Why can't food be good at airports? Had a calzone here with veggies and sausage. The trouble with sealing raw vegetables and mushrooms in a calzone is that they release a lot of water when they cook. Passing through to Chicago and I stopped at TV'sP for a 12" pepperoni pizza. My wife had a slice and couldn't finish it. She said it had too much cheese. That's code for "It was too greasy." I probably wouldn't get it again, but it wasn't terrible. Crust was thin and a tad soggy, but hot. Pepperoni was good. The sauce was pretty thin. An okay pizza option in the airport, Tommy V's is not an acceptable option if you want a good amount of food for a reasonable price. Though the looking and branding of this restaurant gives the expectation of a delicious wood-fire pizza, the flavor of this is hardly noticeable in the crust, which has a bit of a non-distinct floppy texture to it. With that said though, the flavor of the pizza isn't bad with about the right level of saltiness and acid in the pizza. It can take a while to prepare though, so be aware of this if you don't have a lot of time before your flight. read more

Not a bad thin crust pizza. It's made fresh and comes out lava hot so be careful. I like crispy thin crust pizzas with a nice glutenous texture. The crust was thin, and they weren't skimpy on the toppings, and they did get it out pretty promptly. Regretfully, while hot, it was a bit soggy, but again, setting one's expectations I've had much worse, and this was not the standard make the pie-put it under a heat lamp-wait til someone wants a slice. I ordered the Margherita and it took about 10 mins to receive, and cost $13.52; pricy, but again expected given the environment. For a Margherita, a little weird to actually have both fresh and shredded mozzarella scattered across, but from a taste standpoint, it was okay. Could use more basil overall and slightly less grease, but the crust was thin and the sauce had a decent tang to it. I am happily surprised to say that the pizza is actually pretty good. It's a small / medium sized pizza that is cooked in a wood fired oven. They offer multiple toppings including sausage, pepperoni, several different veggies, buffalo mozzarella and more. The crust was basically perfect and it had a good flavor. The only negative is that it's a bit pricey compared to regular pizza places. Of course, nearly all airport food is overpriced, so I guess it is sort of understandable. My pizza (approx 10" across) with sausage and the addition of buffalo mozzarella plus a bottle of water was $23.60. Having said that, I did enjoy it. Happy travels. read more

As airport food goes, Tommy V's has several advantages: It's located in a quieter part of the terminal, it's actually made fresh and the pizza tastes pretty good. Yes, there is a wait. But that is because they are topping your pizza and cooking it in the giant oven, not serving up premade food like so many other airport eateries. It's also pricy, about $15 for a pie. I couldn't finish one by myself, and probably could have been happy with half. If you're a bigger eater or just starving after a long flight, get your own. The pizza is actually pretty decent. It comes out piping hot from the oven which, really, is the best way to eat pizza. The crust is thin, but well cooked. Toppings may not be generous, but they are reasonable. My one complaint, and I can't believe I'm saying this, is that there was too much cheese. My margherita pizza plus pepperoni had awesome fresh mozz on top, but then another layer of regular mozzarella below. I love my cheese, but after half the pie, it got to be too much. I actually took the cheese off the last few pieces and ate the crust and sauce by itself. If I find myself in the San Diego airport in the future I would definitely hit this place up again. But I'd make my own pie or ask to go lighter on the cheese next time. read more

We left our hotel very early in the morning and after rental car, security, and check-in business; our tummies were growling. It was presented nicely and everything was clean. The seating atrium itself was open and bright, perfect place to start a day. The staff here, two friendly ladies, quickly greeted us and told us the breakfast options. They were keen to chitchat, which was a nice change from typical airport encounters. The food, a breakfast burrito with bacon, was made fresh and served hot. It was small for the price of course, but offered enough food to hold us until the meal on the plane. I bought a personal margherita pizza expecting it to be decent atleast but it wasn't. The personal pie is pricey but thats kind of expected with Airport food.
