Unfortunately, this restaurant has been on a steady decline since my wife and I first tried it after moving to Howell four years ago. The food was never great, but it was good when we first went, and served to satisfy a craving when we wanted Italian. It has now declined to a point that we have no desire to return. First time here. We have been to Bar None and Gus's, but my son picked this for his birthday dinner. First of our server Jenny was outstanding. Probably one of the friendliest servers I've had in a long time. She was also really on top of things. The breadsticks and cheese dip are like crack for chubby chicks, seriously. The minestrone soup is really good loaded with veggies. The side Caesar went perfect with the soup. I did take a burger home for my husband and it had nearly a whole pungent sliced onion on the side, so beware of that. read more

I really want to like Tomato Brothers since I live walking distance from the restaurant, it would be the most convenient place for dinner. We gave it a couple tries after hearing all the positive reviews, but it's just not my type of restaurant. The first time we went (it was before the remodeling), it looks run down and dirty, none of the dishes we tried were memorable. After the remodeling, the place looks good, however, I still don't like the food. Everyone praises their breadsticks. To me, they are soggy and bland. Granted I'm not a bread person, but my husband is. He thinks it tastes like those from Little Ceasars . I had the whitefish, it was OK, I've had much better (can't compare to Darrow's at Mackinaw City). The potato that came with it was dry. I tried a little bit of the spaghetti with marinara sauce that my 2-year-old was having. The sauce tastes like it had a pound of sugar in it. It was so sweet that I almost had to spit it out. If they make their own marinara, the tomatoes they used must be so horrible that they feel like they need to add that much sugar to compensate. The only thing I would eat there again is the salad. But it's still nothing special, Lou and Harry's Greek salad is much much better. For Italian meal, I just have to keep going to Buon Gusto or Ciao Amici's. read more

I so want to love this place. Today was not a good day, however. We got there at 4 pm on a Sunday and were amazed at how many people were there waiting for a table. We were told it would be a fifteen minute wait. It was about twenty minutes before we were called (I want to point out that I have no issue with this) and then we were seated at a two top that was wrapped around from the main dining area. It was the only table on the wall although opposite us were a bank of booths extending along the entire wall. We were given menus and then- left. After about 15 minutes, I flagged down a waiter who said he would find our server. He returned saying that she was busy and he would be our server. We ordered drinks and dinner right then. After being told by our waiter our food was coming, twice, we finally went looking for a manager. Our meals arrived coincidentally 5 minutes after that. To spell it out- we waited for a table for 15 minutes, waited for a server for 15-20 minutes and then waited an hour for our food. People who came before us had left, people who came after us were eating and we had not gotten our food. In defense of the restaurant, the manager comped us our dinner and the owner stopped to speak with us. We put our food in takeout containers and went home. The food itself was delicious- I had a steak Cesar salad and the breadsticks- Ooh la la! We had eaten here before and the food had always been perfectly prepared. A fan, yes sir. I've been coming to Tomato Brothers for years and years, since the place opened as Tomato Brothers and will continue. This is one of those great family owned local places that stays good consistently. They are famous for their bread sticks...legendary is more like it. Worthy of every bit of the praise. The ribs are finger licking good, the pizza yeah just the way you like it. The Greek Salads always a huge favorite and the seafood pasta is not only one of my tasty picks but big enough for two to share. I dare any one to not enjoy the simple but a classic lasagna. Pretty main stream Italian/American cooking, you bet, nothing fancy but you will not go away hungry all the portions are very generous. A great place for a family gathering or date night. Service is always friendly and attentive even during the busiest times. Drinks are done well and the pricing pretty darn fair. My one suggestion, car pool if your a family group they could use a bit more parking. read more

The additions over the many years since the original Mitch's in Keego Harbor are so uninspiring and so motivated by a desire to cater to those stuck in the 60s and 70s that the experience has become bland. I'm not sure how or why this restaurant received 3 1/2 stars. The service was literally just ok (nothing out of the ordinary from any other restaurant), but the food was terrible. I order Anna's chicken salad, which is there version of a Greek salad with chicken. The chicken was not fresh (meaning old). The waitress says they serve it purposely that way, cold. The chicken tasted as if it was made days ago or frozen and heated up in a microwave. The cheese dip for the bread sticks, horrible too. They called it cheese, I call it butter because that's what it tasted and looked like, butter. My girlfriend ordered the steak hoagie, disgusting. It actually tasted like chewy beef fat. Where was the actually steak meat, is a good question. The only thing eatable were the bread sticks and fries. This place needs a complete make over starting with the chef in the back to the dingy appearance of the dinner area. Please do not waste your money. read more

Above average food, service and restaurant. (5 stars should be rare on any rating site, yelp user abuse the 5 star rating.) A good menu selection. Consistent preparation. They know what they do well and keep the menu as such. Larger than average portions at a fair price. Whitefish seems to be a popular order. Much better than your chain Italian restaurants and other Italian eateries in Brighton. Always busy which is a good sign. Can accommodate large parties too. I used to stop in for what was once a pretty darn good pizza on my way home from Detroit. Yesterday was my last time. Something has changed and I think it is called quality and preparation. I ordered a medium with peperoni, ham, ground beef and mushrooms. The only generous topping was the peperoni, the rest of the toppings an utter joke, a total of (3) chewy old mushroom slices, scattering of ground beef that I assume was pre-packaged as it was more crumble sized than fresh ground beef, a total of (4) 1/2" thin pre-packaged I assume, square pieces of ham laid on a very thin layer of cheese, little if any sauce and a crust that was over a 1/2" thick, soft and doughy. Always a favorite. Love their "Ribs for two" and the BEST Ministrone soup around. (I'm not a vegetable lover but the broth in this makes me eat them anyways!) Went Saturday night, 6PM (rush-hour) and it was packed as usual but the staff are awesome at getting people seated quickly. We go for the awesome breaksticks and the other yummy food is incindental, lol. Daniel gave us great service and we lacked for nothing! My husband usually gets the Gus's Special but I talked him into the ribs (again) and they never disappoint. Fourteen year old son had pizza as usual and it was better than average too. Whenever I'm in town visiting my father, we always stop for a meal once or twice. The food is great, service is friendly, and the portions are large. Be prepared to take leftovers home. I have only one complaint...the cheesecake. I ordered cheesecake for the first time tonight. The portion was large; however, it was the worst flavor and textured cheesecakes I've ever eaten. My favorite, Tomato Brother salad!!! blue chees with a rasberry vinagerette dressing... Atmosphere is ok. When they had smoking allowed, it was still filled with smoke. Service is not bad either. Plan on waiting if you go on a weekend night. A must try is their Sara Lee cheesecake..... Its not Sara Lee Brand, but a homemade thick and cream cheese cake that is to die for...... You wont regret it. Its enough for 3 people to share. My fav also is their ribs with extra bbq sauce. They are excellent. read more

We have been customers of Tomato Brothers restaurant in Howell for years and I'm quite sure we will return as we have our favorites. I'm writing because I ordered a large pizza the other day. I have ordered pizza there before and though It has been a while I must say this pizza was the absolute worst pizza I have had in my adult life, flat out horrible. I should have just sent it back but we were kind of in a hurry. I had planned on having some extra to take to work, I did try again the next day and ended up just throwing it away, Crust undone or perhaps something else. veggies not done, not the place to get pizza. maybe its time to look around as the quality was seriously lacking. read more

Had lunch with some friends at Tomato Bros. in Howell on 1/24/2017 and I ordered your Lasagna I was very disappointed as it was very very thin and no cheese inside the lasagna noodles. For 0ver 30 years I have been going to your restaurant and enjoyed your bread sticks and Greek Salads along with the Lasagna - I told my friends that this was not what I was expecting to get. Very small amount and a smaller Greek salad. If this is what I will be getting in the future ??? Will not order this again or recommend it to anyone else. The service was good. I Love Tomato Brothers .... Their table bread is delicious. And if your hungry for the bread one day for dinner but dont want to eat there. You can just go to the bar and they will get you some to take home... I usually get the Blackened Chicken salad. Its huge ( no half orders available on it ) I usually use the house dressing on it. The chicken Gyros are good also . I live across from the restaurant and on Friday Nights and the rest of the weekend it fills up fast. So get there early. I havent heard any complaints on food or service from anyone . So Enjoy. read more

Loved eating here ,the breadsticks are to die for! The seafood alfredo i had was great. The wait staff was very kind and helpful as well as attentive. Generous portions. Delicious breadsticks. Overall good food. Ribs are excellent. The rib dinner for 2 is an excellent choice, as well. I've never had an issue until I had a carry out with charlyn. She acted like I was a nuisance. I get it I know many carry out people don't leave a tip but I always do, which I wish I would t have until after I re wives the order. I ordered 4 large pizzas and asked for paper plates (since I just watched her giver a handful of plates to a guy who had several large pizzas) and she told me each would be 75 cents. They Nicole and dime everything in your bag, my order was over a 100. And I asked for a side of ranch and they charged me 1.99. I've decided from now on I will never done at any of the tomato Bros Restraunts, Gus"s, highland house, tomato bros none of them!
