER cold enough. They are legit luke warm. So we have learned to ask for them extra shaken here. Not only were our martinis still not cold, but they were clear aka not dirty. We sent them back based on the color and our server brought the same martinis back with a side of olive juice. After trying them with the extra juice they had a dirty water taste to them, almost like the ice used to shake them was dirty, which is ironic considering they were barely cold. I hate to do this but we sent them back again and let the server know they simply didn't taste good and also were not cold enough. He ended up going back and making them himself and they were much better but STILL. It shouldn't be this difficult for a bartender to make a very standard drink. The food unfortunately was also very mid. The table behind us actually sent their food back twice as well and the manager had to come over. It's also worth noting I put in the reservation it was my husband's birthday and there was no acknowledgement of it at all. This restaurant is meant to be a splurge for a nice dinner out and honestly was not up to par at all. $300 dinner for two and I was extremely disappointed. Honestly don't think we will be back.

Our waitress responded, "No, we don't, but the closest thing we have to it is linguini...but we also have angel hair, penne, and spaghetti." I was a bit confused; capellini is much closer to angel hair than linguini! Same with spaghetti! Brushed it off and my BF ordered a chicken piccata. Couldn't help but notice that the 4 people behind us (who were there before us) didn't order their drinks or food until about 10-15 mins after us, but they got their food 35 mins BEFORE us (we actually started keeping track, we were there for 45-50 mins at this point). We got our food and my boyfriend was very confused because they delivered a chicken Marsala instead of his chicken Piccata; I didn't even notice. He only orders chicken piccata from one other place, so it took him a minute to realize what he had been served... he tried it, thinking that we could just wrap up our experience since we were already running late, took 2 bites and said it wasn't something he liked so he put it at the end of the table. Unfortunately, I had already finished my meal by the time the waitress came over to check on us. No apology for messing up his order, but a, "oh, would you enjoy this?" My boyfriend was stunned. The piccata came out 15-20 mins after this interaction. I enjoyed my chicken Francese and he enjoyed his picatta. Luckily, our shrimp cocktail and peroni were comp'd but I'm not sure why they couldn't just take the meal off at that point -- it was like $4 extra for something that we didn't order in the first place. We were about 30 mins late to the game that we planned well ahead for. Maybe it was a bad night, but this was not a good first impression. TLDR: Service was horrible, food was good.

Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante falls squarely into that second category for me. Years ago, when I was living in Providence, Friday nights often meant a trip to Federal Hill and a pizza from Venda to take home. It became such a regular thing that the drive over felt automatic. Even now, whenever I'm on the Hill and trying to decide where to eat, this is usually one of the first places that comes to mind. I've eaten here enough times that I honestly think I've worked my way through just about everything on the menu. That's not an exaggeration. The impressive part is that I can't think of a meal that left me disappointed. Whether it's pasta, seafood, pizza, or one of their specials, the food is consistently good. In a restaurant business where consistency can be surprisingly hard to find, that's worth recognizing. The wine list deserves a mention of its own. If you're a wine enthusiast, you could spend a lot of time exploring the selections here. I know I certainly have, and I'm afraid to calculate how much money I've spent doing exactly that over the years. No regrets, though. The staff behind the bar know what they're talking about and are always happy to make recommendations. The same goes for the cocktail and spirits selection. Friendly, knowledgeable, and never pretentious. Don't skip dessert, either. Every time I tell myself I'm too full, I somehow end up looking at the dessert menu anyway. One thing I appreciate is the parking situation. Anyone familiar with Federal Hill knows parking can sometimes feel like a competitive sport. The valet service is especially helpful on busy Friday and Saturday evenings. If valet isn't your thing, there are independent lots nearby, and occasionally you'll get lucky and find a spot on the street. During the warmer months, sitting outside in DePasquale Square is one of the best dining experiences in Providence. Good food, a glass of wine, live music drifting through the square, and people enjoying the evening. It's hard not to have a good time. One practical note: I'm a cash guy, so it doesn't affect me personally, but friends have mentioned there's a processing fee when paying by card. Just something to be aware of before the check arrives. It's also a great place to stop for an afternoon drink before heading elsewhere in the city. Whether you're settling in for a full dinner or just grabbing a glass of wine and people-watching for a while, Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante continues to be one of the most reliable spots on Federal Hill. Some restaurants have great nights. This place has been delivering great years.

It was topped with extremely dry chicken that tasted at least days old if not defrosted from the freezer. My companion ordered a desert of churro-ish pastries topped with Nutella and the Nutella was (again) glopped on so excessively she couldn't eat more than a bit of the dessert. This kitchen really needs to work on their saucing and presentation. But the fact that I got so sick is what prompted me to write this review and warn other diners. There is a big difference between not being impressed by food and being made ill by it. i do not have a sensitive digestive system and this was BAD. We thought our waitress was extremely brusque. She finished our sentences in impatience and seemed to be very unhappy to have to deal with customers. We were laughing throughout our meal about how much she seemed to hate people and how that was not a great fit for someone in the service industry. And someone might want to tell the busboy that asking someone three times if they want a box and then responding, "OK, THROW IT IN THE TRASH??" is not a very appetizing thing to say to diners. He was trying hard but he was not properly trained.
