This place is amazing!! We stopped in for a late lunch based on all the reviews. Eric greeted us as we were the only patrons....he was nothing short of fantastic. He went over everything and made wonderful suggestions, he treated us to chips and salsa while we waited and was so kind and helpful our entire visit. We had a tamale platter (beef and pork), a steak burrito (which is huge) and kids nachos (which are not small). The black beans were so flavorful even my husband liked them and he isn't a bean fan. The tamales were so fresh reminded me of when my neighbors grandma would make them from scratch. We also tried the homemade fried pie for dessert so buttery and flakey. I've been here twice and ordered the tamale bowl both times. The bowl is something like a cross between a Chipotle bowl and enchiladas. I had the Pork and Chicken tamales with mine. The tamales are the best I've had and the store inside is clean and inviting. They have excellent service and their prices are competitive. All in all a well priced and well run restaurant. My wife and I ordered a tamale pie( frito pie and all its essentials + 2 habanero pork tamales on top) and a steak quesadilla. For a few bucks more, you can make both large. We thought why not, we were hungry. By the beverage station are the two canisters of hot sauce, one is green- tastes like standard tamatito salsa and the other a red tangy salsa. The tang is unique, I've never had salsa roja like this before. Food came out and first thing I thought was "oh man, should have just stuck with the regular size." Quesadilla was piping hot oozing with cheese and good chunks of steak. OMG!!! The flavor in these tamales is beyond fantastic!! So I'm a hardcore vegetarian and this place is super vegetarian friendly! The beans and masa are all vegetarian, lard free and gluten free without compromising on the flavor! The black bean and Monterey jack tamales was soooooo good. The grilled burrito with refried beans was also fantastic. Felt like I could eat 4 more tamales because they were so good! The house made salsas were fantastic! Spicy and so flavorful!! We're building a new house nearby and have been seeing the word tamale on the building and anticipating the opening. We made it a point to head this way to check on the house and eat tamales for lunch. I thought the customer service was excellent, since we had never been to Tommy Tamale (even the Grapevine location which seems wildly popular), they gave us a complete walk-though of the menu and what's most popular. They don't have an overwhelming menu but at the same time it was so hard to pick because it all sounded so good! Hubs and I both ended up getting the tamale plate which comes with 2 or 4 tamales and a side of rice and beans, between the both of us, we got all six of their flavors that they serve hot so that we can try them all. Pork, hatch pork, habanero pork, chicken, black bean and beef. I am a huge fan of pork tamales to start so knew that they'd be a favorite. I like spicy and could tell the habanero pork had a little heat but it wasn't overly spicy to me. The chicken and regular pork were my favorites, followed by the beef. Least favorite was the black bean but I am not a huge fan of black beans and think I just prefer my pork tamales. Tip: they do not come with a sauce so be sure to ask for it if you're wanting it. They gave us a side of the chili to try and it was good, however, the salsa they serve on the side was beyond amazing and that did it for me. They have other options like quesadilla, nachos, their take on a Frito pie, and a burrito and you can get any of them with tamales. I am saving this for a future trip but can't lie that it will be awhile before I steer away from just getting the tamale plate. They have even more flavors available in their frozen section to go. They sell them in half or full dozen increments and we'll definitely be checking this out in the future. Last but not least, they don't serve alcohol but it's BYOB! The Steak Nachos plate (a serving tray) was grossly oversized. There was not a choice of size. Great for kids or drinking buddies but as a dinner plate?? Really?
