This is a small place that doesn't seem to have much of a wait. I loved the food here. Everything tastes fresh and delicious, and the spices and sauces are on point. Everything is cooked to the perfect point. The noodles were delicious, the fried rice was well flavored, and the chicken skewers, despite being white meat, tasted tender and moist. They were very accommodating for the baby, and brought out a cup with a lid and straw for baby niece's water, brought out extra napkins, and let sister walk around with baby. My problem with this place is how incredibly slow they are! Baby gets fussy within about an hour, and we already went to temple, so she had about 40 minutes left in her. That seemed like enough time to get a quick meal and be out (When food comes out you can usually add another 10 to 20 minutes to baby time). Not one dish came out after 40 minutes, and baby decided she wanted to go home, so sister also went home. Sister 2 and I stayed to wait for dinner, and it was good. I'm just bummed that everything took so long that Sister 1 and baby had to leave. How could it take it that long to make any of those dishes? Were they slaughtering the chicken in the back?! As I was waiting, I saw a large Thai family eating in, so I'm thinking the food must be quite authentic & tasty. I also saw a older lady in the kitchen making food, possibly a family business with family recipes. The veggie pad Thai isn't as good as the chicken for some reason, also I also asked for "little spicy" for both, but the veggie one is much spicier! I had to get some yogurt to calm my tastebuds down! I'm disappointed in the veggie pad thai, the vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cabbage, & green string beans) seem too crisp, they weren't cooked long enough-- still had a raw taste to them. Chicken satay came wet and dripping, not sure with what, because the miniscule amount of sauce was separate from the chicken. Got chive burnt triangle cakes instead of "chive pancakes." BUT, worst of all, there was a rubber band stuck in the pad thai. Called the resturant asking for a refund on the pad thai...but was doubtful after hearing the owners laughing about it on the other line when they thought they hanged up. I've ordered stir fry before. But I'd still go with eggless tofu pad thai. I got their chicken wings it's fried and they give you a dipping sauce. I've also gotten their thai buffalo wings which are spicy and really salty. But I prefer the thai buffalo flavored rather than the regular fried because fried has no flavor imo. Their lunch specials are worth the bang for your buck. Their scallion cakes are also good. It's not the typical chinese scallion pancakes where it's flat. These are triangle shaped cubes. My boyfriend and I come here often for an easy dinner since we like their food and it is around the corner from where he lives. We love this local gem! I usually get a Thai Iced Tea drink (most of the time it is sweet, which is how I like it, although there were a couple of times where it was very watered down it seemed), and Calamari Pad See Ew. For the price and value, you can't beat Tommy Thai. Calamari Pad See Ew is only $9, whereas most other places would (and can) easily charge you over $10 for anything seafood-related. This dish has just the right amount of sauce and flavor and I am always the right amount of full whenever I leave here. They don't give you too much or too little. Between my boyfriend and I, we've tried their green curry, pad see ew, rad na, pad thai, thai fried rice, and pad kee mao, all of which are delicious! (But fair warning, their version of "mild spice" is not very mild lol, at least not to me anyways) The decor is very nice too. Although small, they do decorate the inside of the place with unique items and it is never too populated regardless of when we come here for dinner. There are 4-5 tables inside that can seat anywhere from 2 to 6 people. Tommy, the owner/manager?, always greets us when he is there and remembers that my boyfriend likes their spices & would strike up a conversation about that, lol. This local gem is a nice find and I love that they have kept their prices the same throughout these years. They even recently expanded their menu to include beer and wine. Came here with some friends because I was craving thai food. Did not have a pleasant experience. Upon walking into the restaurant, my friends and I were welcomed by a pungent smell. Did not smell nice. Should've left at that point. Next, we were sat down, got menus and ordered. We received our appetizers which included the Fried Calamari, Mango Salad, and some fried shimp dish. Oh my goodness. The mango salad, for what it was, wasn't worth the price of $10. It was way too sour, boring and a just a complete mess. I don't understand how people like this place. The food was totally bland and one of the worst places I have had thai food in NYC. One thing I did not like that the owner Tommy did, was he asked us if we are going to share the dish. This has made it's way to my favorite Thai spot. It's been about two years from my last review and I am still getting the Pad Thai with tofu (+peanut sauce and chili flakes on the side) till this day. I failed to mention how bomb their Thai Iced Tea is as well! It tastes authentic and isn't too sweet. They're affordable, friendly, and delicious. The only thing more that I ask of them is to PLEASE bring back the soup option in the lunch special! I am so grateful and appreciate that this small local Thai spot is so close to home. i LOVE this place. actually stumbled onto this place by accident because we were planning to go to another viet sandwich place nearby, but happened to be closed cause their gas wasnt working. so lucky because probably would not have tried otherwise! the 4 of us did semi-family style and got: pad thai- it was perfect. i actually used to not be a fan of thai food because i've always had this dish from chains and it was never great. this place makes it perfectly balanced with sweet, savory, and the noodles had a bite, and did not fall apart. the sauce was not too saucy. the duck noodle soup is one of the best i've ever had. the spice (all spice?) level in the broth was the right amount, making you feel warm and fuzzy w/ ever spoonful on a cold winter night (except it was the middle of august). chicken special w/ papaya salad - so good! i only had a couple bites, but it was very tasty. chicken was moist and papaya salad was sooo fresh and had the right crunch/tang/spiciness from the dressing and really complimented the dish well. it also came with hot sticky rice in a bamboo bowl- only downside was it was steaming hot and once cooled was a little dry and difficult to eat. glass noodles w/ veggie - its kinda like a pad see ew vibe .. but the soy sauce flavor was not over powering nor was it too wet. sometimes thai places over-do the sauce. this one was good and i loved the combo of veggies with it. nice and crunchy and well balanced. apps: i LOVE the chive dumplings. i always order it now if the thai restaurant has it. this place does it right. perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. sauce was the right amount of sweet and salty. fried fishcake - this was ok. it was wrapped in tofu skin i think, and had a good taste but i would try something else next time! honestly even the thai iced teas were done right. we got two to share b/t couples. you could rly taste the tea and it was not overly sweet. So I decided to give it a try tonite and ordered delivery. I got beef pad see ew, chicken thai fried rice, and hoi joh. Beef pad see eiw was ok, the noodles were slightly too stiff and the chinese broccoli was a bit yellow. There was also a little lump if sugar that I bit into. Chicken thai fried rice was also just ok, the rice was a little dry. Hoi joh was extremely ridiculous. There were 5 bite size pieces and it was $6! It was decent but not for $1.20 a piece! I thought I was missing half my order. They better give better prices if they're charging pretty much the same prices as the better Thai restaurants out there. Would give the food alone 3 stars but the experience overall was 4. I tried this via Uber Eats last night after having a rather bad day. My first impression was "THANK GOD there's somewhere to get Thai from". My second was "I'm so happy they remembered extra peanuts" and my third was "Should there really be this much onion in curry? Why fried tofu and not steamed?" So here's a review. PAD THAI: Too sweet and missing something. Maybe a hint of fish-oil or some other fishy substance? A drop of something else? I've had great Pad Thai and bad Pad Thai and this fell somewhere in the middle. It was a little too one dimensional. With that said, the shrimp was full and succulent (could have given me more though), the portion was enormous, and I enjoyed the crispy, fresh bean sprouts on top, as well as the decadent peanuts sprinkled on top. Long live nuts. PANANG CURRY: Very strange way to cut potatoes. Tommy Thai cut the potato in a way that resembled a ruffled chip with those ridges/grooves. Also, I've never before (maybe never will again) have a curry dish wherein the only two vegetables are onion and potato. Very strange. But I went with it because of the peanuts, which were plentiful and rich. Thought the curry was still too sweet and missing a spicy kick. I don't even like spice, but it was missing that oomph. And still not over the fact that the curry has FRIED tofu rather than steamed. Curry is already so THICK and HEAVY with the coconut milk base - I find steamed tofu makes it a bit lighter and easier to manage. THAI TEA: Sweet, lovely orange color. Ordered without ice and it came with ice. :( So of course became watered down in the 30 min Uber ride to my place. Takeaways - Uber Eats is fantastic. If my mom was Thai, this is how I'd imagine her food to taste like. Their menu consists of the usual Thai suspects, Tom Yum, basil dishes, curry, Pad Thai, etc. But Tommy Thai differs in the "home cooked" feel of every dish. Everything is perfectly seasoned and cooked in a way that so that it's not too heavy and overpowering, and at the same time oddly flavorful. The crispy tamarind duck was the highlight of my first meal there. The flavor was very interesting and my duck was prepared perfectly crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside. Normally, the Thai restaurants I've been to have multiple spicy levels denoted by different numbers of chilli peppers on the menu. Tommy Thai doesn't have that. As a result , I ordered a spicy dish and asked for it "slightly spicier" and expected it to scoff at its spicy level when it came out. I want to say it was the jungle curry but I'm not 100% sure, but it was soooooooooo unexpectedly spicy. Even then I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. The tom yum soup was really good and perfect for the rainy weather and I also loved the fact that they were very knowledgeable about food allergies.
